Iris Fauve

#1562 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Unlike some of the other reviewers I'm getting a lot of iris note from this scent. I would say if you already have "Musc Immortelle" this is very similar, but less of a marshmallow creme character. The scent is definitely unisex, but less feminine leaning than the brighter, more citrusy Musc Immortelle. I'm not getting the strong blast of cinnamon others are reporting. The liatris does give this a hint of clover honey and the cypriol gives it a hint of fir, but mostly I'm getting iris, patchouli, vetiver and myrrh and it's very likeable. I have noticed that I seem to like the whole Atelier des Ors lineup more than the average. Mostly it's that they always get noticed by the women in my life, several of whom are now wearing "Larmes du Desert" and "Lune Feline" and will probably fight me for this one as well. I've tried eight of their scents so far and this will be my eighth full bottle purchase. The quality of this very comfortable scent, as with every one of their scents I've tried, is fine. All day long on the skin, arm's length projection for a couple of hours. I would just caution that all musk and incense scents should be used with moderation in tight spaces. I don't wear them in an office setting myself. But they tend to be a hit on dates. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

A unique alluring delicate warm Iris. The scent is very unisex and would be beautiful on a man or woman IMHO. That said, some may feel the fragrance leans masculine bc it's not overly powdery or too sweet. It is posh though. Iris Fauve wafts through the air and lingers leaving a seductive trail. Truly captivating. I did purchase the 100ml - if you are aware of the House, you know how outstanding Atelier Des Ors presentation is... just stunning! Edit: Yesterday was my first full wearing of this fragrance and it is a true pleasure. Marie Salamagne is an artist (I own FB of Lune Feline & Iris Fauve). Iris Fauve is beautiful, luxurious, sexy - would be an amazing Spring / Summer signature scent. I first applied 3 sprays around 1 PM and received two compliments within a hour. The fragrance is easily perceivable from 6 foot away. I reapplied around 8 PM with 4 sprays and captured wafts all through the night while I slept. Iris Fauve is still present closely on my clothes this morning almost 24 hours later. The perfume is never overwhelming. I am pleasantly surprised with the performance (12+ hours longevity, 5+ solid projection) and the high quality ingredients sets this scent apart.

First of all, I love perfumes with warm spicy, earthy and amber kinda vibes, because as I often wear these kinds of fragrances during the rainy season or colder weather. And I’m so glad that I found this hidden gem. From the very first spray, Iris Fauve bring you into a rich and intriguing warmth of dry spices, like I get a hint of strong cinnamon here, and it’s kinda earthy and dusty at the same time. And then it becomes a little bit balsamic after 1-2 hours and whats sets this fragrance apart is the subtle yet distinctive presence of iris. Unlike its usual powdery floral character, here, the iris feels more subdued, and the warm spices kinda dominating the iris composition. But I find Iris Fauve is setting the stage to make you feels both mysterious, elegant and sophisticated when you wearing this. It is very a unique perfume to me, I personally loved this and I definitely wear this on cold weather or rainy season. And for the performance is quite good, projection is a moderate, but the longevity is great, on skin 2-5 hours, last forever on clothes.

Iris fauve is one of my favourite iris scent. Following the líne of bous d'argent by Dior but without the harsh vibe of the incense, sweeter and more subtle; and adding elements present in Dior homme, givenchy gentleman or impossible iris by monegal. This is one iris perfume more, worked in an oriental way, very balsámic and warm...this is one more but one of the good ones. The performance is good but, maybe, according to the price a bit scarce. However the scent is natural and very pleasant with a very ambery dry down if myhrr, labdanum and vetiver. Very good option for falla and winter as daily scent or ever for warm nights un summer. Scent: 9.5 Longevity: 8 Sillage: 7 Quality price: 5 Versatility: 8 Originality: 7 Global: 8.5

Iris Fauvre is the most interesting and elegant iris-centric fragrance I’ve tried or owned. I often find Iris pleasant, but predictable or underwhelming. In this composition, the shimmery-light qualities of iris are present with a honeyed myrrh accompaniment. Cinnamon and labdanum are present, but beautifully translucent and delicate. The rest of the notes blend into the background. Supremely refined, high quality, and wonderfully blended. Iris Fauvre lasts a long time, and projects well. The scent cloud is light and airy, though never boring. I go semi-noseblind to it after a couple of hours, which is a bummer. Fortunately, the people around me still smell it; their responses have been universally positive. Unisex.

Absolutely stunning and unorthodox iris composition. This is a spicy, warmed up iris. Unlike some other reviewers, I disagree with the "amber" classification -- I distinctly get the iris in the top and heart, capitulating in a heavenly musky dry down. Longevity is great. Projection moderate. Totally unisex.

To me this is Lune Feline with Iris, Myrrh and Patchouli. I really like this one and find it very unique and interesting. It is on the sweeter side; so, if you don't like sweet, I wouldn't get this one.

This perfume is too strong upclose and rather masculine but creates this amazing scent bubble that keeps you company all day. Great to attract from afar, not for intimate hook ups!

If you are looking for a warm spicy ambery iris that is unisex, you should definitely check thid out. So classy and elegant. Great for iris lover to use in colder months.

Soft, comforting, cozy, fuzzy, powdery but not too much at all. Beautiful. I can’t decide which I like better - this or Musc Immortelle.

at its best while the iris lingers... on me, dries down to a smoky, rhum and leather. try before you buy. i will buy.

Remember Johnson’s baby powder it smells very similar to that

I'm totally in love with this warm spicy scent. The price is ridiculous and I never saw myself owning it, but then I saw it marked down 50% on my birthday and thought it would be a great idea to treat myself. Turns out it's a wonderful scent for Christmas and warming my mood in the Scandinavian winter. I agree that it is resinous and ambery more than irisy (that is probably not a word, but who cares). I don't particularly agree with my previous review where I compared it to Ambre Gris, but the labdanum is indeed very pronounced on my skin. Still, this is not a dirty scent (labdanum can be both sexy and naughty IMO), it is very smooth. I find many scents screetchy and bothersome, but not this. Quite the contrary. I keep getting wonderful whiffs of it and every time I think "damn, I smell goooood!". Happy New Year! Yes, I'm wearing this while unelegantly wearing slacks and eating frozzen pizza. The perfect new years eve this year. And thanks to IF I managed to add just an inch of class to my enjoyable, unpolished and cheap evening. Cheers!

I think that there is great batch variation in this perfume I smelled it at an authorized retailer for Atelier des Ors and it smelled like what I said in the previous review. Now I smelled it again from another source and I can now smell what some are talking about, which is the blast of cinnamon that dominate the overall scent, less dry and woody than the other batch which I like more. The difference is significant it’s not small maybe its more like a reformulation than regular batch variation So take that into consideration. This one is average. Strong cinnamon, very very difficult to smell anything else until the dry down 7/10 Its good but I like the other formulation better

Opening with woody patchouli but soon shifting to a very buttery orris root, with cooked carrot facets. Beautifully warmed and balanced with some lightly spiced myrrh in the base that supports rather than smothers. And a lovely dark, sweet honey note that must be the liatris, folded seamlessly with labdanum. A smidgen of vetiver lifting the myrrh and cinnamon. This is actually gorgeous. Balsamic, honeyed, carroty iris! If that doesn't sound great to you you need to try it on skin to appreciate the warm, fuzzy accord (on card the myrrh falls silent). Iris Fauve isn't very me but it sings on my skin and it's very good indeed

Iris Fauve is an iris that turns warm and spicy. It opens with a wave of cinnamon over an amber-resin base. The iris slides through but never dominates. The heart dries down into woods, musk, and myrrh, adding even more warmth. It’s cozy, enveloping, almost sensual, but also a bit ambivalent, with mild projection, a discreet presence, and a character that never fully asserts itself. If you’re looking for a light or powdery iris, this one revolves around it with restraint.

Lightly powdery from the iris, but not iris-dominant to me. It's a spicy, lightly sweet resin. It has the same spice/smoke that Lune Feline has, but minus the cardamom and with a dusting of iris powder instead. Autumn/winter scent for sure, not super unique - while I love iris, this is more a smoky myrrh than anything. Scent: 7.5/10 Projection: Moderate Longevity: Moderate

I can't decide whether it's worth a full bottle... the opening is somewhat a typical woody burnt caramel resin, however, half an hour into it, there is something intriguing that peeps out from below. Is it the liatris? would have loved to smell it more but then the whole frag gets really quiet. ah.

top notes: woody, earthy, spicy, warm, cinnamon, musy, powdery, iris (subtle) middle notes: vanilla, cinammon, warm, spicy, powdery base notes: scent gone now overall a very pleasant fragrance with atelier des ors DNA! wearable with good performance. overall: 8.5/10.

I can smell iris, patchouli and leather... It is strange (no cinnamon or lavender, etc). More for men. Warm and dark for fall and winter. Not of office. 6/10

This is my greatest flop, 8/10 fragrance but I have magnificant and ambre sultan, I feel like it will not be used

The name of the perfume is "Vivid Iris", but I don't think it reflects the name. I smell smoky, sweet, spicy, earthy iris, it has a very warm tone, but it's not for me. It's like a cacophony, I feel something from all over. There should never be cinnamony-sweetness in it, it ruins everything! There's also patchouli, yes good. But unfortunately, it's not to my taste for now... need more time.

Opens up with good amount of iris along with some freshness, cinnamon and an earthy amber. Iris dials down really soon and moves to the background, earthy amber becomes more prominent with a mix of cinnamon and myrrh. It smells very unique and very balsamic to my nose. Not dirty though, but i find it a bit hard to wear. Not really loved it in first sniff let's see if it grows on me.

Iris Fauve is a simple ambery, benzoin-like, resinous vanilla with a slightly tonka-ish powderiness. it’s quickly turning into a hazy, shapeless mass. Almost no sillage a bit of an indistinct mess, it smells vaguely good but it's without any interest

Very ambery, musky and powdery, makes it too old-fashioned for me. The iris is there, and some very weak cinnamon, and it`s probably a good blend if you like such old-fashioned heavy musky granny perfumes. I just don`t.

A typical, classy ambery scent. Nothing unique or special about it, but very well blended. My nose is not well trained. I don't detect much iris despite the name?

For the most part i agree with meama's review on 6-9-23 except sillage is average. As everyone else has said this is more spicy/balsamic/resinous than iris.

I was kindly given the opportunity by a dear blogger friend to test a few fragrances from Atelier des Ors (thank you!), and here are my experiences with Iris Fauve: Iris Fauve can be translated into English as Tawny Iris, and it turns out that it's mostly tawny but not much iris on my skin. Upon spraying Iris Fauve, there is a very brief glimpse of aromatic bergamot. The fragrance is then swiftly dominated by an imposing cloud of the dry, hay-like fuzzy spiciness of tonka bean and the syrupy caramel sweetness of amber, hence my association with the tawny colour. As long as I make an effort to look through the opaque cloud of tonka and amber, yes, the iris and a few other listed notes are all there. The iris here is not the grey, rooty, haunting melancholy, nor is it the sensual, buttery tenderness that will melt one's heart, but a woody, doughy and somehow malleable chameleon that binds the other notes altogether. The warm, sweet woody spiciness of cinnamon is sprinkled on top of this iris dough like a fancy cinnamon roll, while the smoky, slightly sour faux-oud smell of cypriol and vetiver stirs in the background to add an exotic touch. However, as a whole, these interesting interactions are largely engulfed by the massive canopy of spicy, fougere-toned tonka and caramel amber, especially in its heavy-to-moderate sillage. And there isn't any significant evolution during its 10-hour longevity. If I don't pay much attention to the details, Iris Fauve wears mostly like a smoldering, sugary spicy amber-tonka-dominated oriental fougere that has a more pronounced tobacco facette in the dry down, and I wouldn't particularly think of iris if I had not known the name. As a result, I would not recommend it as an iris fragrance in the conventional sense, but rather put it in the subcategory of sweet amber fragrances with an iris nuance such as Jacques Fath Bel Ambre and Juliette Has A Gun Calamity J, or link its tobacco dry down with tobacco-iris such as Diptyque Volutes.

This was a blind-buying failure for me. I thought it would be a slam dunk; I'm a huge lover of iris, incense, and labdanum. Florientals built around iris are some of my absolute favorites. But Iris Fauve wasn't just meh, it was a downright scrubber for me... Granted, I enjoyed the opening. Myrrh-labdanum with a lipstick-y cosmetic texture. Definitely more of an Oriental than a Floral, but a very posh and refined Oriental due to the way the creamy iris plays around the edges of these balsamic notes. It's more of a floral iris than a rooty one, very warm, soft, and pleasing. The drydown, however, has a persistent, scratchy harsh woody-amber that is extremely irritating to me and a total deal-breaker. Upon further research, I've isolated it as the CYRPRIOL note that takes over, and which reminds me of the strong cocktail of synthetic woody-amber aromachemicals that are used as fixative for modern men's woody fragrances and some of the Montale/Mancera bases. I can’t bring my nose close to the cypriol wall without getting pricked. If you, like me, are sensitive to harsh woody-amber fixatives, this one is NOT blind buy safe and perhaps best avoided altogether.

This fragrance takes you on a journey from cinnamon/Holiday-Christmas Joy to musty old house to powdery-grandma smell...Hate me if you want but this is exactly why getting a sample is a splendid idea. This fragrance does start beautifully and if the cinnamon stayed through, I’d definitely recommend it but this turns so musty so quickly! Like a house that has not been aired in many many months...so yeah, ew.... Not a recommendation from me. Glad I tried it though!

I got a few minutes with a nice Iris surrounded by some burnt wood, and then it was an overwhelming cinnamon for the next hour. It felt like putting my nose down in my cinnamon jar. After that it smoothens down to a soft, earthy amber. I like Iris and amber, so I thought this was a safe, but now I'm glad I only spent some small money on a sample.

Disappointing scent for both a spice lover and an iris lover. Barely any iris, barely any cinnamon, barely any vetiver. I get resin, amber, some spice like anise and a distinct yelow floral note, possibility immortelle. Extremely underwhelming performance, almost non-existent sillage. I genuinely don't see the point of scents like these.

A dry, dusty, and spicy amber fragrance with a generous helping of a pretty fiery cinnamon and a less generous serving of iris. Initially the iris is almost completely overshadowed by the dense amber and that hot cinnamon, which combine to make a fragrance reminiscent of warm desert winds carrying spices and adventure. This feels far from the typical Iris fragrance framework of either powdery boudoir makeup scents, melancholy garden scents, or austere and sophisticated scents. Or lately gourmand adjacent plushness. In any case, as the fragrance ages on skin the iris starts to rise up from the desert sands as a velvety and buttery sort of counterpoint to the heat and the spice, making Iris Fauve feel well balanced and complete. I really enjoyed this on my second wearing, after I got over the surprise of there being so few cool purple or grey tones to this. Iris Fauve is painted in the colors of a desert sunset with only a ribbon of purple amongst the deep reds, oranges, yellows and browns. It’s warm, dry, spicy and a little bit exotic. Makes sense for a perfume called “Fauve”. This projects quite a lot for the first couple hours then tapers off and subdues on the skin til it’s gone in about 5 hours.

So here we have a rather strange perfume, but there’s something about that strangeness that I really like. What my nose is picking up is a resinous base, accompanied by a buttery iris note that I absolutely love. It’s not a perfume that projects; it stays close to you. It’s quite a particular, somewhat mature scent for very specific occasions. Like many perfumes from this house, it has a gold leaf inside. It’s definitely different, giving it that oriental, slightly powdery feeling, and a hint of sweetness that I enjoy and I applaud the perfumer for bringing this option to the table. But it’s not a perfume that would really stand out in my collection. There are other oriental iris perfumes that would outshine it, so to speak.

This is beautiful. A unisex Iris that far from an old lady powdery lipstick scent or a Parma violets nursing home, this has furry and crayon waxy aspects that are very comforting and compelling. The musk is clean, the nagarmotha a nice dark counterpoint. An iris with unusual warmth and friendliness, this is neither haughty, prim, melancholic, cold or aloof: rather it is warm and friendly and attractive and composed in great taste. This is a sensual fragrance to draw people to you as if you are a warm duvet on a cold day. You could literally wear this anywhere and it wouldn't be inappropriate. Complex but not complicated, easy to appreciate but not simple, this is very special. Santa Baby, I've been so awfully good....

This reminds me a lot of Oud Maknoon from Swiss Arabian. Oud Maknoon has a very strong pepper top note that disappates within an hour, but after the pepper note is gone I think these two fragrances smell pretty similar. Don't completely trust the notes on Fragrancita about Oud Maknoon but check the Swiss Arabian site for official notes (which are more accurate). I was a bit disappointed in this fragrance to be honest, I thought it would be more iris focused but the iris seems to disappear quickly. I agree with others saying to sample before you buy.

SOTD Iris Fauve Atelier des Ors 2/5 This was pretty high on my test list because of the notes. First spray is earthy and warm spicy. For me it has an almost stale aspect in the dry down but it goes away after a few minutes. The iris is more in the background than I was expecting. It does smell complex but it’s not for me. It smells like the same ingredients of Iris de Syracuse by Boucheron but flipped upside down. Glad I tried it but not a buy for me. Review is based on a sample included with purchase. Wore at home.

From the name, I was expecting an iris based scent but that wasn't what I got, this is a resinous scent focused on myrrh sweetened by tonka and a little bit of labdanum and a spicy touch from the cinnamon resulting in a resinous amber scent with a green woody touch from the patchouli, the iris is there, especially in the heart but it does not have a major role in this fragrance. If you are looking for an iris based scent this is not it and if you are looking for an Amber oriental the market has far better options.

The best dark/iris scent I've smelled, with the worst, performance ever, what a shame for such a beautiful perfume. This beauty deserves to be louder, more potent, noticeable and admired. It's the perfect Iris in my opinion, balsamic, and aromatic. If you like the Dior Homme line & Bois d'argent, get your nose on this one. The first time I tried it, the Iris was overshadowed by the Myrrh, the second time it started shining bright like a diamond. I also get some Midnight in Paris nuances.

I wish the iris shone more in this for me. Unfortunately, it's overshadowed by the cinnamon and the resinous myrrh, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just I sought this out specifically for the iris... Parts of this come across as Oajan and Angels' Share, and towards the dry down those elements calm down a little and the patchouli and musk come out. Overall as marvellous scent, just not what I was looking for...

Love this, but if you aren't a patchouli fan, beware. I get a biiiiiiiiiig patch note in this, maybe the predominant thing that I'm smelling off of it in the air actually. If you /are/ into that, this is fantastic. Everything combines into a sort of resinous haze with the iris imparting it's characteristic dryness into everything. Not something I would necessarily call an "iris scent" but it is good.

I find this a nice fragrance. Initially I pick up on the Iris, but it is very fleeting. It settles into what I thought was Ambergris, but judging by the notes on the list above, it must be Myrrh. I thought by the name it would be more Iris focused and that is what I was hoping for. A pleasant fragrance but I will pass as it reminds me too much of Powdered Veil, and I have a bottle of that already.

Do you wonder how scents can convey warmth? If you do, check out this perfume. I sniff iris immediately, but it's not the star here. Not really. A lot of dry herb, the kind you get from an incense store. It has a sweet quality to it, probably from cinnamon and patchouli. Hours later, the musky powdery character remains. I need to explore more scents in this category: woody, dry, smoky and spicy.

Musky and powdery amber with a cinnamon presence. The vetiver adds a bit of earthiness as well as a bitter bite. I was expecting to not like this fragrance as I find any perfume that has to have gold flakes in them to catch attention is just pretentious and silly. Not a bad iris and isnt overly dry and powdery like most modern iris/orris frargances on the market.

I don't get much iris here, just a chewy cloud of tonka and an overload of Ambroxan. This one falls apart on the skin within half an hour, and I am left with the smell of ambered rubbing alcohol. It's a blobby, synthetic mess. At this price, one would hope that more attention had been paid to raw materials and craftsmanship, but apparently not.

Received this as a free sample after I ordered some other scents. I forgot about it - I mean, how good could a free sample be? Well I'm pleasantly surprised. I get an amber and bergamot scent, a little woody but definitely warm. It smells familiar whilst also being different. I would wear this throughout the year on any occasion, I'm a fan.

I’m kind of obsessed with justthefactsman and his harem of women that love to smell him all over what a stud. And I agree with him it’s a lovely scent I let a coworker wear it and half the employees thought it was strong and beautiful and the other half couldn’t smell anything. So that was weird . But no hates against it it’s quite charming
