Antiquity

Update: 10 months later, I'm amazed afresh as to what a masterpiece this is. My small decant is giving me over 10 wearings. It's dark and brooding, but the peach, angelica and aldehydes bring a beautiful balance. I was able to purchase a 1.5 ml of Antiquity. Instead of buying the Mona Lisa, I paid for a ticket to the museum, sort of speak. I'm wearing for the second time now. There is a special note or accord here that is exceptionally beautiful. It may be the carnation! I have smelled a few great carnation notes, such as in Guerlain Derby. But this one is in another league. It brought Russian Adam to tears, he said. It is a leathery Areej oud. A very creamy smooth and wearable leather. Reminding me of vintage Hermes Bel Ami in that sense. It is more wearable and "nice" compared to War and Peace II. It's smooth and dark. It's very well blended. It does remind me of a vintage Guerlain Mitsouko extrait in some sense. It's been carefully blended. Great job Adam. None of the notes distinctly jump out at you. The oakmoss and oud are surely there. It's hard to pick out the Angelica. It's even a stretch to pick out the peach in the open, it comes in later. Just a slight fruitiness, and greenness from those notes. The hint of peach does lift and brighten some of the intense darker notes. It's like smelling the peach skin, and just a hint of the fruit. The natural musk is strong, but very smooth and well blended into accords. It's has a beautiful smooth woodiness. I would guess sandalwood, but more likely oud and patchouli. .I don't get aldehydes at all. As of the votes for the notes here on fragrantica: I think the peach should be lower, and the oskmoss and carnation higher. It's beautifully dark as some other Areej I mentioned, but this is rounded with a welcome freshness as well. Yeah, so it's great. I'm really glad I tried it. Yet a vintage shaker bottle of Hermes Bel Ami, and a Guerlain Mitsouko Extrait, and you have most of what Antiquity is. It is a close second to my favorite Areej, Siberian Musk. This is so good indeed! A slight knock to it's masterpiece status: From the later mid to dry down, it becomes a very strong musk and Oakmoss accord. It's still nice at that point; but not exceptional as compared to other Areej le Dores. PS: Wearing an older version of Roja Diagalev today, reminding me of Antiquity. Rating: 10/10 God bless you. A heavenly delight for a late-coming believer like me to Areej Le Doré's feats, Antiquity gathers dust, powder, a bit of leather, and dry amber to create a retrograde scent profile that reaffirms vintage-perfume love affairs while also initiating oud aficionados into a more cinematic, instead of holy, universe. Peach, musk, patchouli, and leather are particularly strong, reminding me of a nice jacket, found in an attic, maybe slightly marred by mothballs. There's nothing sweet nor fresh about Antiquity, unsurprisingly, and the large billowy cloud of aldehydes that settles into clove-like floral pageantry never strays too far from this perfume's animalic base, which is a clever rendition of herbal talc and dated newspapers instead of bodily secretions. For those with a library-like knowledge of perfumes, they'd probably be able to say what Antiquity most closely resembles (I was told Rochas Femme, which made me scurry to buy a decant to later be slightly dismayed at the similarity without likeness...). There's not much more to say, as whatever praise I might heap on ALD's Antiquity might inadvertently raise its stock even higher than the astronomical prices this is fetching on Ebay and Mercari.

Ahhhh man this is so good. Imagine if you will the most supple brown leather that it could be the inside of a very expensive luxury car. Add chocolate patchouli and bergamot and then wrap the supple brown leather chocolate infused citrus with a heavenly pure carnation accord. Like it was just plucked from within heavens gate and brought to earth for mortal men to enjoy. And then add the most beautiful Cambodian oud accord with it's multifaceted woodsy and slightly sweet caramel accord for the drydown. Add a few drops of musk and you have a concoction to die for. I love this juice! Well from two sprays of Antiquity I get all day longevity from 10am to 2am and even in the morning I could smell the basenotes. The projection though not stellar is better than the other three on my skin. So that 30ml bottle is going to last some time. I have to say I have never worn a scent that has given me such a buzz and has had me walking around all day on cloud nine. Absolutely amazing smelling masterpiece!

Un profumo magico, ti trasporta direttamente agli anni d'oro della profumeria. Un pezzo da non perdere assolutamente!! Da quando ho ricevuto la mia bottiglia lo annuso almeno 3 o 4 volte al giorno da essa, è come una droga, al secondo fiuto da assuefazione!! Senza dubbio uno dei miei pezzi migliori, con ingredienti di eccelsa qualità! Longevità intorno alle 20 ore più o meno sulla mia pelle, sui vestiti arriva facilmente a 1 settimana! Sillage moderato, secondo me è anche un punto a suo favore considerando la particolarità e la complessità del profumo stesso, sicuramente non un profumo per tutti, ma per veri appassionati! Sicuramente molte persone "fuori dal giro" potrebbero non apprezzarlo, ma del resto se si vuole compiacere gli altri non si acquista un profumo di nicchia come questo, questo è per se stessi, per un piacere personale!!!! E non delude affatto. Peccato sia già sold out, avrei preso un altra bottiglia volentieri. 10/10 sotto ogni aspetto.

I wanted this after being drawn in with the idea of wearing something that will be hard if not impossible to make again and so is very unique. It does fit the bill in terms of ingredients, but not quite in scent as something like Cuir de Russie does a similar style. It has a slightly animalic tone, a bit leathery, aldehydic and patchouli lead floral (to my nose), I do occasionally get wafts of the darker carnation in there but it comes and goes. This one is cool to pick apart as you get different things each time you wear it, with some facets stronger than others depending on your skin that day and the temperature in the air.
