Bohemian Spice

I often find it difficult to write a sensible review for a fragrance that knocks me off my feet. How do I wrap my head around the right words when I feel as if I'm going to swoon every time I sniff my wrist?! This is one of those scents, for me. I find it absolutely perfect in every way. I love patchouli, and it is definitely the main note in this fragrance, but it sings a wonderful duet with cinnamon. The sandalwood, vanilla, and incense keep the patchouli note warm and soft...and docile. (I should note that I did not detect the clove note, which usually gives me a great deal of trouble.) There was an introductory symphony of orange, lavender, and possibly a bit of vetiver, accompanied by the leading note of patchouli on the initial blast. This created a sense of briskness, but these edgy components died away quickly and left a resonating, evocative base note of softly-spiced warm patchouli at the perfect pitch. Deep and earthy, warm and refined, it feels like a fragrance that speaks to my soul yet breaks my heart at the same time. I want it so badly, and it is so far out of my budget (when considering price per ml). I may have to settle for the similar, but rougher, dirtier, and more head-shoppy, PG Intrigant Patchouli, which, although still beautiful to me, pales in comparison to the angelic Bohemian Spice.

This is the best patchouli fragrance I have ever smelled. Like a well aged wine, Bohemian Spice is something you take the time to savor you don't spritz it without a second thought. There is a foody aspect I am not used to smell in a patchouli based fragrance that make BS even more scrumptious. I did not detect the lavender or even the orange, for me it's all about the base notes and it did not evolve much from the beginning, it just become more subdued with time. There is a good chance that I will buy a bottle of this, the only thing that would dissuade me to do so is the fact that BS is too perfect. I tend to prefer imperfect and unusual things for myself and that include perfume. I am totally bewitched by Erdenstern because it is different. BS is a little bit more conventional but still got plenty of artistic (bohemian) vibe. I will finish my sample before committing...

It is quite different from what I had been thinking, it really impressed me. This lovely fragrance starts out with sweetish, incensey and fruity notes that strongly remind me a jorney between the Sicilian fields to Middle East. A heavenly mixture of cloves, cinnamon, orange, patchouli, vanilla, ...to some the opening may give off the type of scent one would accustom to..i don't know...an elderly man. Once that drydown arrives...you ain't smelled nothing like it. Ever. Period. Imagine a milky, creamy, fluffy, sweetened vanilla-bean grounded by a very very light hint of spice. PERFECT....

I've found my natural counterpart to Coromandel. Bohemian Spice is a gorgeous, hyper-balsamic, creamy white chocolate dream. I know the notes say vanilla, but maybe when it's blended with the other notes it smells like whilte chocolate and the sweet air inside a bag of marshmallows. There is more beautiful sandalwood, rich patchouli, and smoky frankincense as the perfume develops on the skin. This is the ultimate Oriental and makes me feel like I'm an empress from an exotic land. I will own this one. Updates: I now stock this fragrance, but my opinions are my own. Further, I do own it now, and I get a lot more orange in the mix, which I really love. I now find it less sweet and creamy than Coromandel and more woody on the whole.

Opens with an intense patchouli and clove combo that I love. I used to have a deodorant by a brand that was discontinued that was patchouli and clove scented and I loved it so much. I tried replicating it but to no avail. This opening smells just like it. It quickly dries down to a more smoky, spicy, dirt scent. I like it and I don’t think it’s too masculine. My high school hippie self would’ve killed to smell like this. I’m into it but probably won’t get a full bottle.

Gorgeous scent! Remarkably similar to Jovoys Les Jeux Sont Fait. A gorgeous brown spicy slightly syrupy whisky/brandy connotation with what comes across as some currants or dried fruit. If I didn’t have a bottle of Jovoy I’d be ordering this...

It's very similar to Calling All Angels from the same house, only more bitter with that earthy patchouli. It's earthy, smokey, slightly sweet.

Wonderful perfume, a masterpiece !!! I want it...

This has Alessandro Gualtieri written all over it. This reminds me of black afgano but with incense of the fresh cut lumber variety.

This is a boring orange spice fragrance. Smells like a Mrs. Meyers all purpose cleaner, which I like to clean my house with but I want to smell more sophisticated, interesting and dynamic than that! This house is sooo hippie dippie. I imagine 60's love ins and other weird gatherings w/ this fragrance. Not a place I would ever go or want to be.

This kind of perfumes seem to be way too strong for me. All I smell is the incense. It almost smells like a burned down pile of wood to me. Fine wood though, not just any wood. But I do not smell anything else but the incense. Too bad because I really like the blend of ingredients and I also very much appreciate the organic quality.

very Patchouli scent and masculine 6/10

Musty, elderly. Unpleasant. Scrubber.

This is an earthy patchouli over a vetiver frame with a citric twist upfront. It’s green and rootsy and there’s a prominent woodshop-note throughout that smells similar to Precious Woods’ cedar bomb. Combined, these notes come off as quite dry and even slightly charred but there’s a minor vanilla that peeks through to keep the scent from becoming too coarse. Personally, I find this to be one of the most compelling scents in the line, but I should note that, like Calling All Angels, it’s not all pretty visions from start to finish. In fact, this is one of the dirtier patchouli scents that I’ve run across. It’s largely the cedar notes that cause this, but they’re tempered by a series of spices that never quite cross into the realm of gourmand, instead keeping the scent firmly planted in the ground. The vanilla is aloof, playing much more of a supporting role, but once some of the more turpenic notes drift away, it takes on more of a guiding role as the scent softens into a fairly gentle and powdery sandalwood. Sadly, the Oman incense (one of my favorites) doesn’t emerge as much as I’d like it to, and I can really only detect it once the opening notes have decayed. It adds depth to the mix, but I’d be hard pressed to consider this an incense fragrance. The opening is surprisingly rough, but within twenty minutes or so, the scent softens and things fall into place a little more. Given this, fans of patchouli fragrances are encouraged to give this a spin, but keep in mind that it’s one of the more adventurous scents in the line and I suspect that the opening might be a challenge for some. Me? I like it very much.

This one is as if i got into food storage room where spices and grains are kept. Allot of black pepper is kept there with allot of Arabian & Indian spices. If you want a cheaper similar fragrance like this one then just book a table in any Indian authentic restaurant, sit by the cooker and have him blowing the steamy smoke on you... Voila you are done :) But this one is kind of more like dried stored spices. Pass for me. Edit (12st Jun 2016) WTH? I guess the sample that I got wasn't the "bohemian spice"! Bohemian spice is about the incense, cinnamon, henna, and some patchouli and woods. It's quite impressive in away that it has some similarities with "Reckless" by Roja Dove & "Sanctum" by RamonBejar & that leads to similarity with "Calling All Angels" from April Aromatics specially when it calms down it goes quite near to "Calling All Angels". Interesting. Edit (27th Dec 2016) This fragrance is natural in away that when it's kept in a bottle for long it gives a complete different essence every-time! now after bringing this sample out and spray abit on my skin i get a vanilla spice chocolate! yes slight henna and cinnamon but mostly the vanilla milky chocolate with burnt effect somehow more than it is the spices i sniffed the first time! the calmer it goes the more burned chocolate i get as the patchouli is sensed there a bit with a side of burnt sandalwood. It is quite weird when a scent it made of a complete natural ingredients it just changes without any further notice! Damn..

Bohemian Spice... I was thinking, how can I describe something that is really magnificent, something that is like a Black Prince's Ruby in a Royal Collection, or a rare art work of Renoir in a Sotheby’s New York auction...something that is amazing, not because I, myself, like it... but because It is really rare, precious and unique. In our, human world, we usually have 5, at best 6 senses working. Perfumes in our world usually influence these few senses. Now, imagine Olympus, the world of the Gods. Gods are advanced Beings, they are whole, they have 360 senses . So, if You could imagine a fragrance, that when You use it, it touches Your Divine, God Self and opens up all Your 360 senses. When You use God’s fragrance, Your intuition opens up, You start see people with their Auras and Thoughts and You can even see their past and future by looking at them... This is how powerful Bohemian Spice is. It has specific high frequency that helps brain use more of it’s potential. Bohemian Spice is the Fragrance of the Gods. It is Food of the Gods. And if You ever were dreaming about becoming more than human... this is what can get You on a Journey!

This is lovely! Of the nine April Aromatics I've tried, three were too Rosy (hate rose - can't help it) three were gorgeous florals (Jasmina, Unter der Linden and Liquid Dreams) and three were fabulous woody incense-y fragrances (Calling All Angels, Bohemian Spice and Precious Woods). Never have I liked so many perfumes in a sample set. I have a bottle of Calling All Angels but Bohemian Spice was a very close second and a full bottle may be in my future. There's something about April Aromatics that has me considering giving up the whole perfume chase and settling down with this one line. Could be there's something to this aromatherapy, all natural, crystal stuff? I never imagined myself paying good money for something "infused with clear crystal and Herkimer diamond. Bottled on a Full Moon. Each bottle contains 24 karat gold flakes" Yet, here I am contemplating another bottle and the chakra set too. Somehow this stuff manages to be full on fabulous perfume and make the wearer fell good as well. No other perfume, natural or otherwise, that I've encountered can do that

Dusty. Smokey. Like breathing in second hand smoke from a passing hippie's herbal cigarette. I don't hate it, but it's definitely not my speed. I've been wearing this for two hours this time around and it's still quite strong on my skin, with very little projection (1 to 2 inches.) Past attempts have given me six hours of wear with the same limited projection. I'm testing this on my bicep and Thierry Mugler's Angel on my forearm. I only mention this because I assumed Angel would bug my nose but every time I sniff Bohemian Spice it makes me sneeze. I'm actually a bit congested because of it. I have no idea what causes that but I think I'll be divesting myself of this sample in short order. I've tried a number of samples from April Aromatics and haven't found any that have spoken to me. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Jasmina but there are better jasmines out there.

I found Bohemian Spice to be a bold masculine, earthy/ grounding cool weather scent. Initially this scent on me was mostly sandalwood and vetiver; graceful and classy, dry and smooth. Almost like walking into a forest, as it started to evolve, I picked up more earthy patchouli- like a fresh forest after the rain- the feeling you would get from a tranquil stroll through the woods. For those that are not patchouli fans, I found this is one that didn't overwhelm everything else, it stayed harmonious with the other elements in the scent. The undertones of lavender adds a little spice and elegance to the scent while the vanilla, appearing later, I find seamlessly fuses, appearing and disappearing through the sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli. I find this one to be very attractive, sensual- everything I would want in my ideal man's scent.
