my dad scent exploration has lead me to finally try this scent. and tbh this is great. i had imagined it completely different from reading the reviews. it's a warm yet airy, aldehydes, myhrr, slightly animalic, patchouli, leather oakmoss scent. the opening lasts quite a while and transitions from a spritz of airy aldehydes and fresh tart bergemot that carry the resinous sweet myrrh and bitter wormwood followed by a heavy dose of clover and thyme. its a bit in your face but it all retains a composed earthy floral airy freshness combined with classic myhrr. 2 transitional green/balsamic opening. when the mid finally comes it's heavy on the patchouli. along with a textured sage and oris root. this is where i start to pick up a slight ''vintage dustiness'' from oris and sage. but its still retaining an airiness so it doesn't feel like its gonna choke you out. cardamon and jasmine i pick up on but more so when it start to settle and calm down further from the earthy notes. adds a subtle gentle attraction. a well thought out addition. now the airiness subsided a bit and the heavier recognizable leather and oak moss come thru making it more reminiscent of an actual barbershop scent. it took me a while to pick up on but this has a very lively animalic castorium. its still far from rugged. its clean vetiver, sandalwood on top of amber/musk. i saw the coconut in the notebreak down in the base and yeah it's really there but so far back. it gives off this soft hand soap effect. i expected this all to be lot denser but now i don't think i want it to be any stronger. it allows you to breathe and that's good cuz this is what makes it wearable for me. projection n performance are moderate this scent reminds me a lot of my uncle at that time prob in his early 30s, getting ready to go out leaving a heavy smell of cologne in the bathroom. warm, masculine, charming and ''honest''. but totally not the rugged hairy chest character some reviewers describe. i guess an everyday man, no bullshit and reliable. however still wearable if you're in your 20s if you dress nicely and can grow a decent beard/stubble lol verdict: wearing it for a while ngl its a master class vintage fougere. its a complex scent that deserves to be recognized again by younger generations. i can see this leave a positive impression if you can pull it off. cold weather only. not gonna lie.. the aldehydes in this scent really remind me of chanel. specifcally no 5 and it also has a base reminiscent of chanel antaeus. something magical is going on the longer i wear this fragrance. reception from people was very positive. indiana jones/10

Rumor has it that Aramis is about to be or has been discontinued, which would be a shame as it approaches the 60th anniversary of its release next year. What I find most amusing about Aramis is that it has become this metaphorical scepter of masculinity in fragrance. It actually marks a turning point where men's fragrances began to steer away from the proper, polite citrus-powder-sandalwood-musk that dominated the 40s through early 60s while ladies were presented with these sharper, cat-o-nine-tail green aromatic leather-florals. Bernard Chant, as if under the mentorship of Germaine Cellier (Bandit, Jolie Madame), molded this arid brutalist-chypre template into creations such as Gres Cabochard, Coty Imprevu—and Aramis, for Estée Lauder. So, Aramis was borne out of a style originally formulated with the ladies in mind and was heavily inspired by a lady perfumer. So it wasn't created in a testosterone-fueled vacuum in a macho lab, compounded with accords designed only for the truest archetypal man in mind. Which is why I'd like to proceed with some of my favorite quotes from the myriad reviews online extolling the manly virtues of Aramis: "This is Clint Eastwood : The Good, The Bad And The Ugly in a bottle." "THIS is how a men's fragrance should be produced." "If the sillage could speak it would be saying 'I'm a man and I am here.'" "Aramis is the definition of alpha-male classic fragrance for a well-dressed business executive with ambition." "A handlebar moustache is nearly a requirement to pull off this quintessentially masculine old school gem." This vintage Aramis I own does stun me with its penetrating beauty, though. It's so inky, mossy, herbal, and mugwort-bitter, and has this mood-elevating effect on me. There's something about the ferocious whip from the styrallyl acetate gardenia in these classics that has me straightening up and flying right. It also has the sensation of white sage that persists throughout its development. While its older sibling Cabochard is a bit more floral, bright, and sheer, its younger sibling, Azurée, well, next level. I wonder what the gents quoted above would say about it were they to blind test it not knowing it was marketed to women, because that one is even more potent and virile to my nose. We would find all that is green, herbal, aromatic and leathery to dominate the decade that would follow, many contributed by Chant himself, but Aramis is an iconic time marker in perfumery.

Aramis is the greatest men’s fragrance for the masculine male. If you are a liberal soyboy or a metrosexual male-feminist, this fragrance is not for you. If you are a mature, masculine, conservative, stoic man with strong character, good morals and principles, and has a respect and understanding of history... this is the scent for you. It is powerful, dark, rich, and smooth. It’s for the man who has aged like a fine wine, and one who has become wise during his years of overcoming life’s struggles on this planet. Aramis does not beg for attention or compliments. It does not attempt to “fit in” with the other mainstream fragrances. It could not care less about being mass-appealing. Aramis completely forges its own path, alone, with individuality and confidence. And that is part of its uniqueness and beauty. After having purchased and spent time with so many other “Masculine fragrances” in the end, it is Aramis that stands as king. It is legendary. It hits all the right notes and with the best blending. Aramis is the greatest and cannot be topped. My fiancé, who NEVER compliments any of my fragrances, snuggled next to me and wouldn’t stop sniffing my arm where I sprayed Aramis. She loves it and says it smells so good. I wear fragrances for myself because a great scent elevates my mood and state of mind. But, don’t be fooled by the people saying ladies don’t love Aramis. Any woman 25-30+ will understand and love this scent. The majority of younger individuals won’t like Aramis because they won’t understand it. It takes a mature nose to recognize the greatness here, but once you get it... you LOVE it. There is something very evocative about the scent. This is an “advanced” smell, and may be an acquired taste for some. The first time I smelled it, I was completely intimidated by it and simultaneously bewildered by it. I was too timid to put it on for a while because I didn’t feel worthy of it yet. There is simply nothing else like this on the market. And nothing this badass. The modern fragrance market is saturated with overly sweet, metrosexual, generic men’s fragrances. This is not for a teen or anyone in their 20’s. I would say it is for 35+ years of age. The greatest masculine fragrance of all time. It’s perfectly balanced, beautiful, strong, seductive, smooth, sophisticated yet not pretentious. It just smells SO GOOD. Buy it and let your journey with Aramis begin.

My son recently returned some things he'd been borrowing, one of which was a bottle of Hermès Bel Ami, a composition that has many features in common with Aramis... Indeed, it can read as 'Aramis with better materials', in somewhat the same way that Guerlain Heritage EDT may resemble a dryer, tighter Davidoff Zino. Anyway, I have a lot of respect for Bel Ami, but I have to admit that I prefer wearing Aramis. There is something so warm and agreeable about it, and, despite its low price tag, it remains a well-made fragrance. I've received compliments on this from people (something that I don't experience all that often), even from my wife, who objectively is not a fan of vintage woody-spicy compositions. This and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme are, despite being on the cheaper end of what I own, fragrances I will always not only have in my collection, but wear over and over again with attention and appreciation. A few quick points: 1. It's not discontinued. Just go to the site, and it's right there. You can buy this stuff anywhere. 2. There is no coconut in this fragrance. It should read as castoreum, which is clearly detectable (in synthetic form, anyway) in this composition. A weird Fragrantica error that shows up on several other pages on this site (see Santos de Cartier, among others.) Please fix this, Fragrantica. 3. This fragrance has a surprising amount of vetiver. I was so distracted by the leather accord, it didn't hit me that vetiver plays an important role in the dry, green aspects of this fragrance. Bryan Ross underscored this in his review, and, though I don't agree with his assertion that the fragrance is nothing but bone-dry woody leather (I think he misses the myrrh), I'd say he's absolutely right. Now that I've noticed it, I can't not see it. 4. This fragrance *will* bend your nose. If you are repulsed, give it a bit of time. Leather chypres for men aren't all that common any more, so your frame of reference may be at least part of the issue. Let it work on you. 5. This stuff really does deepen with age. Some fragrances seem to more than others, but every bottle of Amaris I've word from the past 20 years or so has smelled the same after a few months.

Many moons ago, when I was in my early 20s and it was the early 1980s, I managed a nightclub. A small, smoke filled sweatbox where underground Hollywood punk, country, rockabilly and reggae bands got their start. Some acheived real success, while others disappearred never to be heard of again. The scent that waifed through that place each night was a mixture of leather, b.o., beer, patchouli oil and clove cigarette smoke from the Rastas and various other kinds of smoke, if you catch my drift. Until one night. A tall, handsome, long haired, Robert Plantish 70s reject strolled in. And with him came an aroma of pure sex in the air. His body chemistry and Aramis Super Cologne (as I later found out) had the women flocking like vultures over a fresh carcass. He was a musician, an avid record collector and took pride in his unique appearance and grooming. He also ended up asking me for my number at last call. We dated for quite a while, but ended up realizing we made much better friends than lovers. He is still my friend some 25+ years. He's seen me through 3 engagements and attended my wedding to my now husband of nearly 20 years. This wonderful friend and I have a secret that not even my husband is privvy to...I insist that every man I have been in a serious relationship with, wear Aramis original cologne. Preferably,the Super Cologne if I am lucky enough to find it on eBay. I buy it, they wear it and they have never asked me how or why I LOVE this scent on my man so very much! I must say, though, that it has never smelled as arousing on any man as much as it does on my original Aramis man. Classic Aramis is "sex in a bottle". Every man should try it.

Boy, do I love this stuff. I’m wearing the vintage “cologne spray” version and I’m reminded how rare it is for something this bold to feel so composed. It comes out swinging: aldehydes sparkling like cut glass, artemisia and bergamot adding bite, and then a leathery-animalic warmth that unfolds with unapologetic confidence. It doesn’t creep in or flirt. It shows up, shoulders square, shirt half-unbuttoned, and dares you to deal with it. What I love about Aramis is how it manages to be animalic and polished at the same time. There’s a slightly sweaty, lived-in skin note—probably castoreum—that gives the scent its sensual edge, but it’s buffered by clove, sage, patchouli, and this barbershop-floral haze that keeps it refined. It’s not as raunchy as Kouros or as plush as Bel Ami; it’s sharper, tighter, more angular—but still unmistakably human. I wore the current version of Bel Ami just last night, and while it’s rounder and smoother, with a more balsamic touch, I love how the two seem like cousins with very different temperaments. The leather doesn’t overwhelm here, it hums steadily through the whole thing like a well-worn belt or the inside of an old car. Even now, almost 60 years on, Aramis feels relevant—not in a trendy way, but in the way a good suit or a well-aged bottle of scotch never really goes out of style. You wear this when you don’t need to explain yourself. It lasts all day, shifts with your skin, and leaves a kind of respectful silence in its wake. Not for everyone, and honestly that’s the point. This one isn’t about mass appeal—it’s about presence. And Aramis has that in spades.

Well being relatively new to the perfumery rabbithole I thought I would grab this classic cheapy just out of interest before it was sadly discontinued, I had very low expectations but was really pleasantly surprised. That is a really great blend and a smell that reflects a composed and clean individual, it leans a bit on the heavier side I would say but not nearly as much as I thought from reading other reviews. I think this also benefits from a bit of maceration, one week in and the roughness goes away. The drydown is where this fragrance shines. I think this can be worn pretty much everywhere but certainly not a sport or heatwave cologne as there is a heavier base with a bit of leather as well, I would say 2-3 sprays in general should suffice. The most revealing thing about this fragrance to me was about how people's perceptions on fragrances work. How can a smell feel dated? Is it something similar to a clothing style? How can something smell good now and not after some decades? I bet it's the mere idea that this came out in the 60's, costs cheap and has this particular packaging. I bet that if this exact sent was executed using really high end ingredients and sold by a niche house for an exorbitant price it would be held in much higher regard. Also I have noticed that everything that doesn't smell blue or sweet is automatically labelled macho or grandpa, well that's too bad because these are the smells that I like on me, so all I am trying to say is to just trust one's nose and not the presentation, after all it's the scent you are wearing not the marketing campaign.

The most leathery leather fragrance I've ever smelt. This is also a vintage that I've heard from midlle aged men around me and it was a classic for a reason I guess, because this is absolutely beautiful. Personally, I really enjoy a very animalic fragrance from time to time and this feels highly animalic. The opening is like a burst of flame straight to your face. It is harsh, it is HOT, it is really really potent- although I'm pretty used to it from Kouros. I also get the sense that this also has Civetone in it? Then comes the festival of warm, masculine, captivating pleasure. Very strong amounts of leather kicks in and it's a very moist, fresh leather like just been skinned from an animal. Then the absolute CARNIVAL of amber and vetiver here with a deep deep hint of slightly nutty undertones. Also can't forget the classic Jasmine touch, which gives it a sort of cleanliness. Why do I feel like I'm cracking open chestnuts, throwing them unto the fireplace and laying down on my bear rug half-naked? (made from the bear I've hunted a while ago) I'm getting excited just talking about it for some reason. It's a very sexy, very manly, very commanding perfume. It has that dark brown aura: strong, down-to earth, classy -not overly chic- and authoritative. Get this in your collection. It deserves high praise.

+ Life would be so much simpler and the world would be a pretty great place if all trouble-making men were sprayed by law enforcement with Aramis to start each day! + It is fun how all of the ballyhoo about datedness of some frags has such weak stick with Aramis. One wear teaches lessons, applies needed spankings and gives invigorated sense of new possibilities. Definitively relevant today as much as manhood and nature ever will be. + I remember asking a man what he was wearing one day when I was high school age. I did not know him, just smelled something remarkable and asked what it was... - "Aramis." Reflecting on how a scent impressed is one of the best ongoing advertisements in existence. I noticed it was several cuts above other fragrances that had caused me to take note due to a kind of core integration of its power and pleasant intrigue. + That man on that day was no mere man. He was a phenomenon making positive impressions on an unruly next generation of humanity ingraining potentials for wisdom and self knowledge. + The blend is just that great. Most men would do better in life if their colognes, even large collections, were replaced with only Aramis to wear as circumstances deem appropriate. It is bold and challenging in ways; with that challenge embraced, then it is playful even frivolous.

Very different to what I expected. I was going into this expecting bitterness, spice, slight florals, and then a warm oakmoss/leather drydown Opens to a very clean, well-balanced mix of airy, sweet florals and bergamot. There's an almost honey-like undertone to the florals, a little bit spicy from the myrrh as well. Oldschool, classic, masculine, very pleasant Mid is also a very pleasant floral scent, with a hint of spiciness and some earthiness. I recently received a bottle of Mancera - Sicily - and that one is incredibly floral-foward as well, but it's incredible to see how much difference there can be in floral notes, because Sicily comes across as a mostly or strictly feminine fragrance, where aramis comes across as distinctly masculine, despite being very floral - this is really just a testament to how much difference comes from the composition. There's a noticeable shift during the mid where you can almost feel the floral curtain is pulled away and it begins to show a bit more of a leathery side to it. The dry-down is leathery, some slightly damp oakmoss, with a touch of woodiness. Still some remnants of florals in combination with the leather - very beautifully done. Was expecting this to be like leather and gasoline, but it turned out to be much more refined and gentleman-like than I thought

As a woman who appreciates the depth of traditional perfumery, Aramis is a masterclass in how aromatic and woody elements can be blended to create something that feels both rugged and incredibly sophisticated. What strikes me most is how beautifully apparent the nature notes are. This isn’t a modern, synthetic "blue" scent; it is a rich, living landscape in a bottle. The opening is a bracing, herbal wake-up call that quickly settles into a magnificent heart of warm spice. Aramis’ true beauty lies in the dry down. The leather is a soft, vintage saddle resting on a bed of mossy, earthy forest floor. While the animalic and amber notes provide a bold, magnetic heat, it is the powdery finish that makes it so wearable for me. It creates a refined, skin-like texture that feels like "quiet luxury." It’s unapologetic, grounded, and proves that true style has no gender. • Incredible longevity, high-quality "real" nature notes, excellent value, uniquely chic on a woman. • Reminds me of: Estée Lauder Azuree, Grès Cabochard, and the smell of a sun-warmed forest. • Sadly discontinued, so buy it while you still can!

In 1980 I overheard two girls in the corridor talking about Aramis. They both agreed, if a man wears this, it is just like, wow, swoon, you've got me!! I secretly went straight to the nearest department store and bought a bottle. I loved it. It worked. I'm still married to one of those two girls. It became my signature scent for the next 30+ years. It was much stronger then. The kind of thing where you walk into a club full of people and cigarette smoke, and everybody turns their head, knowing you're wearing Aramis. OK, I'm exaggerating a slight bit, but it was quite overpowering. And smelled better than now. I at first used simply the 24 hour anti-perspirant, which was just as beautiful and strong as everything else. Then, when that got reworked, I went on to the after-shave, and then to the cologne. It was only a shadow of itself, but still smelling great and still quite powerful. More than two sprays would be crazy. Lately I've moved on to the Concentrée version, which is hard to find, but a little closer to the original. And, well, admittedly this is dated. Nobody but my wife has given me compliments for wearing this for at least a decade or two. But I'd say it is still a very manly thing to wear.

Earlier today I recommended this for a member who expressed the desire to purchase something really special for her husband's upcoming birthday. I was truly shocked by the critical comments recommended AGAINST this gorgeous masculine elixir. Aramis "classic" will forever remain at the top of my list of most admired male fragrances. Woods, spices and well-worn leather radiate masculinity and vibrate with a powerful, quivering shot of testosterone. While I'll admit to sometimes giving myself a few spritzes when I'm home alone on a cold fall or winter day just to remember the warmth and affection my late father absolutely radiated when he wore this, it is unquestionably a Man's Man fragrance. I consider it both ageless and timeless. Does the image of Cary Grant, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Sean Connery, Sam Elliot or George Clooney say "rugged class and elegance" to you or do you think "Grandpa"? Your answer will determine whether or not you find Aramis gloriously attractive or hopelessly dated. To me it speaks of a freshly shaved and showered gentleman who broadcasts the essence of success and confidence with every word, step, gesture and glance. One of Bernard Chant's best.

A couple of weeks ago, I tried it on the skin and it definitely goes in the direction that drives me crazy. Extremely dark, almost intoxicating, animalic, smoky.... Much closer to a niche fragrance than the commercial perfumery it belongs to. That's the great advantage of "old" perfumes. But I also imagine that it has been extremely reformulated. So much so that I don't even notice half of the notes described in it. So reformulated that my skin, after 5 hours, has completely disappeared... I am convinced that the original must have been absolutely brutal! Even so, I found it in a perfumery at a ridiculous price and I bought it. When I use it, I mix it with Mitsouko (pure perfume) or with Fille en Aiguilles by Serge Lutens. And the result is simply superb. It breaks my heart to see how a fragrance that should have been so dark and powerful becomes so weakened that after only five hours it disappears, despite having sprayed it four times. I would recommend buying it at a huge discount. At the normal price, I find it way too expensive considering its longevity on skin... Such a shame...

Bottle dated October 2024. Opens similar to but louder than Avon's OLAND, if that frame of reference helps (sorry, I'm not good at notes but I know an apt comparison when I smell one). In fact, I believe this was Avon's intent when introducing Oland in 1970, but I digress. After a bit it dries to an arid, pungent, herbal leather that resembles elements of the deepest vintage MEM English Leather, Avon's misfire Excalibur, and an older, smokier bottle of Polo...yet this current juice doesn't last as long as any of those, making the purchase redundant. *sigh* But it's still quite good. BTW... Arriving in 1976, Avon's CLINT was undoubtedly a very late-to-the-game take on Aramis. Closer to Aramis than Oland was, it's lighter, greener, and perhaps more approachable in office settings. Also, Clint is more all-weather friendly than the iconic classic. Point is, if Aramis does become extinct and your supply dries up, a mix of Clint and Oland might provide an acceptable, inexpensive, and readily available substitute.

My dad was a Federal probation officer back in the 70's, 80's, 90's in Texas. He was an Old Spicer. My uncle was a Chief of Police in Paris Texas around that time. I know his parents (married my mom's sister) had wealth. These dude's were kind of the Suit Tie law and order tough cop type's, but with authority and money. Like, POWERFUL, is what comes to mind. Like they almost man stink, but in this buck stops here kind of way. This fragrance is what my uncle wore, so I surely get that memory/vibe Smell good??? Noooo.......not good in the modern sense, but in a more traditional powerful sense. This scent is a mark of territory that isn't offensive, but it might warn young potential usurpers away. It's what a military guy wears, chief of police.......it stands as a scent men use to mark territory. It's not the smell of urine, but serves the same purpose. When you smell it and you are not wearing it, you submit. It just says, don't test me..........and you don't. That's this scent. It's the scent of man power.

The reviews of Aramis are incredibly polarizing and I think I understand why. Plenty of people are saying it smells like a urinal or dirty armpit. It's the cumin. Cumin is one of those notes that can make people nauseous. More often than not it ends up making the fragrance smell like a dirty Middle Eastern armpit. Personally, I love Aramis. I think despite its age it is still quite unique. Most men nowadays aren't wearing these strong chypre fragrances. Chypres happen to be my favorite genre of fragrance so I will gladly continue to wear Aramis. To my nose the leather, cumin, and white flowers are the notes that stand out the most. I get a brief sparkling myrrh in the opening but it quickly transforms into cumin. Spicy, masculine, and slightly powdery. Just beautiful. Sadly this review is of the most current formulation. I can't imagine how strong the vintage formula must have been! As a side note this is a great value. I believe I bought my 3.7oz bottle at Marshalls for around $20 USD.

I am sad and equally happy about Aramis. I am sad that this have such a low rating and the fact that so many people don't appreciate it. At the same time I am very happy that I can enjoy and wear one of my favorites without the concern that every second dude and his cousin have it. I am not going to do a notes break down or such, many reviewers have done that already in the comments below. However I can share the main ingredients of this liquid gentleman. Pure class, Elegance, some Mystery, skillfully blended with Sophistication to produce this marvelous scent. For the those who are going to read these lines - You don't have to like it - that's for sure. But if there is even a drop of testosterone left in you - give it a try more than ones with an open mind and just for a moment forget about the top selling trendy sugary syrups of the day. Value for money is 10/10 sooooo inexpensive. There are no accidents- Aramis has been around for more than half century. Think about that!!!!!!

In collecting quite a few of the all-time men's classics, I had to give Aramis a shot, especially at the price it is at. Owing to its reputation I expected a moderately repulsive, over the top masculine scent. I got masculine, but not repulsive at all. It's quite an elegant scent. Off the top I get a citrus smoky leather. A raw leather. I'm not big on leather scents despite trying, but this I like. Totally can see this being the inspiration for Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather. Citrus leather instead of raspberry leather. As it further dries down it all blends into a more cohesive scent with the addition of spices and florals that is stunning and elegant. And manly. With all the sweet unisex fragrances that are popular now, I can see something like this making a comeback as young men embrace their not-so-toxic masculinity all over again. There is a reason this is a classic and has stood the test of time.

I have a stupidly hectic 72hr ahead of me and need some old school cool. Aramis for Men is a 1966 throwback, before we had to worry about digital calendars, social media, or Internet-enabled toasters refusing to work due to a software update. The kick in the open is pure James Dean class. Aldehydic bergamot, artemisia, and a bitter green note dominant floral open says yeah, this is a not going to be your trendy sweet vanilla teenage boy frag. In the heart it softens, taking on a spicy powdery slightly floral-sweet patchouli. The middle transitions relatively quickly though to the primary reason I love Aramis, which is a wonderfully rugged relaxed masculine base. It's huge with oakmoss and leather for me, musky, woody, retaining an almost incense smoke background from the artemisia and myrrh interaction. Aramis is calm, cool, and collected. Just don't wear it in a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder.

I grew up with Aramis, I was 5 years of age when it was created and I first smelled it on my Dad. I can not get that early memory out of my head. I do have the most recent Aramis and although it is much more light and feathery in weight and modern it isn't the fragrance of the real Aramis. It is but a shadow of what it once was. I did however look for a fragrance that was more vintage in smell and like the former original rendition. Great vintage style chypre fragrance! It really does remind me a lot of Cabochard's Grès, especially in the opening, but it's a bit smoother, spicier and a tad sweeter in the dry down than Grès is. Also Grès seems a bit like it would fit more formal occasions because it's not sweet at all, and the Leather and aldehydes stand out a bit more giving it a more "50's hollywood glamour vibe". Aramis also gets a fresher cleaner, slight soapiness and the Leather and Aldehydes are more subdued giving it a more casual vibe imo. The performance isn't all that great at the moment, but Im sure that'll improve with a bit of maturing (probably a month or two). Over all, I really enjoy it and Im glad that it dries down to be different that Grès. Great 7 outta 10 vintage fragrance! Recomended! Thanks to whomever took the time to read my thoughts on Aramis!😉

Aramis is not outdated in neither reformulation, i am on my last bottle which was purchased around 2010, it has all the classic nuances of older bottles i had. i also have several flankers all based on this unforgettable original fragrance mixture. the decision to discontinue original Aramis and the entire brand is a very poor and sad decision, there are so many bad Aromatics now in the market which actually make the original Aramis rise and shine above most. cursed shall be those who took the decision to discontinue Aramis and kill the brand, cursed forever they should smell the scents of designer boutique feces and urine in each of their remaining days, if they lack the source i am willing to send them my fully used colostomy bags every day.

Aramis (1966) is my second most beloved fragrance (I keep the first place for Quorum). However, I think despite the reformulations this timeless fragrance has suffered through time, but still, maintains its integrity, strong character and solid personality that put this fragrance on an honourable pedestal and a "must have" for the man's morning shaving rituals, this is a fragrance that stands on its own, no needs advertisings or recognitions as this is one of the most iconic and macho aftershave/cologne that still can be recognized by any man, I wear it often and as said along with Quorum (original green bottle from Puig house) both fragrances have been my signature and card presentation for many years.

When it comes to masculine fragrances, I strongly believe Aramis is the GOAT. Aramis avoids the cringe pitfalls of other masculine fragrances by not trying too hard. It is bold without being obnoxious. Sophisticated without being pretentious. Complex without being confusing. To achieve such a perfect balance of tones is a rarity in the fragrance market. The scent is absolutely unique and gorgeous. This is why generation after generation of men love wearing it, and why their women love smelling it on them.

Had a huge cologne splash bottle (16 FL. OZ.) back in the day - all gone around 25 years ago. Bought the current version recently and it smells quite fine considering the probable reformulations. My olfatory memory was activated, lot of good memories associated with this scent. Aramis is a timeless masculine classic. Hope they continue to produce this gem. Acording to Estee Lauder website, they only continue producing 3 colognes for men at this moment - Lauder, Pleasures and Aramis. Frag Hall of Fame: Aramis Eau de Cologne 👌🫡 Every now and then, I stumble across a fragrance so special it stops me in my tracks. When I wear it, I honestly think: why bother chasing hundreds of bottles when I could just live with this forever and be happy? This is one of those rare gems. The original Aramis Eau de Cologne isn’t just good, it’s legendary. The modern and anniversary releases still do hold their own, but the OG? It simply crushes 99.9% of fragrances out there , be it modern or vintage...at least to my nose... Timeless, powerful, and effortlessly elegant. One of the greatest fragrances ever made.

I'm a 32-year-old millennial, but I appreciate these older fragrances because they really stand out amongst what's popular now. I live in the American West in a mountain town. I like to wear scents that are in harmony with the terrain that surrounds me. I don't want to walk around smelling of fruit, candy, or anything extremely fresh or oceanic (the grizzly bears would think that smells delicious though) This is rugged, masculine, and somewhat musty. The longevity is also good even with the latest formulation. This is a great fragrance for the man that feels naked without having his pocket knife on him.

This is discontinued but still widely available. Got myself a 110ml and my dad 240ml for very cheap. It is an absolute classic and will always have fond memories for me. Not the easiest to pull off nowadays as it is quite powerful. But I love it mostly for nostalgia and the smell of the 80's for me. Used to always be a bottle of this lying around that I could sniper some out of when I was a kid. I used to plaster this stuff on lol as you did back then. One of the original beast mode fragrances. This timeless to me. Grab yourself a bottle for your collection as it will be gone soon.

Kinda smells like an Indian grocery store. I like it, even though its got a slight funk to it sometimes. Kinda reminiscent of BO. I guess that's where the "masculinity" comes from. It probably won't appeal to most people's noses but I enjoy chypres very much so this is right up my alley. I don't get very much citrus in the opening, more of a sparkling white flower and clove. This is followed quickly by cinnamon and leather, mingled with smoky incense. It's a very nice, masculine juice. Performance is lacking in modern formulations, but its cheap enough to reapply liberally.

It's Aramis. There is essentially of no other way to describe it. I have no idea what stuff they put in this. I don't really believe what they say, because these 'notes' combine to make something that seems to sit in a different plane of existence to all other fragrances. Even Polo Green, which I am tempted to put in the same ballpark as the same 'kind' of scent, seems to exist on a spectrum with all other known fragrances that Aramis has completely departed from to set up an effect of its own. I love it. I also love the price.

This perfume is very masculine and is considered a leathery and bitter fragrance, but after about half an hour, some sweet notes appear in it. In fact, this perfume surprises you more and more every moment, in my opinion, in the middle and final notes it is very similar to the famous classic Clinique women's perfume. This perfume is not suitable for men under fifty years of age.A fragrance for a romantic date and even a fragrance that can be the signature of a true gentleman!

if you put this on lightly, it has a very nice spicy leatherness type of scent. i think of a dry tobacco leaf or something, but its not bitter. very good, warm macho old school awesomeness. usually with most scents if I do one spray to my wrist and then touch it to my neck, that is just right. or one spray to my wrist touch it to my other wrist then touch both wrists to my neck, it;s the perfect amount for any scent.. not overpowerful, but noticeable.

Purchased as a blind buy whilst experimenting with chypres. I was expecting a beast but have a bottle from a 2022 batch. It's a subtle, beautiful leather-woodsy, sophisticated fragrance that's all oak panelling, English manor houses and private members clubs where everyone is a lord or viscount. I won't deny I'm disappointed with the performance (a skin scent after an hour) but its DNA is gorgeous.

Aramis is such a fresh summer scent, nice fresh and soapy...and manly, i didnt know ny wife would like it, but once we were waiting at a pedestrian crossing in Gran canaria she smelled it and said that it was great perfume, so i bought it knowing exactly what frag it was, and by surprice i have got a lot of compliments since, just be aware it might wear you instead of you wearing that.

God, I love this scent. This is a fragrance I bought for my boyfriend, and it smells incredible on him. It blends so perfectly with the scent of his skin. It’s just... his. He wears it every day now, instead of the boyish “blue” scent he used to wear, which didn’t really go with his personality. The smell of Aramis reminds me of love, safety, and the most amazing man I’ve ever known.

I got gifted a used bottle of this from the 1980s which I fell in love and used quickly but was disappointed when I purchased a 2022 batch and noticed the scent was more refined and didn't project as well as the previous bottle. But overall a nice masculine scent with excellent performance for a edt but definitely don't spray more than 4 sprays especially in cold weather.

To me as a woman this fragrance is all about soap, Wood, leather and definitely a chypre. I love this smell a combination of slightly sweetness with lots of leather. The projection and silage is moderate if sprayed generously. So i must have the new version which of course is weakened in comparison with the vintage one. But i still like it a lot.

A superb men's perfume, this is what I think of Aramis, I read here on Fragrantica. Wanting to kill Aramis is a real crime. Mr. Lauder should discontinue other perfumes like Speelbound, Pleasure for Men, Modern Muse, etc., perfumes that have never convinced and sold poorly, like Guerlain discontinuing Habit Rouge. I hope it returns in the future.

One of the only classic leather scents that wasn't murdered by modern reformulation. I'm sure the leather isn't what it was, but it's not an unbearably disgusting false tannin funk that smells like bad tea, vinegar mother, and microwaved black Cavendish. So, of course it gets killed by the wayward children of the even more wayward Ronald Lauder.

This is the best Men's fragrance thus far. Aldehydes, citrus, spices, woods, iris, patchouli, and leather, Experienced all in that order. I have several vintage bottles. The smell is so mesmerizing. I am a 35 year old as of 2025, and wore this during high school. Such a great scent. Estee! Please do not discontinue it. Bring it back!

Unfortunately Lauder group wants to discontinue aramis original 😠 such a wrong decision by Lauder group 👎 why ? Aramis original it's a true masterpiece 🏆 and we will miss it badly later! We must stop Lauder group to not discontinue Aramis! Aramis should stay alive ! it's such a iconic scent ❤️

An absolute classic which got criminally discontinued in 2025. Aramis smells like having in the 70's in the best and most unapologetically masculine way. Grab a bottle before stocks run out wether you like old school powerhouse scents or not. Do it just zo own a piece of perfume history.

Can anyone tell me if Aramis Classic is still in production? The 240ml size is no longer available, and the 110ml size is no longer easy to find on the secondary market. Something can be found, but at high prices. I'm waiting for good news from North American users. Bernard Chant RIP

If you hate this, then you're probably too young for it. It's to this day, a real classic imo, and one that is pretty nostalgic. Sure, it's dated, sure it's not your modern day fragrances, but this is one, that will forever be remembered by those who grew up around it.

This perfume is like a journey. I feel the generous aroma of southern herbs, penetrated by the hot sun. The tree trunks have opened up and are oozing thick, transparent resins. Mossiness like the smell of earth after rain. Oh, what a powerful trail of men's classics!

Iconic in every way shape and form. I bought out of nostalgia and also curiosity of how that would smell now as compared to 40 years ago. To my nose it smells exactly the same as I smelled it as a younger man. I even like it now more. Maybe it is just the nostalgia.

Aramis is for men, not boys. Aramis is for men who love women who love men. It's a fragrance for after dark, not for the office. One spray is all that's necessary. A fragrance of seduction. I am a woman and this is the only fragrance that makes me weak in the knees.
