Sogni del Mare

I don't have any trouble smelling this, but bergamot notes always work well on my skin. I get mostly the bergamot and orange with a little watery lotus in the background. I like it very much and I think it would work very well as a fresh summer fragrance.

For quite some time I lived by the ocean in Southern California. This is the walk home from a day spent in the ocean. Pretend that you wore a simple unobtrusive floral fragrance for your day at the beach. While there, you ran with children, built sand castles, and bathed in the saltwater. You met a friend there who has a skiff and you traveled out midway to the horizon with them and you relaxed in the boat while they fished a bit, then you both came back to land where you gutted the catch and placed it on a cast iron skillet over a bonfire to cook. Sleepy and content, you walk back to your cottage. Your initially floral scented skin is now covered in the pungent brine of sweat and salt water surf warmed by a day's worth of the sun. Your skin is slightly gritty and your muscles feel alive and tingling. The faintest traces of marine essence and smoke trail around you from the fresh fish fry but nothing offensive. I've found that all of Antonia's Flowers are lifestyle fragrances--they truly evoke a moment and they do it well. This fragrance adequately captures the scent of a day at the beach, but not that tourist-y affair filled with cheap souvenirs and overcrowded sandlots. No, this is the one that the locals remember as simply being the way they spent their childhood---quiet reverie coupled with joyous everyday outdoor celebration.

The opening notes are fantastic...salty, summery, with just a tang of fruit. It really does evoke a dreamy seaside cottage on the Atlantic. Unfortunately, this stage lasts for less than 10 minutes, and then Sogni del Mare mutates into a fruit-scented-candle smell. Not a cheap candle, but definitely boring and not like anything natural. Utterly disappointing.

I got this as a mistaken gift but tried to see how it was. Well, I really didn ́t like it (and I have a new full bottle with me). It was too strong for me and smelled just like a flower powdery perfume. And since I don ́t like flower perfumes, I didn ́t like this neither. I didn ́t smell any water of fresh in it.
