Al Oud

Initial impression - Opening has this somewhat marshy, hamster cage wood shaving smell. Like a dank wooden chest. After a few hours, the chest opens and reveals a dry down to one of the best, cleanest, slightly powdery Hindi ouds I've got my nose on. The drydown in Al Oud reminds me of the opening in Frederic Malle Dawn. Still smelling it as a skin scent after 12 hours. It's addictive. Perfect for an oud lover.

I’ve bought the collection blindly and this is the only one I liked. It is an excellent oud scent and feels like I’m applying oud oil, but with an atomizer. I will mainly use this to layer as it will give me a great base. Not for those who dislike oud. Anyone who is inexperienced in oud should test before purchasing if they can. Edit: be careful when applying it can stain

It's a pure blessing for Hindi Oud lovers. With complete transitions, complexities , nuances and quality smoothness. It's an Oud oil experience in perfume form.

Not much new to say but I will take what I agree with from others and reiterate those pieces here. Indeed an oud lovers dream. Its nearly pure oud, the scent is woody, a little smokey with just a touch of bergamot but that touch adds to the composition. On the flip side the comment about being similar to ajmal ouds is an oversimplication. Its similar in that its nearly pure oud however, the quality is better. I have tried Ajmal shams, Ajmal qadeem. Al Oud has less of of the blue cheese and barn yard than those. The only thing that tried I have tried that eclipses this in quality is Kalakasi Oud by Abdul Samad Al Qurashi. Its incrementally cleaner but at a much higher price. Therefore for the pure oud lovers this just might be the practical pinnacle.

If you like this, I recommend Bortnikoff Lao Oud, it does the same underlying character but adds more dimension to the scent of pure oud.

My god the opening, what a punch in the face ! Barnyard to the fullest. Sour milk & cheese lying on a big pile of shit in a farm full with dirty cows on a sweaty summer day, it’s so hot that it‘s even getting smoky. This must probably be a really animalic hindi oud that has been traditionally distilled with lots of funky notes. Somewhere in between I can detect some of the plantation kinam & cambodian oud with their bitter-nutty-oudy woodiness & sweetness in the background, but sadly the Assam dominates for too long. Only in the late drydown they show themselves more, make everything softer with a musky sweetness & some leather. Overall it captured the Assam region & general theme with arabian heritage brilliantly, but it’s not my oud style. Too dirty for too long. 5/10. But whoever likes some bold oldschool animalic hindi oud could go for it ! To me it has absolutely nothing in common with Oud Taiwan or any synthetics Jinx mentioned - for Frederic, artisanal perfumer from Nebiru Parfvms neither. I would say even Al Ambar is closer to Oud Taiwan than Al Oud.

Can't wait to test this.... Update: This is a magnificent Oud after getting pass the first 30-45 minutes. The blend is very opulent, smooth, earthy, woody, warmth resinous and the smokiness is top notch.

This is for the genuine oud lovers, Cambodian oud will take your nostrils in a journey!

A blend of old oud oils with an earthy and woody scent
