A Rose is a Rose

This is extremely unique and very pretty in a timeless way. The rose notes are photorealistic and so beautiful it would have been enough for me. But the composition as a whole is so deep and complex I am still learning to understand it after nearly two weeks of wear. I am not an expert but to me this fragrance is a journey. The pink pepper, saffron and cumin top notes offer a somewhat dry, serious and unisex opening. Once the roses bloom you are in a garden enjoying a dish of something like a heavily spiced rice. When the oud, ambergris and musk take hold it's like a warm hug that stays with you for hours. It took a little while for my nose to adjust to the ambergris because it has been some time since I have worn this note but now it is like wearing a beautiful memory of well dressed women of the past. On one of my testing days I sprayed my skin in the morning, changed clothes in the afternoon for a workout and the fragrance still lingered on my workout top three days later when I went to do the laundry. This was just the transfer from my skin to the fabric. I have not sprayed directly on fabric because it is rare here and also special to me because it was a prize from the recent contest so I am a little sentimental about it. Needless to say the longevity is fantastic, the way perfumes used to be. It's a total love for me. But I do not recommend a blind buy as it is very specific and I imagine the high quality of natural ingredients makes it wear very specific to your own skin chemistry because it blooms on your skin. It is suitable for a signature fragrance because it is very unique and people will definitely remember it as a stand out among a sea of familiar compositions. This review was made early summer and I am looking forward to learn how it performs in cold weather as well.

I have a sample of this and I’m far more impressed with it than I thought I would be. I should have known it would be beautifully blended, which it is, but the development of different notes is excellent the longer you wear it. I don’t get as much citrus as others refer to but I do get the roses and musk with herbal notes. Fortunately not too much with the herbs as these often smell like stuffing in a roast chicken to me. I think this perfume should be described as balsamic, rather than herbal. I have many rose fragrances, but this one is different. Sadly I expect it costs a small fortune!

It is super spicy Rose Barbare. I love the scent, but I hate the bottle...very distasteful and tacky. Never justify the price tag.

I barely detect any rose in it actually, but the citrusy notes are very strong. It's a very sunny fragrance. A rose and grapefruit cocktail on the beach. A anti-goth rose. Very weak and for me unremarkable for the price. Expected a little more from a Dominique Ropion rose fragrance supposedly made of very high quality ingredients. I think rich beige ladies in their 50's might like it.

Simple oily rose - no more no less. No character, no originality. It does not have character of Une Rose or Portrait of Lady. All this line is very boring - all perfumes are variations of the existing perfumes.
