Choco Oud

Oud and dark chocolate right from the start. The oud is a little more on the funky and earthy side and mixes really well with the dark and more natural smelling chocolate; I think the oud and chocolate mix together to give this an, almost, soil-like accord. This is not as sweet as I was expecting but I love that about it, if it were too sweet I fell like I wouldn’t like it. The jasmine is just slightly indolic, bolstering the more funky side of the oud, while the honey warms up the naturally sweet floral nuances of the jasmine. As it dries the jammy rose is more prominent, and the chocolate becomes more and more decadent.

The single best chocolate based fragrance on this earth! This starts out with the Chocolate Cake and Butter Accords for me....it lulls you into gourmand safety for a few seconds and then it starts to come up...like a siren in the sea...The beautiful ambergris and the seductive Oud urge you to draw closer...not just sniff but inhale and hold close this elixir. It will draw attention.

A must try if you're sampling the house, easy to wear but not something you've smelled before!

First wearing of Aromas de Salazar Choco Oud, a floral-forward mix of the two eponymous notes, chocolate and oud, slightly animalic, with jasmine sambac and rose. It’s a curious mix, leans slightly feminine, and is well-executed, a sort of floral gourmand with a bit of a spicy animalic edge. I don’t find the chocolate or oud to be specifically prominent but the animalic side suggests that the oud is there, and I don’t get the floral notes very specifically, but rather a dark blend, making it seem more appropriate for the evening. Choco Oud is among the older and more modestly priced offerings of the house, at $150 for 50ml, in parfum concentration, and performs very well, like most of the catalogue. While it does not match my personal tastes, it’s nicely done and quite interesting. 7 out of 10

Opens with a heavy coconut chocolate blast but also with something harshly synthetic (ozonic?) and a hint of sharp florals on the side. Chocolate, coconut and the sharp synthetics fade a bit and florals become more prominent over time. I like my gourmands without any sharp edges, and am not very fond of florals, so this is not to my personal taste.

this is ambergris I can wear! I agree with the reviewer below me about the butter notes hitting first, those moments of wait is this gonna be too gourmand buttery? And then it melts into a what I would say is a cocoa butter chocolate or even a coconut chocolate which can almost smell peachy for a split second as a combo together. This one is very interesting because it is simple but totally isn’t. There’s so many interesting things going on, it’s kind of like when you purchase a mini chocolate set that is sourced from different countries in South America and you get to pick out the nuances of each one depending on your interpretation of fruity and floral nuances. This is a wonderful chocolate perfume that deserves a few good wears before you start to understand it and figure it out. Would wear great in any season.

This is a well-behaved oud. Very smooth. An oud for someone who's nervous about oud. The chocolate isn't heavy either. Actually, getting quite a lot of the butter. But it's not greasy or curdled. It's a buttery roundness like a scoop of cookie dough. After the first couple hours, it's sitting close to the skin.

A very realistic chocolate smell that I've had the pleasure of sampling. Also very present is the butter note. This fragrance is like a slice of chocolate cake, slathered with butter. The drydown is like a chocolatey version of MDCI Chypre Palatin's drydown. I'd label this a gourmand chypre.
