Inkcense Musky Moonlight 松烟黛墨 麝香月

An interesting fragrance. The opening is very intense, starting off with incense, but weirdly sour like an over-roasted coffee bean or burnt grass. It has an almost tart profile (but with no sweetness) with a hint of musk. I doubt many people would enjoy the opening. However this dies down relatively quick, and then it shifts to being more musk heavy and woody. the woody notes complement it well, whilst the incense that was so prominent before becomes quite subtle, a nice edge to the wood making it a little resinous and smoky and keeping the fragrance dark. The dry-down does feature a floral touch to lighten it up slightly, there also develops a nice sweetness but it comes across in a fruity spicy way like a date or prune. I would even say that the sweetness eventually surpasses the woody incense notes, mixing well with the musk. Initially I thought I was going to really dislike Musky Moonlight, but honestly its grown on me. Its an elegant scent that although the name, is surprisingly well balanced. A good fragrance for winter or fall, but also versatile enough for a warm summer night (especially date night). HOWEVER for the retail price, Inkcense Musky Moonlight is simply not worth buying, Although a really good scent, circa $185 for 50ml for a perfume like this is too much in my opinion. The performance is nothing to write home about either, it lasts for 6 hours or so, but its projection is not very large and it devolves into an intimate level of projection after an hour or so. So although I enjoy the drydown of Musky Moonlight, I wouldn't really recommend unless you really enjoy the fragrance and have some bank to spend. Frankincense and rock rose central, not getting much else from this. I need to sample this a bit more, but it feels really flat and one-dimensional to me right now.

Slightly tart/sour, musky, dark, piney and resinous without a hint of sweetness. I don't know who placed the ariana grande scents as similar, I thought those were supposed to be mass appealing sweet scents? This is not that lol. Gonna have to try this out for a while to see if it's actually wearable or if I can at least grow to like it enough to not care. Ok so the challenging part on this is mostly the opening, which comes off as some sort of sour/savory dish and is very very pungent. Once it dries down however it becomes a pine forward dark musky incense, again there is nothing sweet about this perfume but the dry down is nowhere near as challenging as the initial spray. If this was easy to get stateside I could see it being really popular with people who like "goth" fragrances.
