Jezebel

Taking a deep breath and starting up a new and independent fragrance house is either really stupid - or, as in this case - really courageous. I should note that I have a friendship with the perfumer (we've never met - he may not even really exist outside of FB for all I know), but the bottle was purchased for myself. There were a lot of late night chats and pushing (I can be pushy), but what a result. I do agree (and love) the final scent and how it can be perceived - it is ever changing and finishes up dark and sensual. Not dark and foreboding. This is where we disagree. Now, perfumer friend and I differ on who we believe Jezebel was in history. He sees her biblically as a harlot, a fallen woman, a worshiper of idols. I don’t. Yes, historically, she may have been that as well, but I see her as a woman of great strength, character, and determination. She was a survivor and did what she needed to in order to survive each day. I see her as a feminist, one of histories first suffragettes. And when her time came to answer for all her "sins", she sat in the window - in full view - and awaited her destiny. Courage. In the context of the scent – it simply doesn’t matter. It is strong, well rounded, full of character, will stand the test of time, and feels like it could become a classic. She is rather bold in a fragrant way – a woman who took great pride in how she presented herself to the world. She had great beauty, and had a complex intellect – no one note wonder here. She will be loved and worn by both men and women - the days of scents - truly well made scents - being either feminine or masculine, I believe is long gone. She smells ancient and modern at the same time, is appealing to both men and women, and you will find her scent clinging to your bedding in the morning long after she has gone. I wear her close – I wear fragrance for MY pleasure – and she is indeed a pleasure. A little spicy, a liquid sweet softness, and a spine of ancient wood – this broad’s no pushover. I like her a lot. I would imagine she has many interesting stories to tell. She makes me feel calm and in control. That’s asking a great deal of a fragrance I know, but this one has come from the magical mind of a perfumer who was meant to create. I purchased my bottle and the contents and opinions are mine.

Jezebel is a behemoth of a perfume. A huge, bombastic rose-osmanthus done in the Middle Eastern style - people are going to know you've walked into the room with this on - with a development that shifts hour by hour for at least half the day. It begins with a huge cacao and pear opening that smells animalic without being animalic. There's something very decadent and gothic about this perfume. It is shameless and bold in the way that Dior Poison was in the 80's - similarly, it will either hook you or repulse you. Don't be fooled by the gourmand notes listed - Jezebel is 'gourmand' in the way that Tom Ford Black Orchid is 'gourmand' because it has a truffle note. Then we get to the middle, where this perfume unfurls like a flower and really shines - it is a moody rose with an osmanthus spine and a sandalwood drydown that hovers in the air around you like you're the seductress in a film noir. There is a sense of beautiful decay with this perfume, much like in Black Orchid and Portrait of a Lady - the florals here aren't fresh or bright, they are inching towards death and all the more heady and beautiful for it. When I first smelled Jezebel, I was not a fan at all - it was too big, too lush, too gothic, too much, and the glimpses of the rose I could smell weren't enough to hook me. But I gave it time, and a few more wears, and now I own a full bottle. All of AnkaKus' perfumes are like this - complicated but worth it if you stick with them and try to puzzle them out. This is perfumery at an artisan level we rarely see from my local Australians! Beastly projection and performance, you only need one spray and I mean it. You will come back and back to the sample and eventually be seduced by Jezebel, too. A must have for anyone who loves: huge/complex perfumes, complex florals, gourmand notes that aren't sickly sweet, or osmanthus.

Jezebel is such an unusual fragrance. It’s one that imposes on sexual urges. It’s fruity. It’s floral. Its indolic. It’s chocolaty. It’s leathery. It’s animalic. The fruitiness of the opening Pear note is both ripe & sweet, & soured like a pear fermenting into wine. With that you have the immediate floral presence of Jasmine along with it’s pungent indoles that smell on the verge of being Poopy. I don’t smell “Smoke” like other reviewers have mentioned. But I do smell a very subtle ash. Blended in with white floral aspects of the jasmines note is a subtle Rose note. The Rose adds a soft powderiness to the fragrance that makes one think of luxury. The chocolate comes in pretty strong & it gets reinforced with both the sweet ripe nuances of the pear note, as well as its dark fermented nuances, with the not at all shy poopy nature of the Jasmines indoles. It’s a very beguiling scent at this point. As the fragrance continues to open up on your skin the Osmanthus note lends a subtle Leathery nuance accompanied by the animalic nature of Cashmere Musk. Jezebel is a dark fragrance that smells like a Hedonists lust. Jezebel is very similar to another fragrance. Charlatan by Fort & Manle. We have an adult store here, & when you first walk in you’re immediately hit with this combination of incense, with Jasmine Incense being the loudest & most pungent. The combination of those incense along with the smell of leather whips, lace panties, sex toys, chocolate, & the nervous energy that releases sexual pheromones triggered by the perverse lustful desire for smut is what this fragrance smells like. It’s a true assault on the senses that conjures images of BDSM Dungeons thats unique, & oddly beautiful on both men & women. It’s not a fragrance for everyone. You don’t choose Jezebel, it chooses you.

Okay, here's what it is..... The note not listed here, is the tuber note, which I believe when combined with the liqueur of the chocolate and the pear, produces the challenging opening. I tried my sample a few times, because each time, the sour airiness evaporated to a tolerable dryness within an hour, and it morphed into an almost gourmand and very smooth dry down. Very unique and alluring dry down. I normally only purchase fragrances now where I love all the stages: opening, middle and base, and I don't like to waste my time with openings that I don't care for. In this case, the dry down which to me is where the party is, was undeniably unique and worth investing in. I just purchased a full bottle. I noted when compared to Charlatan that this is actually quite different than Charlatan. Charlatan doesn't have an offensive opening. Charlatan has similar notes, but it stays fairly linear on me the entire time. Charlatan does get a bit medicinal to me during the transition to the mid stage, and I don't think it is as sensuous a scent in the dry down, nor as lovely or attention-getting. It's not as "bad girl" a vibe. The florals and osmanthus dance in and out throughout the stages, and the pear becomes less dry and more juicy to me as time moves forward. The result is a smell that is cunning and enticing but also bends the rules and does not conform to standards. This is why I like it. I recommend you spray this an hour before leaving the house....and I don't agree that this is only for naked rendezvous purposes. I actually think this becomes a scent that draws people in to say, "There is something about you that is crazy naughty and bad, but I like it". There it is. Give it a try....or a few tries, and see if you go back to an empty sample that requires a FB :-).

Opening is harsh and intense. When you first sprayed it, animalic side of jasmine overcomes the other notes. After 5-10 minutes animalic note calms down and then you can smell the flowers like osmanthus and little bit of rose and the sweetness from pear, chocolate and an amazing vanilla(which stays to the drydown). If you smell the fragrance from close animalic side of jasmine is really disturbing but on air OMG it smells like heaven. I got compliments from people that i don't expect. When I first applied it, i thought that with this animalic note people are going to hate me. It turned out exactly the opposite of my guesses. Jezebel is an unisex fragrance, I sprayed it to my mom and she was smelling amazing. I think I am going to buy a full bottle of this. AND I wish "ALİ ERKEKLİ " success in his career. Congratulations, this is a great work.

Someone on twitter said this is the perfume for those swoony heroines on the cover of 80s gothic bodice rippers and pulp magazines, and I gotta agree. A bombastic fruity smoky woody scent. When I first spray it there's a sour pungent smell that immediately transforms into a beautiful floral top notes. Then it transforms into a smokey, woody amber. Femininely in your face yet quite sophisticated at the same time. Lasts forever in your clothes; I can still smell it days after. I like it, but this is definitely not for me. It's some thing that's more suited to a vixen, a femme fatale. Something which I decidedly am not.

I’ts an amazing perfume, from the first spray to the end!!! I dont’t get the disturbing opening, maybe a bit animalic (is there civet?) in the very top but the whole composition is a huge love-very beautifule, cremy osmanthus for me and the gourmand notes makes it a dream perfume. I adore the chocolat-pear-vanille and very good paired with the cashmere musk. Main actor is the oshmantus for me but vell balanced the other notes. And this perfume best side that it has a very big sillage what makes an amazing cloud around me! Absolute unisex, under 23 Degrees. FB and Back Up Bottle Worthy!

Great scent! Nice performance in summer time. It smells to me like the old honey frames and when the beekeeper cut the honey from the honey frames and accidentally cut the part of old wood frame. Some child's memories...

The world’s worst opening. It smells like sour stomach acid drunken vomit. It reminds me of a street in Ibiza known as The West End that has all of the bars for the (mainly) drunken British youths to enjoy. In the morning when you walk down this cobbled street, there is puke every few meters and it smells just like this. The tired locals hose their rancid gut-purée away every single morning. I HATE the opening of this fragrance, but there’s a huge twist in this tale. 10 minutes later (I actually timed this) it becomes a really nice fragrance. The dark chocolate sobers up the acidic stench to become a smooth ‘n’ creamy, subtly sweet, sandalwood and amber beauty. I love it. I sprayed it again just to make sure I wasn’t going mad, and there was the infamous 10 minute vomit spritz again. I’ve never before gone from disgust to like between the opening and the dry-down but there it is folks. Be brave and give it a go.

this is such a beautiful perfume. i usually tend to not like rose or sweeter notes and didn't think i would enjoy the chocolate and pear together. when it first hits you, it is a lot but in my opinion nowhere near as bad as others have put it here, just sickly sweet, which i think really adds to the transformation it goes on. jezebel is hedonistic, rapturous, ripe. it obviously has biblical connotations, and the story reminds me of eden taking that first bite, the sweetness of the fruit, pure ecstasy. the smokiness and animalic quality comes with exile and shame... but not a shame that necessarily is one you regret, shame from exploration, from lust. I'm surprised it didn't last as long as I wanted on my skin, and its sillage is quite intimate. not what i was expecting from reviews. i have yet to try the rest of the samples I got from anka kus, but glad i found my way to this one.

Wauw, a punching, realistic scent of smoke you'll only find in niche houses. Jezebel opens with a strong smoky and sweet combination, but also with a hint of barn with hay. I imagine myself in the early morning entering a barn, which had caught fire during a rainy night. The fire has been put out and you are left with only small twigs burning here and there, the smell of horses still lingers in the air. This fragrance is not one I could wear, but it is definitely an olfactory experience. Full review on my blog, which is linked on my profile.

First seconds opens up as very bitter chocolate and pear liquor, then comes that smell of fancy old fabric, like 500 year old curtains in dracula's palace in a wooden room with candles. There's no human food in this palace and that chocolate and liquor is put on table only for aesthetic, and probably been there for long long time as well as dried roses bouquet, and someone also wears rose oil on skin, but i dont get any fresh roses. Its very romantic, aristocratic and dark 🖤 over time becomes sweetened and softened with woody vanilla

Great and Unique, not good for all people

Opens with a sour smell reminding me of vomit - reading the reviews, I see I'm not the only one - but that sour onslaught fades within 10 minutes and develops into a creamy powdered milk with a hefty dash of vanilla. It reminds me of those flavoured powders children add to milk; this one is mostly vanilla but a chocolate note develops with time. Not an easy opening! The perfume's heart reveals Osmanthus in all it's plush, velvety glory; a smooth fruitiness, some suede, that powdered-milky vanilla vibe and a touch of floral loveliness. On my clothes this was spectacular; deliciously rich and deep. But on my skin it's disappointing. There's an airy aquatic note - Calone? - which appears with a gorgeous leafy scent like tobacco or sun-warmed hay. I love the leaf but I'm not keen on that aquatic note, which diminishes the rich depth of Jezebel. the comments on this fragrance ruined the fragrance itself guys cmon this fragrance not bad as reviews ive seen here,, it was my blind buy but this is something i dont like to wear everyday or every month its good fragrance with rose and powdery profile mixed everything in vanilla lasting power is good but not mass apealing its smooth i layerd this with my oud ispahan esprit just to avoid this fragrance ! 6/10 not bad though!

So I have seen reviewers saying that this fragrance smells like vomit and I have to revoke that statement. This is such a well made fragrance that to the naive and untrained nose they get the complexity and craftsmanship so wrong. Ali Erkekli has created such a superior masterpiece that it is one of the most beautiful rose dominant fragrances that I have put my nose to. The opening of chocolate and pear is an enchanting sweetness that combines with the rose to give off a sweet luscious rose, slightly cola effect. Those who are saying they smell vomit should check their clothes in light that they might have thrown up on themselves. Those who write and degrade fragrances have to reconsider putting opinions here.. you have yet to understand what a fragrance is and how it works.. To each nose their glory, everyone's taste and likings are different, just don't go around insulting people's fragrances, instead leave constructive criticism so that an artist can grow and not become discouraged. Speak about the finer qualities of the fragrances and how the notes interact with each other, speak to the evolution of the upper into the heart into the base. Say your criticism in a manner in which to improve and not to shut down. This is a remarkable creation and I wish folks would learn what they smell and not jump on a train. Nothing smells like vomit and I remit that statement

Jezebel is the symbol of bad hearted and immorality which is also mentioned in the Bible, she was the wife of the king of Israel and was a pagan. The smell is as interesting as the story. It's super mystical, dark, complex, rich and gothic. Don't think of a very sweet sugary scent when you see the sweet notes such as chocolate, rose, vanilla, and tonka bean. it is not a simple and cheap,heavy scent. The opening is a bitter chocolate with liquor and it's combined with little bit fruity and slightly floral notes. It's kind of gourmand but I can't exactly put it in that category. I would probably prefer to wear in evening and winter and autumn. Jezebel, Incilde de adi gecen kotu kalpli, ahlaksizligi simgeleyen, Israil kralinin esiymis ve putperestmis. Hikayenin ilgincligi kokulara yansimis :) Cok karisik, karanlik, zengin ve mistik bir havasi var kokunun. Tam bir gothic. Notalarindaki cikolata, gul, vanilya, tonka fasulyesi gibi tatli notalari gorunce aklinizda baya tatli sekerli bir parfum canlanmasin. Ozellikle ilk acilisi likorlu bir bitter cikolatayi animsatiyor, hafif meyvemsi ve biraz da ciceksi notalarla birlesiyor. Her sey var,cok farkli. Gourmand sinifina biraz goz kirpiyor ama tam olarak o kategoriye sokamam. Aksam kullanimina daha cok yakisiyor,sicak havalarda pek gidecegini dusunmuyorum, kis ve sonbahar icin ideal bence.

Wow this starts off super sweet. If it’s pear, it’s a condensed pear syrup! It was almost too much because I didn’t look at reviews (still haven’t) before dumping a whole 1 ml sample all over myself. As it settles it still smells sweet, but slowly a weird kind of rubbery bandaid smell comes through, especially when smelled close up. This perfume is very long lasting. I fell asleep probably an hour after I applied it and a good 7-8 hours later I could still get whiffs of it. The whiffs I’m getting this morning I really like, it’s still sweet and fruity but really pleasant. Moral of the story: don’t over spray it. Let it settle. Don’t smell it close up, let it gently waft to your nose. Do spray on clothes for a super long lasting wear. I’m placing this perfume on my “sample again” list because I feel like it deserves it based on how good I smelled when I woke up today.

Yes to vomit opening but to me it's more the barny oudy vomit, and it only lasts a few moments before mellowing out into a more subtle, sweet barny oud. That's all I'm getting, a rancid but sweet fecal body mess. It really reminds me of this random oud perfume I got once in a bundle of perfumes off facebook, one of my first run ins with the note (surprised no oud is in here actually) needless to say I was not impressed although I did my best to convince myself. Acquired taste...the notes are very deceiving. *Dehn al oud el Qamer Swiss Arabian

So I have to agree with the previous reviews that the opening smells almost like vomit! You almost have to hold your nose closed for like the first 5 minutes after spraying. After that though it is a beautiful perfume! You have an incense smell for quite awhile and then cones the gourmand pears dipped in chocolate. I bought this due to the fact that it was supposedly smelled like Charlatan but was quite a bit cheaper. This is true. It does smell very similar once you get past the horrible opening. Love it and would definitely recommend!
