Peau D'Ambrette

Adore it. Beautiful, lovely, musky piece of perfumery. Opens like some forgotten 90's masculine fougereish thing with sandalwood and bergamot or something? Does that classic thing of sort of sucking in, it's a kind of gentle implosion that these fragrances do, then you know it's going to mushroom out into a real cracker and it does, mutates slowly into a silky smooth, embrace of musk with that gorgeous ambrette character. Very well made, considering I have similar perfumes and I love this genre Peau d'ambrette (now Bois d'ambrette) is still giving me enough originality to want to buy it. Yes it's 195 quid I think, and yes it's a fairly minimal perfume from a brand which clearly blows it's load on packaging and such, but that's all part of the reason the aesthetic appeal is so strong. But I don't care. I love it. Brilliant.

The opening of Peau d’Ambrette is pleasant and dominated by Ambrette. I like it, but was swooning when the lovely Angelica note took over in the dry down. For me—a sucker for the Angelica— I love it. If you like that note as much as I do, this is one of the best representations I’ve come across. I pick up sandalwood and musk in the base. An easy to wear scent, that is well balanced and straddles the unisex divide. I’m always a little annoyed when I find something I like, but lack of size options prevents me from going further. The pricing for the 100 ml is reasonable at $250, but I won’t buy it. I own too many wonderful scents that I won’t get through in my lifetime. But if Atelier Materi decides to release this in 30 ml, I’ll be first in line.

I’m not a huge fan of the open. The ambroxan is strong and with the citrus it kind of has a “popular men’s cologne” vibe. But wait there’s more!! When that musk/angelica and amyris combo comes in its perfection. And I’m not even really an angelica fan~ The longevity is wonderful too. Like the previous review I also wish they had a 50ml, but this one was was worth adding the entire 100ml to my already ridiculous collection.

Don't expect it to be loud, because it isn't. This is a low key beauty. At a first impression, I thought it was very nice and pleasant, but I didn't think anything more of it. Then I was swept away in a very gentle manner. Truly lovely. A hidden gem.

100% Unisex, for musc lovers. I can smell ambrette, angelica, musk and sandalwood. The sillage and longevity are moderate. To my opinion, it is an innocent skin scent, very versatile. 7/10

Sparkling Minotaure Paloma Picasso opens with a beautiful omnipresent sweet tangerine. Ambretta, ambroxan, they are not my favorites but here they are well rounded with everything else and do not offend. Masculine, fresh, simple and linear.

There is an aquatic note here that bothers my nose. It's a hard pass for me. -

Delicate herbal spicy fragrance, musk (ambrette?) is really nicely rounded and smooth. Very sophisticated and well balanced. Leans masculine and mature to my nose. I don't get any mandarin or ginger past the first couple of minutes to be honest. I must admit this smells very luxurious in this very modest and understated way, where you may not drag a lot of random attention with your fragrance, but if it's the right kind of crowd- they will know it's top notch! It also reminds me of Copper CDG.

absolutely love. I quickly finished my sample and followed up with FB. Some aspects of this are moderate and intimate but I also smell on me, next day in the morning. The ambrette and angelica combo is out of control. So dry and powdery yet very warm. Comforting and sexy. A lot of dualities here. A very special fragrance, definitely the house's standout and for sure, a must try.

The opening is a transparent cloud of ambrette and angelique, but boy! is it addictive! I was immediately in love in the opening, as it smells root-y but almost smoky (from angelica) and floral and musky at the same time. So dreamy! The dry down is close to the skin, but the angelica is still there, lingering nicely.

The opening of this particular fragrance is gorgeous, and then it drys down to something a bit more spicy and heavier. I actually thought about purchasing a bottle right away, but I restrained myself because I haven't given it a full wearing yet. However, this may be fbw because it's that good already. 8/10

Angelica, Amyris, amber.. I get a very sophisticated juice with angelica, sandalwood, amyris, ambrette, & a touch of mandarin. Not much to talk about rather than saying it's a safe sophisticated blend to wear. Nice.

is this the same as bois d'ambrette? The pyramid on fragrantica looks identical.
