Aubusson Homme

Very nice men's fragrance for the fall. Nothing exciting or memorable, but still a decent scent. I'm wearing it now and it just does so well with this time of year (October) in New England. I bought it expecting to be like Bogart Witness because I love cinnamon-based colognes. However, the cinnamon in Aubusson is very faint, nothing like some of my favorites. It's more of a woody (fir note really stands out) and green fragrance with a touch of freshness from the citrus. Although it's a mature scent, it's by no means "dated." More of a layed back weekend juice. Will peer well with a denim jacket. As others have indicated and accurately so, Aubusson Homme is not an 80's powerhouse by a long shot. In fact, it's rather light and becomes a skin scent quickly. So don't buy it looking for an 80's kind of projection because you'll be disappointed. BTW I don't get the comparison to Bogart Witness which is a cinnamon bomb and perhaps the best cinammon-dominant cologne ever made for men. I also don't get the comparison to the uber-masculine mature powerhouse Balenciaga Pour Homme. All three fragrances are very different. Therefore, it's not redundant to own all 3 of them. If I had to only pick one as a keeper, it be Witness. But again, that's because of my passion for cinammon fragrances. But when I want to smell kick ass and unapologetic, Balenciaga is king. Longevity: 7/10 Projection: 6/10 Value: 9/10 (low as $20 for 3.4oz tester) Scent: 7.5/10

Very much aligned with Balenciaga Pour Homme, and possibly only available in its original formula, judging from how my recently Amazon-purchased box and bottle look (rather like a nineties package with limited ingredients list and very few frontal markings). Not sure what to make of Aubusson because I can't find its company on the internet. Aubusson PH does smell a lot like Balenciaga PH though. If you're a fan of Balenciaga but are frustrated by its discontinuation and lack of availability, this one will do the trick. It's mostly a spiced fruit accord on top, a bit of apple and juniper berry with cinnamon and sharp (but not "loud") musk. There's a pleasantly rich smattering of pine needles, artemisia, cyclamen and labdanum for a little sweetness, and I sense the slightest touch of castoreum in there also. I'm not bowled away by the sandalwood note, however, and I'm not convinced there's really one in there. There's more patchouli and oakmoss than anything else in the base of this, with an ample suggestion of all that came earlier. Does it start off smelling like apple pie? Yeah, kind of. But it's not sugary or gourmand. It's just really nice, a classic early nineties woody-fresh oriental fragrance. Only complaint: could be stronger.

Fresh, green, spicy, lively, and invigorating. The feelings and memories this triggers for me is wonderful. It reminds me of childhood in London on a cool, clear, brisk spring or autumn day when I'd wake up clear headed, refreshed and full of energy, ready for adventure and eager to explore the city by foot, tube and double decker with my cousin. Walking down the King's Road in Chelsea mid/late 70's seeing the Sex Pistols, Clash, Buzzcocks, The Jam posters all over the walls. Amazing how scents trigger memories. I had to really think why Aubusson Homme did this to me and I finally figured it out. As a 9, 10, 11 year old boy in London in the mid/late 70's I always took baths with Badedas bubble bath and loved the smell and how it energized/invigorated me. Aubusson Homme reminds me of the feeling I'd get from smelling Badedas. It doesn't smell like Badedas exactly but gives me that fresh, clean, energetic vibe. It's like I just had a Badedas bath but cinnamon and Christmas spices were added to the bath water. As mentioned by others, Aubusson is definitely similar to Balenciaga Pour Homme and even reminds me of Montana Parfum d'Homme to a lesser degree.

Aubusson Pour Homme's opening of slightly aldehydic mandarin and cinnamon-spiced juniper leads into an aromatic and floral core, feeling as cozy and colorful as the Coogi sweaters and Cross Colours denim. that were popular during the year of its release. It fuels so much nostalgia in me while wearing it, recalling my freshman year in high school when songs like "Would I Lie to You?" by Charles and Eddie and "That's What Love Can Do" by Boy Krazy were in heavy rotation on the radio. Apparently, this style of men's fragrance was really popular at the time, spurring these flashbacks. It's worth noting that the dry down is quite similar to that of the heavily-hyped (I feel partially responsible for this circa 2020) Balenciaga Pour Homme, as all the festive spices and aromatics simmer down into a patchouli and labdanum rich base. I almost find Aubusson to be a more of a standout due to its stellar opening and mid-phases, and the absence of honey allows for a more terpenic (read: coniferous-citrusy) airiness. It's thankfully nowhere near the unobtainium that the former has become, and its apple-pie in the evergreen forest vibe is a joy to wear.

wWOWw! I haven had my nose on ANYTHING like Aubusson Pour Homme in a LONG, LOOONG time!😃 It smells really familiar, but I just cant place it right now.. BEAUTIFUL aldehydic, spicey, powdery MEN'S perfume with pretty good performance (6 to 7 hours on skin.)! Aubusson is definately intense, and if over sprayed can certainly become cloying and maybe even cheap smelling, but when applied correctly I think its a classic, gorgeous mens fragrance that most people can enjoy! I am just so glad that I purchased my 1.7 oz bottle size because honestly, a little goes a long way with this blast from the past! Now Aubusson doesn't smell geriatric or anything like an Old Spice or Brute, it harkens back to the 80's tho and is definately "Retro-do-able". Its a Spicey, powdery, aldehydic masterpiece and I have a feeling that it will NOT last on shelves for long. I definately see myself buying a back-up bottle while they last. I cant wait to find the right occasion to wear this, and Aubusson is definitely proof that (they just don't make e'm like they used to)😊
