Venice Rococo

WOW. THIS is beautiful..rose, powdery, violets ... My first thought in the opening was , this smells vintage!:... It smelled like something from my grandmother's boudoir table.. Tangee lipstick, a poofy dusting from her gold box of Angel Face powder, with a spritz of scent.... My grandmother was no knit & crochet grandmother..she was a 1920's flapper, who didn't teach me to embroider..she taught me how to play cards and smoke cigarettes, when my mother wasn't looking. My Gran was as original as this perfume! A former wild child dancing in the speakeasy, she kept that bad girl vibe as she aged. For a moment, I was transported back there.... BUT then the perfume began to change... The heart is sophisticated, powdery, rich, GORGEOUS. THIS powdery scent isn't dry, it's thick, full bodied...grown up. And VERY original, in these times where everything smells like fruit, smells like an ocean or smells like oud.. The drydown down is rosy, warm amber ..with something slightly animalic. SEXY. The performance is good, not spectacular, but this smells SO good, SO original, honestly? I don't care. I will have this perfume.. And maybe hit the club, and dance my socks off-- like my Gran did when she was off making trouble, in her heyday.✨

Magnetic and head spinning! The most powdery powder perfume I’ve encountered. Teint de Neige is similar albeit sweeter, creamier. Venice Rococo comes close to my idea of vintage face powders, ruffles and feathers, and the scent of a cosmetic/violetty/pretty perfume emanating from a generous cleavage. It could be backstage at the Moulin Rouge, in the bedroom of a 50’s starlet, and even at the lab of a cosmetic genius circa the early 20’s. I can sense a reference to the idea of Vanderbilt, L’Heure Bleue, Caron cosmetics and maybe lipstick. While I don’t find it animalic, there’s a naughty bit that makes it feel not clean but lived in. I find it comforting, piercing, sometimes strident, always beautiful. If YSL Paris fell inside a huge vat of Teint de Neige, and Dove soap was used to wash the mess, it could approximate the scent of Venice Rococo. Freshly washed, both gals hairspray to an inch of their lives, play with a white cat called Azurra, eat a violet bonbon and spray perfume lavishly, Ombre Rose maybe, with a dash of Youth Dew underneath for a fiery jolt. That’s the idea I can get along with! I absolutely love it! Sillage and longevity are off the charts. From 2024, this/Epona/Un Bel Amour d’Été are the top releases.

Rose frolicking between sharp and soft, aldehydes and after bath powder straight from a deteriorating vintage pouf, coating the air in fine particles of light-catching talc laced with just enough arsenic to portend doom. The concept of antique and relic made olfactory, reeking of a not-literal but certainly foreshadowed death. Morbid delights of wearing a long-deceased relative's vanity trove, knowing nothing within the ornate bygone-devotion-to-glamour compact is currently considered safe for applying to skin, and not really caring much for the caution this should provoke. Dabbing behind the ears a bombshell rose parfum that's evaporated into practical agar from an etched crystal flacon. There is almost a costume facet to this scent, as if adding it to an ensemble could age it up, lending undue provenance to a replica vintage dress. In that way it can be considered a faux finish one might brew up at home, staining new lace with tea bags to give the appearance of age and just a touch of neglect: an instant and no-stakes haunting. The ultimate Miss Havisham cosplay scent. It's powerful and projects, which is to be expected both from the house of Arquiste and the nose of Flores-Roux.

I keep telling myself I dislike powdery notes, especially those that veer baby-wipeish - it was my main gripe with Comete. I don't have much nostalgia for my nappy-changing days and I always loathed the hideously artificial powdery smell of (clean) disposable nappies, while talc type smells just makes me think of dirty hair. However, I love this perfume, and keep thinking about it. It occurs to me that I also enjoy the touch of powder notes in several perfumes I know or own, like Blousy, Dior Homme Intense, Confetto. Not sure what makes it ok in some cases, not in others, but Venice Rococo is so charming even though it's also definitely baby-wipe-adjacent. What the reviewers say below matches my experience very closely. I like the sharpness of the rose-musk edge, and adore the civet or whatever in the base. The pink bubble of the bottle is adorable too, and the name is genius: who doesn't love eighteenth-century Venice? And Rococo, the overlooked, unserious younger cousin of Baroque, is very much My Thing. This would be fabulous on a man, an olfactory powdered wig and lace hankie

After an endless search for a perfume that truly makes me fall in love, Venice Rococo was a revelation. The opening is quite strong, but from the very first spray it is beautiful rather than challenging. A luminous blend of roses, violet, iris, orange and soft powder creates an impression that feels elegant, romantic and effortlessly feminine. What I love most is the harmony. I can detect the individual notes, yet none of them dominates or becomes annoying. The rose is refined, the violet adds charm without turning overly sweet, the iris brings sophistication, and the orange provides just enough brightness to keep everything radiant. Unlike many fragrances that impress initially and then lose their magic, Venice Rococo simply becomes softer and more intimate as it wears. The character remains the same throughout, just closer to the skin. On me, the longevity is excellent—I could still smell it the next morning. This is one of those rare perfumes that keeps drawing my nose back to my wrist. Romantic, polished, and utterly beautiful.

The fragrance unfurls with a vibrant cloud of powdery purple florals. Rose and violet immediately take center stage, forming a sophisticated and luminous bouquet that feels both classic and expressive. The effect is soft and flirtatious, leaving a noticeable trail that unfolds like a refined powdery floral with a distinctly vintage sensibility. What stands out is how polished and cohesive the composition feels. Interestingly, I don’t detect the cumin, civet, or other elements that might push the fragrance toward a more animalic or provocative direction. Instead, the overall atmosphere remains graceful and romantic, evoking the charm of historical luxury perfumes. To my nose, it sits somewhere between French violet and Lipstick rose, while also recalling the powdery elegance of Teint de Neige. Those who enjoy vintage-inspired iris and powdery florals will likely find this fragrance deeply appealing.

Even though I would not wear this myself, I do very much appreciate its complexity and elegant sophistication. Rose and powder are the two dominant notes. The powder is not your standard baby version- it is much more refined and clearly grown up, reminiscent of an expensive YSL cosmetic that my mom used to wear. The rose is quintessential Turkish - the kind with powerful thorns and a strong exuberance of fresh petals. Unlike her dainty pink presentation, there is something very vintage gothic about the blend. I can vividly smell the costume effect that others have commented about. The cumin, amber and violet came through on the drydown for me. Longevity is great, but there is something a bit too mature about this for me personally. Not your average grandma by any means, but this definitely evokes a feeling of past times. Old money for sure.

Perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux has a style that is the olfactory equivalent of music producer Phil Specter’s famous “wall of sound.” Specter layered voices and instruments so that the entire sound spectrum was packed. Flores-Roux does this with olfactory molecules. I don’t smell any space between the notes or even between the top, middle and bottom of Venice Rococo. All the accords come out at once—the aldehydes, the violet, the coconut, the camomile, white flowers, rose and Hawthorne. By comparing Flores-Roux to Spector I don’t mean to suggest he makes “loud” perfumes. What I mean is that he makes florals, and especially white florals, deep and robust. After smelling Venice Rococo and L’Astre for Le Gallion, he has become my favorite perfumer.

I found about Arquiste because of A Grove by the Sea (I am a sucker for Mediterranean inspired fragrances) and decided to spend the twenty bucks to snag a sample set. I wasn't really expecting much from this fragrance, it wasn't on my radar at all since I don't gravitate towards soapy rose scents at all, BUT this beauty really blew me away! The powder and soapy aldehydes are paired with a sweet rose (though it doesn't go jammy thank god), but the slight animalic qualities from the cumin are what make this shine. It takes this fragrance from just another soap bomb to something incredibly sensual and cheeky. I think it might be my favorite from the set and has inspired me to give the rest of their offerings a sniff. Pleasantly surprised!

smells like rose and violet petals snuggled up silk sheets and doused in baby powder in the most romantic way possible. It's coquette to the max, with the aldehydes being soapy and clean with a vintage and powdery backbone. There's definitely a honeyed sweetness here, but the powdery touches overtake anything becoming too sweet or syrupy. The rose here reads so soft and crumbly, and as a rose hater, it manages to be highlighted without being too floral, too stuffy, or too sweet. The dry down is interesting as the civet and amber mimic the warmth of a lovers skin after they've taken a rose milk bath and lathered themselves in soft lotion. A gorgeous scent.

Beautiful aldehydic rose and violet perfume with a powdery dry down. I detest cumin in fragrances but luckily I don't smell it in this. It is softly animalic, more a purr rather than a growl. Vintage vibes but firmly 21st century. I must get a bottle of this, I can't stop smelling my wrist. Amazing longevity, one small spray and I can still smell it after a shower.

I love this but it smells so similar to LV Teint de neige that I don't need it. So, close that they could be twins. Slight differences. Like one twin has a few little freckles and the other one doesn't. Teint de neige has a vanilla powder mixed in with the floral powder. But Venice Rococo doesn't have any slight vanilla sweetness, only the sweetness from heliotrope. This is very beautiful and when my bottle of Teint de Neige is gone I might opt for this instead.

Powdery retro heaven. Violet not overwhelming but softened by rose & hawthorn. Similar to Mizensir’s Musc Eternel but ME is cleaner and more modern. This is more romantic. I mostly find this scent profile comforting rather than seductive, but this hints at indoor privacy, conjures up images of four poster beds, intimacy and sex. Desperately trying to ignore the slight cough and olfactory bulb-to-brain pain it appears to give me because I want this badly....

I happen to love this. It has a very clear vision and apologizes for nothing. It is Bold, Vintage, Powdery & Opulent. I picture Venice at night and the sound of heels on the cobblestone streets. I happen to work outdoors so I appreciate the staying power. If you want to tone it down it layers well with Chanel 1932. Definitely recommend testing before you buy.

Absolutely gorgeous. Feminine to the Nth degree. Its everything beautiful of a time gone by of gentility and deftness. Dreamy dreamy dreamy of Paris streets maybe the Caron salon for their iconic face powder. Absolutely transportive. Its delicate, feminine, memorable. Total signature scent. Wow

A slightly more sparkling version of Lipstick Rose that is less powerful. Very similar in smell, all the way through to dry down, maybe slightly less candy hearts. You don't need both as scent profile is very similar. Definitely FBW.

I want to bathe in this. This is an easy FBW purchase if you love a powdery scent. It screams first day of spring to me. It’s soft, flirtatious, pink bows and pink cheeks

Saw a bunch of reviews saying this is just powder and not much else, and knew I had to get my nose on it. I love a powder, and think that when you love a smell you can better assess subtle nuances and differences. And I'm here to tell you that yes this is a soft powder, but primarily I'm getting rosewater. And the powder here isn't as dry as others like Kenzo Flower or Habanita, and I actually prefer my powders dry. This feels more soft and spongey, probably supported by the chamomile. Later an orange-tinged amber starts shining through. Lady like. Like the other reviewers I am not getting much cumin or civet or anything that would turn this from a pretty fragrance into something more unexpected or subversive. However the couple on the fragaphilia podcast mentioned smelling animalic notes so there is dissent!! Sidebar for powder lovers, otherwise skip: at the same time this launched, so did Jouissance Le Cahiers Secret, inspired by Anais Nin's journals. A timeless powdery "grandma" scent warmed by flushed-skin spices, if you are looking for something with a little skank.

It pleases me to no end to see such a sophisticated boudoir beauty to be released in the blasé fragrance market of 2024. Flores-Roux brings the rose face powder, reminiscent of Coty Airspun, all feature-boa soft and musky. I am also heavily reminded of the classic Brousseau Ombre Rose, but then also what comes to mind, especially in the heart, is a big dollop of Villoresi's Teint de Neige, but this has more of a cosmetic violet interior. It all seems written in sassy script, replete with loop-de-loops and ornate flourishes, a fluffy milk bath before donning a silk nightgown. In other words, I will take archetypically feminine fragrances and wear the hell out of them in my bedchamber, but I just can't disassociate this from being meant for a lady—that is quite unusual for me! So, I won't go full bottle: I have my Ombre Rose, my Teint de Neige, and Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, and I can just layer them all together to get a similar effect. Alternately, I can simply enjoy my sample vial now and then. Not too shabby, Rodrigo—this is the tits! Bravo.

Sad to see the day when a powdery fragrance is too much for me but I think this is it. The name is so befitting and the fragrance unfolds magically, but I can hardly breathe while wearing it; feels like I my face and nose are being dusted with finishing powder or talc. Touche Finale, one of the top intense powders of the past ten years in my opinion, smells identical in the opening but something else is there to keep it in check whereas the powder in this crescendos and expands tenfold after the first couple minutes. My favorite part is the initial dry down after some of the intense powder starts to clear out; when a deeply sweet violet reveals itself. The fragrance is eternal and has enormous silage.

If I didn’t already have 2 bottles of Vivienne Westwoods Boudoir (reminds me of this iconic scent-not the same notes but more so the emotive presence it conjures up), this would definitely be in my collection. Gorgeous scent profile tho... Will let this ride a few more times before I decide if its a FB for me...Almond Suede-also a pleasant surprise.

To me it smells exactly like the Mitchum powder fresh deodorant. like the girls change room after PDHPE in high school

Smells juuuust like Method's Rose Water-Peony-Pink Sea Salt body wash, for anybody who knows it.

I'm glad I was able to get a sample of this first before blind buying. This is too much like Teint de Neige, which I already have. The main difference is that this has a prominent violet note that I don't get in Teint. Teint is also much smoother and better blended. There is something here that is a little bitter and sharp, almost annoying, I get none of that in Teint. I think it might be the cumin which if used a little too heavily does smell bitter and sharp to me. The only way Teint is annoying is if you use too much, then it can get a little overwhelming, but there is never anything bitter or sharp in that scent. As far as the other notes, I do not pick up the civet and am just getting a trace of rose. It is mostly powder and violet on me. I'm glad I was able to try this, but I'd rather stick to something I already have that smells better to me too. Try if you like violet and powder scents.

Venice Rococo is complex and hard to describe, indeed it smells diffferent from everything else. I smell three distinct facets nicely blended together: 1) First, there’s a milky, floral softness. It’s creamy, warm, and almost soothing, like warm milk infused with delicate flowers. This gives the fragrance an intimate, comforting feel. 2) Then comes a powdery, clean note. It’s got that vintage, boudoir vibe - think talc and lipstick. Soft, slightly nostalgic, and a bit glamorous. 3) LAst there is the ambery, spicy undertone. It’s a bit dirty, a little raw, and brings a rough edge that cuts through the gentleness of the other notes.

I'm picturing a masquerade ball in Venice circa 1600's. It's very vintagy and powdery but like a replica of things I have smelled too many times before. It's less austere than something like Amouage Gold (women) but along those lines. There's also a weird sour note that I don't like, and I think it's the hawthorn because I never seem to like any perfumes with hawthorn due to an off-putting sour-ish scent. Vintage lovers should try. Definitely smells of excellent quality.

I love powdery scents and aldehydes but Venice Rococo is pure baby powder combined with wet wipes. When amber is combined with civet and powdery notes, it always gives me a sweet, musky, licked cat fur scent. It reminds of Ambre Muscadin by Laurent Mazzone which is a roaring animalic and “sexy flan” version of Venice Rococo. I always like how refined and almost retro but still modern Arquiste’s perfumery is, but this one is not for me.

This totally doesn’t come across as 18th century-esque, to my nose it’s like a sweet mid-noughties celebrity perfume. It’s very reminiscent of the Harajuku Lovers line, notably Super G. It opens up smelling like fresh cotton, then develops a heady sweetness, before becoming too artificially screechy for my tastes. Childhood cosmetics in a bottle. Not for me.

Not detecting the anamalic notes or the cumin thankfully. It is a powder bomb. Probably a bit too much powder for my taste. I wish the violet was stronger. It is nice even though I am not as fond of powder. I don't think I will purchase a bottle, but I can see that powder lovers will enjoy this. It does last very well.

Received a sample from Ministry of Scent. It's a bit sour--not my thing.

I made such a grave mistake. I had a sample that I tried about around this fragrance dropped. I remember liking it a lot, but not having the money for the full bottle at the time. I wanted Almond Suede Amina Dulcis and Architects Club and Venice. Well as time went on other bottles intrigued me more thag were more in my price range and I purchased those instead. Well well well out comes the 30 ml size. And I found myself trying to decide which of the 4 I wanted first. Well I got Venice, and lo and behold, I HATE IT. Don’t get me wrong, I love a powdery cosmetic fragrance, I like retro, I like vintage. What I don’t like is Migraines. Sinus migraines. Trying this on ruined my whole day. Nausea followed. It never warmed up, it never got creamy, no it stayed sharp, and bitting and I swear I almost ended up with clown lung. It’s way more harsh than I remember. I should’ve purchased suede instead. I still have a drop left and it’s still good. I’m selling my 30 ml on Mercari. Please take it from me so i can get one that doesn’t require 4 ibuprofen

Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola is a true favorite of mine. I love the 80s synth-pop soundtrack, Ladurée pastel colors, and Kirsten Dunst’s performance. Powdery, animalic, and musky, "Venice Rococo" closely mirrors the film’s imagery. Unfortunately, the animalistic edge and cumin note are overpowering. The scent is not particularly pretty, unless you are hoping to smell like an unwashed aristocrat dusting herself in powder. "Venice Rococo" is more artistic than it is practical, so I have clicked the dislike rating.

This was one of 5 perfumes that I sprayed on test strips. I left them in my bedroom (with the door open) and returned 15 minutes later to a room that smelled very strongly of Venice Rococo. I can't speak to the silage but the projection is enourmous. It's well named as it does conjure the opulence and excess of the rococo period. It's VERY powdery and makeupy smelling. Not really my style. This was part of a discovery set. I wouldn't have picked it based on the notes. I did not spray it on skin so YMMV.

Whoever the Venice Rococo woman is, I want to be her friend. I'm a simp for her, actually. I'm definitely not her- I will categorically never wear this fragrance- but if it's you? Be prepared for a stage-five clinger in me, because I think you're an ICON. I imagine you frequenting the underground, red-velvet bedecked 1930's heaven of the Theatre Arts Bar in London's Soho, or a sexy Parisian speakeasy like The 1905, with everyone cheering as you walk inside and reapply your Mac Ruby Woo lipstick. Dita Von Teese looks to YOU as a style icon, I fear. I know your sense of humour is wicked, I can see you subverting social norms just for the fun of it, and your wardrobe is full of vintage pieces with cheeky twists that are absolutely to die for. For an exceptionally feminine, powdery-floral scent, Venice Rococo is an incredibly polarising one. To put my cards on the table- I don't love powdery scents. I'm nasally allergic to strong aldehydes. I'm not wild about violet. This one was never going to be for me. But I can appreciate it for what it is, and the 'grandma' allegations are from people with zero imagination, creativity, sense of tongue-in-cheek whimsy and playfulness. The opening of this is a purple-floral powdery BOMB. I think I blinked, and then pulled away from the blotter in slight alarm. The aldehydes burst through the floral-powderiness like too-bright sunshine powering its way through cloud cover and everything lifts into oversaturated hues of lilac, powder-blue and soft yellow. Then something odd happens... there's an earthy, funky creep, that leans indolic at first and then turns straight up animalic as the civet and cumin drag everything back down from the sky to make it a little more terrestrial, a little more grimy and raw. All the different facets- the powder, the twinkly violet, the now-faded aldehydes that impart just a little lift, soft and plush rose, the body-smells of civet, cumin and indolic jasmine- play together in the dry down, but nothing settles. The whole composition stays sharp, almost spiky to my nose, and incredibly strident bordering on insistent. There is nothing apologetic about this. It lasts like hell, and it shouts while doing it... but at least the shout is a well-earned, cheeky retort and middle finger to the cat-calling weirdo dude across the street.

In Arquiste Venice Rococco, I am reminded of that iconic scene in The Company of Wolves, and my imagination takes care of the rest: the wedding party dissolves into wolves, but their powdered costumes and countenances still hang in the air – rice-white, chalk-soft, cloud-thick, falling like snow in a fairy tale gone corrupt and perverse. Powder piles in drifts against the walls, powder floats in sheets through candlelight, powder settles like ash on abandoned masks, powder dusts every surface until the mirrors suffocate in white. The scent floats between reality and nightmare, each breath drawing in more sweet, choking powder. Underneath all those layers of white lies something wild – teeth behind the powder puff, claws stirring up fresh clouds with every step. This is what's left at the banquet table after the cursed aristocrats' lycanthropic transformations, their abandoned feast drowning in drifts of violet-white dust, confections, and silverware scattered like bones beneath a blanket of perfumed snow.

I have fallen hard for this perfume! I was on the search for a more modern take on Teint de Neige, which I love, but my partner thinks is too "grandma". Venice Rococo is a delight, first opening very similar to TdN, but dries down to a sublime creamy, powdery rose with a hint of crumbly biscotti. (Though there is no almond note, it's a mere suggestion.) There's no cumin or civet to my nose, which is a relief. This is all silky powder! This perfume smells like (what I imagine) the skin of a 18th century duchess sinking into a copper bath where the maids fill the tub with milk and rose petals, after which she dries off and dusts a generous amount of powder all over. I am obsessed. I also find the longevity great - lasts through my workday where it's still gracing my skin after 6-7 hours. Gotta love the round, pink bottle too.

Pretty sure this is what Dolores Umbridge smells like. . Similar to Lipstick Rose but without the lipstick, and without any defining character. Not a fan personally, but if you enjoy the very vintage style powdery scents that have a slight sour quality. . Slightly Grannies knicker draw quality. . Then maybe it's worth trying. Nothing about it suggests it's been made in 2024, so for me, it's not giving anything new. But perhaps a bash at this classic style of Violet and Rose with perhaps a slightly more feather like soft approach.

the sweet, aged powder of a François Boucher painting. genuinely, it smells like a rococo exhibit in a museum, like a pink silk dress being worn a masquerade ball in Venice. or makeup powder used to set the face of a fairy princess. powdery candy, boudoir, rosewater, and vintage paper. it reminds me a lot of the candy called “smarties” in America, the little pastel discs that crush into a sugary powder. delicate and enchanting. this is what would happen if the “coquette” aesthetic was bottled

Secrets folded into parchment, pink roses slightly past their prime scattered over a parquet floor, crystal chandeliers, and candied violets, all sewn together with trace amounts of powdered arsenic. Wonderfully decadent and slightly sinister. Reminds me very much of the film version of Dangerous Liaisons with John Malkovich (1988). Though I don't enjoy powdery fragrances, I might consider wearing this rose-strewn concoction to a masked ball during Carnevale di Venezia.

There's a certain subset of fragrance collectors who will adore this, and you know who you are! When I read the description along with the photo spread from Arquiste (omg, those photos!), I knew I needed it and purchased a full bottle without even sampling it. For those who recognize themselves in this I'll just say, read the other reviews for more in-depth descriptions, but I *promise* it smells exactly as you think it will! LOVE.

I stopped by The Conservatory in NYC on my way to the airport. I went specifically to buy A Grove by the Sea. I dismissed this at first whiff immediately - way too powdery. Sniffed and sprayed a couple things, bought my Grove and headed to airport. Im in my regret filled uber and can’t stop sniffing my hand. This has dried down to a gorgeous flowery scent with the slightest hint JBF. It’s fb worthy for sure

Makes me feel like a 1700s courtesan wrapped up in a high-class scandal that's on the verge of unraveling. Favoured but too close to power to be safe. Huge white wigs, arsenic powder, extravagant silk chemise dresses (worn only once, of course), and an overflow of roses, roses, and roses. Smells a little like good sex. Very lovely, but I don't know how often I'd like to inhabit this world, could be FBW.

Major Teint De Neige vibes but with a slightly sweeter, dewier edge and less longevity. The rose is sharp and harsh but softens quickly - the progression of the whole composition is really wonderful to experience. Sad that I’m not getting any raunchy animalics - the dry down is a gentle sweet amber on skin. Projects like crazy from one spray alone.

Gorgeous but a very specific taste. This could have been composed by Germaine Cellier or maybe Guy Robert - it has a definite 40's-50's vibe that reminds me of something like Miss Balmain without the leather. The animalics are subtle and give the florals a big boost, keeping the overall profile from getting too sweet.
