Citron d'Erable

If (when, probably, if I'm being honest) I decide I need a lemon dominant scent, this is the front runner. "Bright" citrus has a tendency to skew either sharp or sour to me; but this is a deliciously deep, dark lemon. Remember the Lemonade Cleanse fad diet? You fast for two weeks and all your nutrition comes from this specific lemonade drink (fresh squeezed lemons, grade B maple syrup, and cayenne pepper). It's a little like the most wonderful version of that lemonade you can possibly imagine, distilled (no, not boozy), concentrated. Opens with a burst of fresh lemon and some sweetness, candied. Then it develops a nice, soft spiciness. And then it dries down, and there's a fuzzy-ness to it. Not cozy or blanketing but still soft and blurred. It looses the spicy prickle in this and the heady, rich sweetness of the maple takes over. The lemon is absolutely dominant but tempered beautifully with the woods. Both fresh and dark at the same time. Still being completely honest; this actually teeters on the edge of like/love for me. Sometimes the lemon does feel a little too much, too thick, too sweet. But then I sniff it again and want to switch it to love. Projects softly for about 6 hours.

CITRON & MATCHBOOK-MAPLE. Opens with a spicy citrus burst that develops into a woody, flinty matchbook enveloped by soft maple woods. Average performance for a light spring through fall wearing experience. Has reminders of Autumn Vibes Maison Martin Margiela. Overall I get a fleeting veil of spicy citrus that opens for what is primarily a dry woody scent with flinty matchbook & maple nuances. I'm a fan of maple, so it's a love for me. This would be the perfect scent to wear camping, or for a fall vibe. Enjoy! P.S. Another great maple scent is Pleasures Intense Estee Lauder. This one is all about lily/lilac with maple in the background.

Readers, do not be fooled by the maple sap note listed. It does not smell anything like a stack of pancakes. The sap is more resinous and the sweetness is more like a honey note. The top note is a big, bold, bright lemon that lasts a good 30 minutes before changing into something more tart and fruity reminding me of a raspberry scent. Maybe it is suppose to be the black currant, but black currant has been more sharp and bitter than this, in my experience. Anyway, the drydown is very nice as well. If anyone remembers Miracle pour homme by Lancome, this has that same type of woodsy drydown. Nice.

Either is Citron d'Erable a fragrance that perfectly conveys its creators' ideas, or the vivid description on the postcard that comes with the sample affected my nose. It's an autumn lemon in a cup of tea sweetened with honey (or rather maple syrup). After an hour we are left with a very pleasant woody base, which becomes drier and drier. A very positive composition which rises your spirits and brings to mind the most pleasant aspects of autumn.

It opens up with this lovely lemon fresh type of scent, just amazing, but doesn't last long. It then turns into a smokey sweet/fruity scent, I'm assuming cedar/black currant. The maple doesn't seem to ever show up. In the dry down, it smells like a sweet version of cool water, which is honestly pretty nice when sprayed on clothing, but not on my skin.

Gorgeous spicy citrus with lovely warming kick and beautiful woody and sweet base. This brand is a dark horse in the world of perfumery for me. Because honestly they have a very good fragrances for an affordable price. Really need this one in my collection! Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Very interesting. Sugary lemon with a woodsy forest background. It reminds me of being in a cabin in the summer. During the first few minutes, the smell is reminiscent of bug spray, which isn't great. Nevertheless, I still like this perfume.

I had ridiculously high expectations of Citron d'Erable: I have a weakness for citrus scents in general, Atelier Cologne makes some of the best ones in the genre, and the note list of this one looks particularly irresistible. What I imagined was an impossibly delicious combination of lemon, maple syrup and woods - so it's no big surprise, on reflection, that I was a little disappointed by the real thing. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it by any means, it's just that it's not as great as I'd hoped. The lemon note is very well done, as expected from this line, and the woody drydown is a nice change of pace from its usual aromatic, rather maculine base. I also like the subtle sweetness in the top notes, which must be the maple sap coming out and which complements the lemon very nicely - only it's quite generic, as are the woods: nothing specifically "maple" about any of it. On top of that, projection and longevity are also disappointing, even compared to others from this house that's not exactly known for its performance. So all in all, this is just a lukewarm like for me, which is a little sad thinking back to that glorious fragrance I had imagined...

Tried a quick spray both on paper and my wrist ... the lemon note went away fairly quick on both, although a warmth and freshness remained more prevalent on the skin. Eventually, the cedar and other woody notes overtake everything and a mild sweet syrup/sap note lingers in the background. Also a soft aromatic note too, though not sure what from (maybe maple leaf rather than maple wood)? Sillage is nominal and longevity is decent at 6-8 hours, this seems quite masculine to me. Definitely for those who like "outdoorsy" fresh woody, aromatic scents and probably best for cooler summer evenings or fall daytime. Nothing really exciting, but a quality scent and worth trying if a sample comes your way. Overall: 7/10

I really dig the profile of this one, and I was excited to get a 100ml bottle. Sadly, it's a terrible value. After about an hour, it's basically gone. Citron d'Érable is, however, a great layering fragrance. The subtle woody notes can improve some sweet, cloying fragrances. Those notes become more prominent and lasting as a layer than they do on their own. Funny that. Anyway, I will miss it when my bottle runs out, but I won't cry over it being discontinued.

First impression is like drinking lemonade while hiking on a dry September day while the sun is beating down on fallen twigs and leaves. The citrus fades quickly and a smokey, somewhat fruity sweetness lingers. Feels like a nice middle ground between masculine and feminine. I'm enjoying my sample, but doubt I'd commit to a full size bottle.

I get citrus and cedar, with some nondescript sweetness and it stays true for about 6 hours on my skin. Nice and cheery, but not as special as I had hoped. I wanted more maple syrup, less wood, from a perfume called citron d'erable. I will happily use my travel spray but won't buy a full bottle.

Purchased a 7,5 ml pencil bottle. What a strange brew this is. The lemon lasts not even a minute and after that I smell brown leaves. Maple leaves I suppose. I smell no mandarin orange, black currant, eucalyptus, maple, sequoia or cedar. The sichuan pepper is noticeable, I know that smell from certain Chinese dishes. I really don't know what to think about this one. I get an autumn kinda feel from this perfume. And that is I think the only positive thing I can say about Citron d'Erable so far. Gonna wear this coming fall and I am curious how this strange almost off putting perfume behaves. Edit 20-11-22. This is a big disappointment. Even a dislike. Why did Atelier Cologne make this nasty frag that delivers a rotten leaf smell in the dry down?

Soft sweet woody citrus. Not too sweet but has a caramel warm sweetness. Not a love but maybe a like. Not compelled to buy a full bottle. Just an ok scent I would wear if around...maybe. Scent: 6.5 / Sillage: 6.5 / Longevity: 6.5 EDIT: After further wearing, it's just ok and bordering on dislike. The caramel sweetness slowly creeps up to prominence and does not gel well with the citrus or woods. Disappointing. Scent: 5.5 / Sillage: 6.5 / Longevity: 6.5

This smells like a common, pretty functional fragrance. Citrus notes open and burn off rapidly, and then the currant shows up and stays. Many of the other notes simply do not appear. I was very much eagerly anticipating maple and honey, but this was just a citrusy, fruity, powder musk scent, not FB worthy and not distinct in its genre.

I have a small sample of this and it smells overwhelmingly like kombu. I can tell the notes are actually the maple sugar, Sichuan pepper and cedar listed, but blended together it gives this umami seaweed stock smell and I absolutely can't un-smell it so it's a rather disappointing no from me.

Intense citrus aromatic scent. At the beginning it resembles lemon scented detergent. Later it's more woody and very aromatic.

The maple sap note doesn’t work for me in this perfume setting.

I feel if you are upset that this scent doesn't smell citrusy enough then you must have completely ignored the heart and base notes. I love citrus like the next person but based on the notes I pictured this smelling like a lumberjack walking through the woods sipping lemon tea from a thermos after he had pancakes for breakfast, AND that is exactly what this smells like to me. I think this would be the perfect fall or winter scent for a very humble and masculine man. I normally hog the Atelier scents for myself but I am going to test this on my Hubby's skin and see how it performs on his chemistry. If this scent stayed the way it smells at it's opening I would say it smelled too much like other Atelier scents I have but this dry down takes a turn that doesn't work for me but I appreciate how lovely Citron D'erable is. If you like the opening of this I recommend Bergamote Soleil by Atelier Cologne.

Everything about this fragrance is awful. The citrus is ok, but then you get bombarded with weirdness of maple and off-putting wood/ smoky whatever. It just smells like a dirty old man trying to be young.
