Atkinsons His Majesty The Oud

Saw a review of this by The Fragrance Apprentice on YT. Was lucky enough to get a sample. My previous Oud experience was with Shades Wood by Armaf and 17 Oud Mosaic By Banana Republic (Both of which have that Barnyard punch to the face fecal animalic choke the shit out of you by shoving your face into Musk Ox ass kind of Oud) You get the idea. This however is absolute class. Its like you've been drinking Seagrams Seven Crown Whiskey most of your life and then some one pouring you a Blantons neet in a slightly chilled glass for the first time. Don't get it twisted. This still has a hint of heavy oud especially in the opening. But after about 5 min it dries down to let the Amber, Tea, Vanilla, and Cloves come together with the Laotian Oud in a harmonious melody of scent so pleasant and luxurious. Bought a bottle the moment my sample went empty. I get many compliments. Even from women half my age. (in my 40's). This isn't blind buy safe. Not even a little bit. But if you have given up on Oud you may want to find a sample of this first. I get over 24 hours on my clothes so less is more. Notes to Nose breakdown: woody: Yes I hate to say it but the mid and dry down to me smells of Decadent and rich toasted marshmallow over campfire. oud: Obviously the Laotian Oud is stiff at first but dries down beautifully vanilla: Thats probably where I get the Marshmallow from. warm spicy: Yes a very cozy with the cloves and tea combo. powdery: Yes Amber: Very rich and luxurious Amber. animalic: Yes especially in the opening but if you can get past the first 5 min your in for a treat. green: I guess? Maybe because of the Tea? More of a spicy green than a lush green. leather: Yes its there and subtle but compliments the fragrance instead of trying to be the star of the show. balsamic: Sure its there but again not front and center. 10/10 for me.

A beautiful fragrance. Given the bottles presentation I didn't expect this. Had to buy a bottle. Starts off with a strong punch of oud, in the back we have the Vanilla & tea accord hanging around. After about 30 minutes of drying down we get a lovely balance of oud,vanilla, tea and some other notes that seem a mystery to me but work beautifully. The oud becomes less sharp and very resinous which goes nice with the vanilla. Longevity and projection are both very good. 12 hours later and it's still a skin scent. I typically wear this when the weather drops to cooler weather. So for me in Canada I'm going to be rocking this steady from october to April very happily. Suits formal or more casual situations fine. In terms of compliments, I got quite a few, no suprise a manly vanilla would resonate well with women. Lastly, compairing it to 24 Gold, I do kinda smell a similarity. 24 gold is a very good frag for cheap, and although it does have a bit of a synthetic scent to it... it's a great buy for a cheaper price. But it seems to be going for $50-60 on discount sites,where this I can get for $110 on those same sites.i recon the higher quality ingredients & much nicer bottle are worth the money.

Interlude without oregano. Which is a good thing - though it is the signature note of Amouage’s famous creation, not everyone can tolerate the smell of barbecue. His Majesty is smoother, more polite version. As someone who loves and can tell the real oud from no oud, I can positively say, there is none detectable, so noone has to be afraid of “fecal” oud qualities (when I see that written I always wonder why people who have an urge to write this even consider wearing or buying oud fragrances; it just shows how empty the term oud is in today’s mainstream perfumery - just a marketing catch phrase). This aside, it is really nice scent, very well blended, long lasting with mild projection (again an advantage vs. obnoxiously beast-mode Interlude). It is sweet, but not overly sweet - very tolerable level of sweetness tamed by the smoke and spices. Certainly will be my scent for upcoming holiday season as it instantly conveys this warm enveloping feeling of Christmas by the fireplace.

I love Atkinson's His Majesty the Oud. This is a truly beautiful non-skanky oud. It starts smelling a bit medicinal, which I suppose is the mix of tea and clove notes. Then I get the smell of burnt oud wood, almost like incense, which on my skin lasts forever. This smoky wood smell raises it's head from time to time, as if to remind you -Hey, I'm here!- The vanilla also appears from time to time, giving an overall effect of sweetness. It's sweet but not gourmand. I can't really differentiate the Leather, Cedar or Sandalwood notes. On me His Majesty the Oud lasts a long time. I'm wearing it right now, late August 2021, on a hot (but not too hot) day, and it just envelopes you in a nice smelling cloud. Oud in Summer? Why not? Many oud fragrances are of Middle Eastern origin, where it is hotter than here, so ... why not? A little goes a long way.

For me the mix of notes gives a vibe very close to the black licorice smell. But after half an hour the tea begins to appear and the effect is gorgeus. It is an oud but with and Green, fresh and herbal tone which is no usual. The performance of the fragance is great, as most ouds. It is tagged for men but i find It totally unisex. I can imagine perfectly a woman wearing this fragance. Scent: 9 Longevity: 9 Sillage: 8 Quality/price: 7 Versatility: 6 Originality: 9 Global: 8.5

Dry, dusty, dark, bitter, smoky, woody tobacco. I get some 'ashy' texture as well. And yes! This part (not the whole scent composition) reminds me of that part of Kalemat Black. Dry, crushed cloves (everything dry) is present, though not too distinctive. The leather part is not at all like TF but is what I imagine how the old dry leather garment pieces smell like when they become flaking and crumbly (from the heat of the Sun). After I let it sit, something aromatic cooling green, maybe black tea, pops up in the background and doesn't blend in with the whole scent. If there were oud, it'd be very westernised and quite woody and airy. The scent later becomes sweeter as it progresses.

None of the "reminds me of" section is right - Oud Save the King smells like Raghba, Oud Noir smells like Tuscan Leather with an oudy twist. This is neither of those two. Overwhelmingly a woody scent, oud, cedar, sandalwood, mixed with realistic woody vanilla bean. It's dry, but not entirely, as liquidambar (or styrax) pokes its resinous head every once in a while. Oud is cleaned up, smells like wood or cedar; there are no barnyard or funky smells here. There's a sort of mentholated sweetness radiating from it, and there's a light dusting of cloves. Black tea? More like a concept than a full-on tea note.

Take TF Oud Wood, give it nuclear performance and mix it with Ombre Leather and this is the result. Oud isn't fecal nor stanky. It all blends well and is quite smooth but still very potent. I don't really like most oud fragrances, typically because they are rose/oud combos, but this one is quite nice. It is a powerhouse of a scent and kinda reminds me of something from Amouage. In the end this is too mature for me to wear as I like young playful sweet fragrances more.

I really love this fragrance. It is extremely well blended and falls in the same category of tamed oud/vanilla such as tom ford oud wood. The addition of cloves and tea note is brilliant and gives the fragrance a burnt woods dimension that mimics an actual oud smoke. The oud used is very light, smooth and natural. The hole blend actually smells very natural, expensive and niche quality. Projection is ok and the longevity is good.

This is gorgeous. The smoked tea (Lapsang souchong) combined with mild oud and vanilla creates a light, rather transparent, and beautiful scent. It works equally well for day and night. For me this is more of a day wear: warm, transparent with a light Lapsang smokiness to add a bit of earthy mystery. As always, try before buying. It is a lovely scent but may not be for everybody.

Oooooohhhhh Myyyyyy Goooooood!!!! OMG! OMG! i just put it into my nose to sniff it from the bottle and it wont leave my nose the whole day!!!!! A big punch of oud/leather/cloves/cedarwood in your face surrounded by a warming ans bit sweet vanilla to save you from the dark monster. I'll edit the longevity after couple of wearing

A rich oud with dark burning woods and subtle warming vanilla that slowly comes out to play as the scent goes on. The vanilla never becomes more than a soft supporting note which makes me happy as I was looking for a darker oud scent. This is a beautiful, pungent fragrance. If you're truly into oud, this is worth trying.

Man this is a gorgeous oud vanilla scent! This is what Vanilla Oud by Vertus should have been. Unfortunately that one sucked balls, and was huge disappointment. I hate oud, and tend to never buy fragrances with that note, but my God Atkinsons sure knows how to use oud that smells fantastic. 8/10

This was love at first sniff. This is so smooth spicy with a soft sweetness. I really love oud fragrances and this is one of many i wil propably wear until i die. I honestly like it more than Oud for Greatness which was my all time favorite until i smelled this.

One of my favorites in my collection. Always look for something unique with a nice kick, after smelling about 20 perfumes with the sales-woman, His majesty the oud really caught my attention. Amazing scent with great performance.

I love this on my husband. I decided to wear this today and layered it with Lancome Oud Bouquet (not a love for me -too sweet and jammy for me). Perfect combination for this cold day!

it has such a beautiful and tamed oud note, it's not harsh and medicinal. projection and longevity is on the beast mode side. if you're an oud fan then you should try this.

I like this fragrance. Oud, sweet, spice, vanillic and earthy. Nice soft friend to keep you company through the Winter months. Agree with previous post underrated.

Smells spectacular. It’s hard to find another scent that’s as smooth and relaxing as this. I could realistically wear it with any outfit, anytime, anywhere. 5/5 🖤

My favorite "woody oud" fragrance on the market right now. It's very fresh, unlike some other oud fragrances.

#688 in my "Tour de Fragrance" My first reaction to the opening was "wow!" Obviously only an oud fan would be trying on a scent named "His Majesty the Oud." This is an "oud fans only" scent. Otherwise stay far, far away. The oud is on the same level as Reminiscence Oud, which heretofore was the oudiest of the many ouds I've tried out. Oud here is not a note, but a crescendo. I'm a huge fan of oud notes, but by itself the oud here is right at the limits of what I find enjoyable, so adding the dark notes of the black tea and clove bordered on overkill for me, especially in the opening, but that calmed down in fifteen minutes and the woodiness came forward. There's a hint of the ashtrays in an old-timey wood-paneled men's club going on here. Not just a men only fragrance, but not for the young I think. I hesitate to label it a "grandad scent", but it kinda is. Spare the car pool, the elevator riders and the small office denizens the projection of this stuff. I would never wear this to the office. Not sure I'd wear it as date wear either (If you have a steady partner I'd preview a sample with them before getting a full bottle of this). In fact I would recommend no one blind buy this even though the price is not bad, but I am getting a full bottle to wear for my own enjoyment, probably winter only. As a cold weather scent under layers of clothes I think it'll work (Not a warm weather scent at all). But I'm wearing it now on a cool May morning as I go out for the day, so we'll see what reactions I get. Update: My painfully beautiful twenty-something friend Rebecca said, "You smell good." So there's a vote in favor.

Perfect scent for a cold, frigid, winters day. Warm, spicy and smokey black chai with a dry vanilla and deep woodsy undertone. High quality, natural smelling and well worth the price imo. The opening is very lively and energetic as all the notes and spices dance... like smelling a tin of chai spiced black tea, and as it settles the woodsy heart notes symmetrically emerge from its roots creating a very comforting aroma. The base of smoked oud, vanilla, and liquidambar (which I’m not as familiar with but does smell VERY autumnal, like jumping into a raked up pile of dried and wet leaves) are prominent from the opening but continue to take center stage as moments pass. This transition, from opening to close, lasts about as long as it’s taking me to type this (15-20 mins) then settles to a slightly sweet smoldered ashy wood with some green, earthy/mossy elements poking through... it’s pretty cool. It’s not too heavy, it has a light transparency to it, yet dense enough to know it’s there and leave a moderate silage. I generally get about 5-6 hours of active performance while it gradually becomes a sweet, dry, woodsy vanilla skin scent. It’s very nice and I’ve come to really enjoy this fragrance since my first impression, that’s why it’s good to properly test fragrance and give it time to form a bond. Sometimes the best fragrances are ones we aren’t sure of at first. If you like scents like By The Fireplace, Stronger With You Intensely, Tobacco Vanille, Ombre Leather, Versace Oud Noir, etc. you’ll like this. It’s different and like I first mentioned, perfect for certain occasions or times of the year.

Alright so I have a nice 10mL decant of this that I haven’t worn yet but I can tell you one thing, it’s gonna last me a long time. I keep reaching for it to smell the atomizer since I’m very intrigued by the scent. What this smells like to me (I still have the smell lingering in my nose from 20mins ago lol) is sweet ash. I think of being a kid and cleaning the fireplace before use. This is a very smokey, woody, creamy, semi sweet, Oud. Not really what I was expecting but I suppose the proper time to wear this is right now with more than a foot of snow on the ground and -10*C. I suppose if you like Interlude Man or By the Fireplace this is one to check out. At this point in my journey I’m not one for smokey scents (I just always feel like I need to wash my clothes and shower) but I love incense. I don’t smell incense in here, I just felt I needed to point that out lol. I suppose I’ll update after a couple wearings but atm I’m happy I got a decant before buying a bottle.

This is nice. Sharp and spicy, almost like holiday spices but with a darker, slightly dirtier bite. Cloves and oud are the most notable notes at the beginning, along with what I assume is liquidambar - it smells ambergris-adjacent. The oud is very slightly animalic, though not 'barnyard' by any stretch. There's a hint of vanilla in the background which grows stronger as time goes on. Alas, I don't get any tea. My skin doesn't seem to like tea notes, which is very sad because I love tea and would like to smell like it. While there's smoke that could conceivably represent lapsang souchong, it could just as easily come from something else. It's quite a strong fragrance from close up, but the projection is low and dense. The longevity is decent. If you like oud blended with spicy notes rather than very sweet or floral ones, this is a good choice.

It is weird Alcohol is not listed in notes becaues i can smell some alcohol vibe in it, maybe Liquor or alcoholic bon bon. Then it fades and you can smell the cloves, vanilla, black tea. It is very unique scent, and also very pleasant, almost hypnotic. Good for winter. Uniqueness 10/10 EDIT* : it is also a beast, so be careful how many much apply.

it is a very refined version of kalemat black Both are sharing the same profile, but this one is superior.

Very Intense. DO NOT BLIND BUY! I love it, but this is Not for everyone.

Dry down is perfect but opening is too violent

Applies smoky moss. Fireplace and brisk herbal that’s almost menthol. Warm, but not sweet, tobacco vanilla resides in the middle - holding them together. Black tea. Vintage energy and chord of dry sandalwood keeps the warmth from being cozy. As it settles, smoke remains quite strong as amber honey builds. Smells like grandpa smoking sweet pipe tobacco. Strength and projection is good. Dry down just becomes tonka bean. Overall, it’s fine. Well balanced and different enough, just not a personal match. 1ST TRY: Opens warm, milky, sweet, clove. Sticky brown butter salted caramel and musky Madagascar vanilla rides the line too close. Curiously countered by tobacco, dry spruce/moss, and metallic smoke. Cozy amber/oud and faint green loam glued together by soap/shampoo. Blends reasonably uniquely, but something's off. Not in love. Projection and strength are fine.

Do not get mistaken by notes, there are close to none green tea smell in the opening to my nose. Opens with clove heavy warm spices but clove here more similiar smell something like when you boiled up cloves and let them sit for a couple hours then smelled the dried mixture more than a photorealistic dusty cloves. After 30-40 minutes evolves into the EXACT smell of incences that you bought from a random cheap seller. If you like those heavy smoky incence then this is for you. But for me a big no for sure.

Woody, smokey, minty (due to tea). I would've loved to smell this made with any other oud but Laotian, which is usually very woody but lacks the character of the other types of oud. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of a toothpaste: close up, the green one. Not exactly like it but smells similar to it a bit: the same green mint-iness. "Like" & Pass.

I'm disappointed in this one. The opening is harsh alcohol and burning woody something. I own some nice expensive oud scents and have smelled more than a few mid tier. This smells like an oud accord if you want to call burnt wood an accord. Trainwreck opening that turns into an okay vanilla creamy burnt-ish something. For the $100 USD I paid, I would rather save a little more coin and get something worth it. This is not it for me. Pricing is okay if you like this scent. Performance is respectable but not beastly on my skin. Try at your own risk. This is one that I'm in the minority, so I would say proceed with caution and do not blind buy. Returned.

With Atkinsons "His Majesty The Oud", I find myself plunged into a wintry odyssey, akin to a Christmas card steeped in the glow of candlelit nights. This fragrance, ostensibly embraced by many, raises suspicion – be it mye decant's dilution, mishandling, or it just being "off" the promised scent symphony is absent Judgment on packaging or glassware elude me, as I'm left with a meager, unimpressive sample—hardly a fitting introduction. Amidst the winter spice's bold proclamation, the oud's presence is but a whisper, a cryptic note playing hide-and-seek with my nose. A curious interplay of lipids or wax captivates my senses, a mixture I'd contemplate anew with a fresh manifestation of the product. As of now, however, it stands dismissed—4.9, a rating mirroring the dissonance in my initial encounter with this composition.

This is a Yankee Candle-quality LET DOWN. A fey, wintry concoction that is the olfactory equivalent of a Thomas Kinkade painting. The rating on this fragrance is nowhere indicative of the testimonials below. This is a complete bomb of a fragrance. It makes me sick. I guess we have bots on fragrantica as well

smells like smoked corn, hate it

So I blind bought this, it is officially my 4th Oud fragrance, My first which apparently has a source of actual oud oil(Laotian Oud), whether it does or not is really unprovable as far as I can say. The Ouds I own being Boss Bottled Oud, Armaf Special Amber Oud & Gucci Intense Oud, which all use aroma chemicals as far as I know to create an Oud Accord. The Boss Bottled Oud cost around £80 if I remember correctly for 100ml, the Gucci Intense Oud was £155 for 90ml and the Armaf Special Amber Oud was £36 for 100ml. First of all, credit where credit is due, Armaf have made a very nice fragrance for only £36. I would probably say my least favorite of the four different Ouds is the Boss Bottled, trying to mix Apple and an Oudy Wood scent isn’t for me, I like the Gucci I just don’t find it projects or lasts long enough for me to justify its price. I paid £205 for the Atkinson His Majesty the Oud, its has a certain funkiness to it and I surmise it’s because it does have actual Oud oil used within, it does have potency that smells different from Oud Accords.. I certainly wouldn’t say this is a blind buy safe scent, absolutely not.. Overall. 8/10.

Second review after a year: It’s been about a years since I bought this passion-evoking fragrance. During this time I have been trying to get to know this fragrance better and better, as this is not taken for granted notwithstanding many other fragrances not having any especial Features to acquaint. While the top note blows your mind with very special and unique combination of cloves and black tea, the transmission of middle note to base note over a couple of hours is really enjoyable to perceive. Laotion oud, very fantastic one, and styrax are easy to notice while vanilla is doing its jobs to gives them the heart they need. Atkinsons, like many other Italian houses blows my head and makes me buy this bottle and many others such as "oud fellow bouquet" again and again. Longevity:12+ on my skin, nearly 24 hours on my clothes. Projection:fills out a room in the first 4 hours, then you need a hug lol Uniqueness: 10/10

Been trying this new fragrance over the past two days. Here’s my take on it. It’s very different to what I was expecting, i.e. cloves, tea, burnt wood, vanilla and oud combo. First off, a prominent medicinal smell, not unlike ‘Deepheat’ muscle relaxant, comes to the fore, but after 20-30 mins calms down to a very faint vanilla and smoky woods. And that’s it. Don’t even get register the oud! It doesn’t last on me more than two hours, a faint skin scent if any. Honestly....I was let down. I was expecting something with a bit more ‘welly’, e.g. a clear tea note, stronger vanilla mixed with a Woodcut or Arso type wood scent, finishing off with a lovely, long-lasting oud. Is just me that thinks this....so many people wax lyrical on great longevity, distinct notes etc. Ho hum. If anyone could direct me to a smoky vanilla oud scent I would be indebted.

I used to have Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille as my signature; however, it wasn’t so unique and mind-blowingly attractive any more since there has been some really potent perfumes to pull it down recently, and they have been totally successful. I was looking for something over the moon, something sentimental, dominant over other fragrances, something bad a*ss, very specific for very specific and vital moments, to make a totally sensational impression over girls, and the most significantly, to fulfill myself completely, the person who wasted a lot of money on a lot of terrible fragrances before, and I finally found it. THAT’S ATKINSONS HIS MAJESTY THE OUD It really superseded my signature. Longevity: 10/10 Sillage:10/10 Bad a*ss: 10/10 Opponent killer: 10/10 THANK YOU ATKINSONS. It is really worth the money

This one is hands down, for those who love that dark, smokey oud type of smell. More like a wood burning in a way. It’s hard to frame it in a way that sounds pleasant, just know that it is if you like that smell lol. It’s in the same vein as Tom Ford’s Tobacco Oud and similar ones like that. A good time to wear this, is definitely in the colder months. Do not even attempt to pull this off in the summer, I don’t care if it’s even one spray. It’s that beast. This is a good, sweater wearing, leaves falling, even some snow falling, type of fragrance for sure. On the flip side, a British man in a 3 piece suit with a monocle lol Having this be my 2nd try into Oud, I’m starting to dig these for the cold. Definitely gives you that masculine, gentleman vibe all around.

I have a feeling that a lot of the reviews below talking about this being an early grey frag with soft vanilla are actually trying to leave reviews for Oud Save the King, which is a much better fragrance. This one was very jarring on my skin, it smelled almost like a mosquito repellent spray that my family used when we were little, there was likely a lot of clove oil in there as clove is supposedly a natural insect repellent. I have tried spraying this on a few times and I just can't get past that opening. Cloves and way too realistic Oud notes. I try and wait, but I so put off I inevitably scrub it off every time.

Bold, demanding and invasive. I recall Oud Save The King lacking performance, so naturally I underestimated the strength of this monster. Sandalwood forward with some emphasis on Laotian Oud. During the first 10 minutes of wear, it almost smells like it’s on fire. After this phase, it dawned on me that “His Majesty The Oud” shares much in common with 24 Gold by Scent Story. I fell asleep writing this review, woke up and His Majesty is still kicking. While it’s not original, it is a dense and high quality fragrance. You will see little to no change, but it does give quite a performance.
