Brocade

This is so yummy! I haven't smelled Brocade in probably 30 years, and I'd forgotten how lovely it is. I scored a vintage Avon salesperson sample set with this in it. I remember my mom had a spray bottle of Brocade on her dresser and I would sniff it every now and again in my childhood. So soft and powdery, but different. I really can't describe the notes other than to say a powdery, soft musky floral. It's all patterned polyester dresses and silk scarves to me. Lovely.

This is lighter than most Avon perfumes of the sixties and early seventies. The opening is a fresh English rose, with a soft, sweet musk coming close behind. This is gentle, subtle, and powdery.

A lovely older Avon that I enjoy wearing, even though it doesn't last more than 3-4 hours on me with hardly any projection. Either way it seems like there is aldehydes with a bit of green in the opening, and I definitely smell a soft musky rose after the first hour. I'm not sure about the "sweet notes" but I think I smell some soft vanilla. I can't identify what else is in the base, it seems to be missing the usual woody notes, maybe vetiver? Either way I enjoy it and feel very "girly" when I put it on.

Brocade started to fade within about 15 minutes. It's a sweet, pretty scent I like, but there's not enough to hold my interest to say I love it. Time might have taken away some of the subtlety. As it is, I'd wear it during the day any time of year, but especially in warm weather. It's fresh and sweet, and has far less powderiness than most vintage Avon colognes I know. I might have loved it when I was very young.

I don't find anything sweet about this perfume, maybe a little, but mostly I find it to be a lovely vintage style rose chypre. Elegant & old fashioned, a bit dusty, mossy, floral, featuring iris, violet, & rose. I'll have to investigate further, it stays close to the skin, at least the perfume oil does. Long lasting though!

I bought this at a vintage market, without knowing the scent (I was under the impression that Little Girl Blue was the scent, not the shape of the bottle) and I was so very excited I opened it on the car ride home. My nose isn't nearly good enough to pick out any specific flowers, but it brings to mind soft tea roses and the like. However, the main thing I am picking up is a this one antique stores corner with the vintage silk slips and doilies. It's an ephemeral yet punchy scent that may or may not be spoiled. I can't see myself wearing it but I like to keep my little blue girl on my dresser and open her up from time to time.

I have a tiny flower/sun-shaped dram perfume bottle from around 1969-1970 of Brocade. I sampled it on a slip of acid-free paper and my first impression is a lily-of-the valley or hyacinth smell with roses and other florals mixed in. Reminds me of Apres L'Ondee with much less carnation and no spice, just sweet flowers. Little bit of woody smell underneath but mostly flowers. I got brave and wore my Brocade and it is definitely heavy on lily of the valley and orris with some oakmoss and maybe sandalwood. Very soapy pretty and powdery on top with a woody base.

My Mom had a 3 oz. cologne of this, in the Little Girl Blue shaped glass bottle, from the 1970’s; I would often sneak sniffs of it, but don’t recall her actually wearing it; she was a grad student, so maybe it was too ladylike, dressed up and proper for that setting. It wasn’t precious, she kept it in the bathroom. I think it had kind of a sweet Spring floral, green and rosy mood to it.

I will sum this up perfectly. Remember the show "I Dream of Jeannie" ? Remember Dr. Bellows ? And his wife ? OK- this is THE fragrance that Amanda Bellows would wear. Period. LOL

I wore this as a teen. Was hoping someone made a recreation of it for today. Always loved the smell of it.
