Meethaq

The fragrance has just arrived and I tested it. I am aware that it will still mature over the coming weeks and months, but I would already like to share my first impressions: The fragrance will continue to develop over time, but in terms of conception it strongly leans toward a amber-leather dating scent for the evening. This floral composition is rounded off with the essential base notes of an evening/dating fragrance: amber, vanilla, and tonka bean. The concept reminds me of dating fragrances such as YSL Myslf and Dolce & Gabbana The One Black. Only a few minutes after the first sprays, I can already notice that the fragrance has good sillage and longevity. I’ll give it a few more weeks, and it will probably become nuclear with long-lasting performance. The presentation and packaging are very good: leather packaging with embossed lettering, a heavy glass bottle with Arabic ornamentation on a plaque – something I haven’t seen before. For €15, great price-performance ratio. For now completely safe blind buy. Once the fragrance has matured, I’ll return and continue my review. Edit: After almost four weeks of maturation, I can share my final impressions: the fragrance has remained just as it started — only with better longevity. Interestingly, in the very late drydown, there’s a leathery note that I can’t detect at all when spraying it. It only becomes noticeable after a day on clothes and also when smelling the bottle’s neck. When freshly sprayed on clothing, there’s no leather to be found — instead, it reveals a beautiful floral sweetness that reminds me of YSL MYSLF. Not the fragrance itself, but this sweet-floral date-night concept. It’s a great everyday scent for compliments — I’ve received quite a few. The fragrance is absolutely mass-appealing and can be worn at the office, on dates, in church, or simply in everyday life. Thanks to its floral sweetness (either jasmine or lily of the valley), it’s perfect for autumn, winter, and spring. It would also work in summer, though it might be a bit too light to hold up well in the summer heat. The sillage isn’t overpowering or intrusive — rather, it’s pleasantly sweet and floral. This isn’t a serious, overly professional fragrance, but a relaxed one that pairs just as well with a hoodie and jeans as it does with a black suit, a tie and elegant shoes. A great blind buy.

So I do NOT like the dna of PDM's - Layton and am CONVINCED that PDM copied the old dna from eithet Avon's - Mesmerize, or Coty's-Gravity also which both came out in 1992 and I never enjoyed, although everyone around me seemed to own one of those fragrances back in "92". Anyhow, I was initially very dissapointed with Meethaq bc the notes I read promised Ink, Leather and Woods which sounded quite interesting to me but as we know, those notes were WROOONG, plus I already owned a small sample of Layton which I never use bc again, NO me gusta, plus I also own Maison Alhambra's- Leyden so I already had Layton's dna which I dont like coming outta my ears!! Thing with Meethaq is that (IMO) it smells BETTER than OG Layton does! Methaq is very smooth yet quite potent lasting 8 to 9 hours on smy skin and a couple days on my shirts, its a bit sweeter than Layton and although I sometimes enjoy Camphor in fragrances, that Menthol accord just doesn't work with the other notes in Layton and tbat Menthol/Camphor is not present in this fragrance. Meethaq is extremely long-lasting and has great projection/sillage. Its still NOT my favorite dna, but its a couple notches better than the original (IMO) And is a very well done fragrance indeed. Less sweet and more earthy Layton with very long duration and very strong projection. You have to like bitter aromas to enjoy it. If you're looking for a 100% clone of Layton, look elsewhere. A special aroma for special moments, not for everyday use. Its price is humiliatingly low I bought it for €13. The bottle is a real gem.

Like Akel said, this is akin to an earthier and more bitter Layton. Really good performance.

Nothing except a strong, aggressive, bitter amber. I only use this for layering to add some interest to others like Montaigne, Sacred, or 9PM, similarly beast mode.

Based solely on the effusive presentation of an INSTAGRAM reviewer (I'm not sure she actually "reviews" but she surely is enthusiastic)....I bought MEETHAQ *Extrait de Rouge* (white bottle) and....I like it. It's spicy. A number of Fragrantica reviewers have opined that it smells a lot like *Oriana*....but I haven't smelled *Oriana* so I can't add that frame of reference. Owning...and liking....*Extrait de Rouge* motivated me to blind buy this MEETHAQ. I read the notes (Lavender, Bergamot, Geranium, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Amber, Tonka Bean, Patchouli, Vanilla) and thought....why not? It'll be the pepper to *Extrait de Rouge's* salt. Verdict: When the perfumer combined Lavender, Bergamot, Geranium, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Amber, Tonka Bean, Patchouli and Vanilla the result is the inside of a 1960s Auto Parts Store ~> Motor Oil, Dead Batteries, Gaskets, Tires, Greasy Mechanics Uniforms and an adorable old dog. If that's your jam....this is your perfume.

There is a lot of confusion around the notes to this fragrance. I believe there may have been a reformulation prior to its release and the notes were never updated. The notes should be: TOP NOTES: Bergamot, Leather; MIDDLE NOTES: Tobacco, Ink; BASE NOTES: White Florals, Warm Spices. This fragrance does smell like Layton in the opening. It then takes a turn when it dries down. It definitely has a leathery, inky dry down that I actually quite enjoy. I prefer this to the OG for the fall and winter months as it is a darker version of Layton. I am currently wearing these side by side and the projection and longevity seems to be pretty equal on both. For the $18 I paid for it, it’s a no brainer. Bottle and atomizer are good as well. As always, scent is subjective and so are opinions.
