41 Burlington Arcade

Wowza!!! This stuff is pretty special right here. Atkinsons are brand which I've admired from afar for some time but never committed to purchasing...until now that is and 41 Burlington arcade is the fragrance to tip me over the edge. I've very nearly bought Old bond street triple in the past and then haven't for whatever reason but that's a decent, masculine freshie. I'd say this shares the same kind of fresh, citrus/musk attitude and is incredibly invigorating with one key kicker which is present right from the outset and that's pepper. This stuff is a pepper bomb, in a good way the notes are so complimentary from the sharp bitter grapefruit opening, to the wet flint spark, earthy vetiver and peppery liquorice accord of the main body of this fragrance. It is straight up impressive and does put me in mind of Clive Christian V (I think it's V...the pepper one anyway) and of course in the designer realm the now discontinued and sort after Marc Jacobs BANG! such is the peppery dominance of this creation. Somehow 41 Burlington manages to be simultaneously more classy and more down to earth and masculine than either of those. A perfect combination of things coming together, I like the brand, I like the notes and execution of the fragrance and I like the fact that it is masculine, without being inaccessible to the female crowd but in my opinion, it's not exactly unisex. I like the unique nature of it too and a prime example of how to make a fragrance subtly smoky but show restraint. It's really good basically. The performance was hard to asses from the first wear but it's no monster and maybe you'd expect that from the price etc...but even if it's poor I will let it have a pass because I really enjoyed it. My girlfriend complimented it and from distance too as the projection and silage was massive to begin with before dying down. Fresh but woody and extremely spicy, it's a dream this one, I love it and will probably buy it.

#1137 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Normally I would not consider a scent with licorice or pimento, let alone both. But I got this decant many months ago, before I'd really hardened in those preferences, and I just popped it open this morning. This is nice stuff, and not because those notes are undetectable, but because they actually work here to create a unique, masculine, comforting scent. Still very musky-ambery, as have been the other few Atkinson's I've already tried, but it's different, and at 1137 fragrances and counting, difference has started to matter to me a lot. Also, despite the citrus notes, this is not citrusy at all, if that matters to you. I prefer it this way myself. Like the other scents from this brand they really are going for that nineteenth century "gentleman's club" vibe. At least what I imagine to be that vibe since the closest I've come was accompanying a friend looking over an abandoned "Oddfellows" building for office space conversion and lunch at a very old "Elks Club" in Tacoma (or at least the members were very old). With each Atkinson's scent I've tried so far you can almost smell the oiled wood panels and the mixture of booze and tobacco. I don't know if this kind of scent will appeal to the younger "Eros" and "Sauvage" wearing crowd, but I think mature, confident men will appreciate this as will those who appreciate them. Moderate, but acceptable longevity and sillage. Car pool, elevator and small office safe. I think acceptable for business or a dinner date. It communicates "money" more than "sexy", but for a lot of people "money" and "sexy" go together. So I'm in for a bottle.

i love Atkinsons - so Bond individuality, so aristocratic, so English, so classy, so refined, elegant and timeless ... i love this to the moon and back ... so glad it ́s soooo different from everything what ́s offered in today ́s perfume shops. I love that super zesty, fresh english greenness and fresh cardamom ... ultra classy feeling !!!! Unreal thing with that touch of barbershop (old le male) background ... but much less synthetic, much more rounder, warmer, pleasant!

I couldn't agree more with @miles. This scent is definitely the epitome of aristocracy and sophistication. Its freshly spiced-up opening paves the way for polished woods along with certain fougère qualities, which makes the composition zesty. I also smell tea, English breakfast tea with a lot of cardamom in the background. A guy who rocks the country club prep look can easily pull this off. Hot, sophisticated, full of zest and intelligence .

A unique fragrance really nice and smooth the pepper here is great it’s a beautiful scent with one single problem The performance is great for the first two hours the. For the rest of the other 3 hours it’s a skin scent

41 Burlington Arcade is a very safe and masculine scent which has some unique notes, but overall settles into something not so exciting. It opens with some gentle medley of citrus - grapefruit and lemon namely, alongside an absolute boatload of white pepper. The first time I smelled this it made me sneeze from the strength of the pepper in the opening. From here, thankfully the pepper settles down, and reveals a heart of warm, dry spices. Liquorice and nutmeg are cosy and sharp, while cardamom and pimento are smooth and fiery. This is backed up by a gentle hint of incense and a classical masculine base of Vetiver and cedar. There’s no denying this smells good, but it for me it lacks a certain excitement and journey. The combination of cardamom, nutmeg and pimento resting on Vetiver and cedar remind me of Clive Christian No. 1 - the quality is not quite the same but for the price difference this is a good alternative.

Hmm my first own out of the house of Atkinsons, 41 Burlington Arcade gives me that fresh woodiness, its so smooth and not overwhelming making it a perfect office or al-rounder scent. Its very subtle, not to overwhelming. You get that citron, pepper and woodiness from it making it suitable for any time of the year. It could be to weak, for a warmer scent but if you don't have a problem with a more intimate scent this is for you. Its one of those more gentlemanly scents, giving it that perfect contrast of a work scent. It does not scream for attention, it shows it off when you're close. The other downside is that it does not last that long, so I would also recommend it for night out at dinner scent. I get about 5h about now, it is starting to fade. I got it for 60€ making it a bargain, so im not complaining. scent 8/10, but in total 6.8/10 given its longevity (not bb safe, I yolo'd it tho)

First Impression. Opening is great. Beautiful citrus lifted by just the right amount of licorice and nutmeg. After the citrus and light floral has run it's course the pepper becomes more apparent along with the pimento, also lifted by the nutmeg and licorice. The pimento turns slightly smoky and I get some musk, and earthiness from the vetiver. Lots of pepper and then cedar. The amber is silent to my nose but the cedar is very prominent. Very nice and classy. Smells grown up but not boring. This is a treat. Scent 7.5/10 Performance TBD (still testing but seems to last over 5+ hours)

I think this gets too much love for how weak it is. Smells nice enough in the opening, but that opening fades into a mediocre skin scent fairly quickly. No one will smell this on you after a couple hours unless they press their nose into your skin. Also, I’ve smelled 40 knots before and this smells nothing like it. If you’re just wanting a nice fragrance with an anise/licorice note I would encourage you to check out 1725 Casanova by Histoires de Parfums instead of this as it performs better and smells a bit more pleasant in my humble opinion.

Woody, peppery, yet clean and refined scent. A good daily scent that differs from typical designers or super citrus forward scents that I'm honestly getting a little bored of. I also get hints of licorice and a slight spice from nutmeg. Definitely a more masculine profile. Reminds me a little of Prada Amber Pour homme, not as soapy, and the nutmeg feature reminds me a little of Burberry touch.

It reminds me of By Kilian Straight to the Heaven after the opening which has many similarities with Histoires 1725. After that opening, it clearly has similarities with Kilian. Good, I like this kind of aromas, aromatic, slightly barbershopy.

Great value, just get it on a discounter. Good 3-season dumb reach option in my opinion. The opening is reminiscent of a soapy clean root beer. The dry down is a nice vetiver woody scent. i’m

Black licorice + boozy & peppery notes. Mid projection.

In comparison to the 24 Old Bond Street duo that I recently reviewed from Atkinsons, 41 Burlington Arcade strays away from the Earl Grey Tea profile and offers a still distinctively British composition. White pepper is the first to strike, with a pungent and slightly funky spiced earth aroma that is soon accompanied by some citruses leaning more on the sweeter side; almost a candied lemon kind of vibe with a bit of grapefruit zest. Then the star of the show slowly arises, which is also the main culprit for the intended British association - liquorice. Liquorice, as you may now, is highly debated upon, taste-wise; some swear by it, while other simply can't stand it. I find myself on the latter. The British, though, seem to enjoy it more than any other nation. Smell-wise, however, there's less controversy, and while I am still hardly a fan of it since it is usually used to disproportionately sweeten up the composition, I think it was implemented rather decently in 41 Burlington Arcade. It is sweet, yes, a little woody and with its usual attributes reminding of aniseed and fennel, but here it's more minty/camphoraceous than anything. Minty-sweet, not brain-freezing minty. The cardamom plays a crucial role with that part too, maybe most of it, while the nutmeg and pimento take a step back with a gentle warm touch underneath. The base, however, is rather yawn-inducing. The patchouli gently takes over the camphor accord whilst introducing very tame woody accents. Some amber can clearly be detected playing its hand along some shy muskiness, overall getting the scent from "Ok, it's not terrible" to "Meh, it's whatever". Rather unfortunate. Performance was seemingly on par with 24 Old Bond Street and 24 Old Bond Street Triple Extract. That is, surprisingly good longevity, rather poor projection. 41 Burlington Arcade reached about 9-10 hours, while projection was pretty much gone after the two hour mark, with those first two hours being decent at best. Despite the liquorice, this is still a more predominantly fresher fragrance, as in it is not heavy at all, and the other components help to make this perfectly suitable for all-year round. Then again, it still has a bit of that classier, simpler vibe; the not-seeking-attention vibe. So the younger generation might hardly find it appealing, but someone looking for something more mature and simple might enjoy this. But is mature and simple enough to justify the near €200 price tag? I don't think so. Overall, it still doesn't do much worth to write home about, nor does it strike as something that should cost that much. In line with most Atkinsons' - simple, non-complex, distinctively British perfumery. Some people might enjoy that enough to warrant the cash-out, but if exciting compositions are what you're searching for, Atkinsons isn't your brand. If slow-paced and simplistic compositions are up your arcade, then give them some thought. The kind shopkeeper gave me a 2ml sample of this, as I do like other fragrances by Atkinson. The opening note of grapefruit here is both eye-opening and mouth watering. It excited me for the next stages, which, alas, took an odd turn. The citrus gets elbowed aside by a cardamom-y smoke note, which is not unpleasant, but left me emotionally adrift. The fragrance is overly businesslike or insincere, perhaps - I think of being in an office elevator on a Monday morning and the men are wearing this to appear like they are serious about their work. Or of being in a drawing room where all the jokes are stilted. That said, I like the house, so I'll give it another try next week.

Its a bit simple and boring, reminds me of Sauvage. Fresh shower, soapy scent. Very masculine and non-offensive but expensive for the lack of complexity.

Smells good but don't last. It doesn't look like an EDP, perhaps should be sell as an EDT or weaker.

I wish I could smell more lemon or more licorice from this but it smells like just a normal clean scent to me.

Like an idiot I paid £130 at Alicante airport! The opening is bright citrus with a liquorice twist ... so very promising but ultimately a total let down. Weak performance ... total bummer

I don't like this fragrance. Smells cheap and nothing special. 3/10.
