Excalibur

The starched collared shirt to öland’s shearling jacket. They share a similar leather-woody dna but where öland is brimming with warm spices, Excalibur is bursting with gleaming herbs and a galbanum note which does indeed cut like a blade. It dries down to cooler, creamy, with leather settling into more of a supporting role. There is just a hint of funk to the cedar here, suggesting along with oakmoss the earliest stages of autumnal decay and the first crisp breeze of September — or, alternatively, the cool earthiness that accompanies the first thaw of spring. Another unassuming delight from Avon — my bottle is a metallic model plane, which feels fitting for this somewhat chilly and airy fragrance.

Here's a review from a Vulgate Cycle nerd who bought this because of the name: Galbanum, oak moss, and iso-eugenol are present. This is a refreshing vintage Chypre, in the Avon style. Something about it makes me think of Miss Balmain. It's not a dupe but they must share notes. Excalibur is unisex in my opinion. If you like things like 4711, Sweet Honesty, Grey Flannel, Cabochard or Avon Unforgettable, this might interest you. It's not as leathery as the latter, but similar in mood and style. Wears like cologne, light and fleeting. My bottles were $1 each (a Rolls Royce and a wheat penny!) so I'm not complaining. Try estate sales and thrift stores for old Avon, you'll overpay online.
