Tonka Kumaru

In ABSOLUTE LOVE ! Tried today in store and oh my. She's staring at me from my desk where i proudly look at her, newly added in my collection. Irresistible. Amazing, feminine, sweet, powdery, dense, charismatic. Gorgeous new entry. Marzipan and deep Tonka marriage with a veil of cinnamon. Femme fatale and definitely for those who don't mind making a strong impression. Intense, loud and strong projection. Ritch. She tickles my brain in the best way possible, and gives me warmth and immediate comfort. It surrounds you in this great sweet and spicy cloud and melts your heart in a soup of serotonin. The barley was an amazing " softening" and "starchy" choice, along with Hay. What i find so special about this formula, is that it eliminated the sharpness of Guerlain Tonka Sarrapia ( which i own , love and will still use ). Among my almond perfumes ( and i admit they are many, more then a normal person should own) this, is my absolute favorite now. Queen hard to dethrone 💗✨️

Very good perfume. For whatever reason cinnamon is not mentioned in the notes/accords but it has a lot of cinnamon in it. For me it's a plus but probably for someone disliking cinnamon it won't be a safe blind buy. I think at that price range, it has to be mentioned in the notes. As a perfumer i recognize cinnamic aldehyde and also cinnamon bark in the composition together with Benzaldehydes. So clearly a cinnamon accord. For me it's very pleasant and i adore cinnamon (which was the trigger for me) but people who hate it, please test it before

Getting a sharp cinnamaldahyde opening that's not listed in notes as well. I like cinnamon so not an issue for me, the cinnamon fades to cardamom and hay like aspects of coumarin after a while and dries down to classic tonka almondy base and reminds me of Guerlain Tonkas. I was going to get Tonka Serrapia Extrait 75 but will get this one instead. Minimalist bottle design is a plus for me also.

This is a cozy, upscale, semi gourmand where tonka shows its almondy facet, think marzipan, almond cream, and soft vanilla warmth. There’s also a subtle toasted nuance from the barley and hay, which keeps it from becoming too sweet, but the overall impression remains very much in that marzipan / almond dessert territory with balanced sweetness. At this stage and since I already own Tonka Serrapia 25 which is my favourite tonka scent, I dont think I will upgrade my sample to a full bottle.

If you love Guerlain - Tonka Sarrapia, then you will love this!!!! This is soooooooooooo good. Not as deep as tonka sarrapia but still very close. Its like the Jr sibling to it. This is going to take the frag world by storm. I can't yet comment on performance as i only had a small sample sprayed on my arm but my goodness this is a major win and imo, the best so far from the brand!

To be honest, the opening was very interesting. Buttery, warm and slightly lactonic tonka when I first smelled it on my skin. After it settled, I got the typical tonka overdose with a light creaminess and a whisper of saltiness. Interesting, but not sure it’s something I want to add to my collection.

@Roadmaster Thanks for your review. I was close to blind buying the 10ml but saw your comment. I hate cinnamon in perfumes. Will order a sample and report back Update: OMG i hate it. It is definitely spicy but smells like chemicals. I guess it does smell like glue. Bullet dodged.

Too much amberwood molecules, pass

A very seductive EDP by Atelier Materi. Agree with previous reviewers that there is cinnamon in the composition, however, the standout elements are the rich cream and butter. Envision the creamiest almond-marzipan body butter that you have ever worn, and then add tonka for depth. Almond desserts are often offered at celebrations and weddings in several cultures and I feel that Tonka Kumaru does take you to a jubilant journey. After sampling for several days, it wears closer to the skin than I anticipated and therefore I am hesitant to instantly invest in a full bottle. It is summer safe when sprayed moderately. Compared to Blue Indaco (powdery green almond) it is more caramelised, almost toasted almond. I will continue sampling it later in Autumn to have a better understanding of the performance in cooler weather.

A tremendous release from Materi that I was able to try thanks to an official sample, and I liked it a lot. It’s an exquisite perfume, and the best word to describe it is buttery. It smells like a cream made of tonka bean and almonds. It’s incredibly creamy, rather than wearing a liquid perfume, it feels as if you were spreading tonka and almond butter over your skin. In the mid phase it also has an accord that’s hard for me to explain, like the feeling of summer when you apply those creams such as argan or cocoa butter. At times it even smells as if you had applied warm wax to your body. In the end, all of this settles into something much more intimate and vanilla-like. For now, after a first test, the performance didn’t seem particularly strong to me, but I’ll keep testing it.

The opening smells like marzipan, but that fades fairly quickly. The fragrance is really all about tonka. It reminds me of the deep drydown of many perfumes that use tonka, but I don’t particularly enjoy it as a standalone scent. This comes across as slightly greasy to me.

For me, sharp notes are detected instantly, and this is 10000% better, smoother & sexier than Chemin! Love at first sniff💜
