Sud Magnolia

This is a really gorgeous perfume. I agree with the reviewer below that it reminds me of Chloe Eau de Parfum and its flankers ie. Roses de Chloe and Rose Edition. The opening of Magnolia Sud is a bright, effervescent citrus chord. I can detect a prominent grapefruit with its bittersweet rind, and less of the bitter orange - although I can also see why it’s there. Really beautiful, fresh, smooth and sparkling citrus. Then comes the rose! This is a clean pink rose and peony type of accord which is why it makes me think of the Chloe perfumes. Feminine, pretty and perfect for whenever. I love wearing Magnolia Sud in summer and it really works with my skin chemistry. Sparkly citrus at first then a fresh floral rose, and then a subtly sweet, musky rose. Definitely has development as time goes on and is not linear. As for the other notes - the magnolia has been brushed over by roses and creates quite a fresh fantasy accord of florals. The florals are then sweetened by the fruity blackcurrant - never too sweet or too much - again, very subtle. The citrus plays a major role in lifting the composition. Bright. Fresh. Sparkling. Yes I repeat myself :) This is a light scent to spray generously with. My favourite from Atelier Cologne. This scent is devoid of their synthetic citrus-woody-herbal-patchouli signature which I am quite tired of honestly. Magnolia Sud is sweeter, and more feminine. Sillage: Not amazing but just enough for someone to smell sitting next to you. Works well with people with higher body temperatures. Longevity: Pretty good for Atelier - I give it a solid 4-5 hours and then you will need to respray. But who cares? The opening is amazing!

Oh I love this one. The first spray is very fresh, vibrant and real citrus blast. Mostly grapefruit with a bit of tart orange. It's super refreshing. After the perfume settles a bit then it I start detecting the wood in the background and some sort of floral smell. I really don't know how a magnolia smells like, but the floral tones are there, but subtly. I read a bunch of reviews saying this was a rose explotion and the first time I tried it, it did give that vibe. But now that I actually own it, then I get more of the citrus than anything else. And the citrus stay there for all the duration of the fragrance, which is not common. They do become more subtle and give more way to the rose and the musk with the woods. I'm quite surprised that a lot of people find this one not long lasting. On me it stays there for about 6 or 7 hours although the sillage does diminishes as time goes by. Around the 4th hour I'm quite sure it is very soft. I love it. Can not say any more about it.

Citrus-Floral Magnolia with Pomelo & Rose... I just have an aged sample of this, but I'm enjoying the pomelo-magnolia and I can't stop sniffing my wrist. As it opens, I get the pomelo with citrus, floral, fruity, sour & faintly green tones, but already here the magnolia & rose are swelling through which give it a deep floral tilt - not quite the lemon-y rose of geranium but along those lines. There's a soft fluffy sweetness as well, and as it transitions to the heart I get a scaled back saffron which adds a spiciness to the floral impression. This has light to moderate performance, although better than expected once the sillage wakes up, and it would likely perform best in spring-summer. There's a simplicity here, but it's also unique. I would definitely wear this in spring-summer. It's a love for me. Enjoy! Update: Testing this again, I'm struck by the opening, leaning a little to geranium before it turns creamy. Love it still.

i never know the scent of magnolia is but when first sprayed this fragrance remind me of Roses de Chloe from Chloe. it slowly changing and in the end only the orange scent left, which definitely makes this fragrance unique and not too feminine. i never thought that i would love a scent of bitter orange but it turns out that i love it. i love the fresh and uniqueness offered by this fragrance

It’s a beautiful citrusy magnolia for about 5 mins,,then on me it turns into a faint skin scent that I can barely detect. Too bad, if only it lasted at least a few hrs. So no, this is a pass for me as well. I think if they sold it in larger batches as a body spray and lowered the price considerably then more ppl would be interested.

A nice sample from my Advent calendar. I like this scent, more of a feminine one smells of Magnolia and Roses mostly, and I am a fan of both. Fades into a dry down of citrusy, sweet woods atop a nice bouquet. Pleasantly lingers on my skin nicely.

This smells exactly like Casablanca at dusk time in the summer. So rich and flowery. An absolute love discovery.

Love this old winner from a Sephora Samplers set. Bitter orange, almost peppery. Floral and wood dry down.

I have a 10 ml purse spray of Sud Magnolia, and that's perfect, because I've developed the usual ambivalent feelings about it that I almost always do with Atelier Cologne's offerings. Once again, the opening is pure love for me: a vibrant, natural, altogether delightful burst of citrus and magnolia. I've never been to the American South, but if Savannah really smells like this, like AlphaLimaTango mentions below, I'm going! So once again, I'm totally sold, until that wonderful opening wears off completely in an hour or so, and a subdued musky skin-scents with only an echo of magnolia is left. This isn't bad, exactly, and at least it doesn't develop in a more masculine direction like many others from this house do, but to my nose the greatness of this one is definitely limited to that first hour. So I'm glad to have my 10 ml, so I can experience that lovely opening from time to time, but that amount will probably last me a lifetime.

Sud Magnolia by Atelier Cologne--ya basic, buuuut, you smell really good, last forever, and project like a beast. I bombed out my coworkers for several hours with just two sprays. The opening is sweet, juicy citrus with soapy rose and magnolia. I've never sniffed magnolia flowers, so i'm just going by the note list. The sweet juiciness quickly dries down to a fruity floral turned up to 11. The trademark Atelier clean, woody musk plays a big role in this fragrance and sometimes a warm saltiness in the form of celery shows up. Sud Magnolia isn't original at all, but it's well done--good luck getting rid of it in the shower. 3/5

I got the little Collection Azur set from Sephora, and this was the only one I kept for myself. They are supposedly all unisex fragrances, but while the other three seemed very masculine, this one strikes me as totally feminine. I don't really pick up a magnolia scent here, but the fruity-floral fragrance is nice, if not quite worth the high price. I'd say Love & Toast makes equally fresh citrus-florals (Sugar Grapefruit, and Persimmon Plum) that smell more natural, and are a shocking bargain. (The Atelier Colognes do have much better staying-power, though).

The first magnolia tree I can ever remember smelling was on a vacation in Alabama. Gorgeous white flowers with a scent that smells like heaven. I fell in love with this fragrance. I think Atelier does a great job recreating that authentic smell with Sud Magnolia. I absolutely love it. Only downside is the longevity. On me, it only lasts about 2 hours. That bummed me out. Will keep looking for a long lasting perfect magnolia fix... Enjoyed this sample so much, I am going to look into planting a magnolia tree in my backyard!! Happy smelling! :)

Smells better than it looks I thought I'd hate it but then I smell rose (opening) and also Orange. So it's femme but then that Masc kicks in. It's not Rose after all it's Magnolia. That's to say, this is how Magnolia smells... Strong opening then disappears, I don't hate it but don't like it either. Wearing summer '18 at night time. I think I'd wear this out but would not repurchase. Not as bad as the blue one "Cedre Atlas". Definitely more tolerable though no cigar...

My local Sephora SA knows me well, so when I was in she ran up to me and announced that they got their hands on the new quattro from Atelier. When I sampled this I thought she gave me the wrong perfume as it is very similar to Rose Anonyme. I didn't get a chance to wear it so I can comment on development etc, however off the bat smells very similar to the Rose from this line, even though the notes do not suggest it.

This delightfully pretty scent opens with a bright blast of rose and pomelo very reminiscent of Chloe Roses on my skin. This has a lovely creamy light citrus heart; the magnolia, orange and musk keep this bouyant and prevent this from settling into anything too laden down by heavier synthetic spice notes. A citrus rose cologne more than soliflore magnolia by any means but absolutely lovely all the same.

Bright citrusy magnolia/rose opening. Light and energizing but feminine; this is like cologne for women. The citrus is zingy, the florals delicate and lovely. After the citrus dissipates you're left with a pretty but generic light fruity floral. Not a challenging fragrance by any stretch of the imagination but likeable and pleasant. Decent longevity, but only the floral notes. Feminine but upbeat.

I find this to be a sharp orange scent to start out. It has a very heavy opening scent that my hubs isn't a fan of. It becomes a floral scent but still retains sharpness on me until the dry down when it is just a warm creamy sandalwood. I used an entire sample vial and bought the large bottle.

It's very pretty scent. The cedar mixed with the citrus notes is beautiful (not at all like pinesol). I got a decent longevity and sillage from the perfume. However, these type of woods give me a horrible headache and asthma. If not for that, I would have purchased a larger bottle.

Magnolias as the star of a fragrance? Yes, please! This starts off beautifully, but as others have mentioned, after that it just stalls and fades. It's like a quality body spray. It's fresh, bright, and cheerful. Perfect for a spring or summer's day.

This is so refreshing to the level I can say it has: rehydration-feel to it! But it is unfortunately doesn't last at all; I get 30 minutes of light projection then it is subdued skin scent for 4-5 hours and then it is completely gone!!

This one smells quite aquatic to me, it reminds me of the smell of rain. It's similar to Nest Dahlia and Vines, but that one leans more green. I think this is a clean, pretty fragrance that is easy to wear and suits most occasions.

This is pretty! The magnolia note is most dominant on me... Reminds me a lot of the latest Chloe EDP in that way... Very spring appropriate. Still lingering close to my skin about 6 hours since my initial spray this morning.

Very elegant citrus magnolia scent, pleasant, full of harmony and grace. I'd buy it if it wasn't so bitter on my skin. It is so sad that many citrus-based fragrances are so lemony on my skin!

Smells like orange-flavored Tang (kool-aid like drink powder).

Magnolias are beautiful trees I admire every spring, and so underrepresented in perfumery. And Sud Magnolia opens with such a strong grapefruit note that made me think I wouldn't even find any magnolia here. The first impression is fresh and juicy, but close to my skin the grapefruit smells musty and stale, a problem I usually don't have. Surprisingly I get wafts from the sillage that are almost like a different perfume. A very pretty, clean magnolia focussed floral that reminds me of a classic face and body cream, something in the ballpark of Nivea. Later in the drydown the funky side of the grapefruit vanishes and the fragrance smells like slightly lemony magnolia petals on my skin. The longevity is okay for a citrussy Atelier, there are some noticeable heavier notes like rose and musk to anchor the fragrance, but it stops to project too quickly for a scent that smells better in the air than close to the skin. All in all I think this just doesn't really work for me. Also, if I was looking for magnolia, I would want something more floral. This could just as well be called Sud Pamplemousse. Not what I expected.

I'm not crazy about this one, despite thinking Atelier Cologne has some very beautiful (albeit short-lived) scents. This one opens with a very strong celery scent. I think this is the citrus (although truly, it smells like fresh cut celery, and not in a good way). It does die down after about a minute, and more of the floral comes through. I never really do get much citrus. The celery never goes away. The floral notes are quite pleasant, but the celery undertone continues throughout the dry down, which also happens very fast. I can smell it if I put my arm about six inches from my nose for about 30 minutes, and then it is down to a total skin scent and has completely disappeared after about four hours. Even if I was fond of the actual scent (which is just meh, considering all the celery), the performance would make me not purchase this. It's the worst for longevity out of the 10 or so Atelier fragrances I've tried.

this starts off very citrussy and bright. i think i get some sweet hints of black currant but it's very subtle. the florals are there too, and they just get stronger and stronger along with the citrus on my skin. i must say, i really like the pomelo in the beginning. this has one of those modern musks that kind of goes hairspray/paper on me. i have noticed it in other atelier perfumes but they have deeper notes so it balances it out a bit i think. here it just adds oomph to the citrus. after a few minutes i get a hint of the florals. this isn't a very creamy magnolia, but after awhile it's there along with rose and a strong modern musk.

I'm never picky about the way fragrances smell, and I feel like my nose is super strong in the sense of being able to pick out notes in colognes, this is the first fragrance I smelled that contains saffron, even my nose hasn't smelled baccarat rouge 540, and yet I get the 'band-aid' smell from it. This sample I got of Magnolia sudd does not smell like Magnolia at all to me. rather citrusy leather varnish, but it's not classic citrus. It's the citrus that would be commonly found in those pricier fragrances, and whenever I keep smelling this all I can think about is the vintage element to it.

I'm going through two sets of samples (and in some cases three or four with individual scents), and so far, I'm still of the mind that what Atelier does best is what they set out to do: citrus. Reviewers below talk about "creamy" heart and "magnolia" but all I get is a faint whiff of "white musk floralcy" after the initial citrus burst (which is their specialty and mostly done well in all their scents). It dries down to more "white musk" and perhaps a touch of rose in a generic manner. That's it. I would not spend another nickel on this. Longevity and silage are appropriate for a "cologne" but not "the types of colognes" that Atelier produces (which are akin to some edps) that have the 15-18% juice. So, this really IS a cologne: fleeting, low mileage, indiscernible to those right next to you. There are too many fantastic, memorable scents (and ones including magnolia) out there in a variety of price points. I still think their Orange Sanguine, Mandarine Glaciale (and oddly, Oud Saphir)are their best quality fragrances.

I wanted to like this one, and from the nozzle I really do, but once it gets on my skin, I'm not a fan. Pomelo and magnolia can be challenging notes for me, they tend to turn sour, bitter, and smoky on me, and Sud Magnolia definitely does all of those things. I smell rose here too, but it's just so musty, no freshness.The worst part is that the the unpleasant sourness wafts around me like the smell of a fresh perfume that has gone off - memories of my mother's old Clinique Happy come to mind. But this one hasn't gone off, I can tell because when I smell it from the bottle, it smells fresh and beautiful. It just doesn't suit me I guess. I guess I am not alone, as TaraRachelle below me also thinks it smells of celery! Shame :(

Atelier, what is your obsession with soapy citrus? If Orange Sanguine is a mouth full of dish soap after a glass of orange juice, this surely is a mouth full of dryer sheets after eating a grapefruit. As always, the top citrus notes are delectable and juicy, but they give way to roses and whatever they are calling 'magnolia' (it's a strong, sweet floral, but unlike any magnolias I've smelled in real life) which I find jarring. The final drydown is clean, musky and probably the most feminine I've smelled from this house.

Listen although this is not priced as a niche fragrance or nor does it preform as one it smells like one. Meaning it’s not ur average smelling fragrance, please do not be fooled as I was by the other reviews. when applied to my skin I got a mixture of tree sap and dried up pancake syrup. Very linear did not change from that. Tbh I wouldn’t even give this away because it smells that weird.. so it wil probably just collect dust in my collection..

This makes me feel nauseous and I truly don't know why—I SHOULD like all the notes in this. It's floral in a musty (not musky... musty) way, heavier than I'd think. Plus it fades quickly which was a blessing. Not for me.

the must (I agree with the prior commenter, must, not musk) is very hard to smell around. it smells old in a mostly unpleasant way, and it's not a gentle effect at all. very hard to smell any sweetness either

If I said I like it it would be in my drawer already. First spray is so strong I can't accept it. Later after 5 minutes I feel strong wood covered with some medicine -lab scents. No for me.

All I get with this one is very sour, bitter citrus. It just doesn't work on me. It might smell better on a man. I wish I could smell it as the floral that some have described.

Rose is first out the gate, but it's quickly overtaken by an acrid, unpleasant smell. It reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on... a cleaning product perhaps? Orange-scented pumice soap that's gone off? The rose is still present, but doesn't improve the situation. Something vaguely resembling magnolia emerges in the dry down, although that bitter detergent smell lingers for a bit before transforming into sweet, almost creamy pomelo. Just a hint of woodsy musk in the background. This stays close and fades very quickly on my skin. Within thirty minutes, I can only smell generic musky rose soap with a touch of magnolia. Overall, I find it very unpleasant and wouldn't waste my money on overpriced scent that disappears so quickly anyway. Hard pass.

I wanted to like it but I just don't. Smells like cat urine for 30 minutes. Very earthy, "wet", citrus-y. Very bitter, musky. Lots of things that just don't work on my skin I guess. It does mellow out and isn't as harsh, but it's not appealing on my skin. 3/10

I got a 100ml in a mystery box. Horrible, just horrible. The rose is so overpowering and to strong! Do not blind buy!

This perfume is different from my usual fare. I normally love rosy or white florals, and sweet vanilla or fruity scents. This fragrance opens with biting bitter orange and the pomelo everyone notices, aggressive in a good way. The dry down is a bit disappointing though, I am having trouble smelling the more nuanced notes. I have caught sniffs of rose (on clothing) at around 2 hours and maybe magnolia (on skin) after 4 hours, but overall I just smell orange juice on skin for pretty much the entire duration of the scent (more biting bitter orange on clothing, aka the top note(s) seem to last a very long time). I think there's some musk or something at the tail end, but to be honest it's nothing I'd care to sniff twice. I love the opening, and the idea that they use 90% natural oils, but this scent is a bit too much like plain OJ for me. Interestingly, someone else was able to smell obvious rose, and "clean" - whatever that means. No magnolia, though the flower is in its name. This is my favorite of the four from this set, and I might get a small bottle just for layering, because I love that biter orange opening, but honestly I'm hoping my bottle (from the Sephora sampler set) was just filled from the end of the vat or something. I just got a spray sample from Sephora, in hopes that spraying it onto clothing will show more florals than dabbing it on my pulse points (and awkwardly onto collars and hems). It's kind of sad, of the sampler set this is the only one that's unique, more than just another generic floral. At least the samples (almost) all smell pretty good, I'll get good use out of them.

After the initial spray I get a fresh, sweet and floral scent with a little bit of bitterness. You can smell a very dry rose note if you concentrate a little and if you really concentrate you can smell the woody notes. The bitter orange together with the magnolia (I'm assuming that's the very prominent floral note since I don't know how Magnolia smells) and bitter currant is always present to me. It reminds me to some sort of a mix of a Haribo like gummy candy with a little bit of tea after 5 - 10 minutes of applying and it stays pretty much linear after that (gets soapier until it fades). It's an ok blended and likable fragrance, but nothing too special compared to other AC scents imo. Don't get me wrong though, this has got the typical AC quality ingredients that is superior to many other citrus scents, it's just not as good/special as the other AC fragrances. I'd have prefered less citrus in this one and a little bit more (floral) notes - would have been a little bit more interesting. Moderately lasting and moderate sillage. Leans feminine, but not unwearable for men... maybe a little difficult though.

This is lush, beautiful, fresh, and effortlessly floral. I'm a huge Magnolia lover, hailing from Georgia.. and it's so annoying that there aren't many good Magnolia fragrances out there these days. Though this fragrance isn't very close to an actually magnolia, it still evokes a very fresh, noteworthy personality that I could attribute to such grand flowers. My only complaint is that the smaller bottle is so ugly, but I don't want to spend the extra money on the pretty, big bottle. I disagree that this smells like Rose Anonym.. that one made me think of Montale, for some reason. It was a dark, sweaty rose fragrance, unless my memory fails me. This one is much more breezy and fresh, and it actually reminds me of Jour D'Hermes, just less citrus and more florals.

This is southern charm to me in a fragrance. It is walking outside on a vibrant morning in Savannah to have breakfast on the veranda. It is as charming as a true southern gentleman. In this world of shock and ah I quite love this fragrance as it brings the classiness of days gone by back. It opens with tart citrus. The dry down brings in the magnolia and oh so soft smoke. If I am not thinking about it I catch notes of rose, although this is not your granny's rose. This is old fashioned roses on a bush in the breeze on a warm summer day. They type of roses that slightly perfume your laundry you have out on the line. I am not into the overly female scents; rose is a huge turn off for me most of the time. But Sud Magnolia is the perfect feminine for me.

I am a big fan of deep, multi-faceted olfactory creations. However, it is not every day that you have a wish to read a deep and serious novel by, say, Dostoevsky. There are days filled with lighter moods, when the books are lighter as well. The same is also true with regard to scents. For days in the nature, I choose Atelier Cologne scents with pleasure: they do not interfere with the fragrant forest air and still allow you to feel the flowers encountered on the way. Sud Magnolia feels like a duet of a flower (magnolia) and ... dried apricot from Usbekistan (which is most intriguing: nothing of the kind is mentioned in the pyramid). The drydown, which is similar to the beginning, although naturally milder, stays for hours on my skin.

While this smells awful on paper, you really need to give it a chance on skin. I personally love (and wear) Atelier Santal Carmin, and was thrilled to see another atelier frag containing Saffron!! I tend not to love overly floral scents, and always gravitate towards warmer, woodier scents. However, this perfume has that ultra floral feminity with enough grounding in the base to give off a warm, confident, nocturnal smell. I'm very intrigued, keep smelling my wrists- will have to wear the sample out and see if it passes my "get compliments" test before considering to buy.

30 seconds after spraying I am surprised by how woody it is. I am smelling citrus pencil shavings. After it dried down a bit I am getting lime + a white flower. I have lived in Louisiana my whole life where the magnolia is our state flower. I am surely not smelling the variety of magnolia we have here. The one we have is citrusy, but not like this. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I was expecting a magnolia solifore, a perfume photograph of a magnolia blossom. This isn't a terrible perfume, but it doesn't capture what I hoped it would.

DEEEE-VINNNNNE. Absolutely divine magnolia scent with loads of fresh juicy orange. Unfortunately much like most heavenly experiences, it's quite fleeting. 30 minutes tops. I can prolong it a teensy bit by layering it over Alfred Sung shi. That prolongs the character of the perfume, but nothing will keep those luscious orange and magnolia top notes around. Nothing. This is one of which you're going to need both the 200 ml bottle AND the 30oz freebie because you're going to constantly be spraying.

Like many other Ateliers, opening notes are strong. Sud Magnolia is all bitter orange and magnolia. Initially I was intrigued, but the scent profile never changes, it only loses power like others in the Atelier line. The one caveat about this line is that they know how to capture and mix beautiful, natural scents. I just wished they either had longevity or were priced like a body spray (think Guerlain Allegoria line of EDTs). But it's expensive for what you get so another pass from me.

This is a lovely magnolia scent, very natural -- this house does a good job capturing the "true" scent of something in nature rather than a perfumey interpretation. There is a slight note of citrus in the opening -- this house also loves citrus so it's not surprising -- then it settles into a beautiful, natural, creamy magnolia scent. Delicate, light, feminine. Wonderful for a work or day time event scent -- nothing overpowering but you can still notice it. Another gem!

This is initially very sharp, almost acrid, and I assumed at first that there was black pepper in the opening. As it turns out, it's just very, very sharp citrus. It does calm into a bright, quite straightforward magnolia with a rose note that's kind of muddled into something vaguely "florally" - not rosy, but flowerish. It's not a young scent, but it's not matronly, either. It's a good, nocturnal floral, though not exactly for me.
