Rockford

Rockford (Atkinsons - the first one 1985) Best perfume of the world in my opinion. There is nothing like him!

Vintage Rockford? Pure Heaven. I love it.

Rockford by Atkinsons legendary 1985 fragrance by Jean Claude Delville. In my olfactory memory as a child of the 80s I remember it with much affection and tenderness; was my older brother's first perfume. Dark, masculine, enveloping, reassuring fragrance. Testing it today I find it sadly reformulated it's completely different. Pity.

Isn't that bear the cutest? I love frags that have mascots. Anyhow, Rockford is a paragon in sensible aromatics, at least as far as my nose discerns in my vintage, which is pristine, with zero signs of degradation. The opening is the classic gentleman's trinity of lavender, bergamot, and lemon that soon flanks the mace note which is vaguely reminiscent to the iconic Cacharel Pour Homme. Carnation soon harmonizes with the mace which is utterly blissful to my nose. It feels almost pastoral, like a drive through the Lancashire countryside, rolling heath and moor. The spice in the heart is round and nuanced, quite natural smelling, but with a perfumistic quality that spares it from being perceived as edible. There is a seamless transition to the base, with its lilting sandalwood, vetiver and musk. Sheer perfection. Who knew? It makes me quite curious for other older releases from the house of Atkinson's.

This appears to use the exact same bottle as Hero by Prince Matchabelli. I'm assuming they're different however? Can someone officially confirm this for me per chance? They appear extremely different so I doubt it, however I know Fragrantica's notes aren't always dead on.
