Narcissus Poeticus

Narcissus can be so tough - to 'do' in perfume without dragging in shades of harsh fake scented products, or to wear without smelling of pee. Throwing honey into the mix - another note which often lingers way too near the bathroom floor for comfort - seems like tempting fate. Fear not. You're in the hands of a fragrant mage, Annette Neuffer, who works with only quality materials and knows her way up and down every garden path, from the blossom to the root. It's lovely. Scent of a spring day: with a magic mix of bright, heady, floral top and a sweet mellow earthy mulch of honeyed wood and spice below. It really does conjure little pots of Easter daffodils - maybe even with a sneaking hint, a sprig or spear, of un-mentioned hyacinth to give that juicy, green, almost grassy sense of fresh growth. No getting around it: another gorgeously true-to-life botanical natural from a terrific house. If you don't like the smell of real fresh narcissus, or feel you can't deal with the risk of its slightly, sometimes, urinous tinge - this will not please. The sappy, plant-juice tang of galbanum here isn't bitter or overbearing, but definitely front and forward; if its effect leaves you green at the gills, then strike this. In fact real narcissus sometimes isn't my favourite aroma either - but in this liquid form it's almost better than the real thing. Drawbacks: outrageously expensive. Not for blind buying in case it goes too pissy on your skin. Its double-extrait all-natural formula means projection shrinks fast - maybe down to a skin scent within 2-3h or so, but boy oh boy WHAT a skin scent... a soft, caressing, melt-into-your-own-smell bubble of happiness which is kind enough to puff out lovely wafts from your collarline/cuffline for up to 12-14h, which is rather amazing. One recommendation: if you can, try this along with Neuffer's other narcissus scent not yet in the database here - Narcissus Orientalis - which goes with the same theme but takes a mellower, spicier path there and leaves out the galbanum - which on me, makes it even lovelier and rather easier to wear than this one. What you lose in spring-freshness, you gain in multi-functionality - it's a bit more suited for different occasions. Overall: applying any Neuffer narcissus scent to yourself would be a pure and healthy form of self-love! Simply beautiful work.
