Shanghai 1930

When I first smelled this on paper, I instantly decided to buy it. It was a quick decision. I got glorious green tea and plum, two of my favorite notes, and I was sold. A few hours later I put it on and I thought, oh no. On skin, this is much more tuberose and magnolia than I anticipated, and not exactly what I was looking for. Had I made a mistake? I love tuberose and magnolia for others, but they're rarely for me. A few days after that, I walked into an enclosed space where, unbeknownst to me, Shanghai 1930 had been sprayed a few hours earlier. "Oh did you make tea??" The smell of freshly brewed tea filled the air. But no. It was Shanghai 1930. I've now worn it two days in a row. I find I can flip a switch in my brain to choose how I perceive it. One switch is the tuberose and magnolia, the other switch is the tea and plum, which has been an absolute joy to experience. It lasts absolutely all day long, I applied it at 8 a.m. this morning (three sprays only -- wrists and back of neck), and I am smelling it as I write this, now past 5 p.m. All of this is to say, this is an objectively beautiful perfume. And how you perceive it may just be however you choose. What power!

Shanghai 1930 is perhaps the most impressive tea fragrance in terms of its 'longevity and strong projection' for me. Niche perfumes often feature tea notes that are light and airy, or come with a milky creaminess, or lean towards a gourmand style. But Shanghai 1930 is different. Its scent, centered around tuberose blended with freshly dried green tea leaves that have been roasted and dried on a hot pan, is powerful, diffusive, and rich with the aroma of dried tea leaves. I detect a subtle, slightly tart sweetness, perhaps from the lingering essence of mango? Jasmine and magnolia notes are easily discernible after 15 minutes. After about 2 hours, the fragrance still projects very well. When I met friends, everyone could smell this fragrance and commented that it was truly captivating and quite unique, something they had never smelled before – which really pleased me. If you're looking for a tea and floral scent with incredible longevity and projection (around 9+ hours on skin and 12+ hours on clothes), then Shanghai 1930 and Atelier Cologne Philtre Ceylan are must-haves.

I decided to buy it because my wife loves the floral scents from tea and tea leaves. I mean blind buy. The result is that the first 10 minutes after 2 sprays is filled with the scent of mango tea with a little sourness and powdery sweetness. Then a bomb of white floral mix, most prominently lily, tuberose and lily lol. barely any green tea presence at all. Sometimes you will be able to recognize a little bit of other flowers in the wind like ylang, magnolia, orchid, ... but all are just background for tuberosa flower. Finally dry down to the sweetness of vanilla and the nutty of tonka bean, the fatty background of sandalwood, the warmth of amber. Luckily my wife quite likes it but i think it's more suited to rainy days and weather around 20 degrees, really cold to temper the beast, a very sweet white floral bomb.

This is currently my partner’s signature fragrance, and I am so blessed that it is. Such a beautiful medley of florals, with a gorgeous opening of mango. Some of the amber and wood shines through a bit after settling, making this a complex and evolving scent. Also to mention, the longevity and projection is incredible. 9/10

Beautiful scent, long lasting, tea notes really come through and the fruity notes were pleasant as well. Combines all the categories of fragrances I like into an elegant mixture.
