Mama

This perfume is heavy with a strong longevity. “Mama” doesn’t represent motherhood to me, nor does it represent the traditional understanding of motherhood in our culture. “Mama” smells smoky like the scent of stale cigarettes and other people’s perfume, long buried in the leather booths of an established dive bar. It is a heavy, nighttime scent. I’m sure someone out there could possibly relate this scent to their mother, but that has to be a very small percentage of the population. Were this perfume to be called “rock and roll,” it would be more accurate description of the overall aesthetic. The musk is strong, the day lilies are noticeable but in a unisex, eccentric rocker way, when combined with the persistent stale smoky accord and leather. I pick up on some magnolia scents, too. It’s a smell I want to walk away from quickly because it makes me feel nauseous. It is definitely not a “clean girl” scent. On a positive note, it smells expensive and bespoke, not synthetic. I’m sure there are people who would love this rather unique fragrance. Again, I am continually confused by how any of this has to do with “mamas.” It smells like a 24 year old single person.
