Blazer

I was excited to see several of the Anne Klein fragrances I used to wear back in the 70's showing up on fragrance web sites this past year--and when I saw my old friend Blazer show up as well--(at a CRAZY low price!!) well--I had to order it!! It arrived today in it's familiar box and when I sprayed some on--it was just as I remembered it--I was working as a freelance fragrance model--(just a glorified salesperson/spritzer) when this scent won the FIFI award for best new scent of the year in 1977---I found it unique and fresh--(Love green chypre scents) perfect for work--bright and modern--it had a "working girl " vibe--and I can now spot the similarities to Charlie and Halston original. I did figure that this was a re-launch--and it's from a Palm Beach FLA based company--and it's actually made in China. And yet--it's just as I remembered! It's been a lovely blast from the past--I guess I'm nostalgic!! This scent reminds me of when I was young and green and fresh myself--and life was full of the excitement of being on my own in a big city with endless possibilities and adventures ahead!! SIGH!! This was when women just recently were able to have credit cards in their OWN names--and didn't need a father or husband to co-sign them for you--when birth control was newly easy to get from a doctor as a single woman--and rents for small apts in NYC were actually affordable if you had a retail job. (My 3 room studio in North Manhattan--was $175 a month in 1977)--lemme tell you folks--these were HEADY TIMES!!--Blazers had traditionally been a MALE item of clothing--but us young working women wore them to work--often with pants--and that was pretty heady too!!

A long time ago a young me fell heavily in love with the Christmassy-woody-spiced scents made by Clinique. I loved and wore Aromatics Elixir - which smelled like Christmas day by the fireside, but was considered quite a "mature" fragrance - in my 20s - giving not a jot what people thought of it (and still don't), but I loved equally - if not more so - their lighter, but still super Christmassy - clove-tangy Wrappings fragrance, which was Christmas markets and mulled wine on cold festive days out to me. Sadly while Aromatics Elixir is still going strong, Clinique discontinued the glorious Wrappings some time in the 90s and I was devastated :( I'm now pushing 50 and when I joined Fragrantica recently I noticed, as I browsed nostalgically. that here in "Blazer" was an obscure-and-unfashionable, but cheapie, kind of scent that reviewers were telling me was very similar to my long lost love Clinique Wrappings, so I ordered a bottle blind, and honestly? Love at first spritz, this surrounds me in that long lost beloved green-but-spicy cloud of cloves and Christmassy woods, but with a fresh citrussy spring in its step.... everything I loved about Wrappings is here, and I feel *happy* and full of joy in my spicy lovely cloud of gorgeous perfume nostalgia. What a gorgeous and unexpected scent in such an unassuming bottle. And it lasts really well too.... Thanks to all who've reviewed this and mentioned Wrappings! I am sure this is nothing like a dupe, but I don't have the original around any more, and this fragrance is absolutely, absolutely gorgeous and ticks all the boxes that Wrappings once did, so I am super pleased :)

Clean and optimistic, Anne Klein Blazer is a breath of fresh air in these dreary times. It's fun to think that this may have been formulated to have the power to cut through the cigarette smoke in the workspace that often would have ashtrays built right into the desks. Soapy sunbursts and orange marigolds mingle with steeped geranium leaves, and are all brought home by clove-spiced patchouli and buttery sandalwood. Blazer is long strides rather than diffident tiptoes, a "I'd Rather Fight Than Switch" Tareyton smoker who religiously watches Soap and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Cue Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time" and put that Riunite on ice. If Blazer had its own TV ad (there seems no evidence of such), it would deserve the Robert Abel and Associates treatment. Allegedly, this still smells great in more recent formulations with the white box/cap and black text.

Blazer is an underrated fragrance. I like the bergamot opening. This has a balanced green masculine and white feminine notes. It is a very good chypre that l recently discovered and a FIFI Fragrance (Oscar Awards) winner in 1977. 100% unisex in today's standards. One of my new classic vintage favorites.

I keep vacillating about whether to purchase this fragrance or not. I want to try it especially for the ambergris note listed above. I love salty ambergris smell in perfumery. This fragrance is still available for a very reasonable price. Has anyone tried the newest version of this fragrance? Jun 30, 2020 So I went ahead and purchased a 100 ml bottle of Blazer. My curiosity got the best of me! I received a cream colored box with black lion motif framed in red. The bottle is dated looking and simple but the glass is heavy and my lid is white with red stripes on bottom and top of it. The whole presentation is simple, practical and streamlined. The box says designed in USA made in China. I'm pretty sure this is the newest formulation. First spray and it's a heavy dose of bergamot. Followed by lots of geranium. I have several fragrances where bergamot is the top note but I have not smelled it as strongly as I do in this fragrance. I do get a bit of mentholated smell here as well, perhaps the juniper or cedar. Faintly I also smell the lavender. I DO get a bit of salt on the dry down from the ambregris. I am happy about that! I catch a whiff now and then of something faintly spicy, incensey way in the background, perhaps the cloves? This is a very unique fragrance. Definitely unisex. Defining words that come to mind are clean, sour, fresh, somewhat herbal, salty. Longevity about 2 plus hours on skin longer on clothes. If you like clean, fresh herbal fragrances appropriate for office, workout or any casual occasion this is a good one to try. Very affordable on Ebay or Amazon. January 2021 This has been a challenging scent for me to cozy up to! It's so SHARP! Initially it is very sour, but mellows out after awhile to a sharp, sour, flowery, citrusy type of fragrance. A contradicting recipe. This fragrance must have had a no nonsense business woman in mind upon creation. A total BOSS lady! That's the vibe I get here. Not romantic in the least...no time for THAT! Just the facts maam, thank you very much. I will wear this in the summer, that's when I wear most of my sour type fragrances and they seem to work better for me in the heat. Again, this is an absolutely unisex fragrance able to be worn successfully by anyone and everyone, but don't expect to have ANY fun while wearing it.

Interesting fragrance, I was nervous about the "green", but was pleasantly surprised at it's lack of leafy overtones. This classic fragrance has a very strong initial bergamot/Mint/Lemon blast but settles very quickly into a clam woodsy scent with a touch of citrus and heavy marigold (A note I quite enjoy after finding it in Adam Levine for Her). It's very nice on either men or women, certainly stands on its own as a classic 70's fragrance, and does seem to make me think of that era, which is far from a bad thing. It also doesn't come anywhere near what some may think of as "Old or Elder Mature", In all honesty I can't really see someone who you may classify as that type or in that category liking this perfume, I don't think teens would like it (aside from teen boys) but it just feels like a late 20's to 50's classy scent for those who are okay with a woodsy citrus unisex fragrance. If I had to sum this up I would think of a wooded area near a southern Gulf Beach, where you get whiffs of both, the amber adds a touch of fresh salt air to those woodsy citrus notes. I've worn it for several days now, and can certainly give it a thumbs up.(I am a guy in his 40's), but my Landlord's daughter tried it on, and ordered her a bottle, so unisex it is. You can get a 3.4 oz very reasonably so don't hesitate if you think the notes may do you justice. It sits well in the "Classy classic" category.

Quick Summary: Not a safe blind buy - a light and refreshing budget treat for those who already love 70's greens and chypres. For at least a week now I've been happily wearing Blazer off and on. What a fun treat for me, the vintage and chypre lover! I need to state what it IS and what it is NOT. This is not a powerhouse. (I have the reformulation from China.) This is not a dupe. It's similar to several things but not hugely like any. (Though I've not smelled Clinique Wrappings.) This is not for those who hate pickle or curry notes in their fragrance. It's present, however you define it. This is not a bit like either the original Anne Klein or AK II (both of which I've tested and enjoyed. A good, varied scent triology.) This Is refreshing. This Is light - cologne or body spray. This Is green. This Is unisex, by today's standards. This Is vaguely spiced and woody and coniferous. This Is very vintage! Just to have a piece of the past often makes me elated. So I am! Sprayed lavishly on fabric, I have a happy scent bubble of expensive-smelling time travel. The 'pickle' note reminds me of the one I smell in Jolie Madame, though they are otherwise different. For me personally, Blazer is quietly addictive and soothing. Aromatherapy, more than a fashion accessory, I think..... WIN! <3

I paid about $20 for an unused, original bottle. Older than the bottle depicted above, it's a splash with a metal cap. If the database is to be trusted, then "Blazer" is the first perfume from the Anne Klein brand. Blazer starts off strongly aldehydic, with mint and touches of citrus. Below this refreshing sparkle lies a unique floral bouquet; spicy carnation, green geranium, herbal marigold, redolent narcissus, and a shy lavender note. The base goes in an earthy, powdery, and fresh direction, with orris, sandalwood, cedar, patchouli. The moss and amber are decidedly scaled back. Think of a halfway point between L'Air du Temps and the original Halston, that's where this perfume sits. A refreshing, herbal chypre floral with an earthy, powdery base. A great option for the summertime if you've become sick of citrus colognes. Underrated brand. The first three releases from Anne Klein are impressive, and they sell at very low prices on the vintage market.

A very pleasing and still highly affordable aromatic chypre from a once-famous fashion house. This is much like Chypre-Siam from Rogue Perfumery, except minus the civet, leather, and heavy oakmoss (although actually many aficionados would agree those are the three best notes in Chypre-Siam!). This means a man could easily wear this fragrance--by 2023 it should be considered (non-controversially) unisex. The bottle is fun because its design, cap design, and label font all emblematize the 1970s Art Deco revival.

This was a blind buy that I purchased at the end of the summer. I am wearing it today for the first time. It is a power house! A bold patchouli, where other notes like: cloves, lavender, and mint peek through. This is classy and sophisticated. It's earthy and mature--but, not at all dated. It smells clean and fresh, with a touch of soap as it enters its dry down stage. This fragrance is older than me, and I am a fan! I love fruity florals, and the gourmand scents of today but Blazer is a nice change of pace!

This reminds me of Ralph Lauren Safari. May like this slightly better because it's a bit lighter and fresher. Both have a tinge of baby wipe smell which I'm not fond of but I do still enjoy both when I'm in the mood. Going to revise my opinion on this I actually like it quite a bit. It's fresh and light and clean and I don't really get the baby wipe smell anymore. Glad I discovered it

I bought this praying it would smells like Wrappings. Nope. It is however quite interesting. I've always wondered what people are talking about when they say a pickle note - here it is - I smell it. I also smell a warmer atmosphere than Wrappings, almost a little burnt curry like the smell of dried helichrysum, it doesn't have the bracing cool aldehyde quality, nor the complexity or green florality. I thought the mint and geranium would provide a mentholated whiff, but no, it doesn't. I've smelt a great many fragrances over the last 40 years or so and I honestly can't work out what to compare this to. In atmosphere it has the sporty green quality of Alliage (but isn't a smell-a-like at all). Perhaps a teeny hint to the original Moschino edt (without the power). I'm totally confused by this scent! Time will tell if I like it or not. For those seeking clarification - it's the made in china version, full new bottle, wears close to the skin, very unisex.

Kinda peppery. Earthy. Interesting. Floral in the background. Green... Not to be crude, but it smells like sex. Not dirty or nasty just, well, quite, ehem, sensual, in a very body positive sort of way.

This smells like Kramer VS Kramer.

To my nose, smells like it is in someone's armpit after drydown from workout. sorry i get nothing of the notes listed

I acquired a .25 oz parfum strength of this scent. A vintage, still wrapped in cellophane, distributed by Helena Rubinstein. Tearing off the cellophane, and lifting the cover, was like discovering a sealed treasure, untouched by time. The small bottle, with a large, sculptural stopper, looks a gem, and the amber colored perfume adds to the effect. I was afraid of breaking the delicate acrylic stopper, but I was able to twist it loose. Now the genie is out of the bottle. My nose was greeted with a bright, sparkling, green scent. Fresh and bracing! The aldehydes scintillate. I swipe the stopper on my arm and observe. This scent is somewhere between Sisley Eau du Sior, and Jean Louis Scherrer, with a smidge of Eau Des Merveilles. 30 mins in, and the mint comes out, but the aldehydes go into a shampoo territory. I'm reminded of Pert shampoo, but this perfume is more sophisticated, with a refreshing green bitterness. The drydown is sweeter, with subtle warmth from ambergris. This is the stage where I get the Eau Des Merveilles feel, but much lighter, and less sweet . I've always associated 70's chypres with an fusty, animalic, dankness, but Blazer perfume strength is as bright, fresh, and breezy as they come. I have the spray cologne somewhere. I'll have to compare them. They are both great. If you're into green scents, seek them out.

I find it so odd that I never ever tried this magnificent perfume! Maybe at the time it was released it seemed like an "old lady fragrance" so I never bothered with it! Fast forward many years and many would consider me the older side of young, I happened to receive a small bottle in a collection of vintage fragrances I purchased on ebay. Of course there were several that smelled awful and they were immediately pitched to the trash but when I opened the tiny bottle of Blazer I was immediately enthralled with the rich and spicy bouquet. I decanted some to a 5 ml spray bottle to get a better idea of what it smelled like and all I can say is "BEAUTIFUL!" I see there is a modern version which I have not tried but to distinguish the vintage from the present formulation, the lion is all black on the current bottle and the older version has the image framed in red. Gorgeous and fierce..the image should be a lioness! lol

I found this at TJ Maxx and picked it up because I wanted some more chypres in my collection, and I sort of like the bottle. I immediately, just by the notes thought it would be pretty similar to the original Halston, which came out a year before this. I already have Anne Klein II, which I was pretty disappointed by. It smells so, so much like Calvin Klein Obsession but doesn’t last nearly as long, and is not nearly as good as Obsession. I really wonder who copied who. I’m guessing it was Anne Klein. Once I sprayed it on, I definitely smelt a pretty big resemblance to Halston, although surprisingly I sort of like this more. It’s more spicy and a little more complex, and also maybe a bit more floral. I don’t see anyone who thinks this smells like Halston for some reason. The longevity, though is pretty bad. Halston definitely lasts way longer. Overall I was pretty impressed by this scent and would give it a 7/10.

At first i thought it smelled the same as "Just call me Maxi", and therefore I regretted that I bought it...for a minute. I really like this one more. They are similar, but this is softer and more ozonic, doesn't smell "vintage", but more timeless. It makes people curious and comfortable around me. Smells like fresh september air, an unusually dry and warm day. Freshly washed, clean, white sheets are drying in this warm breeze in front of a golden, freshly harvested wineyard. Someone is having a cup of tea and a piece of freshly baked carrot cake in this dreamscape. It's a pictured scene of an special kind of summer, the one that continues into september, oktober. The "indian summer". It smells warm, eternal, like it's never going to end...it's an abundant scent and it's blazing in golden, warm rays of the sun.

I’m pretty sure this has been discontinued sadly, . I remember finding this at TJ Maxx a couple years ago and seeing on Amazon , but now I only see it on sites like eBay or Mercari for inflated prices even though it’s the newer formulation made in China. I honestly think it’s nice. It’s a chypre very similar to Halston for women to my nose, but also has a slightly cumin-y note to it as well. The strength is ok doesn’t last a terribly long time but what can you expect from a perfume I bought for probably $11. I haven’t yet smelled the vintage formulation but I’d like to compare the two.
