La Nuit de Bohème Eau de Parfum

I have a bit of a love affair with Anna Sui. Her entire design sensibility appealed to me growing up and her fragrances have been some of my most worn fragrances over the years. Given her popularity in Japan, I ended up acquiring quite the Anna Sui collected while living there and her scents most remind me of my time in that beautiful country. This preamble is only to note that whatever I write about her scents will inevitably come with a dose of nostalgia-based prejudice, so be aware of that. That said, I have been wearing the heck out of this in the past few weeks. I recently rediscovered some of my old Anna Sui bottles (and to my surprise, they were still good!) and restocked ones I had discarded and was missing, so I guess I've been on a bit of an Anna Sui kick lately :P. What I love about Anna Sui in general is the safe and generally appealing nature of her scents; they are all generally safe blind buys and will appeal to most people, BUT they are not "typical," as you will not smell them on everyone everywhere. This particular fragrance is darker, somewhat richer, and more opulent than most of Anna Sui's line, which is otherwise filled generally of the light fruity floral variety and most suited to summertime wear. La Nuit de Boheme Black is a dark, plummy, syrupy rose, with prominent sweet amber and patchouli. It is sweet and rich and perfectly matched to its eye-poppingly gorgeous boheme bottle. The La Nuit de Boheme Black journey starts out a little sharp, with a pleasant hit of sour apple and bergamot, but it quickly settles into the sweet plummy amber/patchouli that speaks of something classically 80s (as another reviewer pointed out). I guess having said "fruit" and "patchouli," you might be tempted to call this combination of fruit and patchouli "just another fruitchouli," but it's so much more; it's not just another assault of overwhelming fruit and in-your-face patchouli. It's more subdued, more subtle, and yet still potent and dark. Perhaps it's the fact that my skin tends to amplify patchouli, but I experience this as much stronger, darker, and perhaps even complex, than other reviewers have noted. I even love the patchouli here, which is something totally atypical for me. The patchouli is clean and sweet and herbal and creamy. No dirt and no nose-piercing sharp edges here! And it's super yummy in combination with the rich plum, rose, and amber. I simply adore La Nuit de Boheme Black for winter and I know that I can wear it anywhere and everywhere without concern of assaulting anyone with a heavy cloud...As much as I do love those clouds, they aren't always "allowed" or appropriate. Both sillage and longevity are great for my needs (of course, I enjoy having a variety of these, as I don't always want to wear powerhouse perfumes and particularly given the relatively low price point). Sillage is moderate for the first 5-6 hours or so and then softish for the next 3-5. I can also smell i the next day after a shower if I stick my nose on my skin. The nice thing is that even after I stop being able to smell very much of it, people around me can still smell it and have complimented me on it a number of times. LOVE!

Plum macerated with blackberry, soaked in amber, with a generous dose of jasmine (jasmine similar to that of Alien EDP, but only that note; the perfumes are not alike). To my nose, this alchemy smells like a kind of perfumed ice cream, delicious, and mouthwatering; however, it's neither an innocent nor a gourmand perfume. La Nuit EDP has a nocturnal, fascinating, even somewhat sinister feel. I dare say it reminds me of those somewhat decadent French cabarets of the 1920s that we see in some fantasy film. Okay, the scent isn't from the 1920s, nor is it dated; it's as if the atmosphere of that time has been recreated today. I bought it blindly; the bottle alone was worth it, one of the most beautiful I own. Some may find Anna Sui's bottles a bit tacky, exaggerated, but I, who am tacky, think tacky is the new fashion haha. It lasts for more than 10 hours and has dangerous projection in the first 4 hours. Highly recommended for those who like Alien EDP and enjoy striking perfumes.

I’m learning from this that I’m not a fan of a heavy blackberry. It smells juvenile to me. So, I have to wait for the blackberry to burn out to enjoy the fragrance more. In comparison with Incanto (as another plummy scent), this feels... not syrupy but more confectionery-like. Not the kind of plum I was looking for, but I’m keeping this nonetheless. It has its charms. The onyx roses of the bottle and the belle époque box are both gorgeous. So is the name. Just that makes it worth having for me even over the blackberry reservation. P.S. (December 2023): I have no idea why I thought the blackberry was juvenile before. It isn’t. I disagree with my earlier self. I also notice that the delightful fruitiness of this perfume is long-lasting. It is not the kind of perfume where others can smell it while the wearer stops after a while.

I absolutely love this fragrance. I only wish it had a little more sillage, and lasted longer! It is what some people would call a 'night' scent, but as it's not overpowering at all, I wear this in the daytime too. To me it seems a romantically dark amber rose, with a touch of blackberry and apple in the top notes. After a couple of hours the sandalwood comes through very pleasantly. I find it relaxing to wear and it feels like 'me', somehow. But I want it to be a little stronger, it fades on my skin too quickly. The bottle is also very beautiful - lends a feeling of gothic romanticism.

Flowery oriental scent! I genuinely adore this one because, to my taste, it is sweeter than floral. Mandarin, berries, apples, and middle fruit notes are the most prominent top notes. Any hints of the base notes are overshadowed by their pleasant aroma. If you enjoy sweet fruity scents, you might like this one. Compared to the majority of Anna Sui's range, this fragrance is darker, slightly richer, and more sumptuous. It is rich and sweet, and it pairs beautifully with the stunning bottle.

For the strangest reason, this reminds me of the old incense and trinket store that used to exist near me as a child. It’s very nostalgic with an added darkness to it that I very much appreciate. Perfectly matches the bottle.

Has anyone seen this perfume in Ross, or Tj Maxx in the past month?

I do love Oriental floral fragrances. I have several I tenderly love but this one is more sweet than floral for my taste. The top notes of mandarin, berries & apples & middle fruit notes stand out loud & proud. Their sweet scent shadows any glimpse of the base notes. I actually don't detect any of the base notes on me. I am not a fan of any of the sugar sweet syrupy scents. I didn't choose this scent. It was gifted to me so I never gave it a sniff prior to receiving it. It's a nice scent if you like sweet fruity scents. Imagine a pretty crystal bowl with fresh fruit ambrosia on a brunch table with a pretty center piece in another pretty crystal vase with baby roses & some white floral accents. That is this fragrance. I love "fixing" a fragrance if something doesn't sit well. Like a bar tender with all those juices on the mirrored shelf. I blend from my own collection. I should name my favorite blend concoctions after a cocktail. To fix this Ana Sui Parfum I spray a 1:1 ratio of this & Ombre Rose L'Original. The iris, tonka bean, cinnamon, musk, vanilla gives this a soothing sensual scent to me. Alone, Ombre Rose is a beautiful scent. I have my notebook of recipes. Blending scents can increase your current perfume inventory. Mixing these 2 changes them from their signature & the union is a blissful one.

If you find this at ROSS for 12.99 like I did .... Buy it! This is so well blended and lasts forever. It's very soft and powdery, I get a fruity-amber overall with a touch of vanilla. I think it's the musk at the end that makes it go on literally all day until I wash it off. Sandalwood gives an oriental powdery vibe, but mixed with jasmine and orange blossom smells spicy to me. Like I said, it's so well blended this is a scent that will keep you interested in what you are smelling. The bottle is gorgeous - pitch black with a striking gold butterfly cap. This is a perfume I will keep out just to enjoy the esthetics and use often for the beautiful scent. love and excited about it

I also bought it at Ross for $12.99 as a blind buy! The box was so beautiful, I could't imagine that it would smell bad. I am happy that I went out on a limb for this one. It smells like a great date night fragrance - lip smacking jammy sweet, but with a sophisticated undertone. It must be the amber that gives it depth and a kind of nostalgic feel. This is a Saturday night fragrance for sure. I'll wear it with red lipstick and polka dots.

Bought it at Ross for $12.99 as a blind buy. I like it a lot. It is sweet and fruity with amber. I love the smell of blackberries, sandalwood and amber so this fits me. It is young smelling and I am not young for sure, but it does have a sophistication about it that makes it not too youthful if that makes any sense. It has moderate sillage and longevity. The bottle is absolutely gorgeous. I'm glad I got it.

I have the sample of this. I tried it last night and I'm in LOVE. This smells beautiful, sweet, mature, warm, and sophisticated. And i agree with others that this perfume tells you a story. After few hours, I can smell the sandalwood developed in a sweet way, it's like a night dance in the fairy garden under the moon light. love love love this, Definitely will buy the big bottle. :)

First blast of sharp sweet yellow flowers that immediately turns powdery and musky as it settles on my skin, quickly fading as it dries. There's a bright almost acidic note that continues through the drydown that keeps it strangely youthful but not even five minutes later and I'm struggling to find the scent. What's left is a faintly pleasant faintly fruity hairspray scent. Meh. Feminine and best for cool weather. 6+ hours later: Well I don't know what fixative this one uses but this stuff is still going strong. The scent has deepened into darker flower and musk but still very much a hairspray scent.

I bought it because the bottle was kinda pretty and the notes seemed appealing, however I was left with a very herbal, medicinal, dark, and somehow sensual smell that I didn't quite like. I think it would suit someone going for a dark vintage yet elegant look, maybe a Morticia Addams? My friend likes it because it suits her vibes. Not for me, though. I prefer something lighter and sweeter.

For me, very intense rose! A dark rose, but very much a rose scent. I'm surprised people have voted it so far down on the pyramid because I feel rose is the most noticeable note of all. If you like a very sweet, strong rose with patchouli, you'll like this. Unfortunately, I do not like such strong rose notes.

This turns my stomach and has too much jasmine. Jasmine smells like artificial grape to me. Thanks, I hate it.

One of the most gorgeous bottles by Anna Sui yet (and that's saying something!) I am so tempted by this Parfum (especially as complaints about how her EDT's seem to not last very long) but skeptical. I would blind buy forbidden affair, secret wish, or magic romance secret wish based simply on the beauty of their bottles (and if I didn't already spend my fragrance budget this month!) Except that I generally avoid EDT's in general (of course, every rule must have its exceptions.) And, more importantly, the reviews seem to be not-great to mixed. Once I get paid again, I really should start looking at getting samples first, just to make sure I like the scent, but of all the flankers i've discovered on this site, Anna Sui's are the most bewitching. I always like inventing stories and atmospheres for fragrances, and a good scent conjures up so many memories. And of all bottles, I find Anna Sui's to be some of the most inspiring. I just hope the juice inside matches, and hope to see a review on here soon :)

I agree that this fragrance is for the night, its not jarring or musky, but contemporary, sweet and well composed. It's warm with a good deal of oil for staying power. The only thing is I feel this fragrance skips the top notes and goes straight to a muted floral heart. It packs no "punch" or panache. And I don't smell apple or sandalwood and I certainly don't discern blackberry (but I will leave that to being from a tropical climate and therefore it might be difficult to identify this note. I see other Fragrantica users seem to identify at least one note in each tier. This is of interest to me. The dry down reminds me of baby oil, a mild one. It's not for me, however I really appreciate the artistic bottle and with the floral and butterfly motifs. "La Nuit De Boheme" gold bottle is much better. Don't need this one in my perfume arsenal but for all who find it worthy, enjoy!
