Mantes La Jolie

I love herbs in fragrance, and Mantes La Jolie immediately grew on me, evoking an array of aromatic foliage under the summer sun. Here, perfumer Sylvie Fischer does not shy away from the bite and vigor of these plants, with the tartness of lemon and sparkle of bergamot tempering their sharp tang as it opens. Those who follow me on my various platforms have learned that I love exploring gardens, whether they be botanic or community, and I am endlessly dazzled by the energy of plants. Mantes La Jolie is reminiscent of these visits, particularly in a location where the herb, vegetable, and berry gardens intersect, and this constellation creates the most exhilarating aroma in the hot air. I get the sensation of fresh mint and basil leaves, blackcurrant and blackberry, even impressions of tomato leaf, chervil, and calendula. Further in, a floral feel develops, and I am reminded of the smell of water lilies that I would smell when canoeing, mingling with fig leaves and distant spicebush. I get a similar weeds and wildflowers sensation that I find in my beloved Mal-Aimé, as its soft, watery verdant nature slowly transforms to a sweet woodiness. I detect occasional echoes of the lushness that precedes this woody phase. Its tenacity on my skin also belies its seemingly delicate nature. If you enjoy getting lost in gardens as much as I do, I would say this is a must smell for you.

I couldn't wait to try this one after hearing Steve from Luckyscent's review as I value his opinion and love a great freshie - and this one having a maté note made me extra excited! When I finally had the chance to test this - it was absolute, immediate love - zero disappointment - just: "Yay! I love it as much as I'd hoped to!!" But there was something SO familiar about it - a strong reminder of something I'd worn many years ago, and trying to figure it out was driving me mad! Thankfully, it finally occurred to me after hours of obsessive sniffing: a now discontinued cologne from Korres: Mint Tea, I believe? Or lemon basil?? I have tried and tried to search for what it was but can't quite find the image of the bottle I'd had, but I know it was one of these, both of which share notes with Mantes La Jolie. Mantes La Jolie is SO fresh, green, minty and beautiful. I'll reach for this constantly once the weather heats up - this is as refreshing as a big glass of iced yerba mate with basil on a hot summer day! I may try layering this with Debaser one of these days as they share fig notes- I think that will be a star pairing!

Mantes-la-Jolie is almost shockingly minty at first: it's an ultra-refreshing wintergreen blast of eucalyptus-mint-basil-bergamot that you might expect to come across as artificial or toothpaste-y, but it's amazingly natural. That lovely, invigorating opening quickly develops through the other notes in a tidy sequence, growing sweeter with green currant leaf and warm fig before the cedar wood creeps in and it starts to mellow into mild notes of mate, honeyed jasmine, and faint ginger that somehow combine to create the effect of a complex but subtle woody vanilla. Normally, both mint and vanilla would be a "no" from me but the presentation of every facet of this scent is so original and interesting, it's got me hooked. The initial notes do fade fast, but the delicious drydown sticks around at a low level for a solid 6+ hours, periodically surprising me with how good I smell. I love this one, a truly unique aromatic take on a green fig. Pricey, but I appreciate that Astier de Villatte gives you varied size options at different price points: 100, 30, and 10 ml. I'd like to try more from this house.

What sorcery is this? This is the first fragrance I want to gatekeep. I need to smell like this for the rest of my life and noone else can have it. It's an aromatic aria, elevating, with a fresh, green, clean, grounded, so sexy (sensual, actually) vibe, and I can't for the life of me pinpoint what flower is the opera singer in this. Yes, I can smell all the notes here but it's something from my childhood home's garden. Argh, it's driving me insane. Mint is, of course, there but it's a loving hug not a distant handshake. It's the fig, green notes and jasmine in the heart, along with the mysterious flower mentioned above) that make this soar. It lifts your mood in a second. The ultimate compliment getter, right smack in the middle of unisex. Poor longevity, two hours. I don't care because it's a masterpiece.

When I am empress, I shall invite courtiers to walk ahead of me misting the air with this juicy green brilliance. I could dive into the opening, stay there for days. Swimming in lush bright greenery - mint, basil, bergamot, eucalyptus. A clear pool in a bright green mythic forest. Just the best ever. Though (cue tears) this lasts only about 30 minutes. After this it becomes a simple, generic but gentlemanly cologne. After a few hours some of the citrus brightness returns (lovely suprise!), until it fades entirely a few hours after this. So beautiful. .... Edit... having worn this many many days, I rescind my judgement on the generic gentlemanly cologne. Hours later I still appreciate the freshness. It's quickly becoming a love and one of my most worn fragrances.

Reviewing a bottle from 2025 .Mantes La Jolie was launched in 2023. Transportive fresh aromatic masterpiece. If the garden of Eden had a scent, this would be it. Mantes opens fresh herbal with basil and subtle mint as well as bergamot. Fragrant eucalyptus and fig leaves add dry green notes; slightly floral with natural cedar at the base. This conjures the most beautiful green dewy mediterranean garden on a sunny day. Not bitter or medicinal. Perfectly blended and natural smelling. Sylvie Fischer deserves accolades for this beauty. Quality- excellent Unisex Performance- excellent Mantes de Jolie is definitely worth all the hype. It is one of those rare fragrances that is unique, stunning and has good performance. My favorite discovery this year. 10/10

I’m currently vibing with the heart notes as I write this. The initial blast of mint is intense, but I love how it develops. Dreamy and sweetly herbal for your earth goddess era. Edit: 3 hours later and the tiniest dab is still there! Herbal perfumes usually perform terribly on me, but Mantes La Jolie has had good longevity so far. Edit 2: Okay, this has exceptional longevity for an herbal fragrance, 5-6 hours for me. I’m very surprised at the reviews that say they can’t detect it after an hour. It may be just that it’s sheer the whole time. Edit 3: I discovered that this is absolutely not meant for humid NYC summers. It evaporates immediately. 💔

basil-mint-cucumber gin cocktail with fresh ice in a frozen glass, squeeze of lemon juice. tincture of sinus-clearing, fever-curing medieval herbal medicine. ice water with all the trimmings. a blast of high altitude air. fresh, barefoot, outdoorsy, inexplicably sexy in the way that spoonfeeding a shivering somebody a mouthful of cough syrup would be sexy, or sucking a lemony throat lozenge or drinking crisp cold springwater is sexy. crystalline cold, leafy herbal, sensuous with a bite of ginger. smells like it's good for you. i wish it lasted longer, that's the only downside - fades away in an hour or so like nothing even happened.

This is the green, minty fragrance of my dreams. I don't care one bit about longevity. I want to spray this while I am taking a shower. It definitely gets me in the mood to start some basil and tomato plants. . . It's fantastic. The mint is not the dreaded toothpaste mint - it is fresher and more natural. It smells like the wild mint that won't stop growing in your backyard and may be too tough to use in tea. The fig is there - but barely. Hard to pick other solitary notes - this is well blended to create a lush, verdant (if fleeting) experience.

As someone who typically dislikes the medicinal properties of herbal-adjacent perfumes, this was so beautiful and performed so well on my tricky skin. Burst of minty freshness that settles down into a tomato leaf (?) not nauseating or earthy whatsoever. I detected the dry down notes after about 1 hour of wear and it turned sweet and woodsy out of nowhere and I loved it. I always ask for jasmine green tea with no sugar and extra boba, and it smelled exactly like my order. So comforting, yet bold. I will definitely get a small spray of this.

Love at first sniff. It is uber minty and fresh with the lightest dab of fig to sweeten the blend. Great sillage and longevity 6 + hours. Kooky analogy but track with me on this....You just ate a delicious meal that had loads of garlic and you need something to freshen your breath. One piece of the mintiest gum and you're feeling confidently like yourself again. This is a feel good - much happiness scent. I wore it to a distillery tasting and felt perfectly blended with the best mixed drinks in bar none.

If anyone is familiar with Cire Trudon’s Abd el Kader candle (a really refreshing Moroccan mint tea scent), this has the same vibe. If you ever wished they made a perfume version of the Abd el Kader I think this would be it. It’s herbal and green, sweetened by background florals and quite sophisticated. I was a bit hesitant to try Mantes La Jolie on skin at first since I had a strong association of the scent profile with a candle, but this wears really nicely on skin.

Really great, smells like high quality minted tea or mint infused water. As it dries down some very beautiful green notes emerge. If you’re wondering, the style is much different to Eldos and this probably nails spearmint more realistically. this is just much more delicate and higher quality but with that being said performance is not good :( I still like eldo better and would probably not buy a bottle of this for the price

The first time I smelled this perfume I felt like I needed to be barefoot somewhere immediately. It smells like you’ve been rolling around in an herb garden all day, while making out with your crush. It’s fresh, green, and just the right amount of unruly. Basil and wild mint tangled with soft florals. It also layers nicely - I sometimes spray a little Death of Ladies Man w it (thanks Maddy).

I love this perfume, it's my favorite mint fragrance. Be careful about how you spray, because too little and it won't be enough, too much in the same spot and the mint takes over. So "bathing" in it seems to be the right solution. Would be a 10 if it performed better, but still well worth the purchase of a 100ml bottle. I'm in love.

This is a perfect perfume ... it’s piercing greenery. Photo-real mint and basil crushed with a mortar and pestle. A non alcoholic cocktail. It’s SO good! I like to layer this with Saskia or Madagascan Jasmine from Grandiflora. It’s linear but it’s an essential in my collection.

i adore this and wanna bathe in it but it’s so god damn ephemeral i just can’t justify repurchasing when i eventually run out (which will happen soon because it requires like... 10 sprays to function as a normal perfume) rip

A truly beautiful garden scent. It immediately reminds me of springtime—when I toss fresh herbs into my salads and everything feels light and alive. It captures that exact moment in the most fresh, open-window kind of way.

It’s kinda a crime that this is $300 and only lasts like an hour bc it might be one of my favorite things I’ve ever smelled. Perfectly minty in a real way rather than a toothpaste way. Fresh and sweet and vegetal.

Mantes la Jolie by Astier de Villatte has received quite a bit of hype online so I decided to find out if it is as wonderful as some seem to think. I've both heard and read that it is very "green" and not very floral...that it is minty and green as well as bright and clean. While I can agree that it definitely has some greenness to it, I do not agree that it is not also floral as well. On my skin, Mantes la Jolie opens with mint and some citrus, which quickly shifts to a green, "nettles" type smell. This nettles smelling note is not very long lived, but it reminds me slightly of L'Occitane's Herbae, which has a similar type of greenness, but whereas this greenness lasts throughout the wear with the L'Occitane perfume, it is short lived in Mante la Jolie. Some might call it a "tomato leaf" greenness, which could be accurate for some noses, but to mine, it smells of nettles. Once this greenness settles down, Mantes la Jolie moves into a melange of smoothness from jasmine and fig. The fig sweetens the jasmine in a diffused sort of way so that the jasmine isn't as indolic as normal, but it is still there on my skin and I definitely feel like Mantes la Jolie is more of a floral on my skin than it is a green fragrance just based on how long the jasmine/fig heart notes last on me. MLJ then transitions slightly with the addition of mate tea in the dry down and base notes and it stays there until it fades to a skin scent. Overall this is a thumbs up for me as I like the perfume, but it isn't what I was expecting, which was a green fragrance and I definitely feel that it is more of a floral overall based on how it performs on my skin.

Harshly aromatic off the rip, like snapping a handful of different herbs and pouring alcohol on them to bring out the smell. It's even a bit acidic and chemical that from the start I wouldn't think to wear this. However! For me the mint actually comes in a bit later. That sharpness mellows out eventually to reveal the cool mint scent. Agreeing with everyone that you shouldn't expect a toothpastey mint interpretation here. It's cooling* not arctic cold, and clearly mint and not something like pine. Mentholated balms do come to mind for me but it doesn't feel like I have muscle cramps and am slathered with balms and creams. It's hard to pinpoint I think because you don't come across mint-centric scents often but this is really something. However on a further update for me it dooooes teeter in between mint perfume and minty foot powder. I'll wear it outside and see how it continues to morph. Among the similar fragrances listed above, 100% agree this has a similar profile to L'Ombre Dans Leau in how Mantes La Jolie also comes across as wet and dewy to me. Also worth noting too as I'm writing, on my skin it's already mellowed and opening up to something gentle and minty, while on the test strip I tested it on, it's lingering on the realistic green plant-y smell. Updated literally after 15 minutes of wear, from sharp aromatic, to a brief. herb garden, and then soothing mint, it has made its final course on me already into something close to faint shaving cream :( Never smelled a scent morph so much and so quickly too.

Bitter citrus, loads of minty nose-opening herbs, a camphoraceous note (probably eucalyptus), a liveliness similar to tomato leaf and an obvious black currant leaf. I actually think this is the main vein of the scent, that herbal, bitter, medicinal feel... It doesn't resemble most fig fragrances I've smelled. The aromatic and herbal quality here is so strong that you need to make an effort to focus on the other notes. As the scent goes on it smooths out, but that green and beautiful feel is still there. It also feels like a dewy garden. I liked it. The only thing that bugs me about this scent is that blackcurrant leaf... The ammonia feel comes and goes. Sometimes I catch it, sometimes I don't... This is a lovely water nymph scent if that water nymph lived in a pond surrounded by sweet mint and soft watery florals. There is a slight funky earthiness and brininess in the start that dissipates fairly quickly once the sweetened mint and florals take over. That mint is really lovely, but as time goes on the basil comes more to the forefront. Now you’re a water nymph surrounded by an herb garden. You sit at the edge of the crystal clear water biting into a fig. Lovely, delicate, and incredibly fleeting. I wish it projected just a little more so I could really envelop myself in this little scent story.

Very green, herbal, minty, basil-y on first spray reminding me of Guerlain's Herba Fresca but more natural smelling with more complexity. There's also a bit of a musky fruit vibe like black currant or blackberry bush smell. I can see the Diptyque resemblance as well. As it dries down I smell a dried sweet grass smell. It smells like late summer or early Fall and is a bit sweet at this stage. I like it a lot. It's an ambience rather than a oerfume, but it's quite evocative and comforting to me.

This fragrance is really special - minty, fresh, basily-y in a way that is slightly culinary, but then it's mixed with a slightly sweet floral that softens it out. It smells robust and confident but is not at all overpowering. A very sunny daytime scent, very unique and full of good vibes. Love it.

This is a very naturalistic green and aromatic scent that smells like dew covered foliage in Springtime. The blackcurrant note is reminiscent of Diptyque's L'Ombre dans L'eau. This smells calming and spa like with medicinal connotations from the minty properties. Pleasant, meditative and serious.

for me personally it smells almost exclusively of nettle; vibrant, lush, dewy, ultra-realistic garden; decent longevity for a herbal scent. aggressive opening, if you like that sort of thing; simple composition, nothing redundant, minimalism at its best; 9/10

The first minty fragrance that truly clears my nose. It's uniquely green and spicy. I expected something closer to You or Someone Like You by ELDO, but this one is more savoury and has a more natural green scent.

It opens aromatic and fresh with a twist of mint, basil and bergamot. Short whiffs of ginger, jasmine, mate enter, rotating harmoniously quickly and surrounded by a soft, suffused but not sweet aura. Probably linked by the fig note. It smells nice and natural, but shortly after it all settles into a cedar wood that overwhelms and bores me. The soft hand was greatly appreciated but... I only half enjoyed it.

This really surprised me, in a good way. The blue juice threw me off seeing as how this is a fresh, green scent. The opening is just that—fresh. Mint, lemon, fig leaves and bright bergamot are ever so gently wrapped with eucalyptus. I get a bit of pine / fir but that note isn't listed. It's so beautifully balanced and watery that this is the only cologne type fragrance I'll probably ever wear. The best part is after it settles, I get lily of the valley or water lily (not so much jasmine). During this phase it slightly reminds of FM's Synthetic Jungle only Mantes La Jolie is way more sophisticated and subtle. If you like citrus/mint/water floral (or synthetic jungle) I'd check this one out. I might even make this my next full bottle purchase—even though there is absolutely no hype around it nor is there a single review of it!!! Huh? Guess if a tiktok influencer isn't posting about it, then it's invisible?

Just until recently, Spirituelle from Mad et Len was my highest-ranking natural mint fragrance. It’s really good. Mantes la Jolie is even better. It has touches of bergamot and lemon, which makes it brighter, fresher, and complements the mint just perfectly. Very herbal with the natural mint and basil. I think the fig also contributes to a sense of freshness underneath, but it’s not prominent. It’s not a fig composition, it’s all about the mint and basil. Reminiscent of a minty, summer drink with lots of ice and lemon. Just lovely. Mint itself is not cold. People are mixing it up with impressions from the trigeminal receptors. It has nothing to do with natural mint. A very soft texture, signifying good materials (not harsh or synthetic at all). The set of notes is just perfect. Fresh and natural. A gem.

At the intersection of herb, vegetable, and berry gardens, La Jolie is a fresh-and-green experience. At first spray, I get the tartness of lemon and the zestiness of begamot. As they recided - rather quickly I dare to say ad here citruses are not extended - a mixture of mint (95%) and basil (5% or less) feels as refreshing as peppermint. I get the impression of a faint tomato leaf as if the perfumer did not want to utilize this note "full spectrum". There should also be some calendula to whcih follows a faint floral accord (mainly jasmine-like). All rests on a woody base. With very close to skin projection and limited longevity, Mantes La Jolie failed to impress me. There are for my taste other scents with this olfacory profile that are more complex, yet retaining that "natural" feeling.

Spring elegance in a bottle. A little classier than Torino 21 which is similar but with Herba Fresca at discounters for $75 both the Torino and this have diminishing returns... Mantes la jolie the most elegant Torino21 for performance junkies Herba Fresca the OG and value for money Yes totally redundant for most ppl to own more than one of the three. The similarity to Ichnusa is there but through what seems like a shared fig accord overall this leans way closer to Torino21. For me 4/5 and slightly overhyped by Steven from Luckyscent on youtube and instagram but still beautiful nonetheless. If you own none of the three definitely try all of them if it’s accessible if not just go with Herba Fresca.

The freshest, greenest, herbal, minty scent you could possibly ask for. It's not my speed because it does tread the line of some men's body washes, but it doesn't smell cheap in any sense. It's soft and well blended with light fruity components. I love the dry down after the mint dissipates slightly and a cozy but bright tea-like aroma comes in. I definitely prefer this to ELdO's "You or Someone..." as it's significantly less sharp and actually smells more like crushing mint + other herbs in your hands. Also, the juice is such a nice blue color which makes my little dabber sample look like a mystical potion of sorts. Ps. my dad likes this. I think most guys would like this.

I love the scent enough that I would overlook it's poor longevity and sillage. It reminds me of my childhood, visiting my grandma in the village and trecking through aromatic bushes in search of adventure (and an outhouse!). I'll follow the advice to layer it with floral perfumes to improve it's longevity. Edit: I went ahead and bought the bottle after sampling it, and it lasts quite long on me. A wonderful surprise.

Mint is radiating to your eyes on the begining, it's not nice. I don't have Synthetic Jungle comparison, cause there is no lily in the valley, but surprisingly, the whole effect is realistic, fresh, tomato leaf. Amazing, cause I hate mint in perfumes, but here mint note is building with others fresh tomato leaf smell

I blind bought this on the strength of these reviews and love it. Very safe, very delightful. You will smell like a dew soaked tomato patch with companion planted european, vietnamese mint and lemon blossom. Also, if you layer it with Andrea Maack Coven you will actually fly into the sixth dimension.

On me it’s fresh sprigs of mint & orange juice, very pretty, fresh, green & woody I also get something like tomato leaf giving it a humid vegetal tone & a tiny hint of spice as well, like cinnamon or clove Strong like but not the greatest performance, between medium and skin scent projection

This smells very natural, but in the best way possible. Basil, mint, black currant leaves and all kind of other weeds mixed together. But its not just fresh; there is some depth I can sense which makes this scent very inviting and dynamic. Longevity of this fragrance is great too.

I feel like I'm brushing my teeth in the garden when I wear this! And I don't hate it. I really like the spicy, aromatic undertone. Really good if you like mint and ginger notes.

This is very similar to Pacific Chill all that's really missing is the apricot. I don't get the Orange in PC but I smelt it today and all I was getting was Pacific Chill.

What an absolute, soothing, spa-like masterpiece. Scents like this truly re-invigorate this hobby. I cannot wait to smell their other offerings.
