Chypre Oud Maharani

Good Lord....this stuff is amazing! A must try (if you can locate a sample) for any Mitsouko lover. There is more than a nod to Mitsouko but without that sort of odd, dusty part, and instead it has a very rich and smooth oud which makes it simply magnificent. This is a dream chypre and this solidifies my respect for these guys. Their perfumes have been growing on me in a major way but this right here, this is one impressive chypre. I know they are self taught, and making perfume can be like making music. Some are just blessed with natural talent. And they are only in their 20s! This is a supremely well balanced — basically PERFECT — classic chypre. It’s 40% concentration and has a lot of naturals so it sits close to the skin (as an elegant perfume should) but it lasts forever. Real custom distilled oakmoss, same with the oud, everything about it screams quality. I don’t really know how to stress how good this is but it’s one of those “I can’t even” when I first got a whiff. It’s chypre perfection. But if you don’t like Mitsouko you probably won’t like this because they are very similar. Very vintage style so if you like modern perfumes this may not be your thing. But vintage lovers, this is a dream! (I got my sample from Ave Parfum but I think they are sold out now)

I love the Au brothers. I loved their first installment of the series. I quickly bought their glorious chypre. I wore it once in 2019 when it was delivered. I tucked it in a "safe spot" as I had contractors doing work on the house...and was not found again...until Dec 2021. This haunted me nearly 3 years. So the juice is a lovely dark color, pretty much opaque now and everything has deepened. Its a classic wonderful chypre... and freshly minted. Proper old time chypres are rather unicorns these days and being a huge fan of the genre, this is an oasis in a cheap chemical desert of modern fragrances. The musk and oud add demention and warm plushness to the chypre. Rich bergamot, oakmoss, iris...jasmine, rose... my small quibble is no peach or plum but this is just magic as the oud brings a new twist to the chypre. I think it does deserve to be put in the class of Diaghilev, Mitsy et al. It is even more wearable than Mitsy. Mitsy is the one chypre I just cant get along with. Theres something that veers it a bit strange on my skin and tries to close my throat. I personally think Parure or Diorama was the better chypre than Mitsy. As you can imagine, this is a much more pleasant luxe chypre...just wonderful.. Just right. Magic..if you can find it..buy it 4.5 stars

A lovely well balanced but simple and redundant floral chypre. The perfume opens with notes of bergamot and synthetic amber. The heart is a pronounced iris with rose and jasmine. The perfume settles into a bed of oakmoss, Oud and synthetic musk. The perfume has some nice quality ingredients but it is not hugely different from say Roja Dove chypre like Diaghilev. Feminine leaning slightly with moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Very nice but not very original at all. Enjoy!

This will always hold a special place in my heart as my personal favorite chypre. A classic floral chypre that had really blown me away with the addition of its oud. It's really something different to most chypres and truly breathtaking. I was lucky to obtain a sample of this and I agree with those below that for those who enjoy fragrances such as Diaghilev or Mitsouko but wanted an oud take, it's definitely worth checking out.
