Pure Emerald

It opens with sweetness, apple and then I’m not sure where it’s going... mmm .. I feel this perfume is having an identity crisis. From the name, Pure Emerald, I was expecting something brighter. It’s pleasant, it’s sweet. I’m not getting any green notes. The patchouli seems to be the main character in this perfume giving it a mainly warm, earthy, musky ambiance that would vibe better in autumn or winter. The apple is there, but not fresh, bright, sweet or tart, there’s sweetness but not candy floss, it’s what I’d imagine it would smell like if you attempted to caramelise cheap, tinned apples in a pan or the cubed stewed apples in a supermarket apple tart, rather than a home baked pie. But this isn’t an edible gourmand, at least I don’t think it is.. if that’s what it is trying to be then it’s a disaster. I know, I’m not selling it here! I can pick up a slight bit of rose. To my nose, it’s the vanilla that is all wrong in this perfume. My disclaimer; I need to say I’m not a fan of vanilla. I recognise it as an olfactory hang up from my childhood when vanilla was a popular scent used in air fresheners or ‘luxury’ pot pourri and candles that my mum had unfortunately picked up at a neighbours Pippa Dee Party, and made me feel sick. There are plenty of perfumes I love that have vanilla in them, oh yes. But unfortunately for my nose, with the musky sweetness and odd apple note, it leans this scent toward a Glade or Haze Apple & Vanilla air refresher. I did have to sit on this today, taking my nose back and forth to my skin. I would love to hear a pov from a person that loves vanilla to see if they process the fragrance differently. I would also like to smell this without vanilla, because I think I would actually like it better. I feel that I don’t like this but someone, somewhere might love it. I don’t completely hate it. I kinda want to maybe try it again in the winter, it at least deserves a second curiosity whiff.

Reminds me of Mugler Angel. Very sweet with a patchouli base, that cotton candy/maltol sweetness. Definitely a cooler weather scent, and it's strong, lasts all day on me.
