New West for Her

There is no perfume that smells just like New West. My advice to anyone who wants to recapture this fragrance is to purchase a designer impression of this fragrance. I found one on eBay that was an undiluted, full strength perfume oil. After I rubbed it in (I never rub in fragrances, because it breaks down the perfume oils and caused them to fade faster) it started smelling like New West within 15 minutes. I purchased another (different) impression from a different company, and it smells identical to the New West Sensual Desert Nectar from the time I apply it until it fades away. DO NOT spend $600 on a genuine bottle of New West. This fragrance has been discontinued for nearly 20 years if not longer. Every bottle has turned rancid. If you don’t believe me, read the reviews from the people that DID spend $600. I bought a 4 ounce undiluted, designer impression oil version of this fragrance for less than $30, and it smells identical. I finally found my gem, and even though it isn’t “the real deal,” I’m totally satisfied considering I have the smell of my childhood back. Message me if you want to know where I got my oils from. I profit nothing from anything I recommend other than the satisfaction of knowing that I reunited someone with a nostalgic fragrance for countless people💙

This is my favorite scent of all time. I never tire of it and thankfully it can still be found online. I am awaiting the arrival of a bottle right now since I ran out a few months ago. I have tried many other perfumes through the years, and nothing ever comes close. I feel uplifted by this perfume, it is truly unique and also a scent that one gets constant compliments on. Once someone suggested Il Baccio by Borghese as a good replacement for New West, I did try it out at a perfume store then and found that one pleasant, but did not buy it so cannot confirm if it is a good replacement, Update: it is years since my first review above and now New West runs around $400 online and often looks yellow rather than the light color I was used to. I have spent years trying to replace this scent with no luck. it seems I will never again have a favorite perfume. These days I use Issey Miyake Summer, and also Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. They remind me a little of New West in that they are fresh and light. But nothing will ever replace new West. It is inexplicable to me why the house of Aramis does not bring it back.

New West has been my absolute favorite and signature fragrance ever since I first smelled it at 14. I've been so saddened since it was discontinued. I had read several reviews that Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden was a close match but I was reluctant to try something else. I just received Sunflowers and I'm in heaven. From the moment I smelled the cap, it took me back to my preteen and young adulthood years. It's not an exact match but on my skin it's almost identical. The drydown of Sunflowers on me stays fruity yet musky just like New West and not overly flowery at all. Now, every day it's pure joy to put it on. I'm so glad Elizabeth Arden has kept making Sunflowers and I hope it works out for others who are in a search for a New West alternative. New West will always be my ultimate favorite fragrance of all time. I've noticed people reacting positively to Sunflowers as I walk by and I just smile. Many thanks for the recommendations!!

Oh my gosh I totally forgot about this!! I wore this in the early 90s and I wore the kind that was kind of like a gel and had a shimmer to it in the bottle. I loved it SO much and I remember my mom would borrow it and she didnt do that very often. I always liked the thicker kind better than the regular spray. I don't remember what it was called. I will read through the reviews and see if anyone has mentioned it. (I just looked it up and it was called "Desert Nectar"). I love seeing all these scents from my past popping up on the side of the homepage, it brings back so many memories! I would LOVE to smell this again. I guess I will see if I can get a sample somewhere. It is so fun strolling down memory lane through scent. Nothing can bring back a memory better than a fragrance from that period in time.

Been tidying up cupboards and other dark corners of my home, and you may imagine my surprise when I found a bottle of this beauty, with a little bit of the juice left in it. It must be at least 15 years old, possibly more. I used to wear this a lot in the late 1990s and early noughties. I'm unsure if it's still good to wear, given that it was sitting in the cupboard for more than a decade; but the bottle still smells great. I see that this is listed as a Floral Green scent, but it's so much more than that. It was the scent that triggered our collective love for fruity concoctions, to be followed by Cacharel Eden and the likes. To me, this is a perfect summer fragrance, fresh, fruity, leafy, aquatic. Now I'm off to dig out my old photo albums, play my R.E.M. records and remember my student days.

Assomiglia a sunflowers ma anche a wrappings e knowing di estee lauder. Il genere è tipico degli anni 90,stile americano, piacevole e rasserenante. Può somigliare a Escape o Sunflowers ma è molto piu profondo si sente un odore di ambra grigia che sa di sale e mare,ci sono momenti di ombra in mezzo ai pini,di sole fra i campi fioriti e di vento. Può essere usato in ogni stagione,dona una sensazione di buon umore che oggi non si trova più. Più lo uso e più mi piace. Purtroppo è fuori produzione da una vita..

Oh how I missed New West Skinscent absolutely awesome watery watermelon oceanic scent this perfume was all about the Calone notes with pine needles and oakmoss! New West Skinscent and the Sensual Desert nectar was to die for! A nectar of the God's, I remember this watermelon mossy green and fresh oceanic sea side airy scent that I loved so sad they discontinued this Beauty. Estee Lauder should bring this back to life... if I only knew it was going to be discontinued I would've rack up bottles of this golden juice and made my pocket and many people happy. New West is all about the 'Calone' note also known as watermelon Ketone a marine ocean nuance which is missing in the pyramid.

This was my signature scent when I was younger, always got loads of compliments when I was wearing it, I've spent years looking for it and finally found someone selling it online, could not wait to smell it and get catapulted back into the 90s but none of that unfortunately, the only thing I can smell now it that of piss on a pile of pine needles with a bit of a minty smell.. Urgh. I found layering Inis (energy of the sea edt) with Sunflowers quite good. Today I got my hand on LA Source bodywash and it does smell like the New West thst I remember. Wished someone would make a good clone of it, please let me know.

Had this in the 90's, there was nothing like it at the time, and there has been nothing like it since. Such a fresh yet heady mix, super ozonic yet soft. Does anyone know if the Men's equivalent is even remotely similar? I'm dying to have this scent again but not at the current $600+ price tags on eBay!!!! So far I have sapped pretty much anything else that has been said to be similar to New West for her and nothing has even come close. I'm thinking / hoping maybe the mens' skin scent will be close enough for the sake of nostalgia?

I must have found a unicorn about two years ago apparently!! I found my New West at TJ or Ross, can’t even remember which and had to have it. It was always my scent in the 90’s. It’s still full and I just spritzed some on after a shower and thought, who made this?? Looked it up and saw the crazy prices it’s going for!!! Crazy!! I am sooo happy I have this, it still smells great and is full. I never knew it had watermelon either but the scent is a gorgeous classic.

premiumperfumeoils.com has a perfect duplicate of this scent. They basically put the name brand product through chemical detection computer analysis, and they were able to replicate the scent perfectly. If it isn’t on that site, the same company has an additional website called perfumeoils.com. I don’t work for them, I just want people to be able to have their scents back, and I want people to be able to find them so they don’t stop manufacturing it.

i've been wearing this stuff for 20 years and i love love LOVE it. there is nothing else like it - the watermelon, night blooming jasmine, and freshly cut grass (is that what you ppl are calling "mossy"?) transported me into childhood memories of summer evenings in our back yard. i wear it less now because it's hard to replace, but every time i do, two things happen. i get all those sweet summer memories and countless people tell me i smell good.

This wonderful juice reminds me a little also of La Source by Crabtree & Evelyn. I first wore this in the 90s, in my twenties, when noone except a very beautiful greek girl I knew wore it. It is fresh, watermelon, oceanic heaven to me. I keep it in the fridge nowawdays during summer to preserve the cool notes. I am looking for a back up bottle but alas, it seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth! So this is precious indeed.

@perfumeaddiction I find crabtree and evelyn la source to be pretty close to this one. I own both of them. C and E is a bodymist so longevity is not amazing. I also own Inception from Zarko perfume, which also is a really close call to New West for her. If you add some watermelon note for sweetness its almost identical. I personally layer Inception with CK one red edition, for an almost similar scent next to New West.

This is a beautiful marine scent that I have loved since the '90s. Sadly it has been discontinued for some time, but thankfully I still have 1 full 3.4 oz left for special times. If you also love this fragrance, try the La Source fragrance by Crabtree & Evelyn it's almost the same-seriously. Oh, and Aramis the 90's called and they want their New West back again . . . please-oh the memories😉

It was my teenager's era's perfume. My college friends always loves this scent on me. They complimented that this fragrance suits my character. Fresh, vibrant and colorful. I don't think it is still available these days in the department store, lucky I still have half bottle left. I have kept it untouched in my perfume wardrobe for 10 years I guess...and it still smells great as it was.

I have never smelled this before but I really want this (discontinued why?) based on excellent reviews of people who really miss it now and also all the notes/ingredients listed are just my thing! I adore aquatic/fruity/woody scents and I feel as if I am missing out by not having smelt this classic gem of a fragrance. Please hear our cries and bring this back!

I too wore this fragrance in the 90's and I enjoyed the cool scent of watermelon that it had. I purchased it for a beach vacation that I went on. Had a great time and every time I wore New West it would remind me of that vacation. New West is a sunny, happy scent that makes me think of cool crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches. Refreshing!

I just bought Heeley Sel Marin as a blind buy because its supposed to smell like my long lost New West for her. I ́m amazed ...Its really close. I have an original New West and the Sel Marin is an almost with some citrus on top. The best dupe I have ever tried....and I have tried a lot. If you miss this- maybe Sel Marin will quench your thirst.

I love this. It's fresh and fruity all at the same time. I can't wait to get a chance to wear this in the warm weather because I know it's going to be incredible. The compliments just keep coming when I waer this scent. I wish Estee Lauder would bring it back. Luckly you can still find it at some etailers. My favorite perfume of the 90s.

I used to wear New West when I was a teenager, and I always received compliments on how good I smelled. However, I had not thought about it for years until I recently encountered a fragrance called "On the Horizon" from Bath and Body Works' new luxury line. It smells very similar to New West and brings back many fun memories.

It is one of the most unusual and beautiful fragrances produced by the perfume industry. It cannot be compared to any perfume. Perfume awards can't get to where they should be either. The first reason was aramis could not reproduce it. The second reason is the low average age of fragrantica. they do not know this masterpiece.

My art teacher wore this when I was in school. It`s a fantastic summer fragrance, very unique- fruity but not girly. How would I describe it- it`s more a sophisticated fruity-floral scent. I imagine myself taking a bottle of this one with me to my next holidays in the sun- to bond this to feelings of summer, sun and sea...

Sooo loved this one. Youthfull, fresh and fruity. Melon notes OMG ! BRING IT BACK !!! I have a small bottle with a tiny amount left. I m savning it for rainy days. This perfume brings a smile to my face and Happy memories in my mind. The lovestory with new West for her is a never ending one for me.

I love thus scent. It is the only one I wore from 1992 until around 2009 when I could not find it anywhere in the U.S. for less than $300 american. I wish Aramis would bring it back! So much from the 90s is back in style - this should come back, too. I miss it soon much!

This was such of a beautiful fragrance! I remember it being so fresh, it had dimension, amazing silage and longevity, It would transport you to a bright and crisp morning in a pine forest full of dew. If you could bottle young optimism, this would be it.

I have about a 3rd of a bottle of this which is about 20 something years old..It doesn't smell quite like it used to but I just cannot bear to part with it!! Would love to have it again but unlikely these days without a mortgage! Sigh! :(

i bought this in the early 90's and loved the smell! It reminds me of juicy summertime watermelon. i bought a second 3.4 oz bottle in the mid 2000's. Question WHY ARE PEOPLE SELLING IT FOR $400 OR MORE? Maybe I should sell mine? hmmm

Everyone missing this great fragrance, there is now the Eau de Toilette of the La Source series from Crabtree & Evelyn and it is VERY similar. I don't know why it isn't in Fragrantica's database yet, but go and check C&E website.

i sooooo loved this fragrance...i still have some...people on eBay are RIDICULOUS! trying to sell for 350 +.....This was a fragrance that you could buy for about 40.00.... eBay Vultures .... should be ashamed!

One of my all time favorites, and I'm a guy....just FYI, when this was launched it was marketed as a chypre thanks to the heavy dose of oakmoss, and I'd agree...a surprisingly fresh, watermelon aquatic.

I read that a lot of people miss this perfume. ECLAT perfumes has a dupe (297 RAR - Watermelon & pine). I've only smelled the dupe so I don't know how close it gets but it's good!

Very uncommon, i would like to find it again in France. I wear it in the 90 s(i m a man)and every body asked what it was. Nonconformist but nevertheless liked by everybody.

It has been years since they made New West for Her but it is still my ALL TIME FAVORITE!!! Really wish they would consider making it again! Nothing compares!!!!

new west has nothing to do with elizabeth arden sunflower. sunflower is a soft and nice scented perfume. but it's not similar.

I never tried this fragrance when it was on the market, but the high praise motivated me to hunt down a bottle, even at the high ebay prices. Never having worn New West, it was difficult to gauge the freshness of the bottle. It is certainly not rancid, but I have no memory of the scent when it was new. I have since come into possession of another partially full bottle, and it smells identical. This is not proof that either bottle is pristine, but it gives me a bit of reassurance. In any case, I love this fragrance, and I do not bestow this honor lightly. Despite the psychological effects of scarcity, I dislike some highly praised, discontinued fragrances. New West sneaked up on me and blew my mind. When I first spritzed it on, I found it to be a very green scent, and I mainly detected fresh cucumber on my skin. I did see a couple reviews that described it similarly, but I still doubted the freshness of my bottle, as I detected nothing floral or feminine as described in many reviews. Generally, I am not a big fan of aquatics. New West, however, seemed more fresh and unique than "watery" to me. I decided to give it some time. I have been living in central Texas for several years now, but I used to live right on the beach in South Florida. I would start many a day walking out the front door of my building and onto the beach to spend some time on the sand, if not the whole day. On the day I first tried New West, I headed to the mall in Texas to do some shopping. At some point midday, I caught just a whiff of beach air as I walked through the mall. Oh, my. Wow. It was just as if I had spent the morning on the beach before heading to the mall, and my hair and skin were still kissed by salt water. From that moment on, I was sold. Any fragrance that can so perfectly evoke the genuine experience...impressive.

One of my mistakes in the realm of perfume was selling my 100 ml bottle of New West for Women on Ebay years ago. I liked the perfume a lot, but since I had so many perfumes I thought it was a good idea to cull some of them. I find myself missing the perfumes I've sold, and New West is one of the fragrances I miss. Not sure what I was thinking, as New West had become difficult to find when I purchased it, so I couldn't kid myself that I could replace the bottle I sold. I originally bought this for a work friend who told me it was her favorite perfume, and who mentioned that her husband didn't "allow her" to buy perfume because he considered it a waste of money (my friend was the main breadwinner of their family). I got online and found two bottles of New West for Women on Dillard's: one for her, and one for me, since I was curious. I left the perfume on her desk as a gift. Now I wish I hadn't sold mine. Seller, beware.
