Eau De Nyonya

Oud de Nyonya (2016) - pandan oud - The Au brothers made a beautiful, yet already discontinued creation. Complex from start to finish. Pandan leaf, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, Sticky rice accord and coconut milk are mixed to resemble this popular Malaysian dessert. Yet, it doesn’t stay food-like for the rest of the journey as more well-known accords come into play - dark chocolate, burnt caramel, powdery violets, dry Iris, lush Jasmine, and creamy Sandalwood make the heart filled with nuance and elegance. The Oud accord is there and present, but doesn’t overpower the entire perfume. In fact, it adds a warm, yet animalic and woody backbone. But I still get whiffs of the top note every now and then - beauty of an parfum extrait. Perfume is meant to be sprayed carefully to fully enjoy the journey and not make the nose anosmic. Truly artisan perfumery.

An unusual fragrance, sweet and smoky... I was surprised, I never heard anything like it, is sweet but not too much. The rice and the coconut milk are the notes I can hear more... it is perfectly balanced,cinnamon accents and gourmand notes in harmony with floral and woody notes, something very special! Is a mysterious parfum everything to discover, I really love it! Sillage: 9/10 Longevity: 10./10 Scent: 8.5/10 Overall: 9./10

Initial spray is quite intense almost boozy but then as it slowly mellows, coconut pandan flavored sticky rice emerges in a nostalgic way. This smells exactly like that Coconut Pandan Mochi by Royal Family, there's no mistaking it. But it's more complex than that, it's definitely foodie gourmand with a mysterious hint due to the smokiness. I absolutely adore this juice, undoubtedly crafted with so much inspiration and finesse.

I don’t usually like gourmand fragrances that much, but this one is amazing: it smells like you are eating a delicious rice pudding-type dessert redolent with cream, cinnamon, and cocoa in an outdoor pavilion where scents of tropical trees and garden plants and even a few nocturnal animals waft to you on warm breezes. I like wearing this to bed, it’s so cozy. Love this one.

Buttery, creamy, toasted, warm, sweet. These are the words that come to mind. Very cozy. If you look for it the coconut is there but it doesn't shout coconut like a tropical scent. No, it's definitely more gourmand but the floral makes it elevated. This is one to remember.

Wow! So rich, sweet and gourmand. Exotic sweets from the Far East. It does smell tasty. The rice, coconut and sweet is very evident. The spices are low key on me. I can't say it develops at all on me. The resins provide a dense base. Good longevity and sillage.

I grew up in South East Asia and I love pandan. This is so delicious and smells just like pandan. It reminds me of seri muka. A truly unique and amazing gourmand. This lasts on me all day. Worth the price. I can't wait to buy a bottle.

Sweet, creamy coconut rice pudding with loads of pandan, a bit of powdery florals and cocoa underneath. It's ridiculously beautiful, a literal gourmand that not only smells like the food, but takes you to that place where you can find that food. One of the most unique frags out there. If you grew up in Southeast Asia, this will definitely take you back to the warm afternoons by the rice fields in the province, with some local delicacy you can't quite get anywhere else. It's admittedly not something I'd wear, but if money was no object, this is something I'd buy a bottle of just so I have it in my collection.

To my nose, this opened very green followed immediately by strong dark chocolate. After several minutes it has fused to an old school violet-soapy scent. I was expecting oak moss, or another quite classic ingredient to be listed which I hadn't noticed before. Perhaps I'm smelling the ambergris or orris root. And a salty note too. After 30 minutes or so... sweet rice with chocolate drizzled over. The padanus in the background. After 90 minutes, here' s the gourmand dessert. The dry down is divine. Smooth creamy sweet rice and coconut and padanus.

Nutti oatmeal that whiffs between gourmand and non gourmand. I firstly got that rice like with worm oatmeal accompanies nuts (mostly hazelnut, and gianduia) bits of coconut (that i barely detect) then bits of choco jasmines. Violets, & iris are there but overbeatened by the oatmeal nutty rice. the chocolate is barely there but it's adding a gourmand twist. It's a cute blend that bit confuses the wearer to think wither if it's gourmand or not. Cute.

Really nice composition, reminds me of a stronger version of Jeaux de Peau by Serge Lutens. I get all the gourmandness at once, the effect is like stepping out of the plane that just landed in Asia - boom! The problem with most of the Auphorie perfumes is that they don't last long on my skin, 1 hour and they become skin scent.. I don't know what the issue is, I guess I can blame my own chemistry.

For me, this is a good oriental scent, I can't always say which sweet notes are present in it, for me the main notes are chocolate

This is beyond gourmand. More of a straight up food smell than a perfume. Intense caramel brown butter is so pervasive, if there's anything else in here, I can't get to it. Would love to hear what others think.

I ordered 4 samples from the house of Auphorie and, though hard-pressed to pick a favorite, have fallen inextricably for this rich and mysterious beauty. Everything thing about this fragrance speaks quality and luxury. I am reminded of bit of the legendary Guerlinade at the base of Guerlain's classic old school fragrances such as L'Heure Bleue and Mitsouko; it is the foundation upon which the rest of the composition is built. Though described as gourmand thanks to the Malaysian rice dessert (Pulut) association, it is far from an overwhelmingly sweet and gooey mess that most gourmands become on my skin. Instead, the sweetness here is subtle, balanced out as it is by notes of jasmine sambac and a surprising, non-metallic violet. A smooth & subtle cinnamon-chocolate combo melds with the intoxicating ambergris/sandalwood an hour in and stays this way for the duration, which is the rest of the day. I will admit to finding the opening a bit disconcerting; it ventured into sharp Yankee candle pungency which is very off-putting. This impression is fleeting, however for I was rewarded with the spellbinding drydown. Warm and sensuous, heady and rich; I cannot even find the proper adjectives to convey how deliriously addictive Eau de Nyonya is to me. I would place it an an altogether new category of floral/oriental/barely gourmand. Such quality and class are seldom found in modern perfumery. Top that off with eternal longevity and mighty sillage and we have quite a seductive beauty here. And for those to whom it matters, Auphorie is big into conservation of environment and wildlife. Their fragrances are vegan and never tested on animals.

it smells very very gourmandness way, as if you would want to eat it but not sure what that is , is it a coffee or a chocolate? or some sweet nutty kind of dessert? the thing is that gourmand sweet scents dont make me feel as something i would like to wear as a perfume, something i want to eat i dont consider to be elegant enough for a perfume, but this one is different :) the drydown is mesmerizing creamy and most addictive i have ever experienced!!! much better then the opening and the performance of this scent as well as the other 3 from this house is stunning! they are all 8+ hours lasting and becoming so interesting after 8 hours again and that is the rarity. Nyonya is perfume that you would not wear in the theater it goes well with jeans..its uplifting, playful and young in heart :) and most probably new in character for many hence addictive from the start.

The opening has a strong, realistic pandan note that smells exactly like the pandan buns from my local asian bakery (the lotus mooncakes are my favorite, but the fragrant pandan buns are a close second!). For those who haven't smelled pandan - it's nutty, green, and slightly toasted-caramel smelling, sometimes with notes of popcorn. It pairs nicely with the creamy rice notes. Next, Eau de Nyonya transitions into a delicate orris-violet-benzoin scent, with the pandan and rice fading to the background. It's still a really pleasant scent but a bit more old fashioned and powdery - I preferred the unique gourmand opening. Good projection and average longevity. Overall, a like but not love. I'm interested to see more from Auphorie!

The coconut phenomenon in fragrance is hilarious to me. Every review I’ve read where it’s listed as a note in the composition, it somehow seems to always be voted very high by users here. This does not smell like coconut. This is very unique and cool. It’s smells like a rice patty, black tea (which I believe is the mix of pandanus and spices) with the jasmine and smoke underlying and a twinge of a salty ness from the ambergris. It totally smells like it’s from the Far East. Do I want to smell like this? Probably not but I dig the artistry. Edit: wish I never got rid of this sample! It was beautifully done and now I’m super into tea fragrances

*Update* This review is for the latest Auphorie addition called 'Oud de Nyonya'..which doesn't seem to be on the Fragrantica database just yet. -Oud de Nyonya smells like authentic Nyonya treats from Malaysia, Penang. -It's impressive how the scent can be captured so realistically in a perfume. -Projects like a beast even just smelling it off a blotter strip. -Has a dry, dark chocolate undertone to it that reminds me of dried tree bark. -Overall: a very unique scent like no other. It's really really pricey though. -Definitely takes a strong love for gourmands and Nyonya treats to like this perfume though. Sample before you buy. (-)

I have probably had pandan before but don't recall - but this one is definitely one of a kind gourmand. Southeast asian dessert gourmand where there is some kind of mochi or rice dough involved, quite grainy, no distinct coconut flakes but the green flesh, definitely not too sweet, as these treats never are but definitely gourmand. Grainy, wafery, a little salty too. Not really chocolatey to me. Very unique! Makes me want to go to my local asian grocery shop and buy all kinds of interesting sweets and desserts.

If anyone wants to sell a decant or sell a partial, I'm happy to take it off your hands!!
