Tobacco Reserve

Yee haw, I am going deep into the Aramis collection lately. I wanted to make the cowboy comparison but it's already done! But no, this is straight up what a rugged outlaw cowboy would smell like. It is treading into the ''very daring'' territory. It's wearable but still a fun confidence check for sure, if you're into that you gonna love it! I haven't encountered an earthy/green ''sweet'' tabacco scent like this before. And don't think sugar sweet, tabacco leaf is something more reminiscent of the wrap of a cigar. Not only does it give shape to the filler but the wrap adds significant flavor. So it's sweet purely in tobacco definition. But that's not all there is to it. The note break down doesn't mention Iris but the main accord table does. It is right there with the opening but don't think like ''powdery'' it's more like the petal texture, it gives that warm clary sage and black currant some dimension. Actually this opening is so cool. Under appreciated technical parfumery there and it also lasts a bit before the tabacco shows up. All of it has just the right amount of aldehyde airiness, which is a much welcomed addition, preventing it from choking you. Lots of earthiness and a subtle nutmeg aromatic. It hit me later, but this is a grown up mugler pure havana that isn't super sweet or plasticy smelling. This is a real tabacco with a heavy oakmoss. At times that tabacco can turn bit musty because of the heavy oakmoss but the perfumer behind it most likely recognized that as well and added some vanillin/tonka in the base to round up all the edges without subduing it too much. It's actually so good, the longer it sits you're getting a really beautiful round earthy warm amber'd sweet tobacco with the exact amount of fine tuned edges to make this a super comfortable wear for many hours. Like I love the smell and taste of cigars but the smell that lingers on later can be so repulsive, this is all the nice parts combined. In the very late dry down it's a full tonka. The only thing that would've made it gone full cowboy would be some leather or even castorium. That'd be so fucking sick! It's a shame that this one is fully discontinued. I am gonna enjoy wearing the sample I got while it lasts tho! Wearing it turned me into a tobacco spewing, gun slinging, bounty hunting, horse back riding, word slurring, outlaw from a Clint Eastwood movie!

You ever find yourself wanting something but not knowing what you're exactly looking for? Me....I love tobacco scents and have been on the hunt to find my perfect tobacco fragrance. I'm not sure if I love the sweeter tobacco scents or the more pungent smack you in the face scents. I have a short list of tobacco fragrances I put my nose on but only due to starting this tobacco journey a short while ago. I own/sampled PDM Herod, Spicebomb, Xerjoff Naxos, Versace Dreamer, TF Tobacco Oud, and TF Tobacco Vanille. Today I'm at Marshall's browsing the clearance racks and do a double-take at their men's fragrance end-cap. Not gonna lie...didn't know Marshall's carried men's fragrances. If you're a fan of colognes from 1996-2005...Marshall's has you covered. Here I was walking down memory lane and getting a good laugh at how hard it was to buy all these colognes if you didn't live close to a department store. Something caught my eye....."Tobacco Reserve". Hmmmm....I've heard of Aramis before but not Tobacco Reserve. For $25.00 it was a no-brainer. If I didn't like it, I would have been out $25....I've lost more than that in less time at the casino. Sprayed both arms and hopped in the car. The only other times I've smelled a fragrance that's stopped me in my tracks was when I smelled Aventus and Oud Wood for the first time....and now Tobacco Reserve. And honestly, I didn't smell tobacco right away. It was more of a vetiver and spice....but it was enough to catch my undivided attention. The smell brought me back to a time when I was a kid. I don't know if it was something my dad or grandpa wore.....but it smelled familiar and amazing. By the time I got home the tobacco started to come out along with the fougere (must be the oak moss). It's so clean and defined with no rough edges. Very classy. I catch myself thinking about my daughters when they grow up and what smell would remind them of me. I have a very small list and this one would be on it, in the blink of an eye.

Undermarketed beauty! I saw this sitting behind the Macy's fragrance counter with all the re-buy scents. No tester. So naturally I assumed this was an old classic that they don't bother sending testers out for any more. So I had three surprises in store for me when I asked if there was a tester hidden away for the two wrapped boxes. 1. The saleswoman surprised me by opening up one of them and saying "we can't sell it if nobody can smell it." 2. It was Glorious (yes, with a capital G). This surprised me because for the most part I've not been a good fit with Aramis scents, which to my mind was why I might not have heard of a niche flanker from years gone by. 3. I pulled it up and saw it was a 2018 release. That floored me - it looks like a classic late 80's, early 90's Aramis for men flanker, and it appears to have been treated like one. I don't think I came across even a whisper about this, unless I was on vacation when it might have made the "new release" rounds around here. It has a great medium-bodied, slightly sweet tobacco on the opening (like pipe tobacco) and very evident sage, and the light, uplifting spiciness of the nutmeg. The moderate sweetness from the currant and tonka is in the realm of contemporary scents quite understated, but bear in mind if you only go for drier blends you're probably not going to like this so definitely try before you buy. If you're into tobacco and like a little sweetness, I'd say you're in safer territory to dive in and grab it. I've only just put it on so I may update this as it develops, but I was so excited I had to get this out of me - great, great cool/cold weather scent. I am floored I had to discover it this way.

So many great reviews for this one, very well described. My personal adventure for this one is I waited too long and paid a bit much, roughly $80.00 for 100ml, and I just bought a back up. This is nice, like surprisingly nice, and it does have a strange combination of notes that if you are familiar with the original Aramis than this being a flanker is not a surprise, YET it does not smell enough like the original to be dated in any way. Sweet powdery, dry vanilla tobacco, not as strong and sweet as the Now famous Tom Ford version, but clearly a tobacco oriented gem that suits anyone of sophistication today. I almost feel like The House of Aramis took a look at today’s fragrance, boldly discussed subject 534 in a board room or lab, renamed it Tobacco Reserve, threw it in the face of today’s fragrance consumers, and then just as quickly abandoned it. It’s as if to say, “F you guys, we still have some tricks up our sleeves, show some damn respect!” I have many Aramis classics in my collection, they are dated, but mostly pretty artistic and unique to others from the time period. I don’t know what direction the house wants to take, but if this is a recent example of what they can do, I look forward to the next surprise, and perhaps I won’t end up spending way more than I should by waiting too long...That said, it’s still worth the cost of admission in my eyes. Longevity is respectable, silage is softer than expected, spring and fall day or night for the mature crowd. Note: 110ml Now I feel I got a great deal. ;)

Aramis Tobacco Reserve is a late-2018 release that’s gotten a lot of buzz, particularly since it’s landed on the secondary market. The scent is a very agreeable tobacco scent, seemingly marketed toward and a bit more traditionally designed with men in mind. It’s only mildly both sweet and spicy with tobacco in the center, a very interesting and balanced combination. What’s more curious is that it manages to be sweet with neither the familiar tobacco partners of vanilla nor honey, but rather, a blend of blackcurrant, nutmeg, and tonka, and the mix is sharpened/spiced up not only by nutmeg but also clary sage and iris on a bed of oakmoss. Overall it’s a really neat formula that produces a versatile, sophisticated tobacco experience that is easily accessible to those that are put off by either overly-sweet tobacco fragrances or fragrances that simply have too much or too realistic tobacco. Its performance leaves something to be desired, in my opinion, but modest performance has its advantages, too: the fragrance can be applied more liberally and in varying weather and social circumstances. The retail pricing of Tobacco Reserve is $78 for 110ml, with discount sometimes available at the department store at which it is sold, but it became reasonably quickly available in US discount stores like Marshalls for only $25, at which the fragrance is really a steal, in my opinion. Most importantly, the smell of Tobacco Reserve itself is really great and I’m a big fan. 8 out of 10

Purchased yesterday from Boots in Walsall. Batch:A48 18 115. Wore it all day yesterday. Had a shower and wore it to watch a band in the pub last night. Performance is good but not what is commonly referred to as beast mode. The tobacco leaf note is the most noticeable element as you'd expect. Put it on after another shower this morning and after an hour I thought I'd try something. I put a tiny spray of Nebeel Arab Tradition on top as a layering experiment and I think it works brilliantly. You could use Rasasi Al Yuqawam as a substitute for Arab Tradition. The deep, sweet and rich fresh tobacco leaf given by Aramis Tobacco Reserve goes well with the raspberry suede of the Arab Tradition to produce a warm, dry, sweet, fruity and clean autumnal smell. Edit:26/9/18 I have been continuing to wear this since purchase because its really so very good. I have received a complement at work which speaks volumes because I always wear something for work and am lucky enough to have a fairly large pool to choose from. Complements are quite rare. I've asked my friends at work and projection is about a yard off two sprays and ninety minutes into wearing it which is plenty for me. This one just seems to suit me and the time of year. Clear skies, blanket of dead leaves on the ground, hands stuffed in jacket pockets, sharp fresh air with a nip to it in the early morning. The light musk with just heavier tobacco leaf works well. This is a fairly impressive gorgeous tobacco fragrance and worth it if you can still get it at a reasonable price. Check ebay and discounters. Note: For testing do not test on paper! Only on skin or you will miss out. This fragrance has a wonderful scent journey for the first 30 minutes and about 45 to 60 min mark the oak moss and oris root really comes out but not too much as it is blended so well with the tonka bean! After this the fragrance stays the same but with added smoke which lingers. The performance on my skin was very long, 8+ hours and the sillage was amazing, I was getting wafts of it during the day. Its a very classy dignified fragrance for a smartly dressed mature man that is well established. Its not a dated or an old school fragrance but a true gentlemen fragrance for one who wishes to convey, class, sophistication and whom is confident in wearing something different to the the mainstream dribble. Its an every day scent, not date night and you could wear this to the office (when that was thing) but I would wear this during the day casually when in smart casual attire in temps ideally below 20 degrees C, 68 F. Totally recommend this as its one of kind so get it while you can!

Yes, Colognefreak I believe you and I caught the same sale. I got my first bottle, and liked it so much when it came available a 2nd time awhile later at a price just over a hundred dollars Canadian I scooped it up again. This is one of my favourites, a manly tobacco with little sweetness involved. I get a powdery iris type vibe in the back ground that rounds out the scent making it very pleasant. This is not a gourmand style tobacco, leans mature and sophisticated, a scent of character for sure. Signature worthy in cool weather, performs well, and is quite appealing. Is it worth the discontinued gouging? That really depends, similar scents do exist, but for myself this one is just special, and almost sad as Aramis really did release some legendary scents. If you can get a full bottle for 150 or less, I feel it is worth it, but don’t blind buy if you don’t know the profile front and center from experience. It might not be for everyone and tobacco scents are plentiful, but yeah this one is pretty special.

Wow gorgeous scent - walloping value! Pleasant blind buy. Ironically I find this to be a subdued tobacco scent and rather more about the aromatics. The clary sage is quite strong and amazingly sweetened and rounded off by the black currant tho you’ll only figure this when you put nose to skin. The clary sage et al seems to ride over the tobacco bodied out by the tonka and honestly without over analysing comes across as a weaker TF Lavender Extreme. Occasionally this fleetingly reminds me also of Farmacia SS Anunsiata dial 1558 Tobacco D Autodore albeit this is lacking in depth and quality detail. Yep - you would be completely forgiven at a quick whiff for mistaking this as a Lavender scent with vanilla and occasional whiffs of caramel. And YES - for the mostly linear long drydown it reminds me of a phase of my fave Lavender Extreme. Corker in performance and usually had for a reasonable price. If you like Tobacco scents and dry aromatics you simply would be foolish to pass this up for the price...

Aramis (edt) was my first “older” perfume I tried, and immediately loved the amber/spice and sense of times past. I had been eyeing Tobacco Reserve for a while and finally pulled the trigger on a bottle. So very worth it. To the name, this is a remarkably good “tobacco” smell for the money (everything else is like twice the price). I used to work at a cigar shop, and the deep sweet of those cabinets full of tobacco is well replicated in this. A little powdery at the top, but melts into your skin into a warm and smooth tobacco. Can’t really get a handle on the “herbal” notes that are supposedly in here. This is also definitely an EDP. I’m not usually so into ‘sweet’ foward perfume, so I made myself sick with too much of this (sick in the same way I feel after having smoked a cigar or hookah). In this way it “rings true” to the source material. Love spraying this on in the morning, and adding something Smokey like T-Rex or City on Fire to my wrist. Recommend strongly

I wanted a non-sweet smelling tobacco that smelled more like real tobacco and cigars/pipes than the sweet standard tobacco found in most tobacco fragrances, and Tobacco Reserve is EXACTLY that. The sweetness is very gentle and nice. It's not nauseating and in your face. I LOVE this smell. It's just what I wanted. However I am not so sure about the silage and longevity. I gotta put one day aside for this guy and report back. As far as fidelity to real tobacco smell is concerned, this is as good as it gets. No messing around. Straight tobacco(green leaf tobacco/cigar smell). It's very classy in my opinion. This is what a British Lord would smell like in my mind's eye. Update: I gave this a full wearing with 7, 8 sprays and it did not disappoint. The silage and longevity are very good. It lasts a solid 10 hours with 8 sprays. And the silage is a solid 4 hours at least. Very well done. I don't understand why they would discontinue this. This is awesome.

Right out of the gate, this reminds me of Tobacco Vanille but better, less sweet and more manly. I like the opening which is kind of fresh and green. It doesn’t hang very long before the tobacco note starts to creep in and it’s a good leafy one. This is definitely not a “beginners” tobacco fragrance and in all fairness, not a young man’s scent. This is mainly because of the emphasis on tobacco instead of it being complimentary. I read a few reviews on here that say it’s a “Tonka” scent at dry down with hardly any tobacco. You folks need a nose transplant. I think it’s a forty and over fragrance. Now that we have that out of the way, it’s a gem. It will appeal to mature men and ladies who like the old school masculine fragrances. BTW, layer this with Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme ,Cool Water or any Barbershop fougere’ and ooh baby...a wintertime bomb with pizazz! Scent 8.5 Sillage 8 Performance 8 Longevity 7

Sentence Summary: An amazing semi-sweet tobacco fragrance, that smells fantastic throughout and should be a staple for Autumn and Winter, also lasts for ages - Thoroughly impressed. I got this from TKMaxx for £24.99 for a 60m, possibly the best value blind buy purchase I've ever made. A while ago I thought Eau de Baux had one of the best openings I'd ever smelled. This opens similar to Eau de Baux, then continues this amazing opening for most of the length of the fragrance and I absolutely love it. So much so, I went and picked up another bottle. Whereas Eau de Baux goes the Vanilla route, Aramis Tobacco Reserve goes more of a honey tobacco route. Both last about the same, I'd say EDB probably would edge it on complements, but Tobacco Reserve lasts slightly longer on me. One of my new Autumn and Winter favourites. A hidden gem. If I were you I'd RESERVE a bottle ASAP. Thank me later. Overall Rating 9/10

Yep wearing this discontinued gem today and got me compliment which is a nice change, especially in lockdown in London. I put it on and went for a 20min walk and it is just projecting off me like a beast. Best tip is wear this on your arms and the back of neck, the heat just releases the base notes beautifully and all the notes are just blended perfectly so you have a smooth as silk blend of accords. To me it has the perfect balance of sweet and bitter so it still gives off an inviting masculine scent of a handsome modern gentleman. This is not a metro fragrance, its a strong fragrance for a classy mature gentlemen late 20s up, get a decant off ebay and test it, totally worth a blind buy, I paid £45 for 60ml of ebay and after wearing it I would be happy to have paid double, I have tobacco fragrances twice the price per ml and are not as good as this pearl.

Gorgeous juice. This is a very fine fresh herbal tobacco scent that I simply was blown away by. It’s sweet but not sugary sweet as is pure havane by Thierry mugler. I also enjoy that one but I do prefer Aramis’s take simply because of the more dry and creamier dry down. It’s very classy in the Aramis sense while maintaining an extemely modern sensibility about it. I think the key ingredient is the greenish tinge that the fragrance pulls off in relation to a fresh tobacco along with the sweetness and woodiness marks this as the best release of 2018. For me anyway. Great projection and longevity. Versatile but limited to the colder months. And trust me. Very very compliment worthy. I’m a a huge fan of the original aramis and my only hope is that this will live on in their catalog as a true masterpiece!!!!! Thank u Aramis!!!!!!

This is a really good tobacco base fragrance! For the money it's an amazing value and hidden gem for sure. The opening is very sharp and herbal. I definitely get the clary sage. Blackcurrant I'm not so sure about. For a few minutes it's intensely herbal and a bit bitter, which then gives way to tobacco and orris. It's still a bit green for a little while and then a lovely sweetness becomes apparent, a true sweet dark tobacco scent, which is where it settles. I keep catching whiffs of it as I move around so I know the performance is good. The juice is strong, you can tell as soon as you spray it, it doesn't just evaporate or absorb immediately like a cheaper fragrance would. I got a 3 ounce bottle of this for about $65 on Ebay and it's genuine, with a serial number. It's great!

Just purchased it at John Lewis (you get a free washbag and a 200ml Aramis Deodorant spray with it) and I'm happy to say that the scent is absolutely (not 'fn') fabulous. It's an Eau De Parfum, and performs like a top-level niche scent, very strong, very noticeable, and very unique. The opening is sweet amber/tobacco, with the sweetness coming from a beautiful blackcurrant top-note, and it dries down with a soft creaminess and dusty tobacco lingering for 6 hours plus. It's comparable to Mugler's Pure Havanne, but think of PH for the more distinguished gentleman, not so sugary sweet, more refined, powerful, and redolent of a businessman celebrating a hard day's work, making deals that benefit everyone, and making their business, and country, truly great again :)

This is a definite wrist-sniffer all day long. I'm on a tobacco-forward fragrance hunt and this one was on my list to sample. I'm not a sweet nor vanilla fan, but having it come from the warm, creaminess of tonka beans is really very pleasant! This is becoming a favorite fragrance for me and I'm seriously considering a full bottle. Aramis TR's longevity and sillage are very good and the price is right in the middle. I'm stating all this have tried Havana Reserve by Aramis (blue bottle; expensive and not getting much tobacco, so not a fan) and Herod by Parfums de Marley (I like very much; smells most like pipe tobacco but the price is scary). Still need to try Tobacco Absolute from Molton Brown and I have a full bottle of Havana (Aramis) on the way...

Unlike other recent Aramis editions, I’m relieved to report that performance on Tobacco Reserve is simply not an issue. Excellent performance, with longevity of 6 hours plus from a couple of modest sprays and good projection too. I get something that’s not immediately recognisable as tobacco, being moderately sweet and very creamy and that despite having completely different ingredients is similar to, but a touch spicier, than the lavender-vanilla laden Caron Pour Homme. Overall, it’s bordering on niche quality and is a versatile fragrance that would work in all seasons but especially in cooler weather, and would function well as an office or dressy fragrance at night time. A splendid addition to the House of Aramis. Recommended!

What we have here, is a hidden gem. I didn't think much of Tobacco Reserve immediately after application, other than having the classic Aramis DNA. Which didn't last long before taking on a new identity. After a few minutes, I got serious Tobacco Vanille vibes... if Tobacco Vanille came out in the 80s, due to the considerable amount of oakmoss in the composition. I'm aware Aramis was released in '66, but came to be quite popular in the 80s. Tobacco Reserve has its very own personality, with some familiar facets relative of Tom Ford or Spicebomb Extrême as some have mentioned. I say that confidently with both notes and quality in mind. I hate the term "beast mode", but I'll say it's savagely sophisticated.
