Smokey Plum

I'd say this is about 85% close to Plum Japonais from TF... BUT... I also suspect that the 10% difference could be the age of my vintage 2014 juice... So keep in mind that I'm comparing two fragrances that are about 9 years apart in age so there is no way on Earth that this could be a 1 to 1 clone... The Smokey Plum is actually a little sweeter and brighter with a juicier plum note when compared side by side with the vintage Tom Ford... However... The Plum Japonais has a richer and deeper scent of woods in the heart and base that comes with a well-kept quality fragrance that is also well aged... But in the end... Will I be looking for a new bottle of Plum Japonais when the rest of my juice is gone??? Nope... For the money Smokey Plum is a great substitution and will 100% scratch that itch... Chances are it will age beautifully as well... SIDE NOTE: I will also mention that Smoky Plum does not appear to be filtered... Soooooooo... Make sure you shake your bottle and wait a few seconds to be sure all of the sediment has been reincorporated into the juice before you spray it... (If you are into "Indie/artisan" fragrances at all I'm sure you do this anyway... ^_^ ) Enjoy... --- EDIT on February 06, 2026: After having this bottle for over two and a half years now I can say that with time and age this is like almost dead nuts for Plum Japonais... I'd say it's like 97% similar now... Great stuff...

I managed to score a full bottle of SP from a FB group reseller at a bargain price. When comparing it to my two 4ml decants of TF PJ, the similarity is about 99.9%, with the only noticeable difference being that PJ carries a stronger animalic oud note. That said, considering I paid roughly 40 times less for a 100ml bottle of SP than what a 50ml bottle of PJ would cost, I really can’t complain. I was tempted to go for Insider Parfums PH, but even that would have been six times the price I paid for SP. So, I’m more than happy to settle for this, along with my 8ml PJ sample.

I sprayed Japanese Plum on one pulse point and Smokey Plum on another and it's identical. Seriously, it's the same scent notes and I won't spend any more on getting decants from Japanese Plum. This product is made in Egypt and it was delivered to Canada in five days. Edited: After an hour, the staying power of Smokey Plum (on non-hydrated skin) is superior. Conclusion: If you appreciate Japanese Plum (unfortunately discontinued), not out of snobbery but really for this magnificent juice, when it is now overpriced, this blind purchase worth this buy.

Juicy but less ripe plums compared to TF PJ. PJ is also has deeper woods and earthier nuances to it. This is a great clone of it though, and I typically don't like clones, but when the fragrance is far discontinued and resold for $1000+ this just make sense. TF PJ is a master piece, but this does scratch that itch, especially for the price. I layer this with TF Tobacco Oud and it is so good.

I purchased two bottles of Smokey Plum. Not only because it's good, but some listings on eBay have Plum Japonais for $895.00. I'm glad I have a bottle. The difference to me is that Plum Japonais is a more animalic fall/winter nighttime scent. Smokey Plum is a fall/winter anytime scent. Great job, Athena.

Plum, booze, incense, smoke, earh. Just got my first bottle for spring and suits me right. Sweet but not too much. Kind of misterious. Love it. I probably will layer it with something like Ajmal's Mukhallat Shams to intensify the oud experience during winter eves and get closer to TF's PJ. 😁👍

After sitting in the back of my closet for 8 months...its perfect!!!! Absolutely Unisex and lasts the entire day on skin...I am in love! Has completely satisfied my craving for PJ

Love this so much but torn on which is better, this or Alexandria's Forbidden Plum. I'm very happy to own both. The Ladies love it too!!!

However I didn’t smell TF plum J but that smoky plum is extremely enough for me

Great fragrance for the price and *may* do away with the itch to splurge on Plum Japonais altogether (if you're okay with minor differences). I have to say that I get confused to this day what people mean when they say clone or dupe. Hear me out: As a simplest overview, Plum Japonais is a plum on a "dark" base. This is that as well - plum with a "dark" base. That's about where the similarities end for me if I'm being completely honest. The same way we don't go around saying all rose-oud's are just clones of eachother. This was "inspired" by PJ, and pulled off its own twist well. Side by side (I'm wearing the PJ on my left wrist and smokey plum on my right wrist; I've done this for multiple tests now) I'd say this is 60% similar (can get up to 80% on dry down). The plum note is slightly different. And although this uses a similar "dark" base, they are very different. This fragrance has a airier and less ripe plum than it's TF counterpart. I see a lot of folks calling juicer, but I'd only agree if we've established we're talking about a somehow juicy, but less-ripe plum than PJ. In PJ, there is some density and oomph to the plum note with the supporting spices. The plum here is watery and not as well rounded imo. It also begins to step aside a bit as the base notes kick in, whereas in PJ, the plum stays in full synergy throughout its entire course. For example, at the two hour mark, my PJ has a much stronger fruity-plum accord. Also, the immortelle I get, but I get only little amber here. Part of what made PJ shine was the brilliant ambery-resinous support from the base. This is a smokey base with little amber-resins (and even has an almost incense-like characteristic which could be considered a positive as some detect an incense accord in PJ). The smoke here is a less refined smoke and may not be rich enough for some (ie if you're used to stuff like Myths Man by Amouage). It reminds me of a hypothetical plum shisha with an emphasis of the smokey smell created by those coals. NOW, all this being said. Smokey plum is fantastic for the price. I just wanted to mention some key differences for consumers to consider. This is me smelling up close for my personal critique and enjoyment. In the air they will both smell similar enough for everyone. My only downside is the performance. My PJ is is not longer lasting, but has a nicer sillage and projects better while it around. With this, I get only get 5-6 hours of this scent but it is a skin scent within 30-60 min / almost the whole time, with it being extremely faint/almost undetectable at the 5-6 hour mark. Again, although longevity is longer as a skin scent, the projection and sillage leave much to be desired. I never comment on performance unless I've asked people around me multiple times. I'm guessing it just doesn't work with my skin as others have commended the performance. TLDR: TF PJ - Rich, spicy, ambery plum - 10/10 Smokey Plum - Airy, sweet, smokey plum (reminiscent of a hypothetical plum shisha) - 8.5/10

I recently began exploring plum fragrances, a perfume genre with which I have zero experience. I read Tom Ford "Plum Japonais" is the Holy Grail of spicy plum fragrances. And Sebastian "The Perfume Guy," who I adore RAVED about Athena "Smoky Plum." And I recently purchased Lattafa "Teriaq Intense," which I love. By and large, I just do not think plum is a perfume note that resonates, or speaks to me. Smoky Plum is a VERY spicy, juicy, boozy, ripe, plum-forward fragrance with an extremely smoky accord in the dry-down. The perfume is okay, I suppose. But I'm super glad I did not waste my hard-earned cash on Plum Japonais. Spicy plum notes are just not for me.

Athena does good work! Have several of their scents, including this. For me this was a bit too sweet with that nose-burn effect. Overall, great quality and longevity just not my style of scent. The name describes the scent exactly in the order of notes you'll smell. Fruity, smoky, and spicy. The plum is seems candied.

Another I never had the chance to smell the OG. I found the profile thru Forbidden Plum by Alexandria and was immediately drawn to the scent. I might prefer the Alexandria version just a bit. I sometimes wear them together or layered with Birkholz Iris and Wood. I live in the tropics so here it is 30C with 80% humidity alot of the year and this is probably not the ideal climate for this profile but, I enjoy it while it lasts and it is not something you are going to find a ton of people wearing. The perfume guy is who I learned about this one from and since I have bought a number of Athena Fragrances. I like wearing profiles that are discontinued.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by this perfume. Not having tried Tom Ford’s Plum Japonais, I cannot make a comparison. However, I can say that this perfume is rich and plummy, spicy and sweet with a hint of (but not too much) smoke in the background to avoid over-sweetness. I didn’t realize I needed a rich plummy scent in my fragrance collection, but now I do. I get fall/winter mulled wine/Christmas pudding vibes from this one. Truly a delicious scent, and great value for the performance ($65USD shipped from Egypt)

This is a really well crafted clone of Tom Ford Plum Japonais. As said by Joss007, do not waste your money purchasing TF Plum Japonais which price has reached unacceptable levels. Additionally, when purchasing the now discontinued TF Plum Japonais, you are never sure of its authenticity or the quality of the juice as the fragrance can be spoiled for not being stored properly. With Smokey Plum, the quality of the juice is guaranteed.

SP is lovely but too masculine for me to wear on its own, so I layer it with a scent that has jammy fruit notes to bring out the plum in SP more.
