Philtre d'Ambre

Smells incredible! It's a sparkling orange with a slight aquatic edge which dries down to a gooey, syrupy, resinous, almost caramel-like amber. The issue with this, however, is that the performance is very weak. After the opening with the freshness dissipates, what is left is only the amber--which sits flat on your skin. Although it may be rich and unique--which makes it perfect for a trip to the art museum or a walk around--it lacks the lift for a social fragrance. Because this perfume is a bit too rich to be worn in the summer, the performance is a real problem.

Beautiful....spicy (especially Clove and Nutmeg)....creative perfumery. I'll likely never wear it outside my home....which is fine with me; there are many things I'll never share with the outer universe. It's great....different....personal; I'm happy I found it and own it.

This is one of the more bizarre scents I've experienced in a while. The opening in particular is loud, funky, and confusing. After around 10 minutes, it's mellowed out enough that I can catch a whiff of city waterways, crowded with people and flowers, and a strange resinous cloud hanging over it all. Unfortunately it has sickly sweet overtones that I find a bit icky. Like bad breath.

Starts with a strong contrast between salty and sweet, which I love. The sweetness is leathery and orange-y, and the salinity is fun and interesting enough to actually make me appreciate the orange (fine, mandarin). I know it’s not listed as a note but it gave me a liquorice impression at some point. A little later the smoke comes in, but it only seems to last very briefly, before the perfume settles into a steady warm amber. It seems the sweetness “wins” in the end, and if it hadn’t, and it had retained some of the more fun weirdness / churchy quality, this would have been my next purchase!

I wore this for the first time today and I must say it is quite nice. The incense is quite strong for a while but eventually the scent mellows down to a very pleasant woody, rose smell. Sadly I don’t have the nose or experience to fully detail the notes or what I’m smelling but I do feel it’s worth a try for those interested in this type of scent profile.
