La Lanterne Rouge

This is one of the most accomplished "indie" fragrance I've smelled in awhile—I agree a small portion of this resembles Baccarat Rouge 540, and even parts that resemble Roja Amber Oud and Kuwait (but as a whole it smells like neither)—It could've been easily sold under a bigger name. It smells intensely fruity & sweet, somewhat medicinal, yet alluringly red and not overbearing; occasionally, you'll get a whiff of incense from the Far East when not paying attention, ethereal and allusive like a cloud of mystery surrounding the red lanterns in a hidden valley...Have I been Spirited Away? The biggest flaw (and the only reason I haven't bought it) is the price: More expensive than just about any other artisanal brands I've bought from; at least Slumberhouse has aesthetic bottles, and Areej uses next-level ingredients. Quite frankly I don't want to spend $170 on a cheap bottle with a tacky sticker—several of their other scents at least have better designs ರ_ರ

If you get a chance to compare this to Rose Oud from Nicolai Parfumeur Createur, you may be surprised how much similar they smell. In case of price, Rose Oud is half the price for the same 30ml, and the same high quality. What really amazing is how different perfumers can create so similar product. Love both creations for their vintage-like facets.

This to me is like a fruit tea. Very juicy and yummy. But the more I smell it, the more I feel it is lacking some kind of sophistication? I am a fan of Auphorie, but they are just too pricey in my opinion.

Deep, spicy, red fruit. Sweet, but not childlike or cloying.

I ordered a few samples from this house and included this one because I was intrigued by the notes. Had I blind-tested Lanterne Rouge, I would have classed it as a high quality children’s perfume from a European house. I was thinking celebrity scent at first, but it is too round, neat and, well, sweet. I will hand it down to my ten year old niece who will probably appreciate it more.

- In a place far away from anyone or anywhere, I drifted off for a moment - ★★★★★ Breathtakingly beautiful. One of the smoothest and richest scents I’ve ever laid my nose on. Lanterne Rouge fiercely opens up with an enormous deeply earthy saffron sweetened with juicy ripe mandarin and jam-like dates. The saffron is not bitter or leathery by any means, but instead showcased here in its full bloom deep red almost medicinal scent. An accord to die for. Later the mandarin takes a backseat and the thick apricot-like osmanthus joins the saffron resulting ultimately in an insanely delicious three-dimensional accord that smells almost like a roasted delicacy topped with saffron infused date syrup and caramelized apricots. Now this is what I call a true gourmand because my mouth literally waters from smelling this. Despite the thick sweetness and earthy saffron, Lanterne Rouge strangely still smells fluid, dynamic and crystal clear – on the nose it truly feels like I’m inhaling some magical scarlet liquid. Not only is the scent technically exceptionally good, it also tells a story. It brings me back to a very special evening in Kyoto, during Hanami, when we for a celebratory evening gathered to a local park. Under the rain of pastel pink cherry blossom petals, the darkness of the night is cut by lights emanating from the street vendors stalls and the sweet scent of their local delicacies. Outside the main vendor path, trails of red lanterns guide to shrines that quietly wait for visitors to pay respect. An ephemeral moment of enveloping serenity which only occurs once in a lifetime. i sometimes get angry with people whose reviews get me on the wrong track but thats not hard to do with smells :) this is another "new" kind of scent to me, smells sort of "asian" but also very Parisian :), the first association with it was dressing up for a satruday night out, putting bright red lipstick on, and beeing a woman that looks attractive :) To me it smells like a makeup:) it has that powdery character, i hope i wont put someone on the wrong track with this...but this is one big loud fragrance! it gives me the above feeling becasue women who dress up for saturday night tend to put a lot of perfume on, but this one is not only loud but makes statement of a good taste too :) It smells so beautiful and sexy, but beeing so loud can maybe become tiring to wear it day in day out after a while...like a loud music its not for every day :) Gorgeous too. and long long lasting too...i can smell it for days after on my coat

Oh my goodness!! How does ppl classify scents these days. This parfum doesn't smell like Baccarat Rouge 540 by Kurdijan. It's ridiculous to say they smile alike. I trusted the comments from a few to blind buy it which I advise that ppl should strip test any and all parfums before buying instead of being misinformed terribly by these made up reviews. It smells so close to Al Arais Bakhoor. I can't believe this was compared to Baccarat. Well anyway its a nice concentrated extract that smells fruity.

This one will always hold a special place in my heart. When I first got it, I was spraying it left and right. But now, nope. Just one spray to do the trick. To savor those bittersweet memories of the past.

Oudy-fruity red juice, similar to Baccarat Rouge 540 from Kurkdjian
