Love Osmanthus

Some people's chemistry and aesthetics gel with certain houses. It's safe to say I gel with Atelier Cologne, as I've liked and even loved several of their offerings: Oud Saphir (would repurchase), Orange Sanguine (would repurchase), Santal Carmin (would repurchase), Cafe Tuberosa, Clementine California, Vanille Insensee... One thing the house knows how to do very well is CITRUS, so when I read the description of "Love Osmanthus" I was very optimistic, and ultimately selected a sample with my Sephora order. This right here is the elusive fresh lemon scent. So if you're someone who loves the smell of actual lemons, but shudders at lemon fragrances from the memories of furniture polish, *this is for you*. Sillage / projection is practically nonexistent, this is a perfume solely for the wearer, but the first almost two hours are just a freshly cut and squeezed lemon, just gorgeous. Now, I have next to no experience with the osmanthus flower (or apricots really), but around the two-hour mark is when another note peeks above the lemon. It's almost like a peach, fleshy, but not syrupy. It's soft and utterly pleasant. The fragrance itself barely lasts past the three-hour mark, during which the faintest note of wood shavings surfaces with the osmanthus. This is the type of fragrance for which the travel size is perfect, so you can spritz on the go. Or, if you decide you really cannot live without this lemon, then you get the big bottle and invest in an atomizer (I recommend Juliette Has A Gun for that). Edit: On a second wearing, I noticed another stage between fresh lemon and lemon-tinged apricot: JELLY BEANS! After the first hour I smelled jelly beans when I sniffed my skin where I sprayed. If this is something I can expect from osmanthus, I'm going to start looking for this flower *everywhere*!

Atelier Cologne is one of my very favorite perfume houses, and I was extra excited about Love Osmanthus because, you've guessed it, I do love osmanthus. It's such a happy note, a sort of floral cross between a bag of candy and a powder puff, both concepts that I'm more than partial to in perfume. And as others have mentioned, Atelier Cologne is especially good at citruses, so I was counting on their ability to make the combination of that lovely sweet-powdery osmanthus note with bright sparkling lemon smell as enticing as it sounds. Having finally gotten my hands on a decant, I can happily confirm that it does! Or at least, straight from the bottle and in the opening, it smells exactly like I had hoped it would; I'm in candy-floral-powder-lemon heaven, feeling as sunny on this dark cloudy November lockdown day as I ever did at the height of summer. It's sweet and bright, but soft as well - very well balanced. The lemon note does smell a lot like the one in Light Blue, but I don't have a problem with that - I've always liked that part of Light Blue a lot, and unlike some other reviewers I think the addition of that wonderful osmanthus notes is enough to make this one stand out. Unfortunately, as is often the case with this house and hard to avoid with colognes in general, the drydown is less spectacular and less up my alley in general. That typical AC cedar base gets more and more present, and I've never really gotten along with it - too synthetic and too dominant for my taste. Still, I can always re-apply at this point (which only really starts to dominate several hours in anyway). With my huge (decant) collection I'm not sure if I'll ever get through my 10 ml, but I wouldn't be surprised if I do, and then a little bottle is definitely on the cards. Such a mood-lifter!

This is one of those scents that I didn’t care for when I first tried my sample. I tried it again though, some months later and kept thinking “what is that lovely scent?” It was THIS. I do also own Light Blue (original) and I get some of the same feel in this scent - I do understand the comparison - however, this is peach versus apple and - LASTS longer on my skin. I get comments on this scent at bedtime even if I can no longer smell it at all. For some reason it also feels more “natural” or, made of quality ingredients. I still love light blue - love that apple note - but when I am looking for longevity, I chose this one. Addressing the price comparison - if you get the large 6+ oz size - the price per ounce is not so high at all. Next time, I plan on purchasing this in the largest size available. I wear this with the pomelo paradise lotion - great combination. I do not pick up lemon in this scent as much as I get peach. The first time I tried it, I got none of that juicy sweet, happy sunshine...but now this is pure love. Refreshing, happy, summertime gorgeous scent that I really hope they keep a part of their line.

Lovely but fleeting, like most Atelier Colognes. But it’s a house I just love because they do everything so well, and Love Osmanthus is no exception. I get the blast of lemon at first, but it’s a sweeter lemon, not the bitter peel. At the heart I smell the fruity apricot/peach that must be the osmanthus. The cedar base is hard to catch because the scent is basically gone before you get to the base notes, but I did catch them at first, blended with the sweet lemon top note. I am going to experiment with layering this one with an orange scented body lotion and/or Molecule 01+Mandarin to see if I can get more wear time. But for now, it’s worth just carrying it around so I can reapply it. The perfect warm weather scent!

This scent is delicious! First spray, I got juicy and succulent fruits, Fragrantica says lemon, but it didn't read lemon to me. More like orange and apricot, which makes sense because osmanthus has an apricot-like scent to it. Love Osmanthus is delicious and addictive. I wish I had a 100 ml bottle and could indulge myself in this fragrance this summer. I will try not to ration my travel size, but it will be hard.

So lovely but nothing really special. I get the Light Blue comparisons but I think it is a spot-on dupe of Moschino's I Love Love (which I love :-) Not speaking of this comparison specifically: I am astonished how two fragrances can smell almost identical but have totally different ingredient notes! I wish someone could explain this to me!

The fragrance opens with the most photorealistic citrus scent, like cutting open a lime and the oil spins out of the rind. You might think it would make a perfect summer perfume but for me its cool trait makes it more of an early autumn. Unfortunately it doesn’t last on me at all.

Immediate love for me, my favorite from this label by far. Cannot pinpoint what about it is so intoxicating. Bright and juicy, kinda sour? soft, fresh, breezy and clean. Zero heaviness, which I need while working during hot humid summers.

One of if not my favorite atelier scents. Unisex. Such a beautiful dreamy aura of citrus perfect for day or night, the lemon can be a bit strong sometimes but I love it. Wish it lasted longer though!

This is a beautiful lemon and osmanthus perfume. It wears longer for me than most summer/citrus perfumes. The osmanthus is apricot and leather. Beautiful.

This is an exact offspring of: Jo Malone Honey Nectarine and DG Light Blue! Lovely inoffensible day time fragrance. Fresh, a little dry, clean.

Absolutely stunning fragrance. It's juicy, yummie and very natural. I'm a man and after smelling it in a perfumery I just had to buy it.

My fav scent! I get a mildly floral, soapy vibe from it.

Like the other Atelier Cologne scents, this is a straightforward yet high-quality scent featuring citrus - this time, a lemon top note. Lemon-heavy scents can veer dangerously close to cleaning product territory, but here it is balanced beautifully by the soft, apricot nuances of the dominant osmanthus note. It simply adds a zesty, fresh edge, tying in with the citrusy DNA of the brand. This is streets ahead of the Light Blue, to which it is frequently compared - the lemon here is much less sharp and more natural, while the osmanthus is a delicious addition. LO opens with a light lemon note, zesty and natural yet somehow reminiscent of lemon-flavoured sweets - not too bitter. The osmanthus joins it very quickly in its lactonic, woody, apricot-y glory. It is a simple, yet beautiful accord that really works well. It becomes reasonably full-bodied as it develops, joined by soft cedar notes that ground it nicely. Sillage and longevity are moderate - it lasts a bit longer than some of the more citrus-heavy scents from this line. Really nicely done - a lovely example of an osmanthus scent. Give it a chance even if you dislike lemon. Feminine-leaning in my opinion thanks to the fruity floral osmanthus note. Simple and effective in typical Atelier Cologne manner - the high-quality notes are allowed to shine. 3.5/5.

First, yes, this is a sibling to Light Blue, and I really enjoyed Light Blue but it's EVERYWHERE. Yes, I wear scents for myself and I'm not interested in smelling like the crowd. Love Osmanthus is similar to LB in that it's a very clean and airy fruity floral with a cedar base. Both are completely inoffensive while still being a delight to wear. Second, the difference between them is that LO has a more authentic (higher quality) citrus profile and leans less sweet on me while being a bit more woody in the end game, which I prefer. As others have mentioned, LB is all about the green apple while LO showcases an apricot accord. The fact that LO is less common than LB is just another reason to find it more attractive! Review of full bottle purchased from Sephora during the Sale on Sale 2022. (I highly recommend picking this up during a sale! It's currently discounted on Sephora. I believe Atlier Cologne goes on clearance every year because the natural ingredients have a shorter shelf life than most mainstream fragrances.) This is lovely and fresh, ideal for a warm spring or summer day. As others have said, the lemon is by far the dominant note, with a sweet intensity reminiscent of meyer lemons. Unfortunately, the osmanthus note is a bit disappointing. I have yet to smell a fragrance that accurately captures the scent of real osmanthus blossoms, but in the perfume world, osmanthus is described as having a warm, slightly leathery apricot-esque quality. I get some delicate fruitiness from Love Osmanthus, but it lacks the ripe juiciness I would have preferred for a scent with "osmanthus" in its name. I can understand the many comparisons to Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana, but I'm not sure if I'm fully on board. To me, Light Blue has a stronger musky-floral aspect to it that makes it more feminine, whereas Love Osmanthus is more unisex. It definitely reminds me of the oil that sprays out of a fresh lemon peel. If you can reframe this as a lemon scent, rather than a lemony-osmanthus scent, it's beautiful, but the poor longevity still prevented me from getting a full-size bottle.

I really love Atelier offerings in general and this is nice enough but def not my favorite out of those I've tried. On opening, a huge blast of lemon. It smelled like I had cut a lemon in half and rubbed it on my skin, very authentic. That was all I smelled for the first 15 minutes probably. After that, the cedar comes in and the osmanthus peaks in a little too. Now after about 4 hours of wear the osmanthus is definitely more front and center and the lemon and cedar are lingering in the background. The osmanthus is def more apricot in this composition. A little bit like the osmanthus note in Marciso Rodriguez for her but I most definitely prefer the latter. It is definitely a quiet unassuming scent, probably good for summer or early fall. I really loved that lemon in the opening. Atelier is great for those super authentic circuses in the opening. I wish that lemon could have lasted a little longer. At 4 hours it is still hanging in there but again more on the quiet side.

I really like citrus-floral combos like this where you have an initial blast of some strong citrus note (a natural burst of lemon here) and then the white florals and woods come out and it becomes a really light and pretty perfume. When I lived in Kuala Lumpur, so many of my older cousins' friends smelled like this which is such a nice scent memory. If you haven't smelled it, osmanthus is a flower that smells like apricots and this perfume has a really fruity stone fruit scent in its midnotes. It's actually kind of like taking Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue replacing the apple with apricot, making the lemon note less screechy, and adding a clean powdery dry down to it. The longevity is short at only 4 hours for me, but it's easy to reapply. I would consider this a more feminine scent, but that could just be my cultural connotations around it.

Seriously just came here to say this smells exactly like Light Blue to me. Because I don't own LB and haven't smelled it consciously since... 2015... I can't say where it specifically diverges. Others below have cited variations in the citrus opening, but to my nose (that is not in close touch with LB) this opening smacked me with some memories. About 10 mins in I think it is diverging with a little more clean musk lemon detergent and white flower and a little powder. I would probably wear this shopping on a sunny day or to grab coffee run errands or maybe after the gym, but I already have enough fragrances that I can sub in for those purposes. I don't think I will buy this. It is pleasant and likable, but too much of a ringer for LB-- if I want to invoke that I will simply buy LB.

This starts out being mostly a slightly sweet lemon, similar to light blue but the lemon in love osmanthus is less screechy to me. After you’ve had it on your skin for about 30 minutes you really start to get more of the osmanthus in the sillage. I wore one spray on my wrist yesterday and I was getting whiffs of it out of no where up to the 7 hour mark, so it performs a lot better than I was expecting based off of other reviews. I will say that when you put your nose right up to your skin and smell it it does smell like light blue, but like I said, when you’re smelling it in the air around you, you get a lot of that osmanthus which makes it distinctly different from LB when you actually wear it instead of just smelling it off a test strip.

I used to have a bottle of Cheap & Chic I Love by Moschino years ago and at first sniff of Love Osmanthus I was immediately reminded of Moschino. Personally, I think Atelier Cologne managed to do a great job at creating a lemon perfume that doesn't smell like home cleaner. (I know others disagree) For me, the cedar base paired with a light apricot sweetness from the osmanthus makes this perfume smelling more like a fresh perfume rather than a cleaning supply. The dry down accentuates these features, while the bright lemon dominates the opening of the perfume. Overall, you have to be a lemon citrus lover to enjoy this one for sure.

Don't like this one quite as much as I'd hoped I would-- the lemon is very strong, almost leaning into cleaning-product territory. I consider myself a big citrus fan, but this might be a bit much for me. It's a zesty, zingy, pick-me-up scent. I get a hint of something powdery and floral after an hour or so, but still mostly lemon and cedar. As a huge D&G Light Blue fan, I kind of get the comparisons, but LB is just so much nicer and well-rounded to me, less screechy. I actually get a headache from this one unfortunately, so I won't be keeping it.

Apricots ripened under the warm, indulgent sunset, kissed by glistening citrus, their skin golden and sweet—the kind you bite into and discover how the sun still clings to its flesh. There’s something full beneath it all, a quiet body of woodiness that keeps the brightness from just blowing away. It smells like laughter in the late afternoon, when time feels slower and everything is tinged with sunbeam. It’s familiar, like an old habit, but never boring. It lingers just enough to make you turn back and pause.

Completely agree with shiva-woman. All I get is a burst of lemon, bright and cheerful though it may be, even 15 min into the drydown, osmanthus is barely present at all. Lemon with a woody base, that’s basically it. They should just re-name it Love Lemon. Not the most impressive of Atelier’s scents, and I’m speaking as a huge fan. Alas, I’ll keep trying... EDIT: 1 hour into the drydown the floral osmanthus note is developing nicely, however the sillage is just moderate.

This new installation in AC's citrus collection is more lemon than osmanthus. Zesty, tangy lemon with the sweetness of osmanthus - which in this fragrance lacks its distinct apricot-like floralcy, or suede-like texture. Love Osmanthus is somewhere in between Pomelo Paradis' citrusy brightness and Pacific Lime's smooth sweetness. It's a nice release, but if you have either of the two, you probably won't need a bottle of Love Osmanthus.

Sniffing in the sample vial this smelled exactly like lemon candy to me, super sweet and sugary. But it's much more complex on the skin--it was a nice bright Italian lemon. There's creaminess from the osmanthus and fresh woodiness from the cedar. The only downside was that it barely lasted on me, even compared to other scents from Atelier which have had more staying power on my skin (this was gone by 2pm).

Lovely bright citrus floral for summer's heat. Mainly lemon with a close second dose of osmanthus that takes it into a linden blossom territory with just the right amount of sweet. The cedar is not detectable but is a balancing force that lends the smooth woodiness to the crisp citrus to ground it. As it dries down, it becomes more masculine sort of like a men's cologne, and I swear I detect vetiver.

It smells nice. I mostly get lemon with a light floral. The drydown is clean and pleasant in my opinion, but the fragrance gets there too fast. Not much projection or longevity here. I like it enough to use up the small size I have, but it's not unique enough to justify the price tag of a large size.

Weak, pitiful Osthmanthus but an overall cheerful, happy citrus scent, as Atelier typically does. Not daring like some of their earlier choices or even Cafe Tuberosa. I'm an Osthmanthus lover and thought they'd get this right, but it needs less lemon, more Osthmanthus.

First blast of sweet lemon which turns into a sharper woody floral zing that's rather invigorating. Airy, zingy, sweet, unoriginal but pleasant. Unisex and best for hot days. 6+ hours later: all that remains is a moderately strong wood scent

Very summery, pleasant, fresh, citrusy and 🍋. It reminds me a lot Light Blue to be honest. Hopefully it will develop into a more floral one. I dont like citrusy perfume but this truly gives me the relaxing yet close to nature kinda vibe

First spray Totally taking me back to my childhood...Love Fresh Lemon Scent Spray. A little more understated lemon...maybe because its European vs. Cali. but happy nonetheless to be 10 years old again. For a little while anyway . :)

It's very cheerful and bright, but the milky sweetness of osmanthus is a bit conflicting with the lemony tartness, so it's not my favorite of Atelier Cologne. Underneath there's a warm wooden layer and some synthetic amber

Love Osmanthus is beautiful! It's a fresh citrus scent. To my nose it's virtually identical to Moschino I Love Love and D&C Light Blue Intense...none of which have very good longevity or projection sadly.

A strong citrus scent that is perhaps a bit too strong on its own. I prefer to layer one spritz of this over a more nuanced floral or citrusy scent - it blends really well and has strong longevity.

Sweet lemon and osthmantus, with very little of the heavy cedar common to their other citrus themed scents. Joyful and fresh.

As a massive fan of Atelier Cologne I own almost everything from the house, many in the large 200ml bottles as I adore them so much. I blind bought Love Osmanthus in a cautious 30ml size as many of the reviews seemed a little lacklustre. It is regrettable but I would agree with those mostly tepid reviews. The scent is pleasant but nothing outstanding for this price point. I have never sampled Light Blue so can’t comment on those comparisons but it does feel like a designer scent rather than a niche one. If I were younger and/or more attracted to stereotypical feminine fragrances, I think I’d enjoy it more. It is a carefree joyful sweet citrusy slightly ‘waxy petaled floral’ scent with a somewhat gentle chemical woodsy musky undertone. If you witnessed the recent live streamed ‘music festival’ from Atelier Cologne then you would realise that Love Osmanthus perfectly encapsulates the same image of that cutesy Prozac style of music. Along with California Clementine and Pacific Lime, the three are my least loved and share a very similar vibe and I believe these three are the youngest offerings from the house (apart from Lemon Island which has literally just been born and I haven’t yet sampled) which leads me to think that this is the direction the house is steadfastly headed and if so, I think my interest in Atelier Cologne will wane. I will always have my past favourites but I’m getting too old for these rainbow scented crowd pleasers. I do believe though that a certain market of customers will adore all the most recent releases from the brand and let’s not forget that Atelier Cologne was acquired by l’Oreal in 2016 as a mutual business decision. Money makes the world go round but I prefer my perfumes to make the world stop, if only for a few magical moments. This scent reminds me of the immaculate Stepford Wives smile a friend of mine acquired a month after being prescribed a serotonin uptake inhibitor. The most worrying thing is as I type this review I am starting to enjoy the scent more and more. Whether I think it was worth the purchase is another matter entirely: “What’s the going price for a stay-in-the-kitchen wife with big boobs and no demands?” (Ira Levin, The Stepford Wives)

This perfume is an inferior version of D&G light blue. It smells basic and uneventful.

I spent years in Japan amongst the tiny bright orange flowers of osmanthus trees that bloomed every October. I could smell the sweet, ripe apricot bouquet for blocks and blocks. It would make me whip my head around and start looking for the source. And when I found it, just down the road across from the school, I couldn't help but walk the distance and stand in its shade and breathe it all in for as long as I could. It only ever lasted until the next rainstorm rolled through, but you could bet I'd be there next autumn waiting to smell it all over again. This scent left an impression on me. Now that I'm back in my home country I've been on the hunt for an osmanthus fragrance that captures that wonderful aroma even in the slightest. This does not. Love Osmanthus is an uncomplicated very lemon-forward fragrance with a whisper of cedar that is effervescent, bright and wonderful in its own right. The opening is a shiny lemon burst. The dry down is calm and sweet. Atelier Cologne does citrus well and Love Osmanthus is no different. But if you are under the impression that it will deliver on its namesake as I was, you're going to come away disappointed. It's unfortunate to say that not once did I pick up any notes at all that resembled that wonderful aroma I've been searching for. Herod from Parfums de Marly delivers at least an honest, fleeting wisp of osmanthus in its dry down. For men searching for osmanthus, I would recommend that over this. (Of note: The orange flowers used in their marketing for this product are not osmanthus flowers. In hindsight this was accurately foreshadowing the end result.)

Opening is a really strong nice lemon/orange scent for about 10 mins. After which the citrus completely disappears on my skin. After the first 10 mins and then for the rest of the dry down it smells like Molecule 01 or anything with loads of Iso E Super - very meh/blah, boring, and with that sort of harsh synthetic aroma chemical aspect. Just not something I'd be interested in wearing/buying. I already own a little bottle of Molecule 01 and never use it except for layering. For the record, I have never been a fan of Light Blue either (which also has loads of Iso E Super or some other synthetic woody note in the base) different strokes for different folks...

This to me is 100% cheap lemon air freshener and lemon cleaning products. I am glad I only have a small tester bottle as I would be quite upset to spend for this. Of course if this is the sort of thing you like then go for it, you will be reapplying all day as this lasted all but a few minutes. Not for me at all.

Light not heady osmanthus, clear smelling like dry autumn air. A stroll through a park filled with sun rays, fallen leaves, and crisp air. Dry down is a bit of a let down for me. It smells of a stuffy old closet with stale laundry detergent and cedar coat hangers.

no osmanthus smell unfortunately based on the name, it's very lemony, smells like D&G light blue to me.

This is a big dose of orange citrus zest, and it smells lovely. Unfortunately after about 15 minutes it turns into a screechy alcohol scent + lemons on my skin. I had to scrub it off. I have the same problem with D&G Light Blue. :( I do see why people are comparing this to LB, they are very similar... and Light Blue is far less expensive.

Was wearing a sample of this to meet friends. The comments that I heard were "Oh you're wearing Light Blue! Love D&G~". Not gonna purchase the bottle at all now.

Love Osmanthus opens very bright and energizing - bursting forth with ripe apricots surrounded by secondary citruses. As it begins to calm down, the citruses step forward, particularly grapefruit and lemon. After 10 minutes, it's at once a bowl of freshly halved lemons in the middle of the kitchen island and the sparkling stainless steel sink opposite it (there's nothing metallic about it - just evokes the clean, sparkling quality of the citrus - very natural and nothing chemical). After 15 minutes the sweetness come back out, fresh apricots dusted with sugar. The citrus remains but no longer dominates. There's something else too that I can't place - it's light - maybe it's the osmanthus (with which I have no experience to confirm). After 25 min something vaguely floral enters to equation. It's very nice quality, and I don't mind florals, but I can no longer see myself reaching for this. For the rest of its life, I get sugared apricots. No longer quite so fresh, and certainly not projecting: light, calming, and personal. It reminds me heavily of an apricot facemask my wife uses. All natural ingredients. High quality. Just not for me. Longevity: LOW (skin scent after 2 hrs on me with occasional pleasant wafts) Projection: LOW Sillage: LOW Tested from a sample vial without an atomizer.

This is pretty bang-on Light Blue as others have said. That used to be signature scent in high school, so I’d know! I would say that the lemon in this is a bit less “screechy” & more natural smelling to my nose, but that could just be because I got this as a dabber sample with a Sephora order, so i might not be getting that initial blast. As it dries down and the osmanthus begins to show, I do definitely get that soft peachy vibe as opposed to LB’s green apple. However, unless someone was super into fragrance like most of us on here, I don’t think they’d be able to tell the difference in passing, especially since LB and LO are both grounded by cedar. Basically, if you have one you really don’t need the other unless you’re a huge citrus lover. LB would be the more budget friendly option considering it’s widely available on basically every discount fragrance site :)

The citrus and cedar will likely always bring comparisons to light blue. But you can't beat how high quality and natural this scent is. At first I was not blown away but now I crave it and look forward to wearing it. The lemon has a tiny bit of a true tanginess and slight sweetness which takes it away from feeling like furniture cleaner. And the floral here, osmanthus, is super soft ... not screechy like orange blossom and neroli (although I do love neroli) which are used in a lot of other perfumes. I get compliments with this summer wear. And it is a mood booster in winter. It feels light and close to the skin, however, I find that people can pick up on the bright, happy scent when they are within a couple feet. Still sad that Atelier Cologne was sold and pulled out of North America. Grateful for the back up bottle I have.

To me, this is a true to life zested lemon (30% of the fragrance) combined with your favorite cedar chest (70% of the fragrance). The citrus is very soft - so if lemon scents are often too strong or "cleaner like" for you, this would be a good fragrance choice. The woody base is very cozy and slightly sweet (exactly like inhaling once opening a cedar chest), so this is a comforting fragrance. Picture a cozy day in, wearing your favorite oversized sweater, with the windows open on a sunny fall or winter day. Putting away laundry, or puttering around while holding a glass of hot lemon water. Your home is furnished from Ikea and is both modern but also minimalistic and calming, with lots of white and lighter wood throughout - and you can smell the real wood as the sun hits it through the windows.
