Bois Blonds

This used to be my signature scent. I got my first big bottle back in 2012 on a trip to Las Vegas. I was searching and smelling everything at Neiman Marcus, and the fragrance lady was so patient with me. After around 15 mins of sniffing around the whole fragrance department, she introduced me to this new brand, Atelier Cologne. Back then there were only about 6 or 7 scents from them. I remember telling her I preferred more fresh and unisex fragrance, she proceeded to show me the Oolang Infini, Orange Sanguine, Trefle Pur and Bois Blonds. Back then I wasn’t very into woody scents as my impression usually are quite heavy and very masculine (think cedar, pine and sandalwood). But when she handed me the blotter of Bois Blonds and told me the inspiration was driftwood, I was hooked. Bois Blonds is very airy and clean, reminded me of L’eau D’issey but less aquatic. At the time, I had not experienced many perfume houses, I was mostly using mass fashion brand fragrances. So it was quite unique to me. To this day, I still have a 1/3 full 200ml bottle in my collection. And it is my third bottle, after all these years. I rarely use up a fragrance and for me to repurchase twice says a lot. Even though I don’t reach for it much anymore as I have grown out of it, it will always be in my collection and have a special place in my heart as it had gone through so much life with me. This is an easy to wear, all seasons, all occasions kind of scent. Not complex, just clean, airy and classy.

UPDATE: For some weird reason the staying power has been much better when I spray from my 200mL bottle compared to the 7.5mL purse spray. Bois Blonds is pleasant, light, uplifting, and versatile. This is one of the two best Atelier out of the seven I received in my voyage collection, the other being Orange Sanguine. I love it! Contrary to what everyone says I found it to have the least chemical opening (yup looking right at you Oolang Infini) that replicates the real smell of orange pith has balances perfectly between citrus, floral and woody notes. It transforms from floral/citrus to woody notes quietly. I usually wear about 4 sprays and often before I know it Bois Blond would turn into a very nice and real blonde maple note that is so smooth and comforting. It is indeed a very natural scent through and through though so not great for people who like to smell "fumey" or "incense-y". I went through my purse spray so quickly it was unbelievable. I could wear it anytime, anywhere. Recommended!

I went looking for this after reading a review in a newspaper, something I rarely do (going after a scent due to a fashion review, not reading a newspaper...). I sniffed through most of Atelier Cologne's collection, and chose Bois Blonds. I think I smell mostly vetiver and a slight neroli+pink pepper combination in the background. It's really lovely and I got a lot of compliments on this, both from men and women. You can hardly offend anyone with this scent. One of my dear loves and frequently used perfume. Longevity and sillage are both moderately good.

An abundantly lush carpetting of citrus flowers and pink pepper to give lots of lift--the opening plays much like strong bergamot with a slightly velvety nuance. Incense and musk start to warm Bois Blonds with a little sweetness, giving a little softness to the edges as the fragrance dries down. Woods and vetiver, a clean, earthy base. Nice enough and fresh for summer. Nothing revolutionary, but one of the more comfortable cologne-type fragrances out there that doesn't give a piercing twang.

I am part of the blessed people that has skin which magically carries this fragrance through a work day. Hence for me this is a fantastic modern summer work/office scent. The neroli is modernised with the use of woods and any metallic harshness attributed to neroli isn't present. I also enjoy grand neroli however on my skin that scent doesn't last. Hence this for me is suitable substitute. Don't blind buy, try it on ur skin and see if it lasts. If it does, go for it ;)

I don't like citruses, i don't like "fresh" and clean smelling fragrances, I'm not kidding, but I simply LOVE THIS! From the first moment I put this on my wrist I can't keep my nose away from it, it's delicate, unique and simply lovely, vetiver does wonders on my skin and I'm extremely pleased with what I'm feeling. Bravo!

I love Bois Blonds. It's just like cooking, a simple and common dish is always the hardest to make, that you have to have everything just right to be perfect (ok as close to it as possible), which is actually surprisingly rare. This is it.

I love it, I love it, I love it! It is simply delicious and it is soooo me ;) It reminds me a little bit of "Pleasures" and "Au Lac". Wonderful fragrance for spring!

If I said I love this fragrance it wouldn't be an accurate description. Now there may be others on the market; however, from my experience this is the most unique citrus based fragrance I have smelled. First lets talk about the "cologne" as you may know Atelier has cologne absolute which makes these things perform like an EDP. Atelier's citrus is so natural smelling you often think you have rubbed your skin with real fruit. Next because of the spiciness added by the pink peppercorn and the insence this transforms from a very nice citrus to a very sophisticated fragrance. With Bois you can easily detect a good portion of the notes, they are blended well yet stand out. I absolutely adore this fragrance. It is a spicy citrus with depth and uniqueness. I would rate this as: Sillage/Projection - 3.5 (about average) Longevity - 5 Scent - 5+ Versatility - 5 Price Point - 5 (buying the big bottle would be well worth it) It is also a great unisex but seems to be more masculine to me I would give the edge to the masculinity on the scale but definitely a female could wear this without second guessing it. Overall I give it about 4.6 well worth every penny. Give me a little more sillage/projection and it would be an easy 5.

Bois Blonds is a slight departure from the citrus scents of Atelier Cologne, but it is not as jarringly different as the likes of Vanille Insensée. BB is a nice woody-neroli scent, featuring slightly fruity soft white florals, grounded by woody notes and dry, hay-like vetiver. I was excited about the incense note, but as wst below says, there is none detectable to my nose. Inoffensive and simple, BB is a soft, pretty neroli scent, nothing exceptional. BB opens with orangy neroli and a nice, sweet-spicy pink pepper note that gives it a little edge. This is an unusual accord, and the most noteworthy thing about this scent, but the pink pepper is fleeting. Neroli and orange blossom remain, joined fairly quickly by grassy vetiver. Simple but high-quality, it smells beautiful. It is joined by woody notes as it develops further, fading to a musky skin scent with remnants of neroli. Sillage is moderate and longevity weak-to-moderate. Feminine-leaning to my nose due to the sweet blossoms, this is a lovely example of a neroli scent done well. Ideal for daytime wear during warm weather. Good quality, simple and effective. Probably full-bottle worthy if the longevity was better. 3/5.

On the official Atelier Cologne website this is listed together with my house favorite Oolang Infini under the musk category. Given how safe the house is as a whole and how much I enjoyed Oolang immediately picked up a 200ml I found for a ridiculous price online. Spraying it on I was actually a bit perplexed as it is very different to what I expected. It definitely opens up with neroli, but it's not your usual soapy neroli accord, it's quite an edgy neroli, peppery, tart and bergamot-like and very very clean and fresh. While you smell the neroli for about 5 minutes the scent rapidly morphs into something very different, essentially a 'neo'-woody accord, aka this type of holographic fresh bright wood accord that appears to be based around iso e but with some smokiness and slight leathery vetiver facet, while also musky and linen-like. It's super light and ethereal, invisible almost. I'm overall happy with my heavily discounted blind buy, but had I payed the original price I may have returned it for something more substantial. However it does make for a nice fresh woody warm weather scent.

Bois Blonds is another Atelier Cologne (like Cedrat Enivrant) that's light, pleasant, and generally agreeable woody/citrus combination, with a slightly greater emphasis on floral than most colognes like Cedrat Enivrant. There's some neroli, plenty of citrus, a hint of pepper, and some generic woods. It's difficult to argue with this fragrance being worn often, year-round, in a variety of situations, and with many sprays. It's pretty and not likely to offend. Whether it's worth springing for a full bottle certainly depends on how it stacks up against similar fresh fragrances. Performance is mediocre, though, with modest projection but satisfactory longevity, and any performance issues are slightly easier to bear, given the availability of 200ml bottles, though one might expect cologne-like fragrances to be availability in bigger-than-average (>125ml) bottles anyway. Another nice entry from Atelier that I'll have to try some more in order to determine if it's something worth buying, but definitely something nice to wear that might be someone's favorite. 7 out of 10

I'm not one for musks, but this feels light and airy on me. I love neroli and several of the people in my life do not, but I think this is a very decent gateway for "the haters." That neroli starts citrusy and has a sharpness from the pink pepper. It dries down to be quite soft but still leans a touch masculine—if that makes sense—almost like a powdery wood. I find it interesting because it's something I'm not super keen on, but here it just works. Since I heard they stopped shipping to the US, I'm glad to have snagged a 30ml bottle from lucky scent while I could. I feel the price is great for such a well-respected brand, and who doesn't love finding a decent scent to add to their collection without breaking the bank?

Tested from advent calendar sample. Hmmm, I get sandalwood from this which fits with the "Bois Blonds" name but it's not in the notes. Anyway, sandalwood is what I get with some green vegetal notes and soapiness which must be the vetiver and neroli. Pepper is there a touch in the very initial stage but is fleeting. I get no incense in this one personally. It is unisex but this one leans a tiny bit more masculine to me than most of their range. It's not bad, a bit too dry and dusty wood for my tastes and if you want great soapy neroli Prada does that better for cheaper (esp Infusion D'Homme if you can still get it). I think if you want a similar softer vibe you would be better off with Vanilla Insensee from this line.

It's a fresh, light very summery fragrance. It has the same 'vibe' as Mugler Cologne (at least the opening). Neroli and green, very comforting and invigorating scent. Then I get the woods and a light incense. The neroli lingers lightly in the air. With the musk it becomes more soapy. I own Bois Blonds but it took me quite a while to review the perfume because on one hand this scent may be perceived as 'safe' and 'unoriginal' but on the other I really, really like it. PS: I like to couple Bois Blonds with Tokyo Bloom. The woodiness of one combined with the green 'springtime' of the other creates a fantastic mix!

I think this one is very aptly named - Bois Blonds really is all about light, fresh woods. I mostly get something like living wood, or maybe freshly cuts wood boards, mixed with lots of vetiver, and accentuated just right by none-sweet floral notes and a well-balanced pink pepper accord. As is Atelier Cologne's trademark, it's a very transparent scent, light and airy and perfect for summer without becoming unsubstantial. Longevity is alright for a cologne as well. So this is really lovely, another outstanding effort from this house, only maybe slightly too much to the masculine side for my own taste.

Very zesty and peppery with a bit of a sweet floral hint. I originally tried this and didn't like it too much since it seemed too masculine and sharp. HOwever, I tried it again today and really like it. It might be because I tried Bergamote Soleil earlier, and while I really liked the smell, I was disappointed with the weak sillage and longevity, even when applied on clothes. Bois Blonds, in comparison, lasts longer and has better sillage. It isn't as citrusy as Bergamote Soleil, but does have a hint of it. An interesting scent. Would like to have a small bottle of it.

Bois Blonds is a light and refreshing scent suitable for warmer weather. The cologne is fresh, woody and aromatic, with lots of vetiver, especially in the base. The neroli and orange blossom give a clean citrusy freshness. There is also that 'signature' woody-citrus feel that's present throughout many of Atelier's colognes. Well-blended and excellent for a staple fragrance, but not one of Atelier's best, in my opinion. They've already proven themselves to be capable of much more complex and unusual scents than this. Soft to moderate sillage, lasts for about 3 hours.

A slightly citrusy, slightly peppery, light woody fragrance. The incense here is generic Chinese temple incense. I think an autumn fairy would smell like this, however I find myself reaching for it most during winter as it has a quality of warmth and comfort to it. Despite this I also think it makes a great work fragrance as I find the woodiness to be evocative of power and seriousness. I personally become most easily noseblind to this and I do find it to have the weakest sillage out of everything I've owned from Atelier Cologne.

The opening of Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds features a fresh, green neroli, which then gives way to a light peppery wood and musk base adorned by vetiver, incense and a very discreet green citrus undertone. The name 'Bois Blonds' is very apt, as this woody base feels indeed pale blond, and neutral, as some reviewers already noted. The sillage is soft and the longevity is around 7 hours. I'd recommend it as an enjoyable and versatile fragrance combining transparent woods and fresh citrus.

As with most AC fragrances, I can't justify their full retail price, but I will purchase when they are deeply discounted on sale. It's a very nice crisp neroli forward scent with a lovely smooth woody base. Definitely unisex and easy to pull off. Projection and sillage is not the best, but expected from AC. I coincidentally wore Le Labo Bergamot the day before I tested this out, and I don't find them very similar, LL is far more citrus while AC has more prominent woods.

Atelier makes some of the safest scents I have smelled. Very likable with simple notes. BB is in the same category. Nothing spectacular or groundbreaking but good ole fashion perfumery for both men and women. Sill age is moderate as well as longevity. After the citrus opening it dries down to a vetiver/woody base with hints of incense. As I said, nothing extreme but very pleasurable to the wearer and those in your proximity. Well priced might I add.

Very delicate. A nice 'niche' fragrance very fresh 'n vibrant and longevity is good also for its freshness. Stays long on skin but not on all parts. Its not my favourite from Atelier and by its price i would not buy it anymore. I mainly smelled neroli and orange blossom/flower with a hint of vetiver but not much. the insense makes it project more but it still is a fresh n fruity scent to me. Green and Citrus not that much balmy imo. 7.5/10

This isn't groundbreaking, but it's a very solid and pleasant fragrance. I'm not a fan of the opening, which is quite bitter citrus, but it's balanced nicely with woods by an hour, and it ends a gorgeous pale woody scent (evokes cedar and white sandalwood, to me) with a touch of brightness until the end. Another reviewed compared this to Trefle Pur, but I find Trefle Pur to be more aromatic and slightly bitter, and not nearly as woody.

The woody notes and incense are what is predominant to my nose and therefore make it one of the coziest, most comforting perfumes I have ever smelled. I love how the wood predominates, so I can wear it on cold winter days and it instantly transports me by the fireplace. If you are here for the floral notes, dont get your hopes too high. I still recommend trying it. Very comforting. It makes my heart ache in the best way possible. :)

The wan neroli claimed a cold and left before you even had a chance to get to know him. Whoever it is you are speaking to at this boring party just stares blankly and nods in agreement to everything, exchanging only the most innocuous of small talk. Bois Blonds is unfortunately the white musk cellophane wrapper of a long ago-eaten orange popsicle. Pleasant. Fine. But not one you need to seek out.

I found this for a steal ($20) on clearance at a Perfumania, so I blind-bought it. Thankfully the slight risk paid off, although I definitely would be a bit upset if I paid more for it. It reminds me of a creamier, more woody/less citrusy version of Artisan Pure. Not that unique, but I'm looking forward to wearing this one more during the final days of summer to see how it compares. 7/10

Pretty and fresh cologne, but it's nothing new nor wowing. Lots of neroli, vetiver, and woodsy notes. I dont get any incense out of it, though. Somehow it reminds me of the islands in the Amalfi coast in Italy. I think it can be worn by anyone during hot summer days. Very poor longevity and sillage on my skin. Didn't even last an hour. 7/10

I can imagine a guy I know pulling this off very well, think I'll have to gift it to him the next time I see him! Overall, it's quite fresh and light.. there is a bit of sharpness to it, the pepper is prominent.. but not loud in any way. The dry down is sweet, but still woody/fresh.

Very nice, more masculine I think. Powerful at first, the long lasting dry down period becomes very woody, musky, and peppery. Nice scent. Smells wonderful on my husband, layers well for my taste with the Rose Anonyme, must try, very sexy together for a more womanly feel.

A woody, fresh, incensy fragrance. Nice and reminds me of a more flowery CDG2Man. But what annoys me is it's staying power and sillage, finally after spraying almost 1,5ml i get some performance! So, it's a nice fragrance but substract points for performance. 80

To me it smells somewhat similar to eccentric molecules 01 and Polo Earth. I dont know my. Clean fresh everyday scent. Good be fine as a signature scent. Nothing spectacular, but not everything has to be.

Unfortunately I find this very forgettable. I tried my sample on 3 different days, but when I wanted to write this review, I had to spray it on a fourth time because my nose just didn't remember it. I feel like this is the boring brother of Grand Neroli - both are cologney neroli scents, but Bois Blonds is more masculine, less sweet and floral and instead a little woody. Like its sister it needs heat to unfold and show off hints of vetiver and incense. The rest of the fragrance is neroli, light cedary woods and a mixture of green and yellow citrus fruits. Nothing really stands out. I wouldn't mind smelling this on someone else, but that's it. Performance is also not great, similar to some other summery Ateliers.

Right after spraying I get a juicy and fresh impression of neroli, pink pepper and some vetiver that I really like. However, after a few short minutes this freshness disappears and all I am left with is a woodsy and extremely light fragrance. The woody base accord is not a favorite of mine because it smells synthetic in a way that is too obvious, letting me think that they did not even try to mimic the smell of real wood.

First blast of vaguely spicy citrus that dries to a vaguely smoked woods orange after a minute. Pleasant enough but projection and performance are fleeting on my skin. The only note that holds on is the vetiver and one can find a better one elsewhere. Unisex and I'd say best for all weather. 6+ hours later: a faint whiff of vetiver remains

Fresh, clean neroli scent with a woody base. I think it comes across as being very simple because it's well-blended. I wouldn't have guessed there was any incense or pink pepper without looking at the notes. Sophisticated and pretty in a completely unisex way, it's likely to be an easy reach in spring and summer.

I've worn Atelier Cologne BOIS BLONDS several times, and it's time to face the fact: I dislike this frag. It does not smell like woods to me. It smells like a cross between aromachemicals and some sort of institutional air freshener. The kind that expels mist at periodic intervals to mask the odors of the general public flowing through the place, some of whom overslept and ran out of the house before they could bathe. This is a good example of a case where I had enough of the fragrance to feel that I really have done it justice. I've reached a plateau, and I'm afraid that it lies rather low. I've worn about half my purse spray, and each time I've had the urge to cover this scent with something else, as I intend to do right now. I even wrote notes about my prior wears before penning this review. Comparing notes, I found more or less the same reaction each time. I offer a rousing chorus of "try before you buy!" for BOIS BLONDS.

Bois Blonds smells as though Calvin Klein Truth and Dolce Gabbana Light Blue had a baby. It smells like Truth for only the first 15 minutes. I used to love Truth with its grassy purity and I used to love Light Blue ... 17 years ago. Something changed though and the smell of Ambrox/ Ambroxan/ Cetalox makes me cringe now. These types of notes are not timeless. Something about the crispness of that particular kind of note doesn't wear well on my skin anymore. It has this harshness that overwhelms and just can't be shaken. I'm so over these jarring notes. Bois Blonds reeks of this fully synthetic acridness on my skin. How can something with such lightness be so harsh?

I'm not a big fan of this one. It has a tart, crisp flowery vibe to it, but it's very inoffensive, subdued, meek and almost like a background scent of air freshener or some other kind of household stink masking spray. I didn't get any woody scent at all. Try before you buy, like I did. Atelier does much nicer scents than this one.

I found this strong, herbal and masculine. I don't see this on women and wouldn't like it on men either.

Bois Blonds is a light and wearable woodsy cologne, perfect for the warmer weather. If you get bored easily with citrusy or clean scents, then Bois Blonds may be the fragrance for you. Summer is often an awkward month for me. I don't like the heat nor the lack of choice when it comes to wearing perfume. Fruits and citrus in general smell putrid with my chemistry, and clean, soapy fragrances lack something. Bois Blonds was the answer for me. An inoffensive, slightly masculine and simple fragrance. Bois Blonds opens with a refreshing blend of zesty neroli and pink pepper. The blond woods note is not far away, however I find the dry, salty vetiver accord to be just as dominant. The drydown tends to be rather musky on my skin, but more clean than animalic. It is a masculine scent, despite being marketed as unisex. Bois Blonds is very straight-forward and plain, much to the perfumer's credit. At certain times, this fragrance reminds me of soggy cardboard. There is something oddly appealing about its scent. While testing Bois Blonds you must not forget that it is an eau de cologne, so naturally the sillage will be soft and the scent rather fleeting after a few hours wear. Think of it as a refreshing splash or mist. The large 200ml bottle allows for constant re-application.

It was love at first sniff. And the love got deeper and more intimate in every passing minute. The dry down is beautiful. I agree with Colin Maillard on how undetectable it smells yet when you get close to it, it's a strong scent. It's a very clean and elegant scent. I can't wait to wear it alone on a rainy day. I usually layer Bois Blonds with my other floral scents (for instance my dior blooming bouquet smelled too sharp for me this morning so I layered them together) to create a fresh, clean and floral plus non-headache inducing scent. I love how layerable Bois Blonds is. It has a very interesting yet simple notes. The floral notes from my other perfumes diffuses the peppery note which smells like B.O on my skin. Don't except Bois Blonds to smell expensive, strong but you except it to make you feel fresh, clean and lingering on your skin. It's a very intimate perfume. For me, when I wear it alone, it's very undetectable with no sillage or stay power. But then again, this is more suitable for a humid and hot weather and right now where I'm living is very cold and dry. So I can't wait to try it on sticky hot days and see if the sillage improves with humidity.

I bought the sample pack direct from Atalier DC as I got a 50% discount of its original price. They sent me a nice little package with a handwritten card, really nice btw. The package contained 2 ml of every scent made by them. As I try them along the way, I will post reviews of them. So what do I get out of this fragrance? A nice fresh neroli fragrance. Vetiver and orange blossom is present but the main fuel in this one is neroli. I also get some kind of citrusy note, bergamot actually, and fair enough, their own site states bergamot. So my nose doesn't cheat me after all... the scent doesn't develop much throughout the dry-down. It stays fresh and flowery/citrusy. Great for the summer/spring. I would wear this in the summer. It is a unisex fragrance indeed. Longevity is no something to write home about, 5-6 hours. Silage is good, an arms length at least. Not much to say about this fragrance. It's not something overwhelmingly new, but as a fragrance it really works well, both for men and women. Overall rating: 7/10

Bois Blonds is clean, comfortable and casual. I can't decide if I should call it deceptively complex or instead multi-faceted. It really depends on the setting you place it in. For me it shares a close kinship with two other fragrances, Citrus Noir by Molinard and Juniper Sling by Penhaligon's. They're by no means identical, but call it a vibe or a mood if you will. Bois Blonds has a slight sweetness (musk and orange blossom) that the other two lack, but all three conjure something that I can only describe as salty sea air. I don't mean a marine character by that. There's no overt mineral or aquatic quality to it. It's not watery, but rather dry. There is a salty, dry coolness to it instead enchanced by the pepper. I was actually surprised by how long this lasted on me. A few hours on skin, and several more on clothes.

Looking at the reviews here, it seems like the most common word used to describe this cologne is "pleasant". I'd have to agree. It is a nice fragrance. It's just not amazing and that's what I'm looking for. I put some on my skin and collar and the scent is quite faint - especially on my skin. If I wear perfume, I like to at least smell it on myself occasionally. I don't really care if it projects that much and other people smell it. I'm really wearing it for myself. I don't think I'd even be able to smell this on myself and if I can't smell it, why bother? There's a really nice note in there that I had trouble identifying but then I realized what it was. It smelled like a Trapp Lemongrass Verbena candle. I just ordered a few of those and it cost a lot less than the perfume!

Mowing my way through the Atelier Sampler, this opens hard and bright with a clean neroli, bristly vetiver and well-blended pink pepper note. This is light and sophisticated. This is sort of what I was expecting from Vetiver Fatale, which to me comes too close to Bal D'Afrique for comfort. Bois Blond takes things in a different direction and there is real occasion to wear this. I notice a lot of reviews take the sillage and longevity to task. My wife has super-smell ever since her pregnancy and I've found it difficult to wear anything with volume higher than a 6 without being disruptive, and I have new appreciation for scents that allow me to have better control over their reach. With 9 down and 6 to go in the sampler, Bois Blond is behind only Orange Sanguine thus far.

You can't be impatient with Bois Blonds. If you are, you'll think it nothing more than a roll in the woods between exacting orange flower and less discriminating vetiver. Yeah, the opening won't grab your attention. But give it 40 minutes and wow. The most delicate flower emerges, a refined, full bodied chord. It took me by surprise; on first sniff this was so dry and unpromising. As it unfolds that sweet note waxes and wanes, always playing an equal partner to the everything else going on. Development is restrained, and unless you apply generously you might miss out. Bois Blonds is all out class and subtle precision. I can't think of a situation where it would be inappropriate. This has quickly become one of my favorite houses, and at $70 for 30 oz, why not.

I've got a sample, so before I forget, I have to describe it for myself personally, and may be someone will take it as opinion. First spray- nothing except some light woody-citrusy experience. 10 minutes later, it start to develop a warm wibe , something acidy sweet but not sweet at all. Not so bad, but on the other hand to me: I am not in desperate "awe" of that. One thing I started to appreciate of late: it is not annoying with it's layer after layer and time after time. If somene gave me a small gift, I would probably use it, but not for date or the party, just to go out... P.S.After one hour some chemical rose coming up...May be I have to have it after all..???
