Anabasis

As muzzbait said previously, this is by far the freshest/lightest/safest/most mass-appealing fragrance in the amazing Apoteker Tepe line. And probably the most spring/summer appropriate. It beautiful, just not weird. Honestly, every time I smell it, i immediately think it would fit in perfectly with the Hermes Jardin line, much more so than the last addition of Jardin sur la Lagune... IMO, this is more in line with Ellena’s work than his successor’s creation. It doesn’t exactly smell like any of them, but just has a similar overall vibe, and elements of this fragrance remind me of various facets of the different Jardin fragrances... it feels very Ellena-esque to me, but without feeling derivative, which is definitely high praise in my book. The only negatives are that i find it quite weak and fleeting compared to the other Tepe fragrances. Longevity is rather bad actually, on my skin or on fabric it’s barely there after an hour or two. In contrast, some of the other Tepe scents last literal weeks clothing.

#633 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant from Scent Split. Definitely ordering a full bottle. This is a great fougere! Very green, minty and old school. Even has kind of a beach vibe if you think beaches of the Northwest tucked under an evergreen forest. If you like scents like Dior Eau Sauvage, Bogart's Pour Homme, Bogart, Bogart One Man Show, One Man Show Emerald, this is that kind of scent to absolute perfection. Solid performance. Probably more for older guys, but not a grandad scent. Car pool, elevator and office safe. Appropriate for formal wear.

This one is the closest to FB for me in the whole line because it is the most wearable. However, it reminds me too much of a cocktail with all the mint and the shiso. It's supposed to be green but honestly, it's more of a gourmand. I am definitely impressed by the quality though. It's just that I want something green and forest-y and not a gourmand. So I won't be getting a FB but it is really nice! EDIT: I have now caved and got an FB of this. It's actually a very addictive scent. Like I cannot get it out of my mind when I don't have it on LOL

This feels alive, like freshly cut greenery. The shiso note is incredibly persistent. Out of the notes supplementing shiso I get more oak than cedar but clearly there are woody touches here that give me the overall impression of freshly shaved, lightly sappy, wet, bark. Very much overlooked from the apoteker tepe line up. Astounding longevity for such a seemingly fresh and green scent.

My current favorite from the line. Anabasis opens with huge, fresh notes of shiso, mint and what I imagine is yuzu and lime. These sit over a base of wood notes that add to the surroundings with musk to soften it all up. There's a bar in the city that makes a shiso gin and tonic and this is the smell when you take a gulp from the glass. Refreshing, bright and green.

just got it and WOW! first off i get a niche version of Bernard Duechfords Renegades, then about 30 seconds later im getting a slightly fresher Fredrick Malle French Lover - suuper high quality, this is in the air by the way didn't even have to get close to my wrist i can smell it 3 feet away !

If you love green scents, you have to smell this one. Honestly, I could wear it any time, any season, anywhere. It's definitely the most broadly wearable thing I've found from Apoteker Tepe, and I love their stuff. Very leafy, and always enjoyable to wear.

Less challenging and more wearable dense aquatic-green with something fruity in the back. Very realistic.

I am so happy that this line was revived -- truly too wonderful a line to remain vaulted and at the mercy of ebay sharks and the like. But also too wonderful a line to remain the domain of insta fragrance influencers who 'flex' for the sake of flexing... Anyway, this particular scent, Anabasis (which I'm sure takes its name from the literature and NOT the act of ascending), is quite possibly the most NORMAL and mainstream of the whole line, and I say that with no malice or judgment. It's quite simple, compared to some of the other, more weird scents. Anabasis is an uplifting (LOL) citrus-herb scent, with a mild, though dark-stank base. The whole scent works quite well as a unified perfume, and it lasts quite a while. The citrus elements of the scent do tend to lean a little bitter, like a peel or rind, and the herbal elements do lend a bit of sourness to the scent, but overall, this is a well-put-together scent which will speak to many people. I'm so glad it's back...

Anabasis ... is amazing. It's green, green, green, all the way down, like a harmless tumble down through a spiky coniferous canopy of fir and pine needles, sap and dew and bark cascading over your skin in waves, a smear of peppery latex-like vine juice, then a heap of wet crushed grasses and reeds, landing in a sticky pool of green green galbanum. It *really* smells of plants is what I'm saying. It's a little too sharp and bitter-vegetal for me to completely adore - there's just so much chlorophyll in there and not much of sweeter or more resinous ingredients to mellow it or soften the overwhelming botanical funk - but it's absolutely beautiful and wild and natural. Astonishing stuff from a house which is quickly becoming my favourite nest of weirdos. If you thought Zoologist could be challenging, then Apoteker will blow your mind. Bear in mind that I am not even a massive fan of the greens (in perfume) and yet this is something other. Extraordinary.

Returning to this one after a few years of absence... I sharp green herbaceous note blending with a citrus note -- both blend well into each other, but there is also a bitterness there, maybe lemon peel or something similar. Whatever it is, it colours the herb note well and both elements work well together. There is also soft woods note in the background -- my mind didn't automatically go to pine, something a bit softer, but I might be wrong, it's like the 4th or 5th note I detect. This is by FAR the most normal and regular Apoteker Tepe scent, I must say. It has the least weirdness and just feels like it doesn't belong. In fact, it's a bit mainstream and borderline designer. Nothing niche or indie about this one, and that is NOT an insult. It's the one that sticks out from the line, by NOT sticking out...

I'm easily swayed by familiarity. The fact that this shares its name with the title of one of my favourite Dead Can Dance songs was admittedly a driving factor in my insistence to smell it. Although short-lived, the initial shiso explosion is nothing short of divine! Wafting down gently to a fresh greenness reminiscent of broken fig leaves. The birch emerges through the green, yet cleverly manages not to overpower or lend its overly tarry nature. This isn't a powerhouse, but it doesn't need to be. It journeys quietly towards its finale of cedar and musk. As an afternote: the bit of spray that did manage to get on my clothing retained the green aspect for quite a while afterwards. I don't think I'll be changing my shirt until I've huffed every last gorgeously fragrant molecule out of it.

This is like rubbing your skin with pine, basil and mint. I did not review the notes before sampling and felt a slight 'tingle', akin to menthol. I could be just insane. Truly herbaceous. If you do not like green scents, this is one to steer away from. I enjoy green, so I enjoy this. However, I'd need to wear it out more as I feel like despite it being rather approachable, is not something I see myself regularly wearing outside of early day wear prior to really going out.

this citrus juice wears quite close to the skin with a quite a long life. the conifers and resins sit meekly in the background, and whilst it smells nice and has potential, it really doesn't carry it all that far. kinda expected a little more from this, and, to be honest, it does disappoint a little. that said, it is quite nice to smell, it just doesn't evolve, progress or develop enough. i enjoyed it, true, but it didn't blow me away...

@Marck Menke - FYI Apoteker Tepe was an unrelated brand that went out of business before Pineward was around. Pineward acquired the rights to re-release the entire line as originally created. So it is now produced by the makers of Pineward, but the formulas (except Kogen) are attributed to Apoteker Tepe's Holladay Saltz rather than Pineward's perfumer Nicholas Nilsson

Very satisfying and not at all "minty" in the toothpaste sense. Bright green, with plenty of citrus and chlorophyll. I love my pure green scents and Anabasis is a delightful example.

Smells like a mint mojito with a sharp basil note (the shiso) By far the safest in the Apoteker Tepe line. It's pleasant, well blended, nothing mind-blowing--which is what some situations call for.

Another geometric perfume from Apoteker Tepe and Holladay Saltz. This one is a simple pyramid structure. The top notes of hesperidics and mint are pointed and distinct, but the breadth is quite minimal; they stay narrow and pointed for a very, very brief time until they dry down to a middle section with more noticeable breadth of pine, incense, and birch. It's really very pretty in a classic cologne style; light weight, luminous, fresh, and diffusive. Kudos for keeping the resins dry and airy, rather than sticky like they often are, and the woods like a fine saw dust wafting in the air rather than splintery and sharp. These, unfortunately, fade very quickly as well to a simple Iso E Super base and musks, which in keeping with the pyramidal shape has more breath but it's also here on the ground level where things are a bit flat and unremarkable. This is a very nice incense woody cologne, and I'm really enjoying Saltz's style of the ones I've experienced thus far of staying on the side of light, luminous, diffusive and easily breathable. The problem is that they are EdPs, supposedly, and even if we were to instead consider them as EdTs there is still a lack of richness and longevity that should be there especially at the price point. So, while I enjoy smelling Anabasis, its derivative nature in conjunction with a lack of performance means I will not be opening up my wallet for a full bottle.

Its okay it really reminds me of being in a garden full of greens. The opening is really green then it drys down into a lighter green with a little citrus mix. Imagine freshly cut grass with a light mix of mint and citrus.

Anabasis is primarily composed a complex mint note and a blend of citrus oils. The mint note possesses both the freshness of menthol and also greener, foliar elements that are indeed suggestive of the herb, shiso (Perilla frutescens var. crispa). Subtle aspects of resinous pinewood are also detectable. Anabasis literally mean 'ascent' in Greek, thereby serving as a fitting moniker for "a scent' composed of such freshly uplifting aromatic notes. Of course, Anabasis is also the title of a reknowned classical history by Xenophon. Overall, this anabasis seems best suited as a fragrance meant for active diurnal pursuits during warmer weather. Though Apoteker Tepe is listed on Fragrantica as a separate brand, its samples come bottled in Pineward spray tubes. Both brand names seem to be product lines of the same company.

Anabasis opens very green and bright, there are prominent citrus, mint, and shiso notes mixed with a general feeling of freshness. Pine is present in a very small amount, not enough to be picked out individually but enough that it lends a bit of a prickly texture. The citrus and mint give it a Mint Julep sort of feel, but there is a lot more greenery going on here that makes it more than just that. Musk appears after the citrus has retreated a bit, I don't get any smoke but the fuzzy-feel of the musk does have that type of quality. I was underwhelmed when I first smelled Anabasis, but subsequent wearings have given me a deeper appreciation for it and it's one of my favorites of the line currently.

Leafy green! Citrus rind hit in the background but you gotta go sniffing for it. It has a little bit of a natural place tree smell going on in the background generally, but overlaid with this bitter green leaf. Texturally the leaf smells a bit furry? Kind of like how a mint leaf would be, but it doesn’t really come across like a mint leaf. It’s quite stemmy. Smells of a natural thing.

Smoky pine scent with some hints of freshness. That pretty much sums up this scent. With that being said it's very versatile. Could be an all seasons scent. I have not smelled many of these type of scents as they are not really not my cup of tea but it is a well made scent. If u like Lutens Fille en Aiguilles then sample this one.

It's a yellow-green scent. I detect a mature, ripe lemon at the start, not sparkling but rather calm. Even though the classic green notes stand out, it quickly becomes somewhat woody. It smells raw, mature, somewhat earthy, and also a touch of healing bath. In someway it's very traditional

Greeny citrus, freshly from forest in spring season. It also gives the essence of a citrus evian water! clean fresh and greeny, like a cooling breeze.

Fresh, green woods but smells more like a candle than a perfume. 6/10 This has been another edition of "LittleDinkums Reductive Reviews."
