Al Majmua

This is simply stunning. I wouldn't say it was love at first sniff for me, but I honestly could not stop thinking about it for days afterwards and simply had to get it. I am enraptured. On my skin it launches with a huge hit of bitter citrus and sharp Pandanus. It feels earthy, herbaceous and makes an opening that any green fragrance lover worth their salt would die for. Once it settles (about 30 minutes) it turns much sweeter and mellows into a gentle, honeyed floral bolstered by tropical foliage. It's a journey, I won't lie, but my oh my what a journey. THAT DRY DOWN! It's nothing short of beautiful. Definitely unisex, with moderate to long lasting performance and moderate silage.

It's taken me a while to fully appreciate how good this is. Fragrantica under "main accords" does note violet. Yes, I'm getting that now. It's reminding me of one of my top 5 fragrances, Guerlain Lupin Dandy, which has this great violet note. It has a dark woody depth with sandalwood and patchouli. It's not a very dark Oud as some other Areej. But it does have depth and richness in the basenotes. I almost guessed that it has a touch of oud, but maybe not. It is also green and herbal, with very nice and unique florals. This is the best from the Attar collection from what I heard and read. A great value for a fine Areej le Doré at under $200. A chypre that stands with some of the best. I can see how some think it has some similarity to Grandenia, but they are different enough that both are worth owning or sampling. I feel lucky to have two of the sample sets so I can try them for several days before weighing in. This one can be worn anywhere and any season. Many of Russian Adam's earlier fragrances are too beastly for most public places and certainly not in the workplace. I would be happy to wear this to work. It is going to be hard to pick 2 or 3 of the best of this collection --except Le Mitti which is a very weak fragrance overall. Beauty and the Beast is still my favorite.

holy...this is so unique and good. starts off a little bright and sharp due to the big dose of bergamot but the pandanus (pandan leaf) note is amazing holy, mixed with that woody, slightly incensy vetiver and patchouli makes it smell so special, dries down to a mossy-chypre base with some cedarwood and iris. a true unique take on a modern green chypre! you can really pickup the quality ingredients used in this, i promise that you have never smelt anything like this before...

Bought a full bottle of Al Majmua after sampling all from the latest range of RA's gems. It is the most versatile and yet exquisite perfume among the set and I can wear it for most occasions. Definitely not the mass appeal designer genre and yet so easy to wear with confidence. Clean vetiver, powdery iris and earthy oakmoss are the 3 prominent notes to my nose. I simply love it. 10/10

I wrote a review earlier, but now first time wearing it in Summer heat. I have a big collection of Areej. Russian Adam is my favorite perfumer. I just want to let you guys know, I think this is my #1 Areej for Summer. It's green, fresh, and it has depth and complexity. I get violet more than Iris. One if the very best Areej fragrances not yet sold out. God bless...

One of the best smelling Chypre's I've ever smelled. Russian Adam said he used the best smelling Majmua Attar he'd ever smelled in this composition and that mixed with the black currant and vetiver, etc. has created a magical fragrance that is a must have in my collection. Brilliant work by Russian Adam!

Obviously I didnt know what majmua is, and even after googling it was quite vague. Then reading the reviews made me think it was gonna be predominantly green and somewhat floral, with an underlying earthy tone. None of it made sense when I actually tried the perfume. If you're uncultured like me and you dont know what majmua is, dont bother reading the descriptive reviews below -- they're not of any help. So instead I will describe the 'vibe' of this perfume: imagine a spiritual gathering where people are meditating. No smoke, no incense. Just people meditating in an open wooden structure, surrounded by nature. Surprised no one mentioned the meditative nature of this fragrance, I mean, thats what majmua is actually used for. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience, but it's not something I'd want to wear regularly. It feels like a special occasion fragrance, or maybe when you want to wind down and relax.

Al Majmua has me torn. As it dries, it is the most beautiful pastel violet. The colors in the fragrantica accord breakdown are accurate to me. A beautiful aromatic, powdery pastel violet. Slightly sweet, but not overwhelming However, the opening is so sharp and astringent, I'm not crazy about it. If you can get past the first 5 minutes, this fragrance really sings. I feel like the eau de Parfum concentration really contributed to the sharp, diffusive aspect of the top notes. I wish this was an extrait, for a bit more depth, longevity, and less projection Overall, I am a big fan and am excited to wear it more. Perhaps I will adjust to the opening, which does remind me of a household cleanser

One of the most versatile fragrances from the house, can be worn in pretty much every scenario. There are hints of Musk Lave here but it's still different enough to warrant a separate purchase especially if you are a fan of the chypre genre. Performance is moderate here compared to previous releases but time will tell to see if this gets any stronger. After 3 years of maceration, the performance has massively improved.

This one is difficult to describe though I remember smelling this in Indian perfume oils and incense. Green with an undercurrent of skank and something sweet and warm. I find this reminiscent of classic chypres with a distinctive Indian character. The most interesting of this collection I think.

To me it’s dominantly violet more than iris, it basically smells the way those violet flavored pastilles taste but a little dirtier/earthy. You only get a minute or two of the bergamot and current at the very begging then it’s gone. Projection is mild, longevity is better than average. Fairly linear after the opening. The high price is reflective of the rarity and price of the natural flower notes, but not really its strength and performance.

A beautiful green citrusy opening that reminds me of Musk Lave and slightly of Russian Musk, but here the neroli of Russian Musk is replaced by a green fruity Blackcurrant that gives me a feeling of a more natural take on Puredistance Aenotus. The kewra adds an interesting green sweetness as well. There is an iris accord that I believe was used in Musk Lave, it adds a similar candied sweet note that was present in Musk Lave. The opening is my favorite part of the fragrance, I feel that the drydown lacks complexity, I can detect Ruh Khus (Indian Vetiver) but not in the traditional bold way, it feels like a very polite take on Ruh Khus, what I mostly get is a sandalwood and oakmoss combination along with a fizzy green accord that reminds me of Atlantic Ambergris, it has a green note that slightly reminds me of violet leaf and a fizzy musky accord. It can feel redundant if you already have Musk Lave, but the opening makes it full-bottle worthy for me.

Not at all like Musk Lave. It is first and foremost a green type fragrance that is closely related to Siberian & russian Musks. Yes it has 1 element that was used in Musk Lave, but it would be the same thing as to say that all rose fragrances are about the same and redundant. Opening is the best part as you will get this intense green, velvety, mossy, bitter, prickly fizzy smell that makes this one stand alongside the most amazing chypres of all time. I dont even want to break it down by notes. What a delight. Unfortunately this stage fades after 20 mins or so, and things mellow down. You will still get quality chypre with noticeable patchouli that might make some link it to Grandenia, but once again, it is its own thing. Easy to wear, easy to love perfume that harks back to his older creations. If you enjoyed his green musks but they were a bit too spicy for you, give Al Majmua a shot.

This isn’t doing it for me. Mostly just smells like a soily Zoologist fragrance. I’d much rather wear a Le Labo like Vetiver or Patchouli. I really don’t care about how high quality the ingredients are that Russian Adam uses, if the fragrance doesn’t smell good there is no point to creating it. I don’t buy the Areej Le Dore hype. Most of what I have smelled from him are not good, there is just this hipster following of people who buy whatever he puts out regardless of how good or bad it smells because they are wowed by his price point. Sorry, but I don’t care how expensive the ingredients are if they don’t end up creating pleasant accords. I can rub beluga caviar all over myself and feel all egotistical and superior because I’m wearing something so expensive, but ultimately no one is going to be impressed. They probably just think I’m a weirdo.

I’m beginning to believe after sampling hundreds of fragrances from the so called very best houses that Russian Adam is a unique freak of nature. A man that had no formal training in the Art of Perfumery’ & yet he consistently produces works of Art that blow most other houses out of the park. Maybe the only exception to this would be Le Lion” from Chanel’ which is totally Luxuriant’ Beauty with Claws

Lemony forest green, in the style of both Grandenia and Russian Musk. Musk Lave's thick iris accord is also very much present. Rosemary, lemon, dewy vetiver, deer musk are prominent notes for me. Lovers of the three aforementioned scents or green chypres in general should sample this one.

Just received my bottle & I love it. It does share some similarities with Russian Musk in its greenness but without the musk. It truly is a modern take on a Chypre & is very unique in its genre. For the price it’s a no brainer. ❤️

I'm sorry but I don't even see the perfumer here I like. Light version of ML? No it's another perfume for me and in any case I prefer the origins not what it's doing.
