Peau

Wow definitely smells like a second skin. Very musky. There is an initial peppery blast that fades down after the first 5 minutes. I own JHAG superdose, Cycle 001, Molecule 01. None of them come close to the musk used in this one. Out of all the ones listed, this one is the least subtle, in the manner that it is very noticeable after 1 spray. 2 sprays and you're set for the day. It does not take time to warm up on the skin like the others. Powerful stuff. Of all the ones I have, this one is the only one that has a sliver of animalic nature to it, just to give it a very realistic skin scent characteristic to it. Not bad breath or fecal dirty at all. Again, not an unbearable animalic based fragrance. For me, I give this a 5/5 for what it is trying to accomplish. If there is a subtle perfume that is pillowy creamy with a hint of semisweetness, this is it. It REALLY REALLY smells like a sexy natural scent. Very seductive. Id use it in the bedroom but I’d wager it’s worksafe. This isnt like a traditional perfume. Subtle but has lasting power. Projects elbow length but sillage is arms length. Lasts on me for 10+ hours. This is by far the most seductive perfume I have in my entire collection of 144 perfumes as of now. Architect's club is a close second. This house has not yet failed to amaze me. 100% unisex.

As someone who grew up in an Asian household, white pepper has a special place in my heart and I don’t find it much (ever?) in the fragrance community. I always loved the taste of white pepper. But it admittedly also made me think of a slightly stinky person kind of like with cumin. Not like full on BO, but just a little musty. Weirdly it’s that white pepper “stink” that makes Peau feel very human and intimate and probably the closest to a real skin scent that I can imagine. I hope that doesn’t give the wrong impression because I really love this fragrance. But it’s because of how close it gets to being skin-like, and not skin-enhancing or altering to the point where it’s weird or unfamiliar. I’m not a big fan of molecular scents generally (Another 13 goes from being tolerable to pissing me off) but this does have some similarities to Not a Perfume in the drydown, and it works for me. Anyway, when I smell this it really evokes a comforting, emotionally mature man haha. Like a man who isn’t worried about pretense and trying to be something he isn’t. I’m not saying it’s a traditionally masculine fragrance, but I just get manly vibes I get when I smell this.

This is such a fascinating blend of paradoxes: a warm, soft, delicate, musky amber with a chilly, prickly, salty, animalic bite—intimate yet aloof, melancholy yet sexy, clean yet feral. It’s the olfactory equivalent of Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own.” It’s exactly how I would want a perfume to express Hadrian’s longing for his drowned lover: I picture him lying in bed, where he can still smell Antinous’s, uh, residue on the sheets, while a cool breeze from an open window reminds him that his beloved will never return. When I wear this, I want to weep, and I want to jump someone’s bones—ideally, at the same time. A more accurate (and more pretentious) name for this fragrance might have been Glukupikron, as Anne Carson transliterates Sappho’s word γλυκύπικρον (“sweetbitter”) in Eros the Bittersweet: the sweetness of erotic desire gives way to the bitterness of loss. You could also call Peau, in cruder terms, the scent of post-nut clarity.

Somewhat animalic, like freshly washed armpits. Opens with a peppery herbal note that quickly transforms into straight up ambergris and freshly cut wood boards. Not the whole tree, no greenness, just heartwood and wood chips, and the light scent of white oak in a woodworking shop. Slight leather notes apparent after 4-5 hours. Does not change much after that initial opening note fades. Raw sexiness. Somewhat unisex, but leans masculine. Does not smell like a “perfume”. Lasts 8 hours+, with a moderate sillage that is very apparent at normal conversational distance. Whoever is next to you will want to get closer. UPDATE: This reminds me of Maison Violet Cycle 001. Cycle 001 is a cold-blooded lizard, while Peau is a warm-blooded furry beast. Peau is much more beautiful in my opinion, but both are very unique and interesting.

(37/♂) Potent musk blended perfectly with salt-and-pepper ambergris and dry incense. Out of hundreds of fragrances I've tried, this one's on my top "couldn't be without" list. References to "Another 13" are due to the musk, but I think the comparisons end there. To me Peau is austere, dramatic, maybe a bit goth but not in a loud way Wearing it, I feel like I'm part of a story. Something important is going to happen to me, or for me to witness. It often gives me this feeling of grounded quietude and self-assuredness. I feel great wearing it, and I reserve it for when something ineffable inside me tells me that it's the correct time. For what it's worth, this is one of the few perfumes I've worn that compelled a complete stranger to follow a complement by pointedly asking me what I was wearing!

I adore this scent. It gives me very strong Juliette Has A Gun - Not A Perfume vibes, as well as Hermetica - Source 1. The musky warmth is alluring and I find this type of scent far sexier than the gourmand sweet scents that most people would describe as 'sexy'. This is such a mysterious and intriguing scent, and anyone wearing this would immediately turn my head and possibly have me following them down the aisles of a grocery store to catch another whiff. Upon immediate application the scent is quite sharp and astringent, but with a musky edge, but as it dries and settles into the skin it develops a powdery greenness. As that settles even deeper, a softly intimate dewy skin and spice smell starts to round out the experience. Totally a keeper!

put this on my wrist before sleep, and didn’t get much of anything at first. as i laid in bed i realized i had become a gisant, arms crossed over my chest bathed in a faint church crypt-like smell (romantic), a mossy wet forgotten statue of someone long gone. the scent of wilted flowers lingers about and sweetens the mildewy air. this reminds me a bit of oriza legrand’s relique d’amour middle+ base notes, if it made your skin turn to stone. skin scent, as suggested by the name; very intimate. so much so that i could not tell what was me and what was the perfume in the opening. the biggest mystery is why the etiket SA pointed me to this when i asked if they had any non gourmand lactonics. i wonder if he is gargoyle.

I just can't get it out of my head- it's been almost a year now. I've tried to convince myself that I already own enough skin scents like this, yet none of them quite capture what Peau does. I even settled for a travel size, hoping it would be enough. It wasn't. Every spray still takes me back to that sweltering afternoon in Florence, when I unexpectedly found it in a tiny Italian perfume shop. Let's just say it works best in the summer, the hotter the heat wave the better, in colder weather it becomes completely uninteresting on me. But in summer! The subtle notes linger throughout the day, bringing a cooling freshness, and OMG the harmony of black pepper, musk, and amber is simply perfect.

Opening is an upbeat ambery scent. There’s something deeper here that makes it more interesting than similar fragrances, a grounding aromatic depth from the clary sage. Warming. A floral quality, too, but whispering in the background. Intimate. There’s a sense of nostalgia here, or loss, a looking back at something past and gorgeous. A simple humanness, lost in thought. Remembered warmth. A song of experience, a clarity. It’s melancholic, in a way. On the air, its effervescent, a high note; on the skin is where its depth is revealed, the sense of loss it carries. I’ve never encountered anything quite like this fragrance. Perfection.

Peau - Arquiste: It's light and warm and seductive and fresh. I love the musky amber combined with the spicy woodiness I find when it settles down a bit, it smells clean and luxurious. A wonderful unisex fragrance that I get 10-12+ hours of performance. Projection is moderate and I find it does trail a slight bit, not huge, but just enough to get noticed in closer quarters. It's fantastic, I love wearing it and I think I'm the best smelling person in my office by far. I bought a full bottle direct from Arquiste after wearing it once from a sample. A decadent fragrance that will never leave my collection.

Can't say I recall a time that a fragrance has brought literal tears to my eyes until now! Peau is such a somber, melancholic musk that truly feels like touching and breathing in an ancient marble statue. Something is so cozy and enveloping about it while at the same time being removed, ghostly, almost transparent. The sage and ambergris combo is so nice- I also get a bit of starchiness similar to Diptyque L'Eau Paper- like a ricey orris. There is absolutely no sweetness to this fragrance- but it still feels like it has so many layers througout the wear. 10/10 Flores-Roux creation!

so i really like this i got a bottle after having a sample, can’t stop wearing it is like escentric 01 , peppery musky a bit powdery, soft but dense stays with me for a long time. don’t care about the story behind it but the bottle is cute. the thing that confuse me is that, there’s a small leaflet inside the box with all fragrances descriptions and some of the notes for Peau are different from those on fragrantica and their website. the list: clary sage, cepes absolute, aldehydes, narcissus absolute, “nape of the neck “ accord 🤡, tonka bean absolute, cedar wood, musk.

This smells very much in the vein of JHAG Not a Perfume, particularly the Superdose version. In the dry down, they're nearly identical, but there's something about Peau that has a bit more depth and character. It begins with a musky, peppery ambergris and morphs then into something a little more powdery. The powder doesn't hang around for too long and it's not very overwhelming as I tend to think powdery scents can be. This is a beautiful musky, fuzzy, cozy, clean scent. Dry. A little peppery and cold. Smells like a ghost might smell after passing you in the hallway.

For me, this is perfectly warm without being too sweet— it's "cozy," but not in a bath-and-body-works-pristine-cashmere-sweater way— it smells like being hugged from behind while standing in the kitchen on a cool winter evening. I get a bit of that ISO-E super synthetic woodiness in the drydown, but I personally like it. I really love this scent. It's a very natural-feeling musk/amber that is the epitome of the "your skin but better" scent genre to me. It definitely leans masculine, but is not distinctly male.

With the help of musk, sage, subtle amber notes and ambroxan, an ambergris accord is developed that focuses primarily on the warm skin notes of natural ambergris. All the other facets of the complex fragrance spectrum can also be experienced (a touch of maritime freshness, woody, fruity, animalic accents), but they remain in the background. On the surface, the fragrance oscillates between the cool minerality of talcum powder and warm, pulsating skin - beautifully inspired, wonderfully realised.

I really love this perfume. It smells exactly like you would expect based on the notes listed. It mostly reminds me of NAP and Molecule 01, but with added very subtle sweetness from herbs and sage. I like the saliva comparison someone made below, but then again, NAP also heavily reminds me of saliva, so that’s not unique to Peau. I’m not entirely sure about the skin-evoking claim, but I see why it might remind you of a young lover.

I love this scent profile. To me — the scent is salty, slightly aquatic. Very much a second-skin fragrance. The longevity is impressive, but projection is minimal. For this reason, I find this more of a daytime scent. I find it very unisex and could easily be layered with a more feminine or masculine fragrance to help neutralize. If you like musky, powdery, woody smells you’ll adore this.

LOVE this, it's an incredible take on the profile. Yes, many other releases do the "ambroxan bomb plus some other stuff" DNA, but this feels so much more nuanced and cozy. So much more alive than similar ambroxan frags like Not a Perfume, which always tend to lean a little artificial for me However my partner did say I smelled "like a very clean aquarium store, but in a good way" so

My partner really liked this scent on me. We both tend to gravitate toward perfumes that have clary sage. I think that’s what gives it that mouth watering sweetness and cool trail. It seems like it would project well if I spritz 15 times. I already have Pull & Bear Potion, so I’m not sure whether I should get it or not. I think it’s more similar to that than NAP.

I love this but you have to love the ambroxin pencil shaving smelling perfumes.. reminds me a lot of L’eau Papier but with a hint more ambroxin. I love these types of woody ambrogris scents. Performance isn’t great with longevity only 3-5 hours. And the projection is a pretty small scent bubble maybe bigger if you spray heavy and it’s within the first hour.

So incredibly sexy. Everything about this scent is subtle and soft-focus. Dry, spicy, warm, musky- to me this really is the ideal scent of skin. It lasts for awhile, especially on clothes. The sillage is minimal, but that's the point. It's just enough for you and a special someone.

Intimate and a bit sad, like a tearful hug... it feels almost tragic to wear this. I imagine that if I were to embrace a statue in a museum, it would smell close to this - clean, smooth, cold. It makes me long for something that I've missed (but I'm not sure of what that is)

This scent is beautiful. I thoughts arquiste’s Architects club was my favorite but this scent is a close second. I received so many compliments when I wore this to a party. Highly recommend.

Smells like a girlfriend, in the sense that it's a very intimate scent. Clean, musky, peppery, and somewhat cold. Lots of amber as well. I really can't get enough of this.

There's no Ambroxan in here at all. It's Ambermax, different molecule entirely, which actually doesn't give me a headache.

I got told I smell like a hospital today and I feel sick.

this is a scent that should be kept close to your heart. like, literally. i think this smells best when sprayed on the neck/sternum area. the warmth in those areas helps bring out the musks and amber better than on the wrists (keep in mind i am testing this in the cold— perhaps in warmer weather, you wouldn’t need to spray on your neck to get the same effect). when first sprayed, it is a straight pepper and sage bite. sharp and herbal, very, very peppery for the first couple minutes. i felt a bit like the beginnings of a soup, or maybe a victorian remedy for measles. this thankfully dries down pretty fast into one of the most pleasant scents i have ever smelled. it is reminiscent of a partner, of the “nape of the neck” (as arquiste likes to remind us), just... human skin. it’s not animalic, it’s not sweaty or indolic or reminiscent of bad breath. it’s literally just that human musk. the sage helps give it a bit of an edge. the coldness of the sage gives the scent a touch of melancholy. it reminds me of a goodbye hug, or cuddling with someone outside on a very cold winter day. mr. darcy in his wet shirt, water and skin and sharp spring air. the sage keeps the musk from being too soft and inviting. it’s waking up from the best dream you’ve ever had and remembering it’s not real. a touch of ephemera, of fleetingness. tragic love indeed. i sprayed this on my neck before i went to bed, and found myself curled up under the covers with my nose in my collar, just smelling this fragrance. at times, i can’t smell anything, and other times, i get a nose full of the sage, but i mostly get that ephemeral musk i was talking about earlier. i would say this scent is sensual, not sexy. or if it is sexy, it’s sexy in the most natural, intimate, dare i say artistic of ways. a back massage, not lacy lingerie. it’s first getting in the shower with a partner after a long day. a nude drawing with a freshly sharpened pencil. the appeal of bare skin, the heroic nudity that the ancient greeks were so fond of. i think it’s work safe, but it seems made for more intimate moments. i love the story behind this (historical inspired perfumes are very neat, and greco-roman ones more than most in my opinion), and the bottle is so, so gorgeous. however, it’s definitely overpriced. it’s also a touch masculine for my usual taste, so i’m really debating buying a bottle. i might try putting this on top of vanilla body lotion to see if that takes a bit of the bite off the sage. projection is intimate but longevity is surprisingly good! 4.5/5 for me. the vibes: reverse medusa. stone becoming skin. you run through the herb garden on a windy day and tuck yourself under the arm of the statue that guards the gate. the marble shoulder slowly softens beneath your head, their arm wraps comfortably around you. you lean into their side, breathe in deeply. the herbs, the cold air next to the heat of their skin. you know it’s just a dream. you love it anyway.

one of the few fragrances where i can smell every note listed here. at first the pepper and coriander were way too much for me (the sample i received had a crazy atomizer (compliment) so i almost passed tf out), and i can't lie that it took me a long time to find any amber in this. tried it again the next day with a much lighter dosage in the crease of my elbow (i read the background/description, it seemed most fitting) and my lord i can see where people get the idea of this being the scent of someone you love very much stripped to their core. tucking your face into the most naked part of a loved one. i came to appreciate the coriander as i found it presents a twist to most "intimate amber-musk" type concepts. like you're embracing a granite statue or sitting next to a damp headstone. or like the statue of your adonis came to life on a rainy day. it's odd; it's quite cold to the nose but emits this warmth in its imagery—i'm so fascinated by it. definitely not a blind buy unless you're like super into being transported to gothic almost metalic musks or being laid to rest in a bed of crushed flowers.

Hits in the face with the ambergris and sage as well as an unexpected smokiness to start, and softens into a really delightful naturalistic scent- melds well with my own actual scent, just adds a bit of depth with a clean smelling musk and a woodiness that suits me really well. It does lean a little masculine, but I often prefer those on me anyway, so it works for me. No floral or bright notes in this one, it's all warm, deep woods and skin to my nose. Wouldn't recommend this to someone going for a 'fresh' or 'clean' vibe at all, but if you want something a little more intimate this might be your bag. Wear it with a partner, not for a business meeting. Wear time is good and sillage is minimum moderate- I was still noticing it 3 hours later (not sure if it dropped off or my nose stopped paying attention after that), tested it on my ankle before running some errands and I was still catching it, so it's at least a 5-6 foot ambient scent. If you don't love the top notes (I didn't either) wait 15 minutes- it quickly dries down into something entirely different from the first impression.

I like this. I can smell it much more than the other similar Amber molecule perfumes like Another 13. Not ambroxan but a different amber, ambermax, that I can smell but to my perception doesn’t step all over the other notes. I also smell pepper and musk (a lot of pepper, spicy black pepper, that tickles the nose) and it’s nice. Brings to mind Cacio e Pepe a little bit. Creamy and peppery with a little salty tang. The amber blends with the wood and the musk for that creamy, woody background. I’ve smelled other Arquiste fragrances that also have kind of a stealthy gourmand aspect that flys under the radar but is there. Peau gets woodier with time. The pepper heats up and gets spicier too, and at this stage it begins to remind me a little of Le Feu d’Issey, which I sold long ago, one of my dumber decisions. It doesn’t have the florals or the lactonic notes that I remember from Le Feu but it does have a creamy wood and that incredible pepper. If you liked that one, maybe get a sample of this. It lasts 6-8 hours on skin and has an intimate sillage.

An initial blast of aromatic yet soft ambroxan, underlined by a subtle animalic musk. After 10 minutes, as many mentioned, it becomes a second skin, making mine smell salty, almost salivatory. Overall, I find this fragrance sort of difficult to rate - it's one of those scents you won't really smell on yourself after an hour or so, but people walking by will definitely notice. All the feedback I've gotten thus far has been overwhelmingly positive, and everything points to this being an absolute winner in my collection. However part of me does wear fragrances for myself to smell and appreciate. I guess this works if you want to be sure you smell good without the distraction. Like an elevated "dumb reach". I definitely enjoy the packaging and story around it, but considering the nature of the fragrance I'm sure this could be cheaper - like around where Escentric Molecule fragrances lie. Overall I'd say this is a 4/5. Other random adjectives that come to mind: - Modern bordering on avant-garde - Minimalistic - Unisex - Suggestive - Warm

This is a really interesting scent that initially didn't blow my socks off because it's so subtle. It's in the genre of molecule type fragrances (Another 13, Molecule 01, etc) but being different and distinct from those. The Okoume wood from Gabon reads almost like sandalwood to me. It has a distinct woody smell that when combined with the corriander and other ingredients to smell like paper. More specifically, it smells like craft paper. Aside from that, the musk accord created here really does smell like human skin. Not dirty skin or freshly showered skin, just skin. It's hard to explain what skin smells like but easy to spot. One of the better "skin smells" I've encountered. My only complaint is the fixative used have (ambermax) is very strong. It provides good performance (particularly longevity) but can trigger headaches. I don't find this one animalic at all when wearing it in cool temperatures, I'll need to try it in the heat. ----------------------------------------------------------- Scent 8/10 Performance 8/10

I've worn this a couple of times trying to get its beauty and subtlety to reveal itself to me. I know this has been nominated for awards and comes from an amazing house - I love Nanban and The Architect's Club. I've read all the positive reviews espousing its understated beauty and minimalist perfection. And its nice, but overall I don't get the love. Others have mentioned fragrances, primarily ambroxan-based, that this is similar to. I adore a salty musk base, and this is fine, ever so slightly masculine. I'm not a huge fan of the sharp sage in the opening but at least it's giving something a little different. This doesn't evolve or surprise me at all, but for someone perhaps who is a minimalist when it comes to collecting and is just looking for a few good bottles, I can see them adopting this as a signature. But for those of us who smell everything and like to grow our collections... probably not.

I don't know if I like this one - and I am typically a big fan of Arquiste. This one is undetectable 10 minutes later (on me, to my nose). I find that to be really frustrating. It started off with Heavy Musks - like clean B.O. Not the least bit feminine. That makes sense after reading about the Perfumer's inspiration. I am just not sure. I may not keep this one...

ISO-E Super, Ambroxan and a touch of a white musk aromachemical. The result is a dry, woody, slightly musky scent that has some of the sharper edges smoothed out. I happen to like this smell, but I'm not sure it's worth the flowery prose or lengthy "notes" list.

Soft smoke and sage. Not like smudging but just the two notes together, complementing one another. An intimate scent without much sillage.

Bit department store/mature, but a nice peppery musk. From Etiket's SFW sample set, definitely safe and likable!

As it sits on my forearm right now (applied maybe 30 minutes ago), the perfumers' intent to make a skin-scent-that's-not-quite-a-skin-scent but rather an HOMAGE to skin scent definitely comes across to me. It reads very sharp & cold, which is interesting. I think this could be a love if it warms over time, but that remains to be seen! Peau reminds me of Molecule 01 & D.S. & Durga "I Don't Know What", both of which I use exclusively for layering. UPDATE: the drydown was quite linear, and I found that it faded almost completely after about 6 hours. Oh well.

This smells powdery to me with a bit of oud at the base. I know there's no oud listed, but I think it's the combo of the ambergris and musk. I do like it though and am not a big fan of oud-y scents.

I really really wanted to like this. I purchased a small sample vial blind because I love historical and symbolic fragrances, I love offbeat scents, and I love intimate skin scents that play off your chemistry. Unfortunately, all of Peau's unique and intriguing scent notes came out loud, strong, and whangy. The Sillage is only arm's length but I found myself trying to get away from it's overwhelmingly unpleasant smell. After maybe two hours I showered to get it off and I could still catch whiffs of it in the shower and post full body scrub down. I can only describe the smell as like an antique/estate shop's vintage clothing section- decades and decades of cigarette smoke, perfume, powders and cosmetics, and human body scent gone stale and musty and all intermingling, which is not great when you put a concentrated blast of musty powderpuff right on your neck hoping for something very different. I really wish this was a beautiful complex fragrance on me so I could love it, but unfortunately this is a single spray and retire fragrance for me. Update: I sniff compared the sprayer nozzle to some of my recent vintage cosmetic/fashion finds that I haven't restored. It smells exactly like a beaver fur muff that was in a 20's cosmetics bag. Very distinctly powdery, musky (in an old armpits/shoes way), and has that 'vintage makeup accord' like playdough.

Not having a ton of luck with Arquiste. Peau seemed to be right up my alley--warm, intimate, something that blends well with the wearer's own skin scent. There's a note or two or maybe an accord or the whole thing--i don't know--but there's something here that's almost nauseating to me. The best way I can describe it is hot, salty Play-doh. And I think it's the saltiness that's most striking, but those three qualities just work together in the worst way. I know, what does that even mean, and how do I even remember the scent of Play-doh? Well let me tell you, I didn't know that I remembered it until Peau reached into the deepest, furthest fissure of my mind and plucked that faint little scent memory and said "hey bitch, you remember kindergarten?" Anyways, I don't like it.

Skin (even unwashed/ intimate area skin) does not smell like gasoline/ rubbing alcohol/ oily marine sludge sprinkled with moldy pepper. I normally try to find something positive to point out in most perfume concoctions but this one elicits only bile. Literally... it triggers the vomit reflex and that’s due to the amber-wood odorant that’s utilized for “woody notes” and the overdose of ISO-E Super. RFR can do so much better than this ... as evidenced by his new interpretations of Le Gallion perfumes.

I generally don’t like another 13 style fragrances, I thought this would be different with the additional notes of labdanum and sage. Can’t help but feel like this is so off! There’s this very weird animalic/B.O. thing this does on my skin. The whole reason I tried this is because someone from the scentroom LA told me this smells like old books. There is no resemblance whatsoever. Update: less “off” overtime and settles on skin nicely. I still don’t like it! too another 13 adjacent

On me it’s very very animalic. You know that smell when you floss your teeth for the first time in a few days? Or when someone hasn’t brushed their teeth in a while? That’s the smell I get from this. I was told it’s cold, academic, and antique but I don’t get that at all. I do think it’s intriguing- it’s a very human smell. I do like the description of “the idealized scent of a lover,” because I get all the worst human smells in probably the least gross way, but it’s not for me.

When I saw reviews on this scent, I was so sold. I love darker fragrances, especially in the musky "skin scent" category. This is a colder and damper version of some of those popular skin scents. I think that this smells a lot like Juliette has a Gun if you were in a damp room. This unfortunately had absolutely no longevity and faded very quickly on me.

my first impression of this perfume was that it was the meanest, coldest skin scent i had ever tried. i put it on again a second time and immediately had to wash it off. this perfume makes me feel like i'm sick and on my death bed!
