Kalemat

Living in Dubai, UAE, I have the opportunity to sample a lot of fragrances. We have the usual European and American fragrances in the major retail outlets, as well as the indigenous Arabic perfumes obtained through a host of Gulf-based perfume houses, each with their own characteristic styles and fragrances to appeal to the massive market for fine fragrances in this region. It is no exaggeration to state that I am spoiled for choice and even within a few kilometres from my house, I can obtain the best of designer, niche and local fragrances (mukhallats, attars, etc) as I wish. Indeed, it is a terrible temptation.... :) Every now and then, however, a cross-over product appears...one which tries to merge something from Western and Middle Eastern perfume traditions to give an expression which is greater than the sum of its parts. Needless to say, the history of perfumery is littered with the wreckage from this risky Franco-Arabian stratagem ... But once in a while, one such adventure succeeds. To my mind, Kalemat EDP by Arabian Oud is one such fragrance and one which deserves truly stellar acclaim. For a start, this is an oriental fragrance from the Gulf but one without oud, the characteristic Middle Eastern fragrance note that can often be too much for Western noses. Instead, the focus here is upon honeyed-amber, an absolutely delicious concoction which spells out beauteous luxury and sensuality. It is very, very special. The opening here with blueberry and anise quickly becomes engulfed by honey rising from the base. I found myself thinking of of the honeyed-tobacco of Pure Havane, though this does inevitably go in a different direction. When the amber and rosemary follow through, it becomes clear that this is a really superbly blended fragrance, and a real treat for those who like orientals without them being too traditional. With Kalemat, it also has the feel of an Arabian fragrance but it never becomes offensive to an open-minded wearer. I agree with the comments that suggest it is a comfort scent, which may feel like it sits close to the skin - yet it is projecting all the time. As a man, I find that the anise - which very often can veer a fragrance towards a barbershop vibe - is very modest and well-balanced, giving it a focus more like the anise in L'Instant de Guerlain rather than YSL Rive Gauche PH or Azzaro PH. This masculine note certainly does not get in the way of a woman wearing and enjoying the fragrance. All said, Kalemat EDP by Arabian Oud is definitely worth a try if you have the opportunity. Here in Dubai it is very often the case that the Arabian Oud outlets have 50% discount sales going on in this competitive market. So I was able to purchase a 100 ml bottle for just over $40, but it is clearly worth so much more (and the presentation is lovely as well). Highly recommended try for a beautiful oriental.

2013, I was in a doctor’s waiting room in Saudi Arabia, when a young couple walked in holding hands. The room became filled with a most heavenly, delicious scent. I wasn’t sure if it was coming from the man or the woman (probably both). It was a sweet, warm, fuzzy aroma..rich, soft and intoxicating. There was a sensual and mystical quality to the scent, it wasn’t your ordinary sweet scent. For a split second, I actually wondered if it was one of the exclusive Mugler scents (Mugler is popular there, so it wasn’t too far-fetched of a thought). Anyways, back to the aroma, it smelled like clouds, golden fluffy clouds, made of amber, honey and vanilla...that smell became imprinted in my memory for years. I smelled a light touch of booziness or spice? Maybe resin or incense? I wasn’t sure what it was at the time. I couldn’t muster up the courage to ask what fragrance it was, but I went on Fragrantica as soon as I got back home (with my old account), I did an extensive note search, and even posted in the forum, describing what I’d smelled and asking for suggestions. All of this effort, led me to believe that the couple were wearing Gaultier 2, and the notes and reviews fit. I excitedly ordered a bottle blind (it was expensive too), and was sorely disappointed when I recieved it. Nope. It was a harsh vanilla, thick, boozy and masculine. Where were the fluffy amber clouds of honey? I gave away that bottle to a male friend. I went to my favorite perfume guy next, and he recommended Guerlain L’Instant (very lovely! But nope, not it either). So I gave up. Fast forward to January 2020, I have FINALLY found it!! THIS! Kalemat! This is it! And Gawd, it’s scrumptious. Looking at the notes, I now know that the ‘fuzziness’ of the scent was the cashmere wood note. I can’t believe vanilla isn’t listed, because I sure do smell it. I have been staying at my mom’s for a while, and she recently pulled out two bottles hidden away at the back of her closet, Kalemat and Kalemat Black, they had been gifts and she told me they were too strong for her tastes. What a marvelous twist of fate. She’s become more sensitive to smells with age, favoring light florals and soft white musks, so I could have them. I am ridiculously happy about this. They’re both similarly delicious and warm, with Kalemat Black being abit smokier and darker (I’m thinking maybe the couple had worn a combination of the two). I love them both, they’re totally unisex, but for Westerners, these scents probably lean feminine. I highly recommend these to lovers of sweet, warm, and cozy smells...sillage and longevity are both beasts, but your nose gets used to the smell...trust me, people over 6 feet away can smell you, and they’ll be able to smell you many hours after (or many years later :) .

This is the perfume that got me into perfumes. My dad was at work one day, when he walked into the elevator. He said it smelled like literal heaven. He went up to his floor, only to find that his friend was the one wearing it. He asked him what he was wearing and he bought it on the spot online. A week later, I went to see my mum, and I was surrounded by the most glorious aroma. The definition of intoxicating. I bought a bottle for myself that night. I have spent YEARS trying to find the perfect perfume, nothing quite really hitting the mark, until I smelled this. It comes in a box that looks like a book. You open it up, and you see another book. Underneath it, is the bottle, wrapped in a small ribbon. "Kalemat" means "words" in Arabic, with words like love, feelings, beauty, happiness, and respect also engraved on the bottle. The atomiser dispenses a generous amount of fragrance and it comes out in a fine mist. On the first spritz, it's a sweet aroma of... nothing you can quite make out. It's so well blended, I can't smell anything separately. And there's no other perfume that smells quite like this. The easiest way to describe it is a honeyed, cashmere amber. It smells like heat. The sweetness and smokiness is so well balanced, its the most unisex thing I have ever smelled. The blueberry sweetness only slightly appears on the first spritz, but I only say that because it gets deeper, darker, muskier with time. That's what it "smells" like, but it's so much more than that. This just hits the pleasure centers of the brain, like a drug. I can see how this might just smell "nice" to some people, but it truly is unique and an amazing composition. I don't know how they did it. "Kalemat" is and is not the perfect word for it. You can't describe it with words, and yet it can only be described as poetry. The old Arabs were masters of poetry, writing about life, love, happiness, fear, the divine, and Kalemat is the embodiment of poetry. Not any specific poem, just poetry in general. This might be a little cloying in the summer, but I honestly don't care. I will wear this all day, every day. I want to smell like someone out of Aladdin, a personification of Arabian Nights. The projection, as demonstrated above, is enormous. One spray is enough to fill two rooms and a half, any more and people will smell you from across the street. It will also last until you take a shower (or two) or wash your clothes (with some heavy duty detergent). If it doesn't last or project this long, something's wrong with the juice (or your nose). Arabian Oud, I don't know what sorcery this is, what heavenly compounds you used to compose this, but please keep using them.

What a complex piece of work. Upon first application there are so many notes hitting my nose, changing, like a classical piece of music. They waft in and out, changing even more according to the distance between my face and skin. On first application I get a very heavy sense – yes sense! – of cool menthol pastilles, with a woody note, this is intriguing, however odd, the menthol stays for a short while as a sensation on your skin and in your senses making room for a sort of patchouli/lemon/star anise concoction, I also get a slight tang of lily in there... It gives a bit of a graveyardy/slab of granite with a bouquet of flowers on top, a bit noir! But it’s a cooling sensation which I suppose is of great value if the weather is hot, as it mostly is I’d say where this perfume is made. Shortly after this unusual but addictive and suggestive little dance of notes, the honey comes out, sweet, wonderful honey, there are pieces of honeycomb floating about indeed, the lily takes a back seat but stays and makes room for some other floral exotic notes which I wouldn’t be able to identify since I’m not familiar with them. But the scent is very yellow, warm, sandy, sunny and sweet but not cloyingly so. I also get a bit of tangs of coffee, and as star anise is close in scent to licorice, as this scent goes into it’s middle notes it turns from noir/goth/sexy vampire catacombs, to sunny, open gourmand desert. There is vanilla, cinnamon, dates, I can see belly dancers and I can smell the sweet tea in little cups and the baklava being shared among friends. The dry down goes mellow but stays yellow, sweet, warm and sunny. The honey is blended slightly with sweet candied lemon, cinnamon, cloves and pistachios... musk.... To be honest I think this is THE most interesting and complex fragrance I have ever smelled in my life. Just the change in the notes, the different images it gives me... Get yourself a test or a decant pronto. Please do not miss out. This will literally take your breath away. As a side note, I wonder how this compares to Back to Black by Killian as that is also a honey-based fragrance? I might update once that smell test has been done. Sillage is not huge, projection is not massive, this is a very close to heart scent but you won’t be able to stop sniffing yourself, that is an absolute guarantee. PS, I don't look at the notes when I write a fragrance review but now that I did, I can definitely smell a bit of blueberry and it's very, very lifelike!

the first time i went to Arabian Oud shop in Makkah i got Kalemat and Kalemat Black for test, and more of their other collection. i sprayed it at the back of my left hand and the Kalemat Black at the right, and another EDP and attars in another spot. the monsterous but beautiful projection of Black Kalemat taken over another perfume i have applied and moreover i could hardly smell any other perfume that night. so i instantly purchased a bottle of that gem. several weeks later i went to Arabian Oud again to compare Kalemat and Kalemat Black side by side and wasn't trying another of their collection. and again, i was only smell Kalemat Black in my left hand and could only smell Kalemat faintly. and several days later before I was leaving Saudi, i went to Arabian Oud shop again to try Kalemat only. i was surprised that night when finally i clearly could smell Kalemat projects beautifully. it reminds me of opening brand new sealed book combined with velvety honey+amber and that's the first time i got real olfactorgasm to that opulent, expensive, smooth luxurious fragrance. i didn't know how Cashmere wood smells like, but i thought the smooth new book notes of it was how Cashmere wood smell. the next day when i was arrived to Indonesia, after good hot shower i sprayed 4 times in my neck and chest at 09.00AM and was going to work. i could clearly smell that luxurious scent all day long with moderate projection and didn't even get cloying although it was sweet and the weather was hot and humid. and i didn't get showered until next morning i woke up and still can clearly smell it with me. and i hang my shirt for several days before i throw my dirty clothes to my machine wash i was surprised i could smell it on my shirt i was wearing that day and couldnt resist to smell the good aroma of velvety honeyed new book before i finally started laundrying. for SAR 150 or USD 40 or feels like USD 60 after Rupiah inflation (SAR 300 before discount) it's literally my best bang to the bucks of all my collection as a beginner. i love kalemat black too but i thought i'm more addicted to Kalemat. scent: 20/10 Sillage:8/10 Projection: 9/10 Longevity:10/10 price: 100/10 packaging:9/10 the book shaped box totally ensemblence with the juice blind buy worthy: yes! full bottle worthy: absolutely yes!

I read some of the reviews here and honestly I disagree with many of them. I have Raghba by Lattafa...this smells nothing like it. Raghba is sweet and semi-loud, it has personality. This scent lacks personality in every sense of the word. To give a visual of what AOK smells like: Top Notes - wet paper (not wet cardboard) due to the anise. There is a hint of blueberry here but it's almost non-existent. Try AOK Black for a stronger blueberry profile (though not listed in the note breakdown). Mid Notes - an old mint that has dried out and lost all of its flavor except for a slight mint tinge, result of the rosemary and floral notes. Both are extremely soft. (Note: The transition from the mid to base is most likely where the Raghba comparisons are coming from). Base Notes - old flavorless dried syrup, resulting from the combination of amber and honey, the latter is hardly noticeable and both are smothered by musk similar to onions minus the onion. I don't know if this makes sense but its just a visual. Dominant Notes: Musk, Amber, Oud. Profile: starts off medicinal, almost odorless and watery (non-aquatic). Hence the "wet paper" visual. Slowly warms up into something slightly spicy and sweet like cinnamon and honey mixed with mint. Dries down into a typical musk. The fragrance stays close to the skin throughout its duration and is very soft overall. Definitely a "genderless" office scent (not unisex but literally genderless). Read my Raghba review...this smells nothing like it. Overall AOK is great scent but I can only visualize it as a year round day scent for the office and nothing more. It doesn't scream casual to me. Additionally, this fragrance is an office scent that lacks personality, hence the "genderless" notion. It is a great scent though in my opinion but its too bland to be a signature. My rating for this scent would easily be an 8/10 because it is a good scent, sticks close to the skin and professional. I really like this one. (UPDATE) This one really needs time to warm up and settle into your skin. Damn this is good! Vanilla, amber, floral, oud....still starts off the same way as above but this really is good!

Heard a lot about this fragrance being a projection beast, it's not entirely true. Got it for that reason and whilst this fragrance lasts for well over 7 hours on skin and over a day on clothes, the projection is moderate at best, people will smell the fragrance as you walk by and when you're around them, but the scent in the air is quite soft and billowing like a haze of a scent, you will get compliments when you sit by someone or hug them, but most times they won't even know where that soft sweet amber scent is coming from and most times the ladies or guys sniff their own wrists or their shirts or tops thinking it's their own scent, which is fine by me if they are led to believe so. As for how the fragrance smells, well it's a simple mix of Honey musk and Amber to me with a hint of floral notes. It's a gorgeous creamy dreamy mix which I love, it's like a fresh version of Red Tobacco to me with no tobacco and spices thrown in. A safe scent that I will continue to buy as it's long lasting enough and can be signature worthy, with a moderate projection that smells like a soft haze in the air, it gets people sniffing the air trying to figure out where that delicious scent is coming from yet if you walking by people most times won't really know it's your scent, and it always gives me a giggle when they smell the person next to them and say "no it's not your scent, it's someone else" and who am i to burst anyone's bubble, so I say nothing and just let them enjoy the scent and keep wondering about that mysterious scent in the air that smells like someone yet find it on no one at the same time. All in all an 8/10 in my book.

Kalemat opens with a strong berry, fresh and bright paired with creamy, sweet amber. The fruit note dissipates quickly (regrettably because it's very yummy and almost juicy). The creamy, sweet honey amber takes center stage, but there's ever so slightly, just barely noticeable an almost medicinal herbal note underneath, maybe the rosemary? I don't like this particular note and it also doesn't stick around long, so that's great. Kalemat is then a sweet but never cloying, creamy, vanilla-ish, a little musk-powdery, a little spiced, delicious, delicious pillowy amber. Later in the drydown, a gentle wood note becomes evident and mixes with the amber. I tried MFK Grand Soir and liked the drydown but in order to reach it, had to endure a sharpness that bothered me and scratched my throat. Kalemat has no sharpness, screechy synthetic, and/or cloying sugar. It's beautiful and golden and I feel sexy and golden in it. I want to roll in this scent like a cat. It reminds me to a certain extent of Hermès Ambre Narguilé (a scent I adore) but without the cinnamon. If you like that, you will enjoy Kalemat. For me, this is an instant love. It is everything I want in an amber perfume, pillowy and creamy, great quality and priced super reasonably. I blind bought Kalemat because I was on the hunt for an amber scent and I came across a review from a wonderful blogger called Kafkaesque. I highly recommend you check out their in-depth review of Kalemat (and their blog, just do a Google search). I'm so grateful for that review because it led me to this beauty.

After now trying Kalemat (by Arabian Oud) a couple of times, I can confirm, in large part, the consensus that it's very similar to 24 Gold by Scentstory and Raghba by Lattafa Perfumes. Mainly a mix of honey, amber, vanilla, and woods, Kalemat is not quite a gourmand but nonetheless quite sweet and resinous, and only traces of bitterness exist to counteract the creamy blend of most of the other elements. I really don't get the blueberry, anise, or rosemary. Comparing to the other two fragrances, Kalemat is less tip-of-the-tongue sweet than 24 Gold (definitely) and even Raghba (slightly), so it's deeper and reveals more in the dry down as far as an amber/wood blend than its two counterparts. Performance-wise, Kalemat is superior to both 24 Gold and Raghba, with 24 Gold being better than Raghba. Kalemat's superior is more in the longevity than projection, I'd say. Price-wise, Kalemat is $120 for 100ml in the Arabian Oud store in Times Square (NYC), while it's slightly less expensive on eBay, at $85. For the same volume, 25 Gold is about $55 and Raghba is under $30. And while very similar to one another, my preference probably falls in line with the pricing: Kalemat, 24 Gold, then Raghba. This might lead some to believe that Raghba isn't worthwhile, but it all depends on price. It's a slight challenge to justify spending several times Raghba's cost on Kalemat, but such is the task of any fragrance fan justifying any cost. For now, it'll be food for thought for me. 8 out of 10

PoBJ's review is far more detailed and comprehensive than I could hope to be. I've played around with Arabic essential oils a bit, with my best experiment involving a little "wood oil" on top of Yatagan--couldn't get more macho if I tried. With Kalemat AO (sampled from a reputable source), I get a profound honey with all of the other notes making themselves known; it is like they remain in their own columns or spheres, to be picked out on demand, yet create an overwhelming composition. This one really is like music, with every instrument playing harmony to the others. So, it's good. But it IS overwhelming. I've worn it several times in hot weather or even in AC-cooled indoors, and it is a sillage and longevity monster. You're going to get noticed. And I almost think it would be even more noticeable in colder weather, like the notes would ring clearer in the colder, drier air. Short story is that I like it and can see wearing it on isolated occasions: a Pakestani wedding, a Citizens United for Israel bakesale, or a half-marathon. The thing is, such events can't include my wife because she doesn't like it much. Doesn't hate it, but definitely gives it thumbs down. The only thing I've worn that KAO resembles is Amouage Tribute oil; she liked that because of the Marlboro ashtray accord. I think the amber and blueberry in KAO sweeten it up too much for her. I think that my fondness for Kalemat is initially triggered by its presentation. Just by looking at the wooden box and holding the heavy ambery-coloured bottle, I convince myself that a seducing oriental olfactory experience is only a couple of spritzes away. It's not so bad to be prejudiced (in a positive way) some times. Some anisic fruity notes, backed by light florals, can be perceived in Kalemat's opening but this concoction is basically honey-amber galore. I know this may sound oversimplified but it is not. In my opinion, the most masterful achievement in this fragrance is the perfumer's talent in "putting a leash" on the sweetness. It is perfectly calibrated, never to become excesssively syrupy or cloying. The beautifully reconstructed ambery note, deliciously sweetened by honey, is constantly being counterbalanced throughout its development by notes of incense, spices, tobacco, cinnamon, musk & light woods. The overall impression is that of an enveloping, warm & sensual oriental enjoyment that is soothing to the senses and comforting to the heart. Kalemat brings in mind other beloved honeyed gourmands I have in my collection like Chergui, Ambre Narguile & Oajan. Nevertheless, it possesses a distinct personality of its own which may not project as one would expect yet it displays a constant presence which, at close quarters, is sensually irresistible. Intoxicating. 8.5/10

The first time i smelled this wonder I was totally stunned by the sophistication and beauty of this incredible fragrance. I have a great deal of difficulty discerning the individual notes as the effect to my mind is like a symphony which brings out the finest of each component, rather than a progressive sequence where one note makes its presence known, followed by another. This is one of the most hypnotically beautiful fragrances I have ever had the joy of wearing, and to my mind it is complex, mysterious and delicious, with a suggestion of exquisite ambery woodiness, a delicate hint of honey, with a very subtle floral note as well. Sillage is excellent, and longevity is moderate, so I carry a 20ml spray with me to freshen up after a few hours, when it becomes more of a skin scent. I wish I could articulate a clearer description of the individual notes, but I find I cannot - the overall effect is mystifying and beautiful, and it is like nothing I have ever smelled before. I cannot imagine anyone that this heavenly creation could fail to charm, and I would even recommend a blind buy. Many Arabian-style perfumes tend to be an acquired taste, but this is a masterpiece that will appeal to anyone who appreciates beauty. Kalemat is unlike anything else, and is such a magical composition of sophistication and beauty that it works for men and women alike. Try it!

After I buy it and use it my review is :- i heard a lot about this fragrance from reviews in internet and from people who wearing it, or they smell it, or they buy it ,and they said it's a great fragrance, well they are right it's a great and beautiful fragrance ,he deserve what they said about it. i go to the fragrance shop and i tell him i want try this fragrance then after he spray it on my chest, i go to do some of works and the smell was with me as a best friend and supporter, in that night and in that moment i decided to buy it . unisex so quiet and so strong in same time , the best in this fragrance after you wear it time by time the smell change to the best to the new smell and quiet and to the warm and soft also . This is the first perfume since Angel by Mugler was released that made me feel obsessed with a scent. I got my first bottle in 2015, gifted to me by a neighbour and I couldn’t stop sniffing myself. I had never smelt anything quite like it - sweet, sophisticated, alluring, powerful, bold, indulgent, confident and rich. It was truly love at first sniff. I begged my husband to buy me another bottle from Dubai Airport in 2018 and i only bring it out on special occasions because I don’t want it to become “common” and “familiar”. I have the oil version too and I always feel like a Queen whenever I wear it. I live in Nigeria where the weather is hot 90% of the time and I get compliments whenever I wear this perfume. If you are a hugger like me, don’t be surprised when people are reluctant to let go of you when you wear this perfume on your neck and behind your ears. Now that there is a plethora of Arabian scents in the market from Lattafa and Fragrance World, I will save my Kalemat for special occasions because of the price point. The packaging is in a class of its own, so if you buy this as a gift for someone, they will think expensive when they receive it. Love, love, love this perfume and I will never get tired of it. I hope they don’t reformulate it and ruin this beautiful scent. 5 ✅✅✅✅✅ from me.

Kalemat has a real wow factor that floored me the first time I smelled it. Pleased to find it on Fragrantica - pretty sure it wasn’t when I first got it. It’s a bewitchingly beautiful fragrance that smells somehow familiar but rare and exotic at the same time, with a captivating amber vibe that keeps me sniffing my wrist every few minutes. It is one of those fragrances whose beauty transcends traditional notions of masculine or feminine that can be worn by men or women, and it really does elicit both compliments and curiosity every time I wear it. Arabian Oud is synonymous with superlative quality at the upper end of the spectrum of middle eastern perfumery (of which Al Haramain is at the bottom end) and their Kalemat is a magnificent fragrance that enhances its wearer in any situation. I’d never really given much thought to the notes and am fascinated to see blueberry among them - I would never have guessed. My first introduction was via a sample spray that came with some other purchases and it made such an impression on me that I bought a bottle straight away. I love Kalemat and wearing it brings me pleasure - so much that I’m almost at the end of my second bottle. If you’re familiar with traditional Middle Eastern perfumery it’s a very safe blind buy, but if not try a sample first.

Oh boy. I blind bought this since I couldn't find a sample anywhere. Paid $100 shipped for 100ml. My first spray of this was actually 3 sprays. That's like 2.5 too many. 1) the atomizer is ridiculous. 2) this is POTENT juice. Amber and blueberry are the ultra dominant notes up top. Vanilla, although not in the notes here, plays a supporting role at first and takes over during the dry down. Minor amount of oud is perceptible, too. This is complex, dense, heavy. Not sure when I'd wear this, to be honest. Maybe like a date night? Seems to fit in around a fireplace. Might be better on an older woman than on a man but I feel fine wearing it. I love spraying my pillows/sheets with it. A perfume lovers perfume. Not many (or any) compliments when I've worn it. A few "what are you wearing? that's strong" comments...off of 1-2 sprays. Longevity on my skin isn't insane like a lot of comments have said. Maybe 6-8 hours, but it's strong during that run and then just falls off a cliff. Projection is good for 2-3 hours. To me an 8.0/10. If you're reading Fragrantica reviews you should seek out a sniff, if possible. 24 Gold by ScentStory is pretty close to this (not as deep or rich or natural) so you can get a solid sense of Kalemat Red there.

If you're familiar with Fragrances from this part of the world, you would know the note listing pretty much gives you an idea of what you're getting in to hence making blind buying feasible. For instance, the combo of Amber/wood/musk and/or Vanilla/wood/musk tend to have that familiar SCENTSTORY24 vibe. I found Kalemat to be a little unsurprising and familiar at the same time. This is probably one of the best predictable scents blind money can buy. This opens with a soothing velvety wood which can easily be mistaken for vanilla and if you concentrate on the scent long enough, you can detect jammy blueberries intertwined in its musky essence. There's Honey, Honey and more Honey! A matter of fact, one spritz is equivalent to a 5 pound bee hive so monitor your usage. Over time, the immersed amber becomes more luscious making it easier for your nose to get lost in your skin. 18hrs later, the true transformation takes place and the musk is at full tilt thus dispelling all the early comparisons to SCENTSTORY24. At no point does Kalemat ever becomes a skin scent(well maybe if you wore if for 2 days straight but that means 48hrs with no shower). For a side note: This is the big brother to TELAAL NABEEL. Prepare your credit cards now!

Please don't compare Kalemat with Raghba, as this one is incomparable and has earned its originality. This is probably the second fragrance that makes me want to marry myself whenever I wear it. It doesn't have monstrous sillage and projection, thankfully so; however, it envelopes you, moves with you, and blends in one with your skin/clothes, and in this nature, I find it to be very charming. I'm a big fan of honey note (in Kalemat is done perfectly) and dislike anything with prominent vanilla, so this is just perfect for me. A little more oriental than Kalemat Black, which is vanilla-ey sweeter, more gourmand, and smokier. It also has a seamless blend of spices, woody notes, and honey, all upon an ambery bed. The scent has got that translucent quality and glossy texture; the picture that comes to mind when I smell this is amber gemstone. This one is too ambery to be categorised as gourmand, and I think would be gorgeous layering atop some oud oil (I love ASQ Heritage Blend). If you love Kalemat, you might as well see yourself liking Arabian Knight (gold). I instantly found it magical the very first time I gave it a full wearing. Now can I see why this could be one of the brand's signatures.

I posted a review of this eariler. Now that I wore this over 2 months. Here is my thorough review. This is absolutely such an amazing fragrance. I can't get enough of this fragrance. It's one of those perfumes that you just can't find the flaw in it. It's literally honey dipped in amber. It's just so good Okay now the performance. This stuff just projects and projects. I have the Jan 2021 batch, and the scent trail will literally headbutt anyone walking behind you. You will get so many heads turns and it pierces through the thickest masks. This stuff LASTS. I'm wearing it currently, sprayed this 8:20 am (around 4-6 sprays), projected more than 8 hours. Took a shower at 12 am, scrubbed my skin hard with soap, it's almost 1 am and I can still smell it. I even forget what is that sweet smelling aroma I'm getting a whiff of throughout the day, and I realize it's my Kalemat because I sometimes can't grasp the fact that it's still projecting. It's so potent, this stuff can last on my skin for more than 24 hours surviving several washes on the applied area. I'll definitely be buying another bottle of this

Interesting - opens up boozy and slightly jammy, with the blueberry skin note being quite recognizable and unique - then becomes smokier and almost oud-y with a touch of honeyed flowers and something weirdly... paper-like? Or even like acrylic paint. I have no idea what note that is, maybe it's the combination of cashmere and rosemary. I'm not even sure if the oud I'm smelling is really oud, since it's not even in the notes. When it settles completely, it's all smokey wild honey and amber with a bit of cashmere softness and some berry jam as well. It's definitely not as sweet as you might think, though, and has a unisex vibe to it for sure. It's interesting that no one so far has noticed a similarity with Montale Honey Oud, which is also all about non-gourmand honey with an oriental feel to the fragrance. Kalemat is not super strong, but recognizable - still not something you'd want to overspray. Can get a little cloying. Definitely more fitting for colder seasons and humid weather. Since I liked the aforementioned Montale fragrance a lot, this one goes into my likes as well.

Ordered thanks to the glowing reviews and expected a powerhouse, complex and deep. Parcel arrived, big and heavy, opened an discovered a heavy bottle packed in two boxes (one inside the other). Beautiful and stylish and the scent is really, really nice (not deep though, more bright and almost cheerful) but hey, where is the projection, sillage and longevity everybody is talking about?! No projection whatsoever and after three-four hours it's a skin scent. To sad, it's such a lovely fragrance. About the scent then ... It totally reminds me of Telaal (Nabeel) and "Perfect bouquet " (Xerjoff), the first longer-lasting and much cheaper, the latter is well .. maybe more sophisticated (but way too pricey for what you get). Above all, it's really similar to my recent love Aoud Meloki from Montale (i.e. the "middle eastern" Montale, not Montale Paris). The notes all three of them share are woods, caramel, amber and vanilla (less vanilla in Kalemat, more in Meloki and Telaal). All three beautiful, most bang for buck is definitely Montale's Meloki.

@zakkarah Thank you for your kind comments. Most appreciated. I have given the Arabian Oud shop in Deira City Centre (Dubai) a call on your behalf. I am in no way associated with them but the SA told me that they will have a sale on their perfumes until 10 May with a 50% discount up to that time. Yes, I have tried their other Kalemat fragrances (and others in store as well) and found them to be very good. The oud note in Kalemat Black is a little debateable so that is worth sampling before purchase. It also happens to be out of stock now, but the SA told me it will be back in the "next couple of weeks".... Might be an idea to check out their other offerings as well. I also find Al Haramain and Rasasi to be local brands worth checking out. Also, if you or a friend are coming here, don't forget a visit to the Al Rehab shop near the Gold Souk. I'll be doing reviews on some of their offerings soon too. Hope that helps.

Honeyed rose and musk are what I'm getting right away with some oud. There is a slight gourmand-ish quality to it that I'm not crazy about. I will have to spend more time with this one. Update: Yesterday I tested several frags on my skin, and I concluded that the gourmand quality I was getting was not actually from Kalemat. I tested this solo again and wow. This is amazing. I'm new to Arabian/Middle Eastern frags in general. The only frag that I've smelled similarly to this one is Guerlain Santal Royal. This one is better in my opinion. Santal Royal evokes a childhood memory of potpourri for me, perhaps that's why I loved it so much. However, it's a bit cloying in its sweetness. Kalemat is gentle, seductive, and refined. It is exquisitely blended. It is a soft kiss and I'm finding it seems to sit closer to the skin. This is a perfect date night fragrance.

Amber and honey mixed with woodsy notes (mostly Cashmere wood), that grants a sensual aroma! I'm usually not fond of ambery notes, but the ambery note here is enriched with the sweetness of honey; I can't feel the musk nor the blueberries, but as the perfume dries down I get that boozy feeling which I get usually from vanillic notes, the dry down reminds me of Noir pour femme from Tom Ford, and addict from Dior, and many vanilla-based fragrances in my collection, and I guess that this is the reason why I felt in love with this fragrance (kalemat). sillage: MONSTER POWER!!! longevity is very good as well! for the gender: I guess it is well made for both genders, but I guess many men would find it a bit sweet for their tastes, then I suggest them Kalemat black, which is also a great perfume that leans more to the masculine side!

I blind bought both Kalemat and Kelmat black 3 years ago because of a great discount on Arabian Oud’s website. I preferred the original version so I sold the black one and kept the first. I felt in love with it. It is so warm, it feels like a sunbeam in winter. Definitely recommend it for fall and winter, otherwise it’s too much. The performance is just ridiculous: with only 2 sprays a day I could literally always smell it and it stays on clothes forever. I just finished the 100 ml bottle a few weeks ago, after 3 years as my daily (except in summer). My favourite fragrance, makes you feel warm, confident, almost a Persian prince. To discover new fragrances, I decided not to buy it again after 3 beautiful years, but that was a tough one. I’m sorry my dear Kalemat, but I promise I’ll never forget you.

I have to come back here and say how in love with this fragrance I am. It is so well done and just so intoxicatingly good. I love it so much that I have my 3rd backup bottle on the way. I’m scared that Jomashop will sell out of these and they are going for around $90 on their site which is a very nice discount from the $150 retail price. If you are reading these reviews and have not tried this yet I can’t recommend enough to get a sample or even a bottle for yourself. You will not be disappointed! I have some very good and very expensive fragrances in my collection but this one is really just something else. It’s so special. Every time I smell it it brings a huge smile to my face. Simply a 10/10 in every way possible.

There is a table in the middle of the room I am in. There's a vase full of flowers on the table, and steaming desserts have just begun to be served. I fell asleep waiting for this and my dream smells just like Kalemat. Wait a minute: Actually, there is no table, no dessert, no flowers. I sprayed a few sprays of Kalemat and fell asleep. And in my dreams I see the things I just said. I can briefly say this for Kalemat: soft, sweet, calm and relaxing. This is the scent of peace. Everything is very well blended and very harmonious. Silage fills the room. Persistence exceeds 7-8 hours. For 100 bucks it's worth it

This fragrance is one of the most complemented luckily I live in middle east and its pretty affordable here I saw some people post this one cost around 180 dollars while I bought one forabout70 dollars it's a perfect fragrance The longivty is great last more than 10 hours Projection about 2 to 3 hours the silage is sold on me great for winter time unusual for cool weather I got a great cheap alternative its by lattafa its called raghba its about 90%simller I would recommended it to if you can't afford it I would give this a 9/10 just because it's not so versatile other than that it's great with niche quality

Kalemat is a very potent juice, and is very affordable too. Like other reviewers say, it is an amber based perfume that stays days, and with this your presence is always known... However if one doesn't get used to oriental/arabian scent, maybe it's best to get its brother, Kalemat Black (Sehr al Kalemat), because vanilla addition makes the scent sweeter. However in my opinion, original Kalemat has more character, and more complex than Kalemat Black. It's all a matter of preference, but I vote for Kalemat over Kalemat Black (not to mention that Kalemat black nuclear potency had been subdued or so i heard)

This is what heaven probably smells like. I have the set that came with bakhoor (incense). When I really want to smell divine I burn some bakhoor and let the smoke saturate my clothes, I then spray some Kalemat on. The resulting smell is truly unearthly. Kalemat to my nose smells of simply the most luxurious warm amber and honey. Performance is astronomical. Often times I am still able to smell it on my clothes when I do the laundry days later. This is My first fragrance from house of arabian oud And i am very happy to use this gem. Similar to raghba by lattafa but this is higher quality and great performance sillage is very good. i got what i was expecting. Very smokey sweet ambery smell like burnt oud in shopping malls in dubai. good for first 10+ hrs i can smell this even i spray this on my wrist and smell it in my nose very easily thats pretty good sillage.over all stays on skin 15+ hrs and on clothes whole day. Bought this gem from sharjah mega mall at 160AED. Thank you arabian oud.

This smells beautiful in the air, I have no words to describe that. No Oud. it is one soft-spicy, sweet oriental amber scent with incense and a bit of blueberry, which is clearly noticeable. but it's not a fruity scent. and there is a hint of rosemary. that beautifulness can't be ignored by the people around you. you might get a compliment from time to time. it is really unisex and it feels great wearing this as a guy. to anyone who likes sweet soft spicy amber - incense scents, go for it! longevity and projection, is above the average. .

#612 in my "Tour de Fragrance" What a completely delightful scent! I see the reminds me of selections have Raghba and 24 Gold. I have both. All three have amber. The similarity ends there. In the opening I get very distinct blueberries, honey and anise, a combo I have never encountered before and I love it! The cashmere makes it nice and smooth. Musk is also subtle. This is attractive, not aggressive as some Mideastern scents can be, nothing not to like. Dead center unisex. I love it and it's priced right. I'm ordering a bottle.

Malcolm Mclaren`s Madame Butterfly. Soft, enjoyable and very, very comforting & easy to wear. Divine amber-oriental who whispers vanilla, rose and tobacco, one of best amber I've ever tried. Not heavy narcotic, but still very addictive, relaxing and hypnotic golden honey. I cannot stop sniffing my wrist every time I put it on myself. I have it almost a year and I really worship this one! If you like Chergui, TF Tobacco Vanille or Amouage Interlude you must try it.This stuff makes harsh winter great! 5/5

I got this a their store in Amsterdam, I sprayed once on me and the next morning I was still smelling beautifully. Beautiful vanilla but not overwhelming. And the packaging it’s just amazing! Perfume comes in two boxes and the inside box is a ‘book’ with the perfume inside. A beautiful sent in disguise. I love this brand so much, this is my third bottle from this brand. Jan 14 I have this on for 11 hours and I can still smell it on me. Lots of compliments at work. This is a beast and I’m loving it.

I loveee loveee this fragrence soo much. This is forever my signature scent. Stays on my skin ALL day and has an enormous sillage throughout the day. I'm able to smell throughout the day it is veryyyy strong and very noticeable. This can EASILY fill any room with a sweet ambery aroma. I don't recommend this in a work environment but instead just casually wearing it daily. Update: wore this in a MTA subway train and everyone around me stared at me. Definitely a divine headturner.

Absolutely gorgeous! Soft woods, vanilla, and the best honey!Not too sweet, but with great performance, and soft sillage. No harsh rose notes in sight, which can be a real problem with many of the Arabian frags. I have Raghba as well, and that one is more sweet, but also lovely.This is well priced, lasts forever and is a keeper. I'm almost finished my first 100 ml bottle, and will be buying another. Vanilla, amber spices, maaaaybe a lil blueberry.... All that is wonderful in this fragrance, the only issue I have with Kalemat is that it isn't a "sillage monster", it isn't "beast mode" it doesn't last more than 5 hours on my skin... Maybe I got a bad batch or Idk, since everyone is saying this is way strong and way potent.... Kalemat black is so much better in almost every aspect. Anyone willing to trade lemme know

Kalemat has become my everyday go to fragrance. I get compliments all the time when I wear this. Unisex, I think a little on the masculine side, but one of my female coworkers loves it so much she ordered a bottle. Some Arabian style fragrances can be a little weird to western noses, but not this one. Kalemat could easily compete with many western niche scents that are much more expensive.

If you want to blind buy from Arabian Oud then this is the one to. The amber note is dominant and the projection of this one is a beast. It is if I recall right the first Jordi Fernandez fragrance for Arabian Oud and has been in the market for years. The came out with a new Kalemat that has stronger vanilla note but I still prefer this one. For the price you pay it is a must have..

Unbelievably amazing and intoxicating fragrance. Once I received my bottle in the mail I immediately bought a backup bottle of this because it’s so good. Signature scent worthy and very very crowd pleasing. Fruity, creamy, musky honey amber that is blended to absolute perfection. I really need to get my nose on more from this house because I’m obsessed. An easy 10/10 for me.

This is one of those fragrances that appears pheromonal. Very sensual aroma. Hard to describe but it's very additive. Very unusual fragrance - both sweet and animalic (indolic). It's intoxicating. Strong projection and longevity but I reapply throughout the day. I don't wear this around people very often. May not be for an office environment.

This gorgeous smelling fragrance is delight to my nostrils, it is very smooth & sweet. Definitely think that both sexes could pull this one off & that it is most suitable for the fall or winter. Worn it for about 15 hours now, on my wrist & it is still is quite strong, but not overwhelmingyly so I'd give this fragrance a 9/10

I am using the perfume oil version of this fragrance from Arabian Oud and I can well believe it was a creation of Jordi Fernandez. It really is wonderfully cosy with syrupy honey, without being too sweet, without being gourmand either. Signature Middle Eastern DNA yet wearable in almost all contexts except for summer heat.

I was told I smell like a gingerbread house. In a very positive fashion. Very warm and inviting scent with great longevity. I will say, the projection is strong for a few hours but it dims down after some time and lingers close. It lasts, the scent is strong for a while but isn’t nuclear, which a lot of people appreciate.

This is a masterpiece! Warm, relaxing,sensual, misterious. I can't stop sniffing this scent. i LOVE LOVE lOVE lOVE this one! It's one of the few fragrances that i really love. What a beautiful amber oriental gourmand scent! A compliment getter and a good performer in terms of longevity and sillage. Kalemat is great to wear in autumn and winter during the day and Kalemat black will take over for the evenings. Bang for the buck for both fragrances.
