Gold Fair In Mayfair

I received this fragrance as a Christmas gift, and to my pleasant surprise, it has become one of my all-time favourite fragrances. The opening is a sharp yet not cloying absinthe with a hint of hazelnut. This is what I like to refer to as the fragrance's youth; it is just starting out and finding it's footing. I find that on my skin, this stage will last around 30 minutes to an hour. The fragrance then blends into a more grounded and mature, nutty scent. The hazelnut seeps through subtlely, bringing the cacao with it. The vetiver and amber notes also ground the scent, leaving a mature and elegant core for the lighter notes of hazelnut and cacao to project off. This is very much the fragrance's older phase. One thing that struck me about this scent is it's resemblance to Battenberg (a marzipan-based cake that we have in the U.K.; despite marzipan being made with almonds, the hazelnut notes mixed with the sweetness of absinthe seem to mimic this). As someone who really likes this cake, it came as a nice surprise. Great for the colder days, especially at night. I wore this fragrance on multiple occasions during the Christmas holidays (due to it being very elegant and expensive-smelling, I only wore it at dinners and parties), and it always conjures up an image in my mind of a grandfather and his grandson both enjoying desert while the grandfather sips on his alcohol of choice. As though the 'younger' notes and 'older' notes are in conversation. There is something truly unique and beautiful about this fragrance.

This is a very refined, upscale-feeling fragrance. The listed notes play off one another in harmonious agreement. I love how absinthe is used as a contrast to the soft, creamier notes, giving Gold Fair a unique take on the cocoa/iris trope. The composition is delicate rather than bold, so I understand the remarks about it not being loud. Accordingly, is not for attention-seekers or those who want to have their fragrance do their socializing for them. This is the kind of scent that is meant to compliment-or rather complete-one’s tasteful ensemble of good manners, fine clothing and thoughtful grooming. It DOES last longer than some claim in reviews, but it will not fill a room. Set expectations accordingly!

It smells like a fictional ex that got away, like good memories and unrealised potential. It would smell equally gorgeous on a man and a woman. It is one of the fragrances that went straight to my brain when I first smelled it. Despite its dark and mysterious nature it has an antidepressant effect on me, when I smell it I can't help feeling optimistic and cheerful. Very unique, and perfect blend of green and dark brown tones. And about that performance problem everyone is talking about, well we'll see about that. I got a FB on discount and I'm not afraid of overspraying, putting vaseline on my clothes then spraying on top LoL. Whatever works for my golden knight 😌

This is a luxurious, addictive, formal, and complex, masculine-leaning scent that feels perfectly blended. The opening features the stated combination of nutmeg and fresh, herbal, boozy absinthe. The distinct cocoa note strikes a semi-creamy, semi-dry balance without ever becoming overly sweet. This gives the fragrance the vibe of a decadent Christmas praline, specifically reminding me of Lindt Nuxor milk chocolate. Gourmand yet fresh, this is what you would wear if you were invited to a Christmas state banquet by the British Royal Family. 9/10

I've seen this brand i a shop with 20% off and scrolled around the pyramids of it's creations. This one stood out+ it was discontinued(limited edition), but still available in my country, luckily. SO, i blind bought it and do not regret. It is so comforting, warm, a bit gourmand. The feeling when i wear it reminds me of the one i wear Angels share or Vanille havane (both masterpieces ). I'm not good yet at describing and distinguishing all notes, but i do love this fragrance a lot .

This is an unbelievably sexy unisex-masc fragrance. It's aromatic without being sharp and the drydown is a slightly powdery, cosy spiced-musk. It's giving 'Daddy is a state of mind'. Fabulous to layer with Santal 33 (something a character Sam Elliott plays would wear) or with Ambre Delicieuse (Tom Selleck, specifically as Dr Richard Burke) Sillage is moderate, surprisingly intimate projection. Longevity is very good 8+ hours.

An amazingly delicious perfume! I feel anise liquor, milky cacao and nutmeg. But it is so supremely well blended, that I don't want to overanalyze the composition. Together the notes somehow create an illusion of cherry, including the almondy cherry stone. The smell is deep, velvety and wraps around you like a cloud of hedonistic pleasure.

Instant love! Warm, cozy, boozy, powdery spicy. This is for me Christmas Day in a bottle. And that golden bottle looks like the most expensive thing I have ever seen. Not that it smells exactly the same but it reminds me a lot of Gabriella Chieffo’s Lattedoro. Amazing gem !!

What a pleasant surprise this one is! Not too sweet, nice cocoa note throughout, and it lasted all day. The absinthe cuts through the cocoa and amber and makes it really easy to wear. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did.

Makes me happy wearing it. Soft but luxe. Something intriguing about it. Doesn't project too much or last too long. Ordered from Nordstrom so it would be easy to return, but right away I knew I would be keeping it.

This is one of my favorite fragrances ever! The iris mixed with the nutmeg is a beautiful combination and it dries down very nicely. It's not overly sweet so perfect if you prefer more of the spicy notes.

Smells similar to the Tom Ford Noir Extreme but the absinthe in the opening makes this more complex. Considering the price is lower than Tom Ford Noir Extreme, I would definitely choose this one.

It smells like magic! Fresh and sweet at the same time. It smells very sophisticated and rich, def one of my favourites! There is nothing like that out there.

This is surprise scent. Great mixing, warm spicy fragrance.

Very interesting scent for me. What I smell in the first place is the Absinthe with some nutmeg creating a mild spiciness without being warm. Along with the Absinthe and Nutmeg, I personally get something that smells a bit like Sprite to me, but not in a bad way. The first time I sprayed this fragrance I felt it is leaning way more masculine and I still get some qualities in the first half hour of wearing that resembles a fragrance I`d connect with masculine scents. For me the Cacao is not detectable at all. However once it`s dried down it has the same powdery and addicting DNA like Pirate`s Grand Reserve. It`s fresh and uplifting, perfect for warm weather. It reminds me of a way better and less masculine Version of "Raffaello" from "Pantheon Roma". I am a not sure if I`d enjoy it the same way as Pirate`s Grand Reserve. It is addicting, it is beautifully crafted, the dry down is amazing. Do I desperately need it like Pirate`s Grand Reserve? No. But do I consider getting this one day though as it makes me sniff my wrist over and over? Very likely.

A BIG boozy ambroxan start. I like it. A big dose of chocolatey cinnamon. The ambroxan of course means a big sillage but it wains quite quickly to average. It smells like a delish cocktail at one stage. It also reminds me of an American chewing gum I used to buy as a kid living in Hong Kong. I can't remember what the flavour was. I've said all this but if you are expecting something very sweet and gourmand then you might be disappointed as that only really lasts for half an hour or so. I do love the Absinthe contribution. That dry, slight bitter herbal feel. It adds an airy quality. It prevents this disappearing into candy land. It does smell a bit too artificial for me to love though. Too much ambroxan. I swear my skin amps it up. It is not a rich, dense scent with lots of depth. Little development. Its that shallowness that is also off putting. Too many modern scents are going down this route. I just don't think it's a scent worthy of such a HUGE price tag. I might buy it once the price has come down below half.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this divine fragrance, yet! A lovely SA introduced me to this brand and told the story of how the perfumes were exclusively made for the British Royal family until the owner passed away. An Italian company then bought it and kept the most of the original formulas! (Don't know how true this is, but it was still a nice story!) Gold Fair is a unique combination of powdery chocolate topped with spicy absinthe. It's smells so rich and classy! It's distinctive and longlasting, yet soft and smooth. While it's unisex, it leans more masculine to my nose as the absinthe and nutmeg reminds me of an upscale barbershop (herbal spice with a slightly antiseptic nuance). I thought it would fit a man better so I gave my bottle to my brother. Ironically, he said his wife and daughter fight over it! Nonetheless, Gold Fair is definitely exquisite and is fit for a king - or queen!

This is a distinctly boozy and chocolatey fragrance. Sweet, but never cloying. Warm, inviting, and quite charming. It carries a smoky, slightly herbal, and gently earthy character. While the intensity is moderate, the depth runs remarkably high. The drydown is especially delightful. Despite the presence of cocoa, it should not be mistaken for a gourmand; this is far from that territory. I have always appreciated the pairing of vetiver and cocoa; Serge Lutens’ Vetiver Oriental is a good example of how well they work together. I don’t mean this as a comparison, but rather as a reference point to clarify the notes. Overall, I enjoyed it very much (:

My dad got this when he came from a trip and I must say its my favourite cologne he has ever got he had Tom ford black orchid which i never really minded in fact i liked but when he switched to Atkinsons I was definitely like yeah thats a better fragrance in my opinion than the black orchid maybe coz i found black orchid slightly on the feminine side

Smooth criminal~☆ this leans a little masculine but undeniably it has an addictive scent. It is creamy smooth boozy and aromatic. The more i wear it, the more it is a passing thought that originally it felt like a mens fragrance. It is a delight and i truly enjoy wearing it. Say it loud say it proud.. i love it.

really nice aromatic fragrance, creamy cacao, it smells a bit like plum liquor on me, which i like :) It also really smells like when i mix choco musk and angels share on my skin, idk. unfortunately on me the silage is not great, nor is the longevity :( really pleasant winter scent tho

This is what I believe the cool kids call "excellently blended", it kinda seems to have some soapiness aswell. It's aight, I definitely wouldn't pay that money for it though.

#1014 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I don't find this similar to anything people have voted for. It's interesting in that it's not exactly like something I've previously smelled. I do like amber, sage, cacao and iris in combination, but Dior "Homme" does it better, and if I had this on the shelf next to the Dior I'd reach for the Dior. The Dior is more a warm weather, "fresh from the shower" scent because of it's powdery and citrusy character. And the Dior doesn't come off as mature and formal as this Atkinsons does, so this scent is perhaps more suitable for business wear than the Dior? But for cold weather Atkinsons has very good oud options like "Oud Save the King", "His Majesty the Oud", "The Other Side of Oud", all three of which I prefer to this, that project better than this, and are also appropriate for business wear. This is car pool, elevator and small office safe, since only someone at intimate distance will smell it. And it has all day longevity on the skin, but mostly you just get wood and cacao all day, which I don't find particularly interesting or attractive. I've tried and purchased four Atkinsons scents in a row. This won't be number five. It's not bad, I'm just indifferent to it.

A fragrance that is so much more than you would expect, or believe. For me, this fragrance is a ‘mood enhancer’. Imagine a filter that only allows positive emotions to pass through, from you to the outside world and the outside world back to you, giving these emotions a golden warmth. That’s what Gold Fair in Mayfair feels like to me. This is a sophisticated fragrance. The exact opposite of the juvenile, sometimes infantile fragrances we are offered these days, no innuendo, an impeccably presented, refined, perhaps aristocratic fragrance. Starting with the top notes, folklore would have us believe both absinthe and nutmeg have psychoactive mind altering effects. Perhaps that why absinthe was the drink of famous names such as Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Lewis Carroll, and Toulouse-Lautrec, and perhaps why this fragrance seems to impart a mood enhancing effect. There’s a lot going on. It has the booziness of a gentleman’s club, a mixture of earthy and spicy, bitter and sweet, it’s quite mesmerising. It’s almost as though the mind altering top notes prepare you for the sage, used in rituals for cleansing and healing. Cacao in some cultures is thought to stimulate neurotransmitters that make us feel blissed out and loved up, and even iris is claimed to be mood enhancing. Going deeper into the fragrance, vetiver is supposed to ease negativity, and styrax has been used in ceremonies and rituals for millennia. It makes you wonder if Atkinsons chose ‘trippy’ notes. Is it all myth, or can a fragrance make you feel happier? The only oddity here is the ambroxan. Perhaps it’s to increase longevity, or add a seductive muskiness. I don’t really smell or notice ambroxan, but fortunately for me the main notes of the fragrance are enough without ‘enhancement’. It may perhaps be too much for some, but many of the ladies think it’s sexy. Supposed to have been limited edition, but you can still buy it. Perhaps it’s an unappreciated gem. One of Atkinsons’ best as far as I’m concerned.

I wouldn't have thought to test this fragrance had it not been for a very knowledgeable sales assistant at my local department store that sought to introduce me to this underrated scent. Gold Fair in Mayfair is quite misleading with its oddly British name and gold leaf styled bottle. I had anticipated a somewhat old-fashioned aldehydic fragrance with a hefty dose of white florals, however, Gold Fair in Mayfair is a surprisingly delectable chocolate-amber fragrance, which leans on the gourmand side. The most dominant accords to my nose include nutmeg, cacao, ambroxan and vetiver. The ambroxan lends a warm, slightly synthetic musk note, which I am not a huge fan of. Ambroxan and I have a complicated relationship. Thankfully the nutmeg and cacao notes blend nicely with the ambroxan, smoothing the composition and making it more wearable on my skin. Gold Fair in Mayfair is perfectly unisex and is quite unique. Some reviewers have drawn comparisons to Noir Extreme by Tom Ford. It has been several years since I tested this Tom Ford scent, and my memory fails me, so I am unable to comment on its similarities to Gold Fair in Mayfair. Supposedly, Gold Fair in Mayfair was launched as a specialty Christmas release at Selfridges back in 2018. I can see why this fragrance would suit the Christmas season, as the rich, chocolatey and nutty aroma does bring to mind chocolate puddings and Belgian chocolate.

Opens up with a syrupy sweetness, a lot of alcohol and prominent spices, particularly nutmeg. It's really much more syrupy than expected, and it's like Stronger With You or Khamrah finally grew up to be semi tasteful and had a decent perfumer reconstruct them. It's a really Christmas-y scent, with fruit syrup and dry spices mixing on a bed of powdery iris and very sweet cocoa. It's not my favourite genre, but it's probably the best of the syrupy sweet spice bunch I've tried in a while. The drydown does slightly remind me of Tom Ford Noir Extreme as well, but it's quite a bit more fruity-syrupy sweet than that and a bit more powdery. Not my favourite genre as I prefer a vanilla-sandalwood-spice mix to a fructose-syrup-spice one, but it's one of the better ones in its class.

LOVE the smell. Sweet but not sickley. To me personally I feel like u can smell the different layers and can enjoy the scent layering as it changes and dries down. A shame for the price that it doesn’t last too long. Wouldn’t repurchase or recommend anyone to buy for the full price. I’d love to find a similar scent that is much longer lasting, but sadly haven’t come across a dupe. However saying that I feel you can find a perfume that gives u the same effect with the great blend and have it be longer lasting. Great scent but not to die for!

Delicious, smooth, creamy cocoa, simply the perfect winter perfume. The absinthe I believe gives it an almost medicinal or rather aromatic punch, but it just makes it uplifting and bright while still remaining warm. Nutmeg is such an underrated fragrance note. Don't understand the complaints on longevity as it stays on my clothes until I wash them. Beautifully hugs you in a small, divine and delicious scent bubble. Love on first sniff. Well-kept secret.

A great fragrance that should be a crowd pleaser, long lasting, perhaps not a powerful projector but its performance is good and does have impressive sillage, even though I am the wearer and likely am going nose blind to it, occasionally I get wafts of it past my nose.. Well worth the money in my opinion. Overall. 9/10

If Rehab from Initio is the niche version of Spicebomb and/or Spicebomb Extreme, than this one is the niche version of Initio Rehab! Superb blended fragrance, with a limitation of 2000 pcs. worldwide. Grab it while you can! Here in Europe it isn't that expansive (about € 140,-- to 180,--)

Overdose of sugar cinnamon. Bulky cinnamon powder that turns to a fizzy cinnamon with hints of cacao flavor. It's a cute but the splash cinnamon at top is just too overpowered but it doesn't take away the blend's amusement. Cute.

One of the greatest works ever, but no protection, no sillage, no performance. Skin scent. I wish someone make the same formula with a great projection

it smells very fresh and uplifting to me, can be a signature scent. a true unisex fragrance, wouldn't say it leans in either of the genders.

If you love Angel's Share, this is close cousin of it, boozy amber but not sweet like Angel.
