Continuing my journey through the mythological world of Argos, I move from the sweet, decadent opulence of Triumph of Bacchus to a far more formidable challenge: Nemean Lion. This fragrance draws its inspiration from the first of Hercules' twelve labors—the slaying of the mythical beast whose impervious golden hide became the hero's signature armor. Having been thoroughly impressed by the sheer quality and blending of the house's flagship scent, I am curious to see how the brand translates a concept of untamed, animalic power and legendary struggle into a wearable composition. As the community buzz suggests a bold, leather-forward, and potentially challenging profile, the central question is whether the Nemean Lion roars with unique authority or simply falls short of its powerful mythical namesake. Let's get into it and find out. Opening: The opening is woody, animalic, and ambery. The primary notes I get are oud, labdanum, amber, and musk, with the oud and labdanum being the most prominent. Immediately after spraying, the nose is struck by the unmistakable character of natural oud; it is dark and woody, carrying the signature "barnyard" or fecal accord. While not quite approaching the intensity of something like Amouage Silver Oud, it certainly signals a serious, deep treatment of the note. Closely behind the oud is the labdanum, which imparts a warm, raw, and animalic leather quality to the initial phase. Up next is the amber and musk. The amber builds upon the warmth started by the labdanum, adding a resinous, balsamic depth to the opening. Lastly, the musk lingers in the background as a light, fuzzy accord that contributes a subtle animalic tone, though the core animalism is certainly driven by the labdanum. Dry Down: The dry down is woody, animalic, and aromatic. The primary notes I get are oud, labdanum, Mysore sandalwood, and pine, with the oud and labdanum remaining the strongest notes. The oud is still a major highlight, retaining the same intensely dark and woody accord; however, the initial "barnyard" character has been noticeably dialed back. Likewise, the labdanum still brings the same warm, animalic, and leathery accord, but it is now smoothed out and more reigned in. This is followed by the pine and Mysore sandalwood. The pine has emerged in the dry down as a distinctly noticeable aromatic accord. It is very natural and reminds one of the deep, natural aroma of fresh pine trees, or that "Christmas Tree" accord. Lastly, the Mysore sandalwood rounds out the dry down with an extra dose of woodiness, distinguished by its soft, velvety, and powdery nature. Performance: The initial projection within the first hour is extremely strong and effortlessly fills a room. The sillage matches that intensity with an overwhelmingly powerful scent trail. After several hours, the performance was largely unchanged. After about eight hours, the projection was still reaching out around six feet, and the scent trail remained easily noticeable. The fragrance ultimately provides an impressive longevity of over 12 hours before finally becoming a skin scent. When to Wear: Nemean Lion is undoubtedly a fall/winter fragrance, best suited for evening wear. Its dark, intense, and super-masculine profile makes it a highly suitable selection for special or formal occasions where a commanding presence is desired. However, for those same reasons, it is entirely unsuitable for casual settings and absolutely should not be considered for office environments. Blind Buy: As with most fragrances featuring strong, natural oud, Nemean Lion is not a safe blind buy. This type of profile will appeal only to a certain niche of connoisseurs, while others may find the animalic and barnyard facets challenging or even repulsive. However, if you are a dedicated lover of challenging, high-quality oud, this is definitely worth sampling. Final Verdict: In following the sweet opulence of Triumph of Bacchus, Nemean Lion faced the challenge of translating a mythical beast into a complex fragrance—and it succeeded masterfully. This is an uncompromising, intensely masculine scent built on the backbone of raw, natural oud and a sophisticated, animalic labdanum leather accord. While the initial "barnyard" intensity is striking, the dry down is elegantly refined by aromatic pine and creamy Mysore sandalwood. Performance is nothing short of exemplary, easily achieving "beast mode" status with overwhelming sillage and a phenomenal longevity exceeding 12 hours. Though its challenging profile means it will appeal to a niche audience, for aficionados of bold, dark, and luxuriously intense masculine scents, Nemean Lion is a magnificent and fully realized composition. As someone who is a part of that niche audience, I would gladly welcome this fragrance into my personal collection. I will be adding Nemean Lion to my list of fragrances to buy. *Update* This fragrance sticks to EVERYTHING. It's been two days now, and my shirt, desk, and bed all still immediately smell of Nemean Lion. This is, without a doubt, one of the strongest fragrances I've ever reviewed. *Second Update* It's been over a week, and the spots on my desk mat where my arms were resting when I wore this STILL smell like Nemean Lion; enough that it transfers to my arms when I put them there. Long has it been since a fragrance gave me such a visceral reaction, but this first creation in Argos' new series "The twelve labours of Hercules" resulted in literal goosebumps on its first wear!! Christian has taken the opportunity to work with new ingredients and the result (in my eyes) is a new King for the house 🦁 In the same way that Brivido Della Caccia floored me in the my early experience with Argos, this scent has reignited my adoration for the creative genius that goes into both the fragrances and the presentation. There is no denying that it takes a more seasoned nose to appreciate this offering - do not expect the mass-appeal of Triumph of Bacchus. What you can expect is the most exciting, dynamic and creative fragrance Christian has created to date... Unashamedly dark, masculine and brash - yet finessed and so rewarding! What strikes the first blow is a stunningly sour authentic oud, evoking imagery of being face to face with the beast itself! It sets the blood pumping and excites the nose... Bringing the citrus, pine and oakmoss with it. As the adrenalin kicks in and these top notes begin to settle, the battle turns and the beast succumbs - a rush of fresh, spicy notes strengthen its resolve. Coriander, pink peppercorn, sage and juniper blend effortlessly with a jasmine accord providing a soft yet animalic touch. And as the final blows are struck - with the beast drawing its dying breath - a soft musk envelops a base of amber, sandalwood and leather... The ferocity of that oud nothing but a remnant of its former self. If this is any indication for the creative freedom being brought to this new series, then I am going to need more shelf space (or one of those epic presentation boxes)! Speechless, 10/10, perfection... what else can I say ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nemean Lion is only for the mature fragrance connoisseurs. In the opening it does give off a very animalistic barnyard oud note, and as the dry down you get a pine sap scent. I love how masculine and elegant this fragrance is and Argos has never let me down absolutely one of my favorite's

Most masculine of the house. Pine, leather and animalic amber. Very strong. Probably the hardest to get a hold of in this house. Love it!

I noticed that reviews of Nemean Lion always start with "this isn't for everyone", and now that I've got it and I've had a test-wear, I'll try to explain why. Nemean Lion opens up with incredibly concentrated labdanum flower and a heavily musky and animalic oud. Then slowly a note starts to kind of creep up and something about it feels synthetic or industrial. I know it's the pine, although that wasn't obvious to me at first. It initially smelled kind of similar to industrial chemicals, almost like tar or glue, but after a minute it's clear that it's pine... ...However, it's not a fresh pine where it smells like pine needles, but rather it smells like heavily concentrated pine-sap and it has this very sappy smell which does fade away after some time, after which it'll be more apparent that it's pinewood. After 10-15 minutes of smelling it, I'm brought back to being a kid, where I'd go on medieval/viking-markets where people would dress up as a viking or townsfolk in the middle ages, cook food over the fire, the blacksmith would help you forge a knife and you'd have novelty traders and shops all over. There, you could usually buy lamb-pelts. And the smell of all the wooden buildings, the fire, as well as the animalic smell from the furs is very reminiscent of this. This is to say, the musk in this doesn't smell like castoreum or anal glands, but rather it smells like animal pelts you'd get at a medieval fair. To me, the oud is a bit heavy, to the point where it's kind of farty but not too farty, like... Oud has this weird tendency of sometimes just smelling like a damp log in a leather bag, and it often ruins a fragrance for me. this is luckily kept in check thanks to that smell of sap so it's one of the few oud-y ones that I can bare As it goes into the dry-down, it feels like the fragrance has gotten itself under control in a way, because the sandalwood starts to come more forward, along with the juniper, pink pepper, sage and coriander. And once you get past the introduction, it has a nice sage/pepper combination with sandalwood which is slightly animalic (like a rabbit pelt), but not so animalic that it smells bad. It's animalic, but doesn't smell like anal glands. So to be honest, the dry down is very pleasant as it's a great mix of sage, pink pepper, juniper berry and sandalwood with a teeny tiny bit of moss, but the opening can be quite challenging. I will note that the oud does get a bit too farty for me in the late-drydown (6 hours+) when the sage/pink pepper and juniper starts to fade. I guess when they say it's only for 'experienced noses', it means that it'll challenge you, because it is by no means a mass-appealing scent, because the smell feels kind of 'thick' by virtue of both the top and bottom notes being warm notes. I want to stress that when it gets to this point of being sage-y, juniper-y and peppery, there's a great body in here, but some may find it hard to appreciate it due tot he opening and late-dry down because it has this oud-y and animalic pine-sap smell without any major complementary fresh-notes to weigh out the dark oud, the animalics, or ambery notes, and to be fair, that might be what some people want.. Some may feel that it's lacking because of it, and some may feel that it's better for it. It's a fragrance that kind of kicked me in the stomach the second I sprayed it, and then I immediately thought "wow, that's not good at all!" and over the next 5 minutes, it changed and grew on me into something I could see myself enjoying, but I will forever be very cautious when wearing it, because it's blindingly obvious that it will offend some people's noses.

[decant/hand test] Roars on the box, purrs on the skin Pleasant and very wearable, but far less complex than the note breakdown suggests. Think a slightly brighter, cleaner, and more playful Falkar by Bvlgari - the DNA definitely feels shared (similar accords show up in Onekh, Ombre Nomade, and Nouveau Monde). Despite the absence of rose or patchouli in the official pyramid, I definitely pick up traces of both - subtly woven into the leathery/musky/oud-heavy accord. As for labdanum: it’s there, but not exactly dominant - more of a texture than a leading force. This isn’t the untamed myth the marketing promises. It’s zodiac Leo, not the Nemean Lion - bold, well-groomed, self-aware. A polished rebel for those who want a little edge without straying too far from the familiar, or the kind of man who wants danger in a bottle - but no more than carry-on size. Good opening and mid section. Linear overall. Could be perceived as expensive-smelling, with a pleasant but ultimately safe drydown. Unisex, though leaning masculine due to the leather/musk dominance. This lion wasn’t taken down on safari - it was designed, dosed, and measured with a sterile syringe in the lab. Despite the marketing BS, it’s well executed. Solid 7 in terms of mainstream, pleasant and wearable.

Undoubtedly masculine. Incredibly polarizing. Expertly composed. Artistry that I can appreciate. I'm bold enough to try this out on the general public, but instead will enjoy this composition on my own for most of my wearings. I've learned that with a well crafted perfume, top/middle/bottom notes mean absolutely nothing. And this is 1 of the fragrances I own where this is true. The oud is warm and soft here, but potent. No citruses at all to my nose. Labdanum/Oud/Amber stands out to me and stays throughout. No sweetness whatsoever from the amber here. I'm tempted to say that it's more like on the Styrax side of the game. I gets hints of the pine, oakmoss and juniper berry...in whaffs. This reminds me of Bvlgari Terrae Essence, with the earthiness/styrax angle. But this is smoother, warmer AND OUDY. I haven't fully gave this a days' wear, but can tell you this is a 7+ hour scent ON MY SKIN (and this judgment is made with one spray on the back of my hand), and it's pushing off. For now, I give this an 8/10. I reserve further judgment & expectation for a scoring bump until further notice. Job well done Christian!!

I definitely fell for the hype on this one. So many reviews (and the marketing) warning this is for experienced noses, and the feedback of the "poopy"-smelling oud being here still made me take the plunge and purchase this as a small celebration for having closed a big deal at work last month. When this arrived in the mail today I was nervous to open it thinking I was going to smell something like Amouage's Silver Oud (that one definitely smells like you stuck your hand in some manure) only to be pleasantly surprised that it is similar to Electimuss' "Octavian" or Pana Dora's "Grand Musk". In the end, I now have three very similar fragrances with very different and beautiful presentations. If I had to pick one of the three I would have to pick "Octavian" though. I am happy to have this in my collection but would likely not purchase again as you can get Octavian at a discounter for half the price I paid for Nemean Lion. Regardless, the bottle is gorgeous and having my name engraved at the back is a nice touch to celebrate a sale.

If a tree could have underarm sweat, they found it and put it in this bottle. It's either a very pungent musk or oak moss opening. I'm not sure. Past the funky musk are finer notes of pine, oud, and leather. It reminds me of a cold rainy night in the Fall. Like a pile of wet, fallen leaves. Abrasive to most. You can easily choke out your party as it is very strong. Would consider it to be more of an artistic piece. Would avoid public crowded settings. Very unique, haven't smelled anything else like it. Avid and adventurous collectors must have. Not a safe blind buy.

Pleasant animalic labdanum/ leather/oud, honestly not really that challenging to me like the idea certainly is but it feels quite tame in the end I doubt you will piss anybody off with this it don’t even have the projection for it but it does last you all day if you sniff your wrist so it lasts but it doesn’t sort of thing. Certainly one of the better and more memorable Argos scents to me they kind of begin to melt together and feel samey but this feels a slight bit refreshing

Just makes grade. Something here rises above mediocrity. A nice blend of amberous flowers and pungent oud mixed with a sandalwood accord. The oud note is strong but there's not enough of it to overpower the other addages. There's something regal, strong and upstanding about this manly funk, like the tree that lent it life. The fruity elements...there's a touch of stateless in the undertone. Still, it works.

There is nothing wrong with this perfume, it just feels too masculine for me so isn't for me. Would be a wonderful for a man.

Smells like shit lol but the bottle is cool I guess

It’s a very masculine fragrance that strongly projects. It is an unsafe blind buy. If you enjoy Smokey scents then this one may be for you. It’s similar to Le Lion from Chanel to me.
