Californian Poppy (new)

Pepper, pepper, dry herbs and pepper again. The aroma is not wet at all, but dry and pepper aggravates this effect. I don't hear citrus fruits at the start here, but after all this dryness and a «tickling» nose sensation, ozone and some echoes of citrus fruits are connected. Even if you don't know that the fragrance is declared as «poppy», there is a clear and vivid association with a huge blooming field, blue sky and freedom. It is perfectly worn in any weather: wet, dry, sunny, and cool. It is absolutely relevant at all times and everywhere. I really liked it.

It is actually LOL to see how people are comparing fragrances: California Reverie Van Cleef & Arpels, Flower by Kenzo... and we get California Poppy! First one is fruity floral, the latter is sweet powdery... California Poppy is none like that It's fresh in a poppy way! Yes, even tho there is no smell like "poppy" I've never tried anything like that and I loved the smell Smoky? I am shocked to hear that as well. Give it a try if you want some really new experience and if you are tired of typical fresh/ green fragrances

At first spray: A marriage between VC&A California Reverie and the original Kenzo Flower, which is more feminine and softer. California Poppy instead dries down quickly to a dry peppery (not pink) sent, loosing all flowers and the fresh citruses while becoming more masculine. The color combination of the juice and the packaging is lovely though. I like the sent but prefer to layer Flower and California Reverie. Thank you Atkinson for the inspiration.

I knew I smelled it before - Hiris by Hermes, identical especially on a dry down. Hmmmm👍

Rain + fruit + grass. Mild, refreshing, candle-like. 6/10 Edit: When I first tried this I had no idea that it was a new formula for the original 1906 version, the first mainstream western perfume to use "poppy" as an ingredient. The opium poppy has no real smell to it, nothing anyone is bottling up anyway. So the concept is entirely fictionalize based on the appearance of the poppy flower. Very intriguing in my opinion.

soapy for sure. generic white floral definitely. pleasant with heft. not sure why i get a militant pansy.

This one just does not agree with my skin. Instead of green, citrus or peppery notes all I get is a quite off-putting smell of stale cigarettes in a closed room. Maybe it's my skin's reaction to a substantial dose of musk. Just not for me I guess, although I am fond of many other Atkinsons' offerings.

smells like a laundry detergent which is not to my liking but I guess some people like fresh laundry kind of smell..

I believe this is an interpretation of the bright and sunny disposition of a field of Poppy flowers. With a lemon essence and other fruity tones combined with a smattering of aquatic and clean 'soapy' notes completed by a hint of cedary (barely discernable) and musky warmth in the drydown this definitely qualifies as a "freshie" fragrance. Not a powerhouse but it lasts closer to the skin. I'd not go crazy with the sprayer, though. Take a moment to look up some of the intriquing notes in this one. Pleasant bottle. Looks nice on my vanity.

This is so... smoky. smoky like you smoke a cigarette. and you don't want to be caught that you smoked, so you put a fresh and light floral fragrance all over your body to hide your smoking scent. but apparently, everyone noticed you smoked.

Bitter soapy musky vetiver. It's quite soap bubbly in a musky way with doses of vetiver and grapefruit. It's like a dirty green clean and rain dew.

I am in love with this one. It brings childhood memories - running on a dusty road barefoot with wreath of wild flowers in my hair...

Almost a copy of Margiela's Untitled. A litle fresher though. Let's say, it is between Untitled and its flanker Untitled L'Eau.

Yes! Detergent! Smells green and musky.
