Oud Luwak

In the opening, you get full-on burning agarwood. It's like a fresh piece of resin-heavy wood had been thrown on a white coal vs. the subtlety of an electric burner. When I initially wore this fragrance, the agarwood smoke was shocking; I was not expecting that experience in a perfume. My nose quickly acclimated to it and now the opening is quite intriguing...very few fragrances in the world offer the unique experience of burning agarwood, especially in western-style perfumes. Here, the smoke accord comes from real sinking grade Sumatran agarwood...something special that even few perfume and Oud nerds get to experience. This incensiness hovers beautifully over and perfectly compliments the other notes throughout the wear, as I will explain more in-depth. For me the Sumatran agarwood smoke is the olfactory equivalent of Rob Halford decked out in spiked leathers, riding through the southeast asian jungle, full-throttle on a Harley. This is bad boy juice lol. In addition to the smoke, I get a smooth, black coffee note emerging from underneath. When the coffee and smoke notes combine note they create a "fragrant steam hovering above a hot cup of coffee" accord. Soon after, The Maroke Oud oil appears independently from the smoke. To me, this is the most powerful representation of Oud Adam has offered in one of his compositions. Specifically, I can perceive the individual notes of the Maroke Noir oil independently from the other components of the fragrance. This initially presents a dark, jungly-spicy resinousness, which turns into a very dry, oudy-spiciness. After a while, the Oud Picante DNA comes out with the sweet spiciness of the nard, nutmeg, (and the most satisfying) carrot seed. The benzoin begins to creep in creating a sugared black coffee grounds and spice accord. Then, the benzoin kicked it into high gear, turning this fragrance into a decadent cafe au lait. The cafe au lait accord was short lived and the composition stayed fairly dry. Towards the end of the wear, all of the components sweeten and a beautiful earthy vetiver emerges and almost dominates with a barely noticeable touch of cedar and Indian oud. Finally, the agarwood smoke changed as well, giving off the familiar tones of an almost exhausted piece of agarwood on a dying coal...sweet berried nuances with touches of ashy carbon from the once bubbling resins. What a treat for the perfume fan that has yet to experience artisan oud, or has never burned agarwood...this will open minds. For the oud nerd this would be a great departure from your daily swipe or the need for fumigating your clothes. This fragrance smells natural, has modest projection, and 14+ longevity. Excellent!

Everyone has weaknesses; mine - dark eyes and dark coffee..... and if you add a hint of oud to either, well you got a near damn perfection!..... OUD LUWAK opens with deep, rich, dark, roasted coffee note; accompanied by layers of spices and almost chocolatey sweetness. Probably my favourite part about the opening is that intoxicating smoky vibe, given the composition by sinking grade Sumatra agarwood chips infusion. The smokiness and the bitter facets of coffee create heady and unapologetically sexy aroma! OUD LUWAK doesn't change the whole lot on my skin throughout the life of fragrance. The initial heady blast of smoke and coffee become quieter and take a backseat in the later stages; giving lead to earthy vetiver, spices and heapings of oud - dry, incense laden Maroke; with cedar and boozy, sweet benzoin trailing closely behind. It is balsamic, smokey and resinous melange of deepest black shot through with tones of chocolatey brown, dark green and bronze; richly spiced and unmistakably masculine! I have never gotten the chance to smell Oud Zen and Oud Picante; but OUD LUWAK truly lives up to its legendary predecessor Russian Oud!

Wow! Boom. It's an amazing oud and coffee extravaganza. The oud bowls you over and then settles down. The coffee now comes into it's own. It's lovely dark coffee but I don't think espresso. There is a teeny touch of the animal about it but it's back behind the footlights and might just be a phantom. I'm not sure if it's the benzoin that brings this lovely creamy and soft quality. I have smelt jatamansi once before and I can just about detect it here. I do pick out the carrot seed note. The overall impression is of a rich, creamy, intense oud/coffee bomb. I'd guess the carrot seed stops the oud and coffee becoming too strong or harsh. A sort of calming influence. Further down the timeline and the coffee is indeed king of this scent. The oud sits behind. Good longevity and reasonable sillage in a cool temperature room.

My favourite from the new range. It has undertones of Oud Zen and Russian Oud except that it has a strong note of coffee and nutmeg which gives it an added darkness and mysteriousness that keeps you intrigued on every application. Russian Adam has shown again that his forté is oud and has used some natural ingredients that have rarely been used in fragrances before such as the luwak/civet coffee bean from the civet cat and the sinking Sumatra oud smoke infusion. My wife really enjoys the smell of this on me and surprisingly, my two daughters aged 3 and 7 really love it. If you like coffee and you like oud, then this one is a must-have. If you don't like dark fragrances, then avoid.

This right here is most likely my current favorite. Leads with a heavy and sharp, almost burnt, coffee aroma. It then opens up into an amazing symphony of warm oud, sweet benzoin that almost has a caramel or cola-like character to it, and rich, dark coffee. This is accompanied by a lovely smokiness, like you've thrown a log of agarwood on an open flame, crackling away deep into the night. It lasts a long time, inviting anyone within arm's reach to your luxurious, comforting and warm aura of fragrance. This is, in my opinion, one of the golden standards for perfumes. Especially oud-based ones.

This fragrance dances around the pure oud oil, with its dark, earthy, medicinal, smoky, masculine, balsamic and boozy overtones. The base is chocolaty and sweet on my skin probably from the benzoin and the vetiver. I do not get any dirty, animalic, funky barnyard nuance on my skin. I am sure that this fragrance will mature beautifully over time, which can be expected, because so many great natural materials have been used here. The fragrance has moderate longevity, sillage and projection on my skin.

I love this fragrance. This is just the most divine coffee and dark wood liquor. The Nutmeg provides the perfect little kick and the Vetiver adds a nutty bite. The whole thing is so unbelievably decadent that you would be excused for thinking it was an actual liquor for sipping rather than a perfume. So rich and dark like a bitter chocolate, yet sweet enough to make you salivate. The ultimate Oud and coffee gourmand experience.

بخات من الجميل و الغني عن التعريف لواك، يجمع بين ثلاثة أصناف من العود و القهوة "Kopi Luwak" وتكاد تكون افضل عطر بنكهة القهوة مر على انفي Sprays of beautiful and well-known luwak, combining three varieties of ouds and “Kopi Luwak” coffee, and it is almost the best coffee scented fragrance over my nose.

I never really get coffee from this, but I don't even care because it smells so natural, so intense, and so delightful. It smells very smoky-woods on my skin, with some definite projection in the beginning. It doesn't really evolve or change, but for some reason I cannot keep away from it.

Strong coffee opening - very photorealistic coffee top note. It then dries down into something with a good mix of oud and coffee. Slightly animalic. Having drank coffee luwak and rearing a luwak, I love the name of the perfume and its combination of the 2 notes. 10/10 for its creation!

I like this one better than Russian Oud. It's like Ambre Loup on steroids. Sharper, darker, more animalic, and longer lasting. I don't like a coffee note but this one works really well here. The note is so sharp, animalic, and acidic as to become something else.

Everybody knows the smoke & coffee steals the show, but the dry-down is another story worth mentioning! In that stage the oud shines almost on its own free of distractions, surprisingly green and smells just like a pure oud incense :o

Even as a coffee fragrance, it's definitely world-class—dark, smoky, and slightly musky, far more intoxicating than Intoxicated by Kilian!

Tarzan invites you for a coffee. Dress-code: Formal... The opening here is laud, quite pungent and a little bit chaotic... you can feel the natural materials used but at the beginning is not really pleasant. It is bitter coffee with some medicinal earthly nuances. Thanks god this mellows down pretty quickly. In the dry down the bitterness of the coffee is turned down, but still not a hint of sweetness, and the earthiness is mixed with some resinous feeling. Here it comes the Oud, in this case, Maroke, dark, earthy, a little bit medicinal and smoky. Not Indian oud to my nose, no animanlic, no barnyard nuances at all. What I can get also is a very nice rooty vetiver, compensated somehow with some spices, that could be the nutmeg. This starts like a bomb, but turn very fast in my case into a great, special, unique, dark and earthy skin scent. But sadly I am not very much into skin scents. I see this more for formal occasions, I do not think this will be well understood or perceived in a casual outfit for day to day situations... it does not smell like a perfume, so people could get confused by this aroma, that in the other hand, and talking just about my experience, will be kind of hard to be noticed by others... In this case, I am quite sure that this perfume will mature beautifully with time. Just let some air into the bottle and wait for the best. This will become more sweet and mellow, rounding this composition and softening some edges. You can expect this with such a great natural materials being used here. I have it due to a blind buy, many times the only option you have with Areej creations...)

The most popular of the fourth batch of Areej Le Dore offerings is a pretty straightforward Oriental gourmand with high quality natural ingredients. The perfume opens with notes of Oud and coffee that stay throughout its length of the stay. As it begins to settle down, one can detect slight spice gourmand notes such as nutmeg, jatamansi and carrot seeds. Finally upon complete settling, the coffee Oud remains with hints of cedar, vetiver and benzoin. The end product is a scent that is evocative of many of the slightly darker gourmand offerings of the past, most notably those of the Slumberhouse line. Unisex (masculine leaning) with moderate to strong longevity, sillage and projection with a linear development on skin. Nice but unexceptional. Enjoy!

If you enjoy astringent and confronting perfumes, then this is definitely for you! Test before you buy. I really tried to bear it but had to scrub it off after 20 minutes - it was a little petrol-like. Maybe I am not used to this style of oud, but I'm planning to try it out again in the future, as I would like to understand the natural ingredients a bit better. I don't think I could wear this, but I enjoy reading everyone else's experiences. Update: May 2019 - my sample has been sitting in a draw for about 5 months now and I decided to give it another go. I think it's macerated nicely. Although still strong, it's much more pleasant and a bit smoother - much easier to wear now with a lovely rounded dry drown. Nice!

This one, along with Oud Picante, have AMAZING backgrounds, though are unfortunately 'ruined' by the up front note, Oud Luwak being tarnished by the coffee. Not usually a fan of coffee, the smell or the drink, and so for me it doesn't work... Wonderful resiney-basey background, it's just that coffee. If you are a fan of coffee and natural oud scents, this might be for you... ***EDIT*** A few hours in, the coffee note burns off, and a smoke-resin takes the stage. Probs liking this more after a few hours in. Nice.

the start, like oud picante, is bombastic and quite abrasive. about 2 hours in, it calms down and is a lot more tolerable. mostly oud and resin, the coffee isn't all that potent, for mine. 6 or so hours in, the dry down is wonderful. the benzoin comes out and is just wonderful. if you're big on your loud and fierce ouds, this is basically what you're looking for. for me, i am not that hellbent on powerful ouds, so, it's a no for me...

Never thought coffee and Oud could be this much intoxicating.Coffee is very prominent note along with Oud.Again,It has some vibes of agar de noir without the violet notes.May be it both has same kind of Oud in it.Very realistic coffee and Oud blended well.

I like it.. Brilliant fragrance for the new stuff. Coffee note makes everything pop, that addicting bitterness light-medium roast with oud is very nice. it is just a little but too simple for me and not so much going on but overall it's balance is so nice you get addicted to smelling it. Again this is another Areej's prominent oud fragrance and not for everyone. But those that love natural oud will enjoy this one.

Smells like burnt coffee and wicker furniture.

Oud and coffee - I love them both and when I heard about this combo in Oud Luwak I was very excited. The initial blast is one that is spicy, deep and definitely animalic. I get coffee with musk and oud. I am very happy about the coffee note as it resembles a dry, roasted and rounded coffee note and is not the usual sickly sweet gourmand coffee note that is pervasive in coffee scents. For me the coffee note is also one that I would smell in a cup of coffee that was prepared from freshly roasted beans. The distinction I am making is that it is not the smell of freshly roasted coffee that would linger in a roastery, but rather the scent one would get from an actual cup of coffee when one is drinking it. Personally, I don't see any premium in using Kopi Luwak beans as I feel that this note could have been captured through the use of "traditionally-grown" beans grown on a plantation and eschewing the digestive tract of the civet cat. After an hour I get a beautiful aged and smoky oud, intertwined with gorgeous musky, animalic and leathery nuances. The coffee note definitely has stamina and quiets down a bit and gracefully makes way for the oud, musk and smoke. An hour and a half in a synergy between vetiver and the papua new guinea oud starts to shine, and shine proud, combining effortlessly with smoke and lingering coffee. The damp, wet, mossy and grassy personality of the Papua New Guinea oud is unmistakable and naturally complements the vetiver. Finally, all components retreat and the vetiver-oud synergy is left powering through with faint wisps of powdery musk and coffee, at the 2h mark. Throughout the fragrance journey this perfume has a joker - a mystical cola note that comes and goes, in and out - arriving to say hello and retreating - ever so often. It is pleasant, fizzy, and slightly sweet. This is a really well executed perfume in my opinion placing the oud and coffee at the centre stage with supporting animalics and vetiver. The transitions between the notes are seamless and I am definitely thinking about a full bottle purchase. The scent reminds me very much of a potent animalic creation of Sultan Pasha attars, called Inferno (albeit with the animalics dialed back, and a greater oud and vetiver emphasis).

An intoxicating and smoky coffee note hit my nose as soon as I sprayed Oud Luwak on my skin. The scent was sharp with a faint sourness to it that resembled dried coffee grounds fermenting but with a slightly fruity berry like undertone. The scent was quite pungent at first and slowly became more inviting and warm when the fragrance warmed up on my cooler than average skin. There was a dark inky aromatic nuance, probably from the Spikenard, in the Oud/coffee combo that was quite pleasing and making the scent easier to my nose. At that point, I had an image of a pot of thick dark potion bubbling slowly over a wood burning stove with splashes of the dark potion starting to caramelize on the firewood. The scent also reminded of something edible or in fact I had eaten before. It sort of reminded me of the aroma from those hot sand and sugar roasted chestnuts that we could find in some street corners during the cooler months in Hong Kong. The aroma was smoky, sweet, slightly woody and tarish. It was mysterious, dark and I felt that there had to be a lot more in the fragrance. As the scent continued to develop, I noticed notes of unidentifiable floral, greenery, burning resins, dry wood, petroleum and something burning intertwining and jumping back and forth. I think Oud Luwak would be perfect for the late Autumn and Winter months. Performance of the scent was very good with good projection and longevity. The scent was quite interesting but I personally found it a bit too smoky and dark to my taste in the first four hours. I would definitely wear it if the scent could start from its fourth hour when the smoky burnt scent became more mellow.

How would you imagine, a nearly 4 years old (or may be more) pure parfum oil having traces of solvent used for coffee absolute, smell like? If i haven't had this liquid gold with me, i wouldn't have known. This is seriously, liquid gold in a bottle which smells absolutely and utterly, divine. 4th Collection by Russian Genius is nothing short of marvel. If it were a collection of short stories, it would have won Pulitzer Prize that year. From riveting journey to Green Forest in Baikal Gris to a Floral Barbeque Musc goodness of Koh-i-Noor and that swirling maze of Roses in Malik-al-Taif. Among those, was Oud Luwak which is definitive dark coffee scent composed Indonesian Kopi Luwak with plethora of Wild Ouds. Not once or twice but every time i swipe this precious oil, i get that tingling sensation in my head. Amalgamation of different notes, comes together to create a mysteriously mind numbing aroma that is seductive but not sexy, powerful yet reserved, animalic without making you smell like a sheep. Being a coffee dominant scent, it never ventures into gourmand territory and stays into dark shadowy path leading to nothing but endless darkness. Finally, it is very pertinent to mention that Oud Luwak features a distinctive Chip Infusion technique with sinking Sumatran Oud along with a slightly fecal Hindi Oud and also wild Papua New Guinea oud which was also used in now iconic and legendary Russian Oud from 3rd Collection. Calling Oud Luwak, a masterpiece would be an understatement. All i will say is, it brings joy and peace whenever I put it on. Isn't it why we wear fragrances?

Opens with a beautiful blast of creamy, smooth, sweet slightly milky coffee with just a hint of this slightly funky, but resinous dark Oud. The coffee is gorgeous, it has like a latte feel due to the sweetness, the creamy smooth milkiness. The Oud is just playing a very distant supporting role, just binding the scent in the backbone, it's resinous slightly funky woodiness, though the scent is definitely wearable to the coffee being a very dominant note. The scent stays this warm sweet and smooth coffee, however in the dry down I got this tennis balls, slightly warm rubber car tyre sort of feel along with the coffee. Longevity is around 10 hours with a very good scent cloud, not quite excellent but nor is it moderate, it's very satisfactory. Parfüm kurudukça oud özelliği yoğunlaşıyor. İran havasını bire bir bir şekilde yansıtıyor. 10/7.5

Beautiful. Like my grandfather's fireplace after he threw in a big piece of oud. There is nothing else like it. Intoxicating from the top to the bottom. The coffee is more like chocolate on the dry down. Power oud and smokey incense oud at the base. This is an extrait so apply a little at a time. Not for everyone but if you want to rock an evening, this will do the trick. You will stand out in a mysterious way. Burned coffee, and bonfire style oud. It is a herbal coffee with bonfire style of oud (not the grilling that you find in Interlude Man by Amouage) as the coffee merges with tonka and brings up the sweetness mixed with herbs. It has anise, carrot seeds, rosemary, & nutmeg indeed. This is on the style of "Songe d'un Bois d'Ete" by Guerlain, & "Leather Oud" by Christian Dior but in a much better quality and new style but gives the same dark bitter vibes as the ones mentioned above. Excellent.

Adams finest creation except Koh-I-Noor IMO. A dark coffee dark chocolate vibe instantly pops up, then the magic happens a dark rich oud embraces it and it is stunning 10/10. Sidenote Adam might very well be the best active perfumer, it is a special kind of art in what he does.

Super sharp on the opening, and has that dominating intoxicating coffee note. I would definitely say not for everyone. Animalic
