Iris

I’ll open with the fact that I, as well found this at a discount store. Poor naked thing had no box, just bottle, and as I do so often, I took a chance. As luck would have it, my luck was in. I am the most ardent fan of Iris. I adore it as one would a beautiful acquaintance, knowing that too much closeness wouldn’t do well, but still the fascination is there. The obsession. Often I find that Iris fragrances for me are more “orris” or “powder” maybe more rooty, dirty, or unpersonably over clean. Myself, I’m in love with the relationship between the Iris blossom and the sun. That’s where this fragrance fits in. I was a bit disappointed on first spray, it was earthy, waxy, the smell of cold rhizomes awaiting warmth. Pure, starched white. Rather cool, and rooty. As time would have it, I soon welcomed a new warmth. Tonka, adding rich depth with no sweetness, cardamom, giving me the feel of sunshine on skin. The cold rhizome had sensed the love of the sun, and reached, reached to unfurl her silken petals, revealing a tenderness in the manner of violets, cold, becoming barely warm in the shade. Green, and not quite sweet. The entire composition opens up on warm skin in the manner I always look forward to, that of a blossom opening to the ardent attention of the sun. My Iris obsession finds satisfaction here, she is neither too cool and aloof, or powdered and overdone. The structure of notes coalesces into an absolutely captivating whole. Bringing to mind, cutting the actual bloom, the silken petals & stamen, velvet, fluffy beards , and warmth. Nothing as of yet has come as close to the sunlit petals of actual Iris flower for me, perhaps save ADP Iris Nobile. In my humble opinion this is as great as the much adored Irisss, or ISM. The thing is, despite the legend of the aforementioned, I find myself reaching for, and enjoying this far, more often. Simply said, it brings me joy. The same joy as hands in the earth, and blossoms in the hand, with my mother & son. I’d recommend snapping this up before it disappears. I’m sure I’ll regret that when it comes time to find a backup! But I’d probably trade Irisss for it. A perfect fragrance to welcome spring!

Absolutely beautiful soft spicy floral on soft woods

This is such an easy going “purple” scent. It’s what I reach for in spring when I can’t make up my mind. My nose mostly picks up the iris, violet vetiver and rose. I’m typically drawn to purple, pink and white florals and vetiver so this really works in my wheelhouse. If this perfume were a month it would be April. Cooler weather, a little rain here and there, flowers beginning to bloom, more daylight. Wearing Iris by atelier bloem makes me feel content.

I found this on clearance at Marshall’s. I knew it would be similar to Pharrell Williams “girl” based on the heavy iris notes. I do find that the two are reminiscent but the dry down reminds me of Burberry “body”. Personally, I wish there was a more milky note in this to smooth everything out but I can see this being a unisex fragrance. It definitely leans to more traditionally feminine but I could see anyone wearing this well.
