Derby Club House Ascot

I was in Bergdoffs recently and went on a sniffing spree. I headed str8 towards the Amouages. After smelling everything available I was struck by Epic Man. Epic man is one of Amouages more formal fragrances that I fell in love with after applying it to my skin. A lot of Niche fragrances share a similar vibe but i find that Epic man stood out to me. Its an incense rich bomb that smells just beautiful. I just kept feeling as though Ive smelled it before. Then it hit me...It smells a little bit like Ascot. Ascot is very heavy on tobacco and thick dark Amber. It's everything I love...Its boldly masculine, dark, resinous, with lots of depth and density. It lasts for 9 hours on my skin with very strong sillage. What i truly love is its complexity. This is no high school kiddie frag. This scent is for a boss. To me the blending in this is very well done. It is a Eau De toilette but upon spraying you would swear it was an EDP. It has a depth that most EDTs don't have. A knock on it is it can be a 'hard to wear' scent as its not the most versatile. It's strictly a cold weather scent ( u could get away with it during the spring nights too) that doesn't fit a lot of occasions. This is definitely not a skeleton key fragrance. IMO versatility doesn't hurt fragrances just adds to them. So if a scent is versatile, that adds to its rating but I'd not take points from a fragrance because it's not. If it smells great, gets compliments and performs, even if its not versatile, it can still be a perfect scent to me (for example Terre De hermes Eau Tres Fraiche). I'd not say this is a perfect scent but its definitively a scent that will "WOW" some people. Simply Put... For the price you pay and the quality of this scent, it's a steal. 8/10- If u are a fan of Middle Eastern perfumery and want a scent which isn't heavy on OUD or just loves incense based fragrances this is a must try. Using 4 sprays to the chest, I get mostly a leather, on the soft side but with a little roughness (certainly not birch tar or anything like that). There is a musk that works well here, and while this is not a weak scent by any means, the projection is not strong (this isn't uncommon for EdPs, in my experience). However, people tell me they smell it clearly, so I think that's likely the musk mostly (the other notes don't seem strong other than the leather). The galbanum ("green notes") and fruit seem to come together to create an accord that's a bit odd, but not too distracting (perhaps the spice plays a role as well). This is not sweet or syrupy, there's no soapy/barbershop element, nor do I get iso e super overload or anything harsh/sharp. And while it moves around for half an hour or so, it then goes into a nice though simple leatheriness, which the other notes just support. There's a touch of amber, though it's slightly dry overall. At current prices (mine was $20 for 100 ml) it's a great buy for those who want this kind of scent; I certainly intend to keep my bottle. UPDATE: After 2 to 3 hours, the leatheriness becomes more like a leathery wood/incense, and while there certainly seem to be spices present, these are subdued. It reminds me of the drydown of TF's Ombre Leather now!

In the dry down it reminds me of Tabac cologne(Maurer & Wirtz) but a little darker. It has a mild projection for 2 hours and the longevity is 6 to 8 hours. The tobacco is the dominant note with some spices. I didn't detect any incense. It is a very well made tobacco blend with no sweetness.The price is excellent. This might be considered as an eau de toilette of Tabac cologne.

Middle Eastern. Heavy incense. Dark. Tobacco and cedar. Unique, interesting, masculine, alluring and addicting. I like to wear it to bed as it is soothing. Have not worn to work yet. When I first smelled it, I thought it was too sharp, but it has mellowed over a few months. Worth the wait. Love it.

Got it today for $10,This is classic very elegant mature type smell,on the opening I detect tobacco, oakmoss, and amber the dry down gets very musky on my skin I sprayed on my hand and it lasted decent 5 hours, projection i don't know yet. Will update after few more wearing.

Sweet, Ambery Wood. Sweet, fruity amber, mixed with a some tobacco, sweet cinnamon, harsh cloves, and a dash of green aquatic oakmoss. Sweet, ambery, fruity, spicy, tobacco. It is a classic smell. Something you would feel you've smelled before. The fruity accord is the maker or the breaker of the deal here, and to me it's a breaker. I would've liked this more had they went all woody/spicy and kept the fruity accord light. Still a very likeable scent. Does not smell like Amouage Epic Man to me. It does share similarity, though, with Davidoff Silver Shadow: sweet, spicy, ambery. More of a cool weather wear. Mature and masculine. Good for office. "Like"

It performs very well. Only in the late dry down around 5 hours after application I smell tobacco, to me that's the best part of this fragrance and that's when it actually resembles a bottled perfume. Even though incense note is not listed, it comes across as incense heavy on opening, to me this is very similar to how Indian temples would smell like. I bet I can smell camphor as well. The only time I enjoyed wearing this fragrance was on a winter camping night otherwise I just keep it for nostalgia's sake. Do buy this fragrance if you know you will spend a winter night staring at the skies and the wilderness, you will thoroughly enjoy it then.

smell like india. at my trip to india for 6 mounths i could smell this every where. its nice incence scent that last 10 hours on me and it changing all the time slowly. after 30 minutes the incence smell start to blend more and the amber join . after 4-5 hour its remind me of ambre oriental by jean paul dopunt ...not the same only a reminder..i didnt fell in love with this but its not bad and its very good quality the blending here are art. but try befor buy becouse to me it feels like a coultural scent of spices and temple. .... enjoy...

For the price, it is a really great fragrance. A heavy tinge of synthetic tobacco, amber and Musk. Opening mix of these with Citrus really smells strong and over-powering. And not in a nice way. Dry-down is comparatively better. Lasts morning to evening. No complains there. Though, not a hit among ladies - have been told so couple of times. Summary - You'll struggle to find a fragrance that delivers this decent quality and complexity, this enormous longetivity - at this low price. Do take a test before buying.

This scent is absolutely great for winters . Smells great when mixes with chilly gust of air outdoors . Its incensy and warm . This was the stuff i was looking for to wear in december january winters of india . I bought armaf craze along with it too. Thats awesome as well. Happy with the purchases for winters .

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but this wreaks of the 1980s. I just finished thee 3rd season of GLOW on Netflix and I can imagine Sam rocking this. Very bold and pungent. Spicy and musky with lots of oakmoss. I would have liked more amber to sweeten this up but that did not happen. Most reviews say it has a niche quality to it because most new scents only lasts a few hours and this one goes strong from 9 P.M- 6 A.M. easily. Def on the mature side.

This scent for me evokes definitive mixed feelings. It has the right blend of tobacco, amber and musk so as not to tip the scent as overtly sweet or overtly tobacco heavy. It has the right mix, however the longevity with me was shambolic, 2 to 3 hours and gone. Projection half hour max, 2015 batch.

This one just doesn't work on me smells to sharp.Test before purchasing.

What a mess! Can't believe I spent $25 on this. It's not even worth $5!

This was a huge disappointment for me. After having good luck with Armaf's CdNIM, seeing the notes, and reading the reviews, I thought Ascot could be a real winner for me. Wrong! If I didn't know for sure it was authentic (who's going to make a fake off a $25 EDT?), I'd think these reviews and fragrance pyramid were for a totally different juice than what I have. I think something weird happens to my nose when certain wood and musk chemicals are combined. I get an acrid scent, but no wood or musk. The same thing happened with Montale Oud Musk, but with that one, the acrid odor was overwhelming and I could smell nothing else. With Ascot, I don't smell ANY of the listed notes. I get a touch of that acrid odor for a bit, then a powdery scent with nasty florals that remind me of geranium. Yuck! No amber, wood, musk, citrus, or tobacco. Just nastiness. It's not my skin, either. I have the same problem if Ascot or Montale Oud Musk is on a cloth or any surface. This is bizarre, because musk and woods are two of my favorite notes, and I smell them fine in other formulations, so I'm sure it's down to a particular chemical combo. I get it for a bit when I mix Dark Rebel Rider with an 80s musk powerhouse I have for adding a hint of that warm, sensual touch to modern formulations, but it only lasts for a minute, then it settles down to quite a nice combo. This makes me wonder what I've been missing in other frags because out of hundreds I've tried, there are only a few that I can stand. I'm jealous of all of you who can smell this as intended, but since I wear fragrance primarily for my own satisfaction, this one won't get worn no matter how good it may smell to others. Does anyone else have similar issues? I know that anosmia is common for many musk chemicals. This could be a similar phenomenon. It literally feels almost painful, like the combo creates some kind of scent weapon for me. I especially notice it with cheap oud notes. I used to get a high quality oud incense that smelled wonderful, but it was several hundred dollars an ounce. I recently got an inexpensive oud incense that does the same thing as these unfortunate wood/musk combos. I wish I could figure this out. It makes no sense to me, since I have a pretty good nose relatives to most. Could this just be an extreme sensitivity? I tried diluting Montale Oud Musk 1:20 to see if that would help the musk develop since I know that many musk chemicals bloom when diluted, but no luck. Also, I've noticed a lot of the reviews here are "top of the bottle" impressions. I don't think I've ever owned a fragrance that was at it's best until it got some air in the bottle and the top notes mellowed out. Perfumers really know their science well, so they tend to go a little heavy on the more volatile components so that the character of the fragrance has longevity. I was hoping this one would mellow and be usable for me, so I didn't return it right away. Even after the bottle aired for a bit, I just get the same powdery/floral scent—it's just not masked as long anymore. Based on the nearly unanimous positive reviews, I'm sure this is a great fragrance for people who don't have my odd olfactory idiosyncrasies , so I'll be selling/trading a nearly-new bottle of this very soon unless it continues to age into something more pleasant. (It does get better as the bottle sits, and I'm even getting a hint of wood on a spot I sprayed a couple of hours ago, so maybe there's hope! It still has that nasty, powdery smell, though.) I may have to learn to create my own fragrances because I just can't seem to find what I'm wanting in the current market. The masterpiece by Bvlgari that had been my secret signature fragrance for decades has been discontinued, and, after a reformulation, it had lost most of its sublime base notes anyway. I guess I'll be looking for some gurus to help me create my own couture blends. Bottom line is, CdNIM and Dark Rebel Rider have been the only two blind bus that worked out for me, so I should learn my lesson! Try before you buy, but with this one the price of a bottle is not much more than a sample.

Sometimes you may come across a fragrance so inexpensive and yet so wonderful that you wonder why would someone spend a huge chunk of money on a niche brand that under performs? DCH ascot opening notes are slightly herbal notes of sage and nutmeg but quickly sattles into its dark base notes of musk and incense with some amber sweetness to it. Although tobacco is also listed in its basenotes but I didn't get any strong tobacco from it at any point. Some may categorized as barbershop fragrance similar to Davidoff zino. 3 to 4 sprays will easily last you 5 to 6 hours. It is mostly a casually evening winter fragrance but you can safely wear it to work without offending your coworkers.

Smells like Amouage Epic Man (i have both), but i cant update the Reminds Me of section. Why?? Yes a little different, but the tendency is more Epic than others. Truly a masterpiece blend. Cheap but smells expensive. Seems like im wearing this more frequent than Epic. Armaf is very good in copying niche smells and come out with just 1/10 of niche price. Im not afraid of telling this is Epic wannabe, coz i have both, and i praise Armaf for doing a good job. Why hypocrite??????

I like this as a personal perfume I wear for my own enjoyment. Initial heavy wave of cedar and sharp cloves. The cedar is wetter than Onyx Black and isolated. As it drys down I notice a more subtle sharp lemon / bergamot possibly cinnamon. Amber comes in waves. It's not really complex pretty flat but strong enough to give you confidence it's still working. For me great value if you want dark wintery accord. Couldn't locate the Tobacco I found it to sour for this.

Masculine powerful middle middle eastern scent. Yes absolutely an incense heavy smell with tobacco amber and musk. Heavy sillage and overwhelming projection. At this price the quality is top notch. The dry down is more suited for the summers. This can compete with any expensive amouage scent. I love it. A very different oriental sortish scent definitely more of an edp. Absolutely recommended. Armaf stable has some real surprises.

Not for everybody! I am 90kg, muscular, 39 years old. It's a mature man tobacco parfum for cooler days with great sillage and longevity 8+ hours on me with 3 sprays. Not for 20kg children with 10cm arms! Smokey, not sweet, dark incence frag. I agree: The One in steroids but not simmilar at all to DG The One! A bit reminds me the old TSAR. I love it!
