In Extremis

I just bought a full bottle from Crime Passionel after testing it for a while. I really like it. It's dark, leathery and woody and driven a lot by incense and these green notes I associate with camomile and roadside green aromatic summer weeds. This is by no means your typical green male scent. My girlfriend says it reminds her of "old books but in a good way". It is a bit divisive I guess. It is not the most mainstream fragrance. It is perhaps a bit hate it or love it I guess. I think it can be unisex but leans quite a bit male. Especially the opening is a bit daunting but after a while I think it is very pleasing and sweet. A woman could maybe rock this if she wanted, but it's not typically feminine at all. To me, the performance is very, very good. Good silage and hyper long lasting - this is one of the absolutely best performing fragrances I have. I can smell it on skin the next day and on clothes it last forever. The comments below about bad longevity and smelling of ashtray I cannot understand at all. @Ttan_o It's funny how different impressions we have of Nabati. Because I have an official sample here and it is absolutely beastmode nuclear. It is so strong I can hardly wear it. It clings to skin and clothing like nothing I have ever expereinced. In Extremis too is so potent I only spray two small sprays when using it to not suffocate all of my surroundings.

If you are reading this, you most likely know that Astrophil & Stella’s In Extremis is a fragrance which draws inspiration from the extreme contrasts of Caravaggio’s art AND life. A homage that feels deliberate, coming from Imprezzabile as it may fit well with his "shy observer" persona. For the first 30 minutes, In Extremis evokes a personal childhood memory: a dimly lit shoemaker’s basement, where the humid air was thick with the scent of leather and mastic. Here, a touch of galbanum adds some green sharpness, briefly reminiscent of Beach Hut Man, though here it feels more subdued. As the initial intensity softens, light genderless floral notes (among them a faint trace of sweet chamomile) start to emerge, piercing through the darker base. This interplay between brightness and depth mirrors Caravaggio’s signature contrasts, explaining the fragrance narration. Eventually, the florals recede, giving way to a drydown dominated by leather (somehow similar to Nouveau Monde), oakmoss, woods and ethereal frankincense. While I haven’t worn In Extremis enough to assess its projection, the quality of the composition is substantial and it lasts 8+ hours on skin. I will update my review, once I become more familiar with it. What I can say now is that In Extremis was my first encounter with Imprezzabile’s work, and it won't be the last.

Looking at the notes, I would have dismissed this out of hand. But I got a sample and am in LOVE. So smooth and sophisticated, the leather and oud are not exactly subdued but blend with the florals and musk to create a fragrance greater than the sum of its parts. Will update with longevity. Update: got a bottle from the house's website...aside from tracking information in Italian, everything went smoothly. Longevity is great and they also sent samples of some of their other fragrances that I have now fallen for.

This ain't for the faint-hearted, this is about as ruthless and aggressive and unapologetic as the most unapologetic Amouage can get. Dark, mysterious vampire's castle interior. Did anyone watch Werewolf by Night 2022 special presentation? That's how I imagine the home in which they competed smells like. Morbid, dark, churchy woods, incense-y, very animalic. Dreadful, but in a complimentary way. This is true niche perfumery, not for everyone and I don't see how will anyone go through a full bottle. About as wearable as Interlude Man.

It smells quite unusual, most like an ashtray. But perhaps I would have been able to appreciate it better if the smell had not been so faint. It disappears practically immediately, it’s not even clear whether you’re wearing the scent or not. I had previously bought another scent from this brand, Nabati, and it fell off me in the same way, but I decided it was an accident. Now I can only think that this is a very strange approach of the brand to the longevity of its perfumes. You can't call your product Extrait de Parfum when it lasts as long as Eau Parfumée or even less. Not worth the money spent, despite the impressive packaging.

@mshilov I completely agree with you. Nabati was a significant disappointment for me as well. While this house seems to produce beautifully original scents, they unfortunately lack longevity. Initially, I suspected that my bottle of Nabati might have had batch issues. Pass

With art I also sometimes cry: not out of sadness, mind you, but because I am of the opinion that some works are so beautiful that they move me, that they move strings in my soul that I sometimes forget I have. The first time I cried when I saw a painting was by Caravaggio, The Madonna of the Pilgrims, in the church of Sant'Agostino, in Rome. That raw realism, the scenographic light that made space in the darkness, and that so different, impactful style, I still remember them today. In extremis it is a fragrance that aims to recreate the smell that a painting by Caravaggio might have, also highlighting the artist's personality: dark, dusty, with a light chamomile to accompany the woods and the incensed background. It is also said that when it was created by Meo Fusciuni, due to its complex pyramid, this creation had such a precarious balance that it reached the extreme. Definitely structured, dense, smoky and dark. A glimmer of light to illuminate it. If you love artistic creations, don't miss out on trying it, it will take you into an out-of-the-ordinary environment.

Starts very green and bitter, and later turns to a green slightly leathery scent. To me galbanum is by far the most prominent note. If you like galbanum, this might be for you.
