Bois Sikar

#1545 in my "Tour de Fragrance" FYI, Dua Fragrances makes a dupe of this called "Woods of Rajasthan", $36 for 34ml. But I bought this 100ml bottle on clearance at OlfactoryFactory.com for $95. So you'd save nothing. And yeah, Dua's are all extraits, but this "Bois Sikar" leaves an oil slick there's so much perfume oil in it. Miris also does a dupe, #45379, that sells on Amazon for $18.71 for 100ml that I also own, which is pretty close scentwise, pretty good quality, but not as "all day long" on longevity as this. Definitely do not spray clothing with this stuff! (Shouldn't do that anyway). It will stain. Usually with this much oil and so little alcohol, the silage suffers, but the silage here is strong and the scent lasts all day. It's very woody, good tobacco note, but mild, not intense and sharp, nor ashy to my nose. My old man was a cigar aficionado. This does not smell like that at all. The vetiver is just as strong as the tobacco, and the styrax combined with these notes comes off like gurjan balsam. Definite overtone of green and resin that gets stronger in the dry down. Usually these notes hide behind cinnamon and citrus in scents like Mancera "Red Tobbaco" and Maison Alhambra "Exclusif Tabac." So this is different, and not unisex at all, which I suspect is why the low rating. For me it's a successful blind buy at the top of the range. $5 more and I'd have gotten a decant to try before buying, but I already had the Miris dupe, so I gave it a shot. But this one isn't for everyone, and definitely not for most women. Get a decant from SplitScent.com or FragrancesLine.com before paying over $100 for this or any scent scent only to find out it's not for you. ScentSplit has it for $5.99, LuckyScent for $6, Fragrancesline has it for $6.99. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Look — I know the BBQ comparisons are everywhere. People out here writing poetic essays about smoked cedar, charred cigars, grandpa’s old humidor, and a campfire in a Cuban jazz bar. But let me be real with you: To me, Bois Sikar smells like smoked salmon. Straight up. No chaser. No brisket. No pork ribs. Just a cold platter of silky Norwegian laks that spent the night in a wooden sauna. And you know what? I love it. Unironically. Deeply. Religiously. "But no one wants to smell like fish" they say. I truly want to smell like salmon, I do. I really, really do. It seriously helps you outlive your true identity as a fish Imagine this: You're walking down the street, dressed in black linen and quiet confidence. Someone stops you — “Excuse me, what are you wearing?” You lean in and whisper: “It's artisanal... smoked fish.” And just like that, you ascend. The drydown? Still smoked salmon. But like... if it had a cigar in its breast pocket and whispered nihilistic advice in French. Sillage? Moderate. Projection? Like a fishnet thrown across the nose of unsuspecting strangers. Compliments? Only from people you should marry or fear. Blind buy? Absolutely. If you've ever stood in the IKEA food section and thought “I wish I could be this herring,” then this is your moment. Venturesome Experience: Bois Sikar is an audacious frag for sure. I've been wearing this bold, smokey, and woody scent for a few days and it makes an impression. It is high quality Niche perfume and a splendid addition to the Atelier Des Ors - Black Collection. The initial spray reveals the unique character of Bois Sikar -- the smoke, cedar, and tobacco burst forward like cracking the door to a cigar bar filled with all the aromas rushing into your nostrils. It's not a smell to accentuate but an experience. BS is so well blended the strong notes invite you in and then confidently hand you a single malt whiskey neat. It's ballsy, unabashed, elegant, sophisticated, seductive... this stuff is great! It's a man's man scent that the ladies want you to smell like. One reviewer on LuckyScent stated, "People will love you or hate you." That's most likely true, but either way they will respect you. BS stands beside the other Atelier Des Ors: Black Caps in my collection, but he's so confident he'd securely stand alone. Finally, Bois Sikar has excellent performance: 10+ hours longevity with hours of strong projection. He will not disappoint! Also, BS garners numerous compliments and unsolicited statements as if others are compelled to acknowledge him.

11/29/22 post-Covid edit: Alcohalic wood, or medicinal, clean, clear-headed, not drunk, dirty or debaucherous. Smells great on a doctor or I was... as clean. It's there but not really there performance... Need heat to glow, on skin is dry, bitter, woody, genuine oud? or benzoin from some Styrax sp... precious, uplifting, transcendental as the name suggested (an India city? Mayan language the word "skiar" for "smoking") just it's delicate enough, in a thing called nature way. -------------------------------------------------------------- Since it recalls Myths, and it's said 1805 Tonnerre is like, I borrow the most and secondary voted note from each page, they're ash and gunpowder, for me the smoke here smells like fireworks in the air, not barbecue nor bonfire whatsover, if there is something burning, it's likely it has already brunt, only embers remain and glow with heat. Smelling ashes and gunpowder in the air, bringing a sense of coolness, in a way like brand new freshness, is this the smell of: the war is over, or about the futility? To anticipate a prosperity to come after another destruction.

In the top, the styrax, spices, woods and vetiver will give an impression of bonfire. In the base, the tobacco shines with a support of incense, booze and woods that will slightly round the edges. The late drydown is all about an incredible vanillic guaiacwood, supported by a salty vetiver and incense, giving an ambergris effect similar to the one found in Terenzi's Dionisio and Eight&Bob. Simply stunning. The top is a cross - to my nose - from Beaufort Tonnerre and Coeur de Noir, much more than than Goodsir Bois d'Ascese (which is dominated by dry incense). The late drydown is a cross between TT Dionisio and Houbigant Bois Mystique. Heavy - but not invasive - projection and stellar longevity (24 hours+) I agree with the previous reviewer: this fragrance exudes elegance. Glad I could secure a bottle and at just $140 a pop, this one smells even better. Stunning... Have I said it already? Fall/Winter evenings, 30+

I've had this for a while and I think I can now give it a review. I got inspired to get this fragrance by Robes08 from Youtube since we have similar tastes in perfumes and wow this did not disappoint. This is one for the cold winters, the scent profile is what we expect from a niche house (not all these funny houses with funny fragrances and prices). This is deep but not too dense at the same time (it diffuses into the air and gives a good sillage in the cold air). It starts of with a very complex scent profile which stays so for a couple of hours but however dries down to a very sweet woody vanilla scent. The longevity for this is very good, a solid 8 hours (pushing for that 9 hour mark). Final verdict: Scent profile 9/10, Longevity and Sillage is 8.5/10.

Shouldn't there be a Whiskey note in it? It is really dark and heavy scent with a lot of boozy nuances specially in the opening, strong ashy, smoky dry-down still with the whiskey tones. Incredibly unique and powerful creation, at this moment I can not really say if it is similar to any fragrance I know and I would say it is one of the strongest performing fragrances I know, up there together with the Erba Pura, Tobacco Vanille and Dior Homme Parfum, it is really strong. Almost used up all the decant, really looking for a full bottle! Just incredible!

Sampled it a couple of months ago and the moment my nose sniffed this scent I knew I had to get a full bottle And I did and iam here to contemplate Let’s break it down If you are a person that look at fragrances for artistic measures such myself you will be happy with it If you are a mainstream fan and someone who prefers designer brands do not approach it Unless you are a cigar smoker and don’t mind a hefty dose of smoke I can say you will love it I personally loved it and the performance is excellent as well

If you like smoky fragrances, I urge you to give this scent a try and give it time to breathe. The first spray is definitely like sitting too long by a campfire or BBQ pit but over time it gives way to a sweet, delicious woody aroma. The smoke never goes away completely but it evolves into something much more subtle over time and the scent is not linear at all, which really surprised me.

The driest smokiest scent I have ever smelled. A mixture of BBQ and fireplace.like you are sitting by a campfire for centuries ! Unique , deep and dark. The dry down is more woody spicy but still smoky. Do not look for delicate incense here in fact the smoke is highly photorealistic. A much more civilised perfume than some reviews here would have you believe. Nothing like smoked meat or fish, but more a sweet smoky amber, and more akin to A City On Fire than the sour Bois d'Ascese or the monstrous Tonnerre. So if those were a little too raucous for your tastes perhaps you could try this gentler affair.

Bought 15ml decant to explore the brand expecting something like patchouli 24. One thing is very different, though there are some heavy woody notes – but what a masterpiece. Masterfully balanced and addicting. Absolute beauty.

A state-of-art type of a scent. Smells like a heavy smoker's breath, in sexy way. Little patience and you get a heavenly musky dry down that is worth a shot, unlike Bois d'Ascese. Worth trying in a little warm application.

Absolutely love this one . Just added full bottle to my collection. Definitely reminds me of tonnerre by Beaufort. Class scent.

Smells like those liquid glues with a brush

Moody but not as magnificent as I'd hoped. Simple, dark, linear smoky generic woods; not at all bad, but if you're enough of a fume and smoke-lover to have already explored the market in that area I can't see what Sikar brings that is all that new or noteworthy. Very much a rougher, more astringent, less rounded and less mellow take on Bois d'Ascese, I think; the more austere feel of this makes it skew more male, and also less luxurious. If you're going to do a fragrance like this that's literally all about wood, with nothing else (no spices, florals, aromatics), it really needs to be premium timber, but to my nose this doesn't have the rich array around those central notes, the sort of fullspectrum of woodiness, that better efforts can have. I don't really pick up any specific tree in particular - and gaiac is my favourite note of all notes, so that's a very big fail in the middle. And it doesn't evolve much over time; yes it mellows slightly as it fades, but that's about it. Even though I like the general aura and the idea, on the wrong day Sikar can be harsh, almost bitter - probably the styrax, which is often spiky and difficult to me. So many things are rather like this, at other price points, that full Atelier des Ors RRP seems a very big ask to me; though I do feel its kinship with Larmes du Desert, another sparse and often unpopular AdO scent which I absolutely adore. There's a bit of the same bandwidth - a dark-spicy-desert frequency- in there which really appeals. But the rest of it's just kind of lacking here. I get a feeling if I had it, I'd have to layer it with something more ambery or resinous - or even floral-spicy - to really feel like I was having fun, so why not just get something which smells all-round delicious in itself, for less money? Still, if you really really REALLY love dark woods - worth a try to see if it hits closer to the spot for you.

I liked it much more than Bois d'Ascese - it's much more wearable, because of more pronounced tobacco, styrax and guaiac wood. What I mean you still get plenty of campfire smoke, but this one gives me extra aura of sophistication, more than just imitating (in a very good manner and with splendid results) a place deep in the woods, a situation - an amtosphere even in case of Bd'A. If we're talking about the vibe or whom may like Bois Sikar - definitely confident, dominant, lonewolf/outsider type men who does not really care for pleasing everyone around. BBQ-like (but not really, cuz I got only spices, not smoked meat like in T-Rex Zoologist smell) feeling is present in first 2h, however I perceive it as illusion of my senses and I can break it down to blend of tobacco, styrax, guaiac wood and vetiver, which is ranked way too low in notes, because it adds lots of raw smokiness. Longevity is fair, 4-7h, but projection is pretty close to the wearer and after first 2-3h I struggle to smell it on myself again. In the first 2 hours I would describe it as moderate, at an arm's length away (I think I've slighltly oversprayed - 8 sprays total, because I've read about weak projection in the comments section). It works on my skin better (in terms of projection) than Bois d'Ascese which has better longevity but intimate projection. I think projection and sillage are okay, because stronger whiffs could be overwhelming. Try it, if you like polarazing scents, heavy tobacco and real smoke focused with lots of dry woods and you don't mind fair amount of styrax in! I will consider getting bottle for sure, but definitely not in regular, retail price - I wouldn't pay more than ~140-150$ for fb.

On my skin, Bois Sikar opened with a dry balsamic note and then quickly developed into a very smoky scent, which may remind some people of cured meat or fish, as some of the reviews mentioned. However, if you have experienced smoked-processed traditional Chinese herbal medicine, you know what this fragrance smells like. This makes sense since the processing steps for some traditional Chinese herbal medicines are similar to those used for tobacco. Bois Sikar is dark, dry, and smoky, with a prominent bitterness. It’s a very interesting scent but definitely not a safe blind buy. I also noticed that the concentration of perfume oil in this fragrance is quite high; it still leaves an oily mark on the wrist even after being sprayed for 5 minutes. -- 2023.05.27 update: Remarkable longevity, it remains on the skin even after showering (I vigorously applied soap to my wrist where I had sprayed it). The final stage of the scent is 100% smoked meat. Despite what others think of you, it's pretty cool to be a slice of walking smoked bacon.

A viking after a good bath. I love this. It's very interesting. I get instant nostalgia from scent association. It's a vetiver dominant scent that is far from boring. Lingering smoke is a feature. There's a balmy resin thing going on. Very woody. I love camping, it's my favorite thing to do for vacation. This has a smoky linger you get after a good camping trip. It takes days for the smoke smell to fully go away. It's pretty prominent after the first good cleaning, you enter a common used building and you realize how smoky you still smell. This is like that but better. I love vetiver but it has gotten so boring and redundant for me lately. This is vetiver redemption. Woody and smoky in the air, vetiver up close. The brand has so much more pleasing scents. This is very niche. Hard to wear. For some reason I feel this fragrance needs the beach and some fog to bring the Scotch whiskey out. A murky salty sea air. Otherwise it just reminds me of winter out in the country with wood burning ovens used for heating.

Hot dogs, bbq, BBQ Pitts, campfire scented clothes after hanging by the campfire the night before. This is a cool fragragrance to have for collection for olfactory memory value. This scent brings back memories of being with my friends growing up and partying by campfires in the winter. Where I would where this? Probably in a cigar lounge or suite and tie event or with a blazer/sports coat. I do not recommend blind buying this. Get a sample first. I was on a quest to find a cigar like fragrance and I found Afnan tobacco Rush. Afnan tobacco rush=Cigar humidor. Bois-Sikar= campfire smoke scent.

Brilliant evocation of smoke, peat, tobacco. The opening is very strong, so use lightly and give it some time to settle down on your skin. If you don't like smoky scents, you probably won't like this, but it is a very clever, unique scent. Part of the inspiration for it comes from Islay whisky, whose flavor has been compared to a peat fire because peat moss is used in kilns to smoke the malted barley. "Campfire" is accurate, but it's a fragrant campfire. No barbecue, to my nose! Also, this lasts a long time.

Very pleasant smokey scent, in my opinion better than both Tonnerre (a bit harsh and salty, borderline unwearable for daily wear, more a piece of art) and Bois d'Ascese (mainly a boring linear smoke + whiskey smell and bad performance). This one is ideal, it has a good presence and it's blended better than the above two. The smoke note blends nice with the woody notes, and there is also a bit of sweetness in the background. The drydown is a sublime, tobacco-ambery smell.

Dries down to Pure class. I like wearing this when I don't want to smell perfume on me but still want to exude elegance. When worn under the sleeves of a snug fitting, dress-up sweater, you will exude sophistication and no one will know where the scent is coming from. Not to mention your closet will smell like the most expensive real-estate.

This is, indeed, a heavy fragrance (at first), but I don't detect any barbecue sauce at all. There's the thick, leathery vetiver, and there's a heavy animalic accord. There is a dense food scent that I can't quite put my finger on. That may be where people are getting the barbecue sauce, but that's not what it smells like to me. If you don't like extremely heavy fragrances, you can wait an hour, and it will lighten up considerably. While the opening is on the strong side, the dry down is actually rather faint with very little sillage. That's a shame because I really like it after the opening wears off. It transitions into a woody scent with hints of animalic leather, a touch of tobacco, and a sprinkling of nutmeg spice that round it out very nicely. It's unequivocally masculine and very nice once the offensive opening wears off.

I received a 15-ml size as a gift from an event. Upon the first spritz, the smokiness immediately invaded my surroundings. I definitely got the tobacco and woody notes, and there was a lovely balsamic hint, but the smokiness was still too intense for my liking. I tried to layer it with Lune Féline, and the combination seemingly worked better for me (the creaminess decreased the intensity of the smokiness without eliminating it at all). After smelling the fragrance, a co-worker told me that it reminded him of a campfire. Another co-worker said it smelled like charcoal-grilled fish 😅

This smells like a cigar ashtray to me. Very slightly sour, like real tobacco ash is supposed to be. Also, there is a woody note. But that's all I get, start to finish. I don't like cigarette or cugar scents, and I don't like the ash of either of them either. I would definitely say this is a love/hate fragrance. Peraonal score: 6/10. The quality is there. The look and intent is spot on. But it's nit my kind of fragrance. I can appreciate the experience and the imagery in isolation. But I would never wear it.

Never understood the idea of wearing a barbeque sauce scent .. pass for me

Testing blind from the ScentXplore bag, this opened like a smokey mezcal, all smokey and ready for some chicken to finish it off. There's elements of leather in there, but the whole smokey foodstuff vibe it gives off for the first 30 minutes or so leaves more hungry than confident in my personal fragrance. It does reduce down quite a lot with this time, calming to a smokey vetiver and kiln dried wood. This is a lot more palatable than it's first hour. By then you get a dried wood, almost vetiver like scent. Also feel it reduced down to more of a skin scent, but it's still moderate projection. Looking at the notes now, whatever precious woods it's referring to, I get hickory or other chips used for BBQ, nutmeg I don't get, nor styrax, but yes on the guaiac wood, cedar leaves, tobacco leaf, and java vetiver oil. It's just too foodstuff-like all the time, so it's an easy pass from me.

Boring... I've smelled this many times before. Imagine : a Smoky fragrance with some resins, Vetiver, and mixed with a healthy dose of Iso - E. Throw in some gold flakes to give the impression of luxury, and you have Bois Sikar. I wanted to love this as I am a fan of the notes, and there are some reviews raving about this. But it does smell like smoked meat. And I don't mind smoked meat... But all this has been done better by others. Want a smoky and deeper, more interesting wood? Try Targa by Blackbird. Want deeper and more complex smoke with interesting greens? Try Hyde by Hiram Green. Not bad, but not good either. Not worth the asking price. Try a $10 sample from eBay and decide for yourself.

IN my Alicia Keys voice- this fragrance is on fire.... I am a huge fan of Atelier Des Ors - every one that i have purchased, I adore and I absolutely love Replica by The Fireplace - so I almost blind bought this one. THANK gosh I did not - it is not for me. This reminds me of City on Fire by Imaginary Authors. It is so much smoke fire smoke smoke fire and wood. It reminds me of someone trying to light the grill with far too much lighter fluid that the whole thing is up in smoke. Im bummed, I will retry in the winter to see if I change my mind but at this time it is a NO.

Anyone else reminded of Le Labo's Oud 27? I am, forcefully. Also this is like Bois d'Ascese but at thunderforce. I'm not finding this to be pleasant, a bit sickening, actually. Notes: Wood, smoke, oud. And something weird. BBQ/Campfire/Smoked Meat. Rubber. I find all of the reviews before mine to be utterly accurate. Nothing more to add.

unbearable burning woods,rubber opening.i had to put Chanel Eau de Tendre above this scent. some flowers to make this wearable. fortuntely later i could not feel it..or at least my nose could not smell.. maybe other people did :P

The opening and first 30 minutes are intense - smoked campfire and burning peat is all I got, until it dried down a bit and the sweeter malted whiskey came out and the smoke calmed down. I still wouldn't wear this.

Smells like a testosterone driven beach party with a campfire and a barbecue. Then top it off with a dusting of gold flakes. Not bad if that’s what you want to smell like and are willing to part with $275.

Don’t like it. Too much styrax. The smokiness of styrax muffles the other otherwise delicious notes of tobacco and Vetiver. Why? It’s supposed to be all about the woody notes, not the smokiness of styrax.

This is photorealistic the smell on my clothes after a motorcycle ride on a cold humid night in Athens Greece when everyone and their mothers are using their fireplace. Pass.

Disclaimer: I’m the type of person who’ll shower immediately after coming home from a bonfire. That might be why I can’t appreciate Bois Sikar at all. Bois Sikar starts out smelling like straight up barbecue sauce on me. If I was standing next to a grill, anyone would be forgiven for thinking I was going on it. Now, I don’t even like the taste of barbecue sauce, and I like the idea of smelling like HP even less. After a while, and I do mean A WHILE, I smell like a bonfire. That’s it. Not "precious woods", or "tobacco leaf", or even amber. Bonfire. I find it overwhelmingly unpleasant. I really couldn’t handle it, this is a scrubber for me. I wish I could at least appreciate the artistry, but honestly, just set something on fire instead of spending 230 euros if you want to smell like this. I would consider this a very masculine fragrance. That being said, if I went on a date with a guy who smelled like this, then... Oh shit, my friend just texted me that she’s in the hospital. Gotta go.

At first, I thought “Bois Sikar” was going to be the fragrance that finally changed my mind about this brand. The opening actually seemed interesting and quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, after wearing it for a short time, it started to become overwhelming and nauseating to my nose. What I mainly perceive is a lingering smoky effect that reminds me of that heavy post-barbecue smell, like a grill slowly burning out after cooking meat. That particular olfactory sensation becomes too dominant for me and ends up feeling unpleasant rather than refined. As with the other fragrances from this house, this is completely my personal opinion and subjective perception. I bought a bottle and ended up giving it away almost immediately after trying it. At this point, I’ve realized I simply can’t connect with this brand’s style of perfumery.

Wow, I must say I am amazed, but in a bad way! It is very harsh on the nose and strangely it somehow nailed the unpleasant characataristcs of ciggaretes. Maybe not that far fetched considering the scent has tobacco as one of the listed notes, but it got none of the typical smooth classy tobacco in it. Look, I like tobacco scents, but this is not your average tobacco fragrance. If you like the idea of having a tobacco scented fragrance but all the ones that you have tried so far have been too classy, and you want more of that literal ashtray vibe instead. Well, be sure to give this a try! I asked around and I was not the only one who said this. 3 out of 3 people asked saw the striking similarity. Mad respect for nailing the scent if this is what they were going for!

One of the worst perfumes I have ever tried... This is a mess, flat, linear. When I was reading people saying it smells like BBQ thought they are being silly but honestly this is even worse. Lazy creation for a cheap weird scent like that. And don’t get fooled by these fake reviews the fragrance is not strong nor even complex... Lune feline is the best thing they made.

When I spray this on my skin, I get a blast of bacon. This tends to happen with smoky fragrances, so I waited to see if it would evolve in a better direction. It did not. This is a hard no for me, and I eventually had to scrub it off my skin.

Wow this smells awful. I typically don’t mind Smokey fragrances, but this literally smells like I’ve snorted a burning cigarette... I wouldn’t dislike it as much if it weren’t as difficult to scrub off.
